"WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR OTHERS?"
by WK Interact
Originally from France, but now living in NYC, in 2018 WK Interact told @KVALnews this new wall in Eugene, Oregon, fell in line with his mission. For the last 15 years WK as been "doing a lot of projects with a cause in story called “Heaven Behind My Work,” so this project touched me very much." Painted at the 1911-built First Christian Church on Oak St., WK told @KLCC89.7 this contribution to the city's @20x21Eug Mural Project is perfect on a back wall of the church few people ever paid to. Like the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "it’s in a place it's not supposed to be." @wkinteract/

"PASSENGERS"
by Fintan Magee
Growing up in Brisbane, Australia, Fintan Magee's parents were both artists so he was drawn to art early. Magee started off writing graffiti and dropped out of school but managed to get into community college then university on the strength of his portfolio and has been traveling the world since, making a name for himself as one of the premiere talents in street art. On location Magee says he usually spends several days talking to people on the ground and told @RegisterGuard "I think you do have a responsibility to make something that relates to the place it’s in." In Eugene in fall 2019 to contribute to the @20x21EUG project Magee added this flooding-related work on Willamette St—part of a series triggered when his family home went underwater in the Queensland floods of 2011. @fintan_magee/

LILA, EUGENE
by Bayne Gardner
One of the Pacific Northwest's most prolific artists Bayne Gardner's work is widely recognized around the Eugene / Springfield area—both his solo public and private murals and his many community projects collaborating with area children.... In 2001 a group of residents with disabilities began discussing formation of a Lane County "Center for Independent Living" and in the years since the resulting Lane Independent Living Alliance (LILA) has become an important advocate and service provider. In 2018 Gardner painted two new walls for the @20x21EUG project, bringing his nature inspired work and "lively and spontaneous energy" to the outside of LILA, at Willamette St and 13th Ave. @baynegardner/

WILDCRAFT CIDER WORKS
by Steven Lopez
Born in Los Angeles, Steven Lopez studied fine art at the University of Oregon in Eugene, learning form at the hands of a sculptor and "refining his conceptual vocabulary" under the watchful eye of a design theorist. While living back in Los Angeles navigating between tattoo, art, illustration, and mural work, Lopez is still a regular contributor to the Eugene art scene and was an early participant in the @20x21EUG Mural Project. This colorful 2016 wall was painted for the @WildcraftCider Works on Lincoln Street. @ikeepmoving/

"FALLING SKY TIGER EYES"
by Bayne Gardner
Intrigued by graffiti from a very young age, Bayne Gardner told @TheChronicle1909 he painted his first large-scale commission—unpaid—for his father's workspace, at age 11. Today Gardner is one of the most prolific muralists in the Eugene / Springfield area where he's constantly "seeking out the projects that give him as much artistic freedom as possible, because they are the most fun," and he says, usually give the client the best result. "I love nature" Gardner says and in 2018 Gardner, and his friend Justin ( @541CloudCity ), applied the influence of the outdoors to this Oak Alley wall for Eugene's @FallingSkyBrew. Opened in 2012 Falling Sky was the brainchild of a brewer and a New York restaurateur, and the following year @EugeneWeekly awarded the fledgling startup Best New Business, Best New Brewpub, and Best Burger. @baynegardner/

"GYAN"
by H11235
Kathmandu, Nepal artist Kiran Maharjan's work incorporates Nepali characters and elements of photo realism. One of the primary organizers of the Prasad Project, Maharjan uses street art to impact Nepalese youth through workshops, exhibitions, and murals. Painting as H11235 he told @NPR his art focuses on the idea of contradictions between order and chaos—the "H" represents the chaos in Robert Louis Stevenson's "Mr. Hyde" and contrasts with the order found in the numbers taken from the Fibonacci sequence. Kathmandu is a sister city to Eugene, Oregon so during summer, 2018 H11235 paid a visit to the Pacific Northwest and added two works to the city's @20x21EUG mural project. This smaller second work is on W 10th Ave at the @LaneTitans Mary Spilde Center. @h11235/

