And we're back! I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to do for this prompt (and didn't really want to draw over a meme), so I ended up doing two things. The image is one, but there's also a bunch of incorrect quotes (mostly pulled from this generator) under the cut with these same characters. I'm also gonna list who's who below, so the quotes make a bit more sense.

Well, I will say that I just finished The Mistress Experience by Scarlett Peckham, coming out 6/25. It's SO SO GOOD, can't recommend it enough, and it focuses on a sexually inexperienced (not virginal) hero who hires the heroine, a famous courtesan, to teach him how to be good in bed for when he gets married. Obviously, their first couple of encounters aren't GREAT and there's some really interesting stuff done regarding experience and stuff. SO GOOD.

Dark Needs at Night's Edge by Kresley Cole has the virginal Conrad Wroth get with Neomi, a former burlesque dancer who's super experienced. I don't even think he makes it inside her the first time lol and he's very UGH OH NO I SUCK and she's like petting his head very understanding all "don't worry bb you'll figure it out". It's actually quite cute.

Actually, in Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole when Rydstrom takes Sabine's (technical) virginity she REALLY doesn't like it. She's not like... traumatized? But he's very caught up and she's like telling her sister "well, NEVER doing THAT again". (She does that again.) Rydstrom is an AAAAALPHA so he's like "well I am in fact going to make her come five billion times".

A Rose at Midnight by Anne Stuart (which is, to be clear, a dark historical romance with dubcon between the leads at first) has a variation of this. She's pretending to not be into it but she is (though she doesn't come the first time because she's trying to enjoy it and is angry that she's enjoying it) and he's like... devastated by the fact that he came REAL FAST (after telling her he wouldn't lmao) and she didn't and SHE HAS THE UPPER HAND!!!! They're both kinda morons in love I love them. He is determined to get that upper hand lol.

In Nobody's Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, they have very mid sex twice (where he's actively like "I don't even know why??? I want to have sex with you so badly???") but after she gets pregnant, very much by her design, and he forces her to marry him (lmao) he does eventually resolve to fuck her good.

His at Night by Sherry Thomas has a very sort of like... quick and ouch first time, and there's a lot of resentment between them, but he does make it up to her for sure after being like "yeah I flubbed that".

Bass-Ackwards by Eris Adderly has a very WEIRD kinda coercive first time wherein the heroine gets fucked over her boss's desk in exchange for some PTO (and he's like in the moment all "can I fuck your ass" and she's like "I guess???" which was a choice) and then later he actually tries to give her good sex lol.

Act Your Age by Eve Dangerfield has a variation on this wherein the hero and heroine have great sex throughout the book, BUT one of several elephants in the room is that he won't go down on her, and I thought that was dealt with in a really interesting way.

Run, Posy, Run by Cate C. Wells has a hero and heroine in a relationship at the beginning of the book that's really disconnected, and he honestly doesn't care to really give her good sex and she doesn't really know to expect it... And then he's tricked into thinking she's cheated, she goes on the run because he's a mafioso, he realizes he was tricked and chases after her, and realizes he needs to go back to the drawing room sexually as part of his efforts to get her back. And boy does he.

The Chief by Monica McCarty has the hero and heroine have sex in a situation where he didn't actually know it was her lol, and she was a virgin so it was a big surprise ouch deal, and then he couldn't even finish... So after they're subsequently forced to marry, he kinda has to fix it lol.

Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas has the infamous scene where Harry withdraws because he thinks he's causing Poppy agony (he's not it just hurt a bit and he freaked out and stopped and was all I'M A MONSTERRRR) and he basically ghosts and Poppy has to be like "YOU GET BACK HERE AND FUCK ME GOOD".

I haven't been a resolutions person for a couple of years now but I admit I do love a challenge and goal setting. I also love reading. I'm sure you don't need the title to tell you where this is going. I've had goodreads since Sept, 2016 and have been taking part in their reading challenge since 2020. I've met my goal evey year except 2021 and I hope to make three years in a row this year!

2023's goal was an ambitious 48 books and I somehow managed to read 48 (I attribute a good 1/3 to getting a library card and access to libby). 18 of those books were comics/manga though and while I do believe anything with a ISBN counts, I'd like for comics & manga to only be about 25% of my books instead of the current 38%. I feel like I might be setting myself up a bit but I'm not going to be too upset if at the end of the year, I don't lower the percentage. This is just a bit of fun.

An NYPD warehouse filled with DNA evidence that was destroyed in a massive fire was still smoldering Wednesday, with authorities no step closer to determining how many criminal cases may be effected by the blaze.

