Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford will take place on July 29th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV for the undisputed welterweight championship.
For a long time, Errol Spence Jr vs. Terence Crawford was a fight that fans felt they had lost. It won’t happen, or if it does, it’ll be too late. It was a much-clamored fight since 2018, when Crawford made a move up to 147 lbs, to no end. With every fight both men had that was not named Spence or Crawford in the opposite corner, it just would not suffice. These two are destined to determine one another’s legacy. They are natural generational rivals. Now it’s actually happening.
Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia was huge because of the fight’s transcendence beyond the boxing fanbase. Heavyweight showdowns between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed championship and Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder, a fight between two of the leading heavyweight contenders and former big-punching champions, are colossal.
However, purely from a quality vs. quality standpoint, pound-for-pound vs. pound-for-pound, it does not get better than Spence vs. Crawford for all four belts in an undisputed welterweight showdown.
They’re a combined 67-0 with 52 KOs. They have both been pound-for-pound top five mainstays for the past few years. They may not be young studs anymore, with Crawford aged 35 and Spence 33, but neither man has shown any signs of decline yet, and both still appear in their prime. These two are simply the two best fighters of their generation in the same weight class, which happens to be the historically revered welterweight division; both still at their peak, with all the physical gifts, talents, and intangibles in the world, contesting for undisputed supremacy. It does not get any better.
Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns in 1981. Felix Trinidad vs Oscar De La Hoya in 1999. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Now, this generation is getting its welterweight super-fight.
This is the biggest welterweight match-up since Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, bar none. The only difference is, unlike Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, this fight is arguably not past its expiration date. Mayweather was 38 when they fought, and Pacquiao was 36. Both men were top pound-for-pound fighters at the time, but both were also clearly past their best. Mayweather only fought twice more, if you want to count that glorified Conor McGregor exhibition bout, a clear indicator that his days were nearing an end. Pacquiao was no longer the dynamic merchant he was a few years earlier. The ideal time for that match-up would have been 2010 or 2011.
Spence and Crawford are not much younger than Mayweather, and Pacquiao were when they fought, but these two appear fresher. Crawford has stopped his last 10 opponents, with his two most recent wins being a statement knock-out of Shawn Porter in November 2021 and a devastating KO of David Avanesyan in December 2022. Crawford turns 36 in September. Father Time could creep up on him at any moment, but that has yet to happen. Spence survived a terrible car crash in late 2019, lucky to prevail alive, and has since defeated Danny Garcia via unanimous decision in December 2020 and stopped Yordenis Ugas in April 2022 to unify three 147 lbs titles.
Spence and Crawford have simultaneously been champions at welterweight for five years. Spence has been a welterweight champion since stopping Kell Brook in May 2017, and Crawford became a champion at 147 lbs when he stopped Jeff Horn in June 2018. They have a combined 12 title defenses, with six defenses apiece. Crawford is the WBO king, and Spence is the unified WBC, WBA, and IBF champion.
Spence is not a pressure fighter in the same mold as Julio Cesar Chavez Sr or an aggressive brawler like Ray Mancini, but he does employ an educated, subtle, and relentless attack behind his strong southpaw jab. That consistent jab frequently sets up left-hand blows to head and body, with Spence arguably the most effective and accurate body puncher in boxing today. Spence has great footwork and is a master at controlling distance, but also really knows how to work his way on the inside. A combination of aggression, volume, body punching, and power from a man who is so physically strong at the weight but has also mastered the fundamentals of the Sweet Science makes Spence an extremely difficult opponent to prepare for.
Crawford is a complete fighter. He can box. He can punch. He can fight equally as effectively on the front foot and back foot and from either stance. He has power in both hands. Crawford has the ability to make adjustments mid-fight, unlike any other active fighter, with great instincts, and is a great counter-puncher. He is also arguably the best finisher in the sport today. Once an opponent is hurt, Crawford is ice-cold in the manner he does not let his opponents off the hook.
With the vast skill set at both fighters’ disposal, both men also have the heart, will, and toughness to grit it out and win a war of attrition when needed.
Spence and Crawford have it all. That’s what makes this fight so special.
The past greats had talent, but they became all-time greats because of a worthy rival that made them display what they were made of. Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier had one another. The Four Kings had one another. Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta’s rivalry cemented each other’s legacy and defined an era. Every true great needs a dance partner.
After everything Spence and Crawford have achieved, this is their chance to finally cement their greatness.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Yordenis Ugas fight: Five biggest storylines to watch ahead of the PPV showdown
At the age of 42 and following a two-year layoff, eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring on Saturday in a PBC on FOX pay-per-view bout against WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas.
