Heist Gone Wrong
Another snip for @era-the-witchy-birdkid's Super!Conan AU
"You caught up fast, Tantei-kun," Kid complimented his current rival. "The longer legs from that growth spurt of your are serving you well." "I can be much faster." Tantei-kun smirked. "I just wanted to give you a fair chance." "Ah, but I still managed to get this." With a flick of his wrist the brilliant-cut jade, rumored to be cursed, appeared in his hands. Tantei-kun paled and dropped to his knees, which Kaito thought was a little dramatic (though he perhaps shouldn't be one to talk.) Then he started sweating and gasping for breath and Kaito wondered if he was really being dramatic or if it was something else.
When one of his favorite detectives collapsed on the floor looking like he was either having some kind of seizure or body-wide muscles spasms any thoughts of dramatics were gone.
Steam seemed to be rising from Tantei-kun's skin and he locked feverish eyes with kid, struggling to say something.
"Gem," he finally managed to gasp out. "Poison."
The gem was poison? That didn't sound right. Kaito glanced over to where it had fallen on to the museum floor. In the shadows it no longer seemed like it was glowing. It absolutely was. Was this a side effect of the supposed curse on it?
Kaito ran the stories about the curse through his mind. It was nothing like what was happening to Tantei-kun. Infertility, balding, stomach sickness to the point of vomiting up blood. And several things clicked together at once.
The glowing gem wasn't magic, wasn't cursed. It was radioactive.
Kaito's eyes scanned the display and there! Pewter drinking goblet from ye olden Europe, that contained lead. He grabbed the cup by the stem and slammed it over the gem.
The result was immediate. Tentei-kun's spasming stopped. He sat up, weakness apparent in his movements (and had his clothes gotten bigger on him? They had. Were those weird spasms Tantei-Kun shrinking?)
Then Tantei-kun's eyes glowed red and a twin beams of light shot form them, sealing the cup shut with the gem inside.
"I'm not taking the blame for that." It was maybe the least important thing about this while mess, but he felt the need to say it.
Tantei-kun looked at him with eyes that had just melted metal and those eyes contained nothing but fear. Right, he was probably never supposed to find out about this. "You're not a normal human, are you?"
The answer was obvious and Tantei-kun hid his head in his too-long sleeves.
"Well, you're far nicer about it than other's I've met."
That got his attention and the little detective's head shot up. "Others?"
"Well, one other. She was perhaps a tad bit homicidal towards me at first. Then she got a bit stalkery. I have to say I much prefer you. I assume that's was the cause of your reaction to the stone?"
"I guess." Tantei-kun shrugged. "It wasn't in any of the records I found, but it's possible they never came in contact with it."
"Would your parents know?"
Tantei-kun shook his head. "I'm adopted. They know what I am but no more than that. And my people were wiped out. I'm the last. So there's no one to ask."
The last of his kind. That was... okay, that was a lot that he wasn't prepared to deal with on what was supposed to be a light low-stakes heist. "Do you want me to call Mouri-san?" "No. Agasa-Hakase, please." Tantei-kun sounded exhausted and out of it.
Kaito gently took Tantei-kun's phone and called the old man with his voice. His task force was likely closer, in the wrong wing, mind. But given what he'd just learned about Tantei-kun any medical aid they could give was likely not what he'd need.
~
Several days later a thick lead box was sent to the police station with several stickers on the openings that said 'Do not open' and an envelope with Kid's logo and the words 'This Box is not a place of honor'
Inside the note read:
My Dear Task Force,
I have once again returned what I have taken, but this time extra precautions were needed. You see, there is truth about this jewel glowing and causing misfortune to those that held it. But it is no mystical work at place. The stone is, to put it bluntly, mildly radioactive. Testing has revealed it shouldn't cause problems with short term exposure, but is absolutely not safe to put on display. Or be handled as casually as it has been. I had to get tested for radiation poisoning and I suggest anyone who handled it in it's current and former locations be tested the same.
Don't worry, I'll check the next target I select with a Geiger counter so this doesn't happen again.
Best Wishes, Kid.

Please tell me the shades find him again only now he can see them! I want that reunion so much.
I like the idea of Conan becoming a ticket to freedom rather than a prison for Shinichi. It changes his whole view on things. And Ran ebing in the know helps too!
Do the kids find him when they check out the 'Haunted Edo house'? I can't wait to read more of this!
