エピックドゥームと呼ばれる括りは、正直よくわからない。起源と言われるCANDLEMASSからして、所謂正統派パワーメタルに距離が近いと思うし。このREFLECTIONに至っては、BLIND GUARDIANかPOWERWOLFかと思ってしまった。CANDLEMASS彷彿曲はあるにしても。このアルバムは確か日本のお店からエピックドゥームの触れ込みで出ていたものを買ったはずなのだが、Metal-Archivesを見るとEpic Heavy Metalとなっているのよな。もしかしたら、日本のお店やレビュアーの認識に問題があるのかもしれない。 ドゥーム系にありがちなまずBLACK SABBATHありきな意識がなく、ルーツを気にせず聴けるのはいいことだと思うけどね。基本ロックは誰でもパっと聴き理解出来る事が理想であり、素養や文脈や共通認識を押さえてないと理解がかなわない事は、本来は決して褒められるものじゃないと思うよ。やむを得ない領域はあるにしても。

Old Gods of Asgard are a bit of a meme, especially within the gaming community because of their music being featured in the Alan Wake franchise and also in Control. They're pretty decent, but their music is even better in the videogames they star in! I'd give them a good ol' listen to! I recommend: Dark Ocean Summoning. Herald of Darkness and The Sea of Night!