Pacquiao vs Ugas Live Boxing Stream
Pacquiao will be once again fighting for the 147-pound title he won in his last outing, an impressive decision win over then-unbeaten Keith Thurman. But this weekend's showcase from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas won't be against the original opponent, unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., who withdrew last week due to a torn retina.
Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas fight
Let's take a closer look at the biggest storylines entering the Filipino icon's much-anticipated return.
1. How is it possible Pacquiao is still doing it at this level?
Pacquiao certainly won't be the first legendary fighter past the age of 40 to come back for yet another big fight. But when you consider Pacquiao is the betting favorite against an active champion despite his long layoff, and you consider how much the "PacMan" still relies upon speed and explosion as a boxer, what he is doing at 42 is simply remarkable. To put things into perspective, rising welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr., who won his biggest step-up fight to date last Saturday by knocking out Egidjius "Mean Machine" Kavaliauskas before calling out Pacquiao afterwards, was still three years away from being born when Pacquiao made his pro debut in 1995. Yet here we are, 26 years and many in-ring miles later after Pacquiao has consistently matched himself against the most dangerous foes available, he's still at it. Even Pacquiao's contemporaries like Floyd Mayweather, if they are still active at all, are largely returning for circus fights against MMA fighters and social media influencers. History offers very little for comparison sake to what Pacquiao continues to do, which is what made his initial intention of fighting the pound-for-pound ranked Spence all the more impressive.
2. Ugas is a downgrade from Spence, but not by much
Certainly, everything from the betting odds to the commercial expectations for Saturday's PPV fight shifted dramatically once Spence's name was removed from the marquee. Ugas (26-4, 12 KOs), who is more technician than destroyer compared to Spence (who is both), is also less likely a threat to send Pacquiao disastrously into retirement via knockout. Yet Pacquiao-Ugas is still an incredibly intriguing fight, particularly for hard-core fans of the game who have watched Ugas, a 35-year-old former Cuban amateur star, quietly transition from journeyman to contender, and now champion. Large for the weight class, Ugas will hold height and reach advantages against Pacquiao and is an incredibly disciplined counterpuncher with good defense and the ability to walk forward when he senses an advantage. While Ugas' experience against elite fighters isn't anywhere near that of Pacquiao (or even Spence, for that matter), he holds a handful of strong wins against Jamal James, Thomas Dulorme, Omar Figueroa Jr. and Abel Ramos. His best performance, however, likely came in a disputed loss when he was robbed of what should've been scored a 12th-round knockdown against Shawn Porter in 2019, which played a key role in his split-decision defeat. Although adapting to Pacquiao's speed and awkward angles is never easy, Ugas has the technical savvy to make key adjustments that could give Pacquiao fits. The Porter fight alone showed why Ugas should be considered just outside of the elite 147-pound core of Spence, Terence Crawford, Porter and Pacquiao.

3. Will the two-year layoff be a negative or a positive for this version of Pacquiao?
Yes, it's hard to look on the surface at Pacquiao taking off as much time off as he has during the pandemic as anything that can be called a positive, particularly at his age. Timing is everything inside the ring and one of the only ways a fighter can properly maintain that is by staying active. Looking back, activity has to be considered a key part of Pacquiao's most recent comeback when, in 2018, he emerged from a one-year layoff following a disputed loss to Jeff Horn by fighting three times over the next 12 months and riling off age-defying victories against Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman. Regardless of if he were facing Spence or Ugas, taking this much time off has the potential for Pacquiao to come out flat. But if there's a silver lining to the hiatus, it's that Pacquiao wasn't taking any damage and was able to heal up any nagging injuries. One thing that has allowed Pacquiao to maintain such incredible longevity has been his passion for training and the intensity in which he works out, even between fights. While this is by no means a preferred scenario to come back to the PPV level without a tuneup, there doesn't appear to be a lack of motivation in terms of the preparation, even with the late opponent change. Not only was the danger that Spence brought to the table reason enough for Pacquiao to leave no stones unturned in training, the fact that he's threatening a run for president of the Philippines in 2021 means doing so fresh off of a resounding win is a much more strategic scenario. Simply put: don't expect Pacquiao to be anything less than the best he can still be at this age.