Always Been a Phantom
Hey @phantoms-lair here is the first bit of that AU. Tropical Land was canon until this point here is just how Kudo become a Phantom
Shades
Shades are the barely there ghosts of people who died but were unable to first form in the ghost zone, unable to be touched or heard they float around following people they care for or just interest them
Kudo Shinichi had a lot of these ghosts following him as his work in solving cases, stopping crime, and bringing justice to the dead. Means he has many thankful shades following him around in his day to day… but today every shade by his side is crying as their helpless to stop the fact he was poisoned.
25 shades were following Kudo Shinichi when the BO hit him with a baseball bat and force-fed him an experimental poison. 25 shades search the nearby area for other shades willing to give comfort to a dying hero of the dead. 25 shades find three more shades each willing to give comfort, weirdly the 100th shade was almost about to say no when he suddenly changed his mind
100 shades end up trying to comfort Kudo as he laid there poisoned by the experimental drug APTX 4869, leaving behind a bit of their essence with every attempt it wasn’t a lot about the same amount as person breathes in dust in a single breath, but with 100 shades each doing multiple attempts at comfort it added up fast. Fifty shades could only comfort him twice before they were spent, Forty shades could comfort him three times before they were spent, and the last ten each one a shade that Kudo personally helped bring peace too could do almost five each.
As each shade spent their energy giving comfort they left not willing to see Kudo actually die… but if they stayed they would have seen something odd.
You see Kudo was never going to die form the poison he was naturally to ghost-like too do so instead of dying he was going to turn into a six-year-old but with all that built up ghost essence also known as ectoplasm to those who study it and ghosts. You see APTX 4869 is a very strange drug especially if you’re unaware of the supernatural element that exists in this world, and APTX has this weird quirk of being able to bind itself to ectoplasm and multiply it.
If their was just one less shade giving comfort that night this couldn’t happen, but given that their was something rare happened. A threshold was reached and APTX instead of shrinking Kudo changed his species instead…

New School New You.
For @era-the-witchy-birdkid's Super!Conan AU
Elementary School was demeaning, boring, and it was taking all he had not to snap at the next kid who asked him what kind of weird name 'Conan' was.
Maybe he should snap? That might be more believable for his apparent age. Ugh, this sucked.
And while he appreciated the easier gym class to the Kishida-sensei's drill sergeant approach, it was perhaps too far in the other direction as the gym teacher had just set them up on a soccer field with some balls and left them alone??? That couldn't be legal. Still it was nice to be outside. He hadn't had much time for playing since he'd quit the soccer team to focus on cases and the sun on his skin felt good.
Still it was nice just kicking a ball around. It had always helped him think. And the sounds of being impressed from his new classmates were much better than jabs about his name and well...he had always been a bit of a show off, so why not give his new classmates a show?
He bounced the ball up and then kicked it as hard as he could. The ball whizzed past the goalies head - and kept going. It stretched the net to capacity and broke through, slamming into the oak tree of the other side before knocking it clear over.
Tumblr media
No way.. Conan fell to the ground, staring at the damage he had inadvertently caused, the poor goalie sobbing on his knees. The gym teacher finally reappeared and ran to comfort him before shooing all the kids back in to get changed out of their gym clothes. His classmates gave him a wide berth and he honestly couldn't blame them.
Still, there had to be a logical reason. Old netting on the goal post, rot in the tree, something. He went back to the scene of the incident after school to gather evidence. Sure this wasn't a crime, but this was a case and he was going to solve it.
It looked like the net had already been removed, so he'd have to concentrate on the tree. Cursing his tiny legs he had to stand on tip-toe to see the broken area and-
"What are you doing?"
Conan almost fell over in surprise. He turned around to see three of his new classmates staring at him. "I'm trying to find out why the tree fell over."
"Cause you kicked the ball at it!" The larger one proclaimed.
Conan narrowed his eyes. "A kid can't knock over a tree with a soccer ball. Not even a grown up could do that. There must have been something wrong with the tree." Hmm, it looked healthy enough, but he couldn't say anything without looking at it under a microscope. He pulled a chuck of wood out and it gave way easily. "See!" He waved the wood around. "On a healthy tree I'd need a cutting tool or something to get that out." "Unless," The tall thin boy countered. "It broke because you have super strength. Obviously then you pulling it out wouldn't change anything because your hand are as strong as your legs."