Nearly 24 hours after the fire began, FDNY Fire Marshals have just begun combing through the remains of the Erie Basin Auto Pound on Columbia St. in Red Hook as a team of firefighters continue to put out small blazes throughout the building.

“We still have units on scene operating on hot spots as needed,” an FDNY spokesman said. “Fire Marshals are on scene investigating the cause and origin.”

The NYPD can’t go in and catalogue what evidence was lost — including from some cold cases — until the embers from Tuesday’s 10:30 a.m. blaze are cold. It remains unclear what, if anything, can be recovered from the heavily damaged building, which suffered a partial collapse.

The city’s Department of Buildings has been tasked with conducting a structural stability inspection of the warehouse to see if the building can be salvaged, an agency spokesman said.

The DOB will also be checking neighboring buildings to see if their stability was compromised by the fire. At least one adjacent business claimed that the blaze caused his building to shake and vibrate, the agency’s website noted.

Fourteen NYPD employees and six contractors were working in the warehouse when one of the contractors saw smoke coming from a “high shelf,” said NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey.

The warehouse contained hundreds of seized e-bikes, dirt bikes and ATVs along with “biological evidence” — clothing and other items that were tested for DNA, Maddrey said.

Most of the evidence was for criminal cases that stretch back decades, Maddrey said.

“I would estimate that most of the contents [inside] are damaged by the amount of fire in there,” FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens said Tuesday.

If that evidence was destroyed, it could affect scores of people whose criminal cases are pending appeal, according to Joel Rudin, an attorney who specializes in wrongful conviction cases.

“If DNA evidence from old cases is destroyed it’ll make it even harder to establish innocence,” Rudin said. “It’s the defendant’s burden, years after conviction, to prove actual or likely innocence, and this will make it harder in some cases.

“If forensic evidence was destroyed that, if properly tested, might indicate a current defendant’s innocence, such defendant’s chance of an acquittal will decrease,” Rudin said.

NYPD Deputy Commissioner Julian Phillips said the department will catalogue what was damaged or destroyed and will make notifications to the relevant agencies.

Three firefighters, three EMS members and two civilians suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

Hurricane Sandy destroyed 5,000 55 gallon cardboard drums filled with DNA evidence when the ground floor of the facility was flooded by the storm surge, police said.

The NYPD uses the auto pound to hold all the illegal dirt bikes and ATVs cops seize from city streets. Vehicles that are evidence in criminal investigations, such as cars that victims were shot inside, are kept there as well.

Co-Owner of Binary Options Company Sentenced to Prison for Tax Evasion

Company and Co-Owner Ordered to Pay Approximately $6 Million in Fines and Restitution

Jared Davis, the co-owner of a binary options company headquartered in Sandusky, Ohio, was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Friday, Jan 27. 2023, by U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary after Davis pleaded guilty to multiple counts of tax evasion.

According to court documents, between 2012 and 2016, Davis and his business partner ran a binary options investment scheme that regularly committed fraud.  One of the multiple entities involved was Erie Marketing LLC, which was headquartered in Sandusky, Ohio.  The options businesses used various trade names, including OptionMint, OptionKing, and OptionQueen.

A binary option is a concept in which an investor seeks a future payout based on the future price of a given security or commodity.  Binary options are sometimes traded on regulated exchanges that match two investors, one who believes the price of the asset will go up and the other who believes it will go down. 

Court documents state that Davis and his partner used call centers, including those run by Erie Marketing LLC, to solicit individual investors in the scheme to deposit money, often through credit cards, into foreign bank accounts that they controlled.  Court documents state that Davis used this money to pay expenses, which included employee salaries, facility fees, fees to the companies that supplied the trading platforms on which the options businesses operated, and internet marketing services.

As part of the scheme, Davis created several shell companies and used a network of foreign nationals and foreign bank accounts to receive credit card payments.  Court documents state that Davis and his partner ultimately controlled this process and would eventually repatriate the money to a local Ohio bank, using it to pay employees and other expenses.

Davis pleaded guilty in April 2022 to tax evasion after he failed to file personal tax returns for tax years 2014, 2015, and 2016.  According to court documents, Davis had a substantial additional tax due and owing for each of 2014, 2015, and 2016 as a result of the options scheme and made numerous attempts to avoid the payment of taxes.

Judge Zouhary also sentenced Erie Marketing, LLC, to serve three years’ probation and to pay a fine of $4.4 million and restitution to all identified victims (a total the United States expects to be approximately $650,000).  Further, Judge Zouhary sentenced Davis to 30 months in prison, a fine of $300,000, restitution to the IRS, three years of supervised release, and to be jointly and severally liable for the debts of Erie Marketing, LLC. 