4. Win or lose, this could be the final time we see Pacquiao in a big fight
Given his age, Pacquiao appears one bad loss away from retiring for good at any point, which he more or less agreed with during a recent interview with "Morning Kombat," where he remained focused on a wait-and-see philosophy regarding his future. Given his political aspirations, it's just as easy to imagine Pacquiao not having the time to train and compete should he fulfill his goal of becoming president of his native country. Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach shared a different opinion, recently stating he believes one of Pacquiao's remaining goals to be accepting and winning a fight as a sitting president. But Pacquiao stayed noncommittal. Either way, we are a whole heck of a lot closer to the end than the beginning of Pacquiao's incredible boxing journey, which makes this week that much more worth celebrating that he's still at it making big fights on the sport's grandest of stages, even though he and Mayweather have long handed off the baton to Canelo Alvarez as the biggest face of boxing's current era.
5. There's no shortage of huge fights remaining if Pacquiao still wants them
Spence's eye injury, just two years removed from miraculously surviving a dangerous car accident, certainly creates some questions regarding his future. Given Pacquiao's equal level of uncertainty due to age, the biggest lament of seeing Pacquiao-Spence fall apart this weekend is the fear that the window for this action-packed fight may have closed right before our eyes. But boxing fans have learned time and again to never say never and if Pacquiao can prove against Ugas that he's still got it and desires to keep making the biggest fights available, his options will be overflowing. Being the rare network and promotional free agent helps Pacquiao huge in this case. Not only would welterweight fights against Spence, Crawford, Porter, Ortiz, Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia or a rematch with Thurman be huge, there's a new crop in waiting of young fighters in and around 135 pounds who appear poised to take over the sport in the coming years. Imagining Pacquiao welcoming the likes of Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez Jr., Ryan Garcia or Devin Haney for a dramatic move up two divisions to challenge him is a mouth-watering proposition for fans.

Manny Pacquiao vs Yordenis Ugas Ready for their Aug. 2021 Title clash
Yordenis Ugas and Manny Pacquiao spoke to the media Wednesday about their WBA Welterweight fight on Saturday Aug. 21.
Boxing fans were stunned to learn that Errol Spence Jr. had been forced to withdraw from his scheduled IBF/WBC title fight against Manny Pacquiao Aug. 21 due to a retinal tear in his left eye. WBA 147-pound champion Yordenis Ugas, who is also the co-main event’s champion, will challenge Manny Pacquiao next weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao vs Ugas Live spoke to the media Wednesday during a virtual conference to preview their WBA title fight.
The senator from the Phillipines made it clear that, despite his opponent’s change, he doesn’t overlook Ugas at all and is thrilled to see that the hard work he has put into training will not go unnoticed.
Pacquiao stated that he does not take Ugas lightly and said so at the presser. It will be a great fight. It will be intense and I am sure I will make my fans happy.“
Ugas was originally scheduled to face Fabian Maidana during the Pacquiao–Spence co-feature, but Maidana sustained an injury in a Monday training session. Although Ugas knows he is the underdog, he will not stop fighting for his rights in the ring, win, lose or draw.
Ugas declared, "I am someone who fights and leaves everything.” It will be the most important night in my career, which I began at six years of age. They are going to support me and I am confident that they will not disappoint.

#whatshot #djblaze #onthewatch It's All About @errolspencejr vs @yordenis_ugas #spenceugas #fightnight #boxing ☝🏿🥊🔥 Blaze-Errol let his hands go early and did not stop pounding his opponent right from the jump. Both combatants surprisingly fought from the “phone booth” style not giving each other an inch but it was Spence who was getting most out of that tactic due to the higher volumes of punches being thrown with power. I was surprised by Ugas’ “game plan” or lack of considering going toe to toe with Errol requires you to dish out a punch output to at least deter him from coming forward. Ugas gave back but was looking more at placing his punches rather than keeping up with Spence. Allowing Spence to have his way helps him build his confidence and encourages him to keep applying nonstop pressure with no real fear of anything coming at him. Ugas had some moments inside that squared circle and even caught Spence slipping in the 6th round with a couple of heavy shots that caught Spence’s attention and visibly hurt him, but Ugas didn’t capitalize on that momentum and once Spence shook if off, he went back into “beast mode” throwing heavy punches looking for that get back.As the rounds progressed Ugas’ right eye was swollen shut from the pounding, he was receiving from Spence who by then was breaking his opponent down round by round. The inevitable was near.By the tenth round Ugas became a punching bag, absorbing punishment after punishment coming from all angles prompting the referee to send Yordenis to the ringside Doctor who than decided Ugas could no longer continue seeing out the right eye. Errol won by technical knockout and became the New Unified WBA “Super”/WBC/IBF Welterweight Champion of the World. Well done. Error Spence Jr. is “The Truth” hands down inside that squared circle. This performance by Spence last night proved once and for all that your Boy is back 100% from all previous setbacks. The only thing next to do is to challenge WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford (38-0, 20 Kos). Two undefeated Champions laying it all on the line for Undisputed.
