Chance, the shiny Espeon, with a fat blunt

Notes on Eva Nine's Pokemon Team (for @sneakboots)

Porygon-Z (nicknamed Byte): Eva's first Pokemon, given to her by Muthr. It accompanies Eva during training sessions in the holography chamber of the Sanctuary, and later, escapes to the surface world.

Starly/Staravia/Staraptor (shiny; female): This is the first Pokemon that Eva catches on her own. Almost never leaves Eva's side. Evolves into Staravia towards the end of Book 1, and then into Staraptor in Book 3.

Torterra (male): The second Pokemon Eva caught. Much larger than normal for its species.

Vulpix/Ninetales (fire-type form, female): Some say it was fate that brought Eva Nine and Ninetales together. Others say it was mere coincidence. No matter what, they make a great team-- and having a Fire-type Pokemon by your side is perfect for cold forest nights.

Eevee/Leafeon (female): Best friends with Eva's Staraptor. Evolves into Leafeon in the heart of the Wandering Forest.

Espurr (male): Eva's most recent catch. Has very strong psychic powers, and is easily scared. Still hasn't evolved yet, despite having had enough training to do so.

Notes:

You might be asking "Where does Otto fit into all this?" Well, there are sadly no large tardigrade-like Pokemon that I know of. THEREFORE, Otto and his kind are now a new kind of Pokemon: primarily bug-type, but also water-type. Strictly speaking, Otto isn't one of Eva's Pokemon (since she never caught him with a Pokeball), but he does befriend her.

Eva can telepathically communicate with almost all Pokemon, save for artificial ones like Porygon-Z.

Byte communicates using electrical signals, which over time, Eva has learned to translate. (Neither telepathy nor vocoders work on members of the Porygon line.)

Eva nicknames her other Pokemon besides Byte, but I can't think of any good names.

I re-started my Pokemon Go account today which may be surprising to hear since my work tends to portray me as a sort of spiritualist, perhaps floating on some monkey magic guru cloud somewhere. But my daily energybody routine and channeling (whilst it takes up a good portion of my day) is what I do to enjoy a normal or somewhat average lifestyle. The only difference being that my work helps me to be present in my lifestyle choices, not focused elsewhere in either a previous or future moment, where most of us live unless we have a regular practice that grounds us and keeps us in the present. Unusually, Pokemon Go has the effect of making me very present and focused in the now and is one of my son's favourite pastimes, which makes it all the more appealing to me. There's always some task or adventure, it takes me out on side quests in my day and the investment it takes mentally catalogue each character and their version upgrades to perfect the most ideal line-up of battle league champions is the a great way to get your mind off the fact you have cancer. My mind eases, and I can't get preoccupied with past hurts or losses, or how I might protect myself from the unkindness of others, I am simply battle-mode ready, giving heat with my best fighter's super-charged attack or clocking up XP to get all my rewards. My son himself is a total expert, and I love to hear him explain in great detail the relevance of the task completions for each event, which is like listening to a Pokedex being read aloud. Indeed, he may be able to recite it, that's how well he has it memorised. Even my 77 year old father has gotten involved and has stocked more rare pokemon and battle wins than I will ever. It's sort of a family affair. My dream is to travel to Japan to finish it with Noey, in full Eevee cosplay unashamedly alongside him in his full kit as a trainer. Watch out, Shibuya. I know the dream is in me for a reason. So I will let the universe take over on this one. ~ Chantal Eva