The exact restitution will be determined at a later date, but the United States expects that all known victims will be fully repaid from funds already collected. 

This case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) and the Cleveland FBI.  This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Segev Phillips, Brian McDonough, and Gene Crawford, with guidance from Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzana Koch of the Financial Litigation Program and Victim Witness Specialists Allison Kretz and Gail Hollis.

Life wasn’t always so easy for Phillip Knightley. Not that he’ll ever let you know that! 

He’s been a Camp Swynlake year-rounder since the tender age of 12. He easily makes friends with every camper, though he has a soft spot for his half-siblings, of course. He’s also kissed many campers (and been slapped by many of them). His parties are legendary. He’s always down to sing by the campfire, or cheer up a fellow camper. He has a smile on his face and a laugh in his voice and a skip to his step.

(He doesn’t tell anyone about why he doesn’t go home. He doesn’t tell anyone about the mortal man who married his mother, and how he struck young Phillip down. Phillip kept moral up during the war, and afterwards, he found great success by basically being a professional party boy — everyone loves DJ Phil Good, and he’s played some of the most epic festivals around the world! He pleaded guilty to a violation of the Narcotic Drug Act when arraigned in Windsor police court this morning Sand was sentenced to a one- year term in jail. --- LOCO WEED Carlone was charged specifically with having "cannabis sativa" the drug which is contained in the marihuana cigarets, and is the product of what is commonly termed Mexican loco weed. Three members of the Royal Canadian Mounted. Police detachment, Constables Jones, Crangle and Jesse, had been observing Carlone's movements for several days. Last night they trailed him to Detroit watched, unnoticed, while he made his purchase and then followed him back to the Canadian shore. When the boat dock- ed they had him pulled aside by Customs officers and then proceeded to F search his pockets.

There have been other instances where youths were found in possession of the drug but last night's seizure was the largest on record here.

MAKES CRIMINALS In action the drug has been found similar to other narcotics in that it at seems mentally stimulating at first but after being used habitually over a period has a deteriorating effect on the brain tissues. Users of the drug have been known to commit criminal acts while under its influence. pr During the week-end one man was se turned over to local authorities by Detroit police after he had confessed the pmurder of Mrs. Pearl Senko, Elsmere avenue woman found drowned in a barrel. While he was proved innocent of the crime his "confession" was thought to have been prompted through consumption of the marihuana weed. Carlone was sentenced to six months in jail and a fine of $206 was also imposed. In default of payment of the fine an additional term of six months was provided by Magistrate Brodie. Carlone was unable to pay and accordingly was committed to prison for the full year term.

ASKS SENTENCE John Tierney, ex-member of the Sweet Adeline gang whose melodies were wont to waft from City Hall Park in days long past, was sentenced to a six-month term in jail at his own request. He appeared as a drunk accused of his third offence this year.

Those not acquainted with Tierney's history might be inclined to wonder at his odd request but those who know him recall that little more than two weeks ago Pat Cribbens was sent down for a six months term. John and Pat are old pals, in fact they are believed the only surviving members of the Sweet Adeline crew and for years have enjoyed their freedom and their jail terms together.

CHARGE DISMISSED A reckless driving charge against A. J. Phillips was dismissed when Magistrate Brodie found that he and the complainant, 10-year-old Raymond Madison, of 62 Windermere Road, were equally to blame.

The charge developed from an accident at the intersection of Giles Boulevard and Howard avenue on the evening of October 5. Phillips was making a turn off Howard avenue when he struck Madison's bicycle, knocking him and another lad off the wheel.

Magistrate Brodie found that PhilIpis made too short a turn but he also found that Madison, a member of the Kiwanis Boys' Band, was also violating a few rules by (a) having no light on his bicycle, (b) carrying an extra passenger, in addition to a trumpet case, on his bicycle, and (c) by his failure to stop at Howard avenue in obedience to the traffic sign.

The court recommended Division Court as the proper place for the parties to thresh out their individual measures of responsibility and determine the amount of damages, if any. that might be assessed. Four of the witnesses in the case marked as many different spots on the plan as indicating where the accident actually occurred. Of the four places those marked by the accused and the complainant were closest together.

TRAFFIC FINES Traffic fines imposed totaled $42.50. R. G. Longmoore, 313 Josephine avenue, and Joseph Meloche, 1303 London street west, were fined $10 each for having no operator's licenses. Speeders were Donald Fleming. 141 Rankin boulevard. fined. $7.50; Norman Renaud, 652 Hall avenue, fined $8, and Bernard Reaume, of Riverside, fined $5. Albert Owen, of 1194 Howard avenue, was fined $2 for passing a traffic signal.