Conan rolled his eyes. Kids. "Super strength isn't a real thing."
"The prove it!" The larger boy countered. "Prove you don't have super strength."
"How?" Conan asked dryly.
The three kids converged together and whispered, then turned to face Conan, ready to give their answer.
He crossed his arms. "Is it something that would get me hurt if, as I said, I don't have super strength."
The three kids looked at each other and returned to their huddle. When they broke this time the girl spoke. "You need to try and break something that we know isn't easily broken. Like a piece of metal!"
"And where are you going to get the metal? I'm not breaking the soccer goalposts."
"There's construction work going on around the Columbo restaurant. I bet there's something there!" the thin boy declared.
"Great idea, Mitsuhiko-kun!" the girl complained.
The boy now identified as Mitsuhiko-kun blushed. "Thank you, Ayumi-chan!"
Two names down, at least. "Let's go and get this farce over."
~
The site had already closed for the day, but it was easy enough to sneak inside.
The larger boy, who'd since been identified as Genta, tried to lift up and I-Beam and could barely budge it. "That should do."
"Anything to get this over with." Conan grabbed the beam with both hands and froze. He pantomimed trying to lift it, appearing to strain his muscles. "See?"
The three kids looked disappointed. "I guess there was something wrong with the tree after all," Mitsuhiko sighed. "Sorry for bothering you."
Once they'd left, Conan looked at the underside of the I-Beam. There were indents from his hand, indents he'd felt himself making. He looked over to where Genta had grabbed it. Nothing.
Almost mechanically he slotted his hands back to where the indents were and pulled in opposite directions. The I-Beam tore like tissue paper.
Conan stared at the twisted metal What did that poison do to me?

Pretty sure Ryuji is going going to end up swearing by the Royal Knights by the end of Cyber Sleuth (Because what have gods done for him except cause problems and Omnimon is chill)
Also Akechi is special he is the first Wildcard Who is also digidestined, Mirei is so annoyed with Yaldabaoth, though she has to help Akechi unlearn all his terrible habits. At least by opening his heart to his Digimon makes opening his heart even further easier
Akechi's bonds I came up with for the Hackers Memory side of things
His Digimon- Fool It also represents his journey as a digidestined
Keisuke- Chariot ( Because if there's ever a goggles-kun Arcana, it's Chariot)
M. Ryuji- Tower
Ekira - Death ( I got spoiled for the end of hackers' memory)
Nokia - Lovers or Sun
Yuuko- Empress
S. Ryuji- ??? He has a bond with him, but just have yet to decide one for him because I can't come up with one that isn't Chariot or Fool, and both of those are already taken. Ryuji is literally planned to be the bridge between the two teams for Strikers because I plan for Akechi to end up creating his own team by accident for the jail shenanigans (Keisuke [Who will remember everything thanks to the bond with Akechi], Nokia, Arata, and Yuuko as navi)
Mirei - Strength, she is basically his attendant. So this one was kind of Obvious
Futaba- Judgment Also obvious
Arata- Hermit He's basically male futaba so what else I was supposed to put him as?
Chitose - Lovers or Sun
And yes I'm doing this as and ask instead of my normal messages because I want other people to see my brainstorming for this wonderful fic idea
I love hearing more about this!
Maybe the Star for Skull Ryuji? It has connotations of faith, hope, and renewal.
Which, Ryuji has all of those things but not in the way most think of them. His faith isn't in some nebulous higher power. It's in himself and his friends and allies. And his hope isn't a desperate 'Things will get better, I just know it'. It's 'Things will get better because I am going to make them better, even if I have to ascend to Heaven and strangle God with my own two hands.'
And both of these are interpretations and are much more likely to resonate with Akechi.
As for renewal Ryuji has kinda already had to be reborn from his own ashes once when he transitioned from Track Star to Phantom Thief. And I think he acts like this for Akechi by renewing his bond with his former...I don't know if Teammates works considering the everything but yeah.
I also love the idea of Ryuji coming up with new expletives based on his experiences that make no sense to almost anyone not in his immediate friendbase.
"What in the name of Velvet?" (Is he referring to the Velvet Room in place of Heaven or Hell? He's not specifying)
"It's all Digimonji to me,"
"Honest to the Royal Knights."
And on one memorable occasion "Trickster Damn It", which was memorable because it made Akiren spittake his coffee, and he will likely never live that down.
