Wait, we can't understand one another because we're being too formal. We're going to drink brüderschaft. Wonderful. Avec plaisir.
Delicious. And now: I'm Stefan. Lucyn— What?
Uhh… LUCIFER had to have given me my name. I'm Julek.
Now let's complete the ritual and give each other a smack on the lips.
Wait, wait, wait. What are you doing with your beak, coming at me like a girl?
Then—as men! As men is right.
Listen, Julek. You kiss like a girl.
—"Czy Lucyna to dziewczyna?" ("Is Lucyna a girl?"), 1934

Filmy przedwojenne są takie piękne! Takie inne.
Każdy z wymienionych panów pochodzenia żydowskiego (food for thought). Niesamowite pokłady talentu!

I recently got to the scene in Bodo when the main character and Adolf Dymsza film the Ach, śpij kochanie song (Oh, sleep my dear, a famous Polish lullaby that originated from movie Paweł i Gaweł) and I can safely say that it’s my favorite scene in the whole show.
I’ve just found a comparison between this scene and the original version and, of course, there are shitton of boomer comments saying: “The original is the best! The new one is shit.” And I get that it’s, you know, Eugeniusz Bodo, the king of interbellum Polish cinema, but I personally think that the show made this scene justice, if only because the guy who played Bodo, masterfully expressed the irriation of a man forced to sing his daughter to sleep.
Anyway, here’s the comparison video.
youtube
My only complain is the bad synchronization of both scenes, so the original is a little late, but after some time it gets better.

Michał Waszyński udawał katolickiego księcia, by ukryć żydowskie pochodzenie.

No propaganda for Jadwiga? Criminal, simply criminal!
Despite having a great comedic talent, which became especially apparent in the 1930s, most of her early career was spent playing main heroines in schematic, but terribly popular melodramas. Critics of the time said that it was pretty much the same movie over and over, except that in each she was allowed a different tragic death.
Below, Jadwiga putting the moves on Eugeniusz Bodo in "Czy Lucyna to dziewczyna?". Her character is a female engineer who pretends to be a man in order to get a job at her father's firm.
Just as the hero played by Bodo never stood a chance, neither did Jadwiga's real husband. An engineer, by sheer coincidence. Or maybe not by coincidence, because Jadwiga arranged her own happy marriage. After declaring in interviews that marriage isn't for her, she chose - with some care - a handsome engineer, who was building a villa for one of her friends. And it just so happened that she also had a plot of land...
Once the ground was broken on her new villa, Jadwiga proposed to her Zygmunt. He remembered it thus: She said she'd heard a lot of good about me and that she values my character. And so despite knowing many handsome and worthy men, she made a decision to marry me. He agreed, need it be said?
Propaganda
Margaret Lockwood (The Wicked Lady, The Lady Vanishes)— Gorgeous feisty funny talented and the sexiest stubborn face ever committed to film. And if people haven't seen the original Wicked Lady they need to be introduced to a glorious poly highway romp of a film. When a woman outsneers James Mason you know she has sex appeal!
Jadwiga Smosarska (Księżna Łowicka, Barbara Radziwiłłówna)—no propaganda submitted
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