"OFFERING"
by Ila Rose
Science is important to Ila Rose, but she says she "also honors the magic that lingers in that which is unknown and unprovable" and uses her art to explore the vastness of both realms. In 2017 Rose was the first local artist given the opportunity to participate in Eugene, Oregon's @20X21EUG mural project. With only minimal mural experience and working alongside a cast of famed artists Rose told @EugeneMagazine she didn't feel like the first wall offered set her up for success. Quickly offered this alternate wall at 3rd and Lincoln, Rose had to rethink her design. Loosely based on Medusa, Rose's final composition shines a new, and less scary light on the mythical "beast," including an unafraid child offering a a flower, conveying the idea of "facing an obstacle with compassion, with openness.” @ilaroseart

"SUMMER CAMP, 2015"
by Bayne Gardner
"Of anyone in town," says the Eugene @RegisterGuard , "Gardner may have the most outdoor art pieces". . . . "'It's just what I like to do,' Gardner said. 'If I wasn't doing this, I'd just be painting for myself.'" Giving up his job as an electrician six years ago Bayne Gardner has been painting full-time since, including more than 40 indoor and outdoor murals. Gardner also enjoys working with the area's youth, however, and every summer you're likely to find him on Emerald Park Dr in Eugene, working with the latest summer camp class. Now, several years after he worked with the kids to create this 2015 mural, the walls of the River Road Park recreation complex in Emerald Park have become an inspiring gallery of brilliantly conceived Gardner designs onto which the children's unique expressions have been incorporated. @baynegardner/

"DOG DAZE OF SUMMER"
by Telmo Miel
Dutch artists Telmo Pieper from Rotterdam, and Miel Krutzmann from Amsterdam, met at the Willem de Kooning Academy and started painting together in 2007. The duo formed Telmo Miel in 2012 and together their complex visual narratives typically add humor and a touch of the romantic to their human and animal subjects. While well versed in traditional painting techniques the artists often distort and overlap images and recent paintings contain elements of playful abstraction as seen in this 2017 work in Eugene, Oregon. This mural at Broadway and Charnelton St was created for the @20x21EUG Mural Project. @telmomiel/

“DISCUSSION ABOUT THE RED"
by Jaz
Originally trained as a theatrical scene painter Argentinian artist Franco Fasoli, aka Jaz, became one of the leaders of a vibrant Buenos Aires graffiti scene in the mid-90s. Today Jaz's work has more in common with the fine arts and his canvas work is highly sought after around the world. One recurring theme in his large scale mural work is ‘Lucha Libre’ inspired characters wearing animal masks and locked in combat. In the summer, 2017 Jaz was in Eugene, Oregon participating in the 20x21 EUG project which plans to produce at least 20 world class murals in the city by the time the IAAF track and field world championships come to town in 2021. Painted on the side of the McDonald Theater on Willamette St, this composition was reportedly inspired by the dialogue that takes place during art festivals. @francofasolijaz/ @20x21eug/

"ALCHEMIST"
by Rachel Wolfe-Goldsmith
"To identify and disrupt patterns that keep us bound by trauma is essential so we may reach new heights, have healthy relationships, and become ally’s for those holding the same burdens. This is my prayer for the world." —Rachel Wolfe-Goldsmith
With the help of a few specialized courses along the way, Rachel Wolfe-Goldsmith says her mash up of classical and cutting edge styles was largely informed by working with other artists and mentors. Of African-American and Jewish heritage Rachel is fascinated by science, mysticism, and fringe cultures, and both her subject matter and mediums constantly evolve as she pursues new ideas. Beautifully rendered and brilliant in its composition, "Alchemist" was painted in August, 2018 for @twentyafterfour_budtenders on Blair Blvd in Eugene, Oregon. @rachelwolfepaints/

"JAPANESE SISTERS"
by Aiko
Born in Tokyo but now living in Brooklyn, Aiko Nakagawa, aka Lady Aiko, was inspired by Japan's woodblock prints of the 18th century and uses hand-cut stencils to bring them to an ever-larger global audience. In 2018 Aiko visited the Pacific Northwest to create this work at Willamette St and W 7th Ave for Eugene's 20x21 project—sponsoring at least 20 pieces of world class street art in time for the 2021 IAAF track and field world championships to be hosted by Eugene. Aiko chose to paint a young Maiko—apprentice geisha trained to be a dancer—to reflect the expected energy and festivity of the upcoming event and sitting down with local NPR affiliate KLCC, Aiko went on to describe some of the other details of the playing card composition—from using the top and bottom to represent day and night to the inclusion of the butterfly to represent transformation. @/ladyaiko_nyc/ @20x21eug/
