Building Safety: Benefits of Pigeon Nets
Urban areas are often plagued by pigeon infestations, leading to various health hazards and property damage. One of the most effective solutions to this problem is the installation of pigeon nets. Sai Ram Safety Nets Chennai offers top-quality pigeon net solutions designed to enhance building safety and maintain cleanliness. In this blog post, we will explore the numerous benefits of pigeon nets for building safety.
1. Health and Hygiene:
1.1 Disease Prevention: Pigeon droppings are a known carrier of diseases such as histoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and psittacosis. By installing pigeon nets, you can prevent pigeons from roosting and nesting around your building, thereby reducing the risk of these diseases and promoting a healthier environment.
1.2 Cleanliness: Pigeon droppings can create unsightly and unhygienic conditions on window sills, balconies, and rooftops. Pigeon nets help maintain cleanliness by keeping these areas free from droppings and nesting materials, making regular cleaning tasks less frequent and less arduous.
2. Property Protection:
2.1 Prevent Structural Damage: The acidic nature of pigeon droppings can cause significant damage to building materials, including metal, concrete, and stone. Over time, this can lead to costly repairs. Pigeon nets act as a protective barrier, preventing droppings from accumulating and preserving the structural integrity of your building.
2.2 Avoid Clogging: Pigeons often nest in gutters, drains, and other openings, causing blockages that can lead to water damage and other issues. Pigeon nets prevent birds from accessing these areas, ensuring that water drainage systems function properly.
3. Safety Considerations:
3.1 Minimize Slip Hazards: Accumulated pigeon droppings can create slippery surfaces, posing a risk of slips and falls. By installing pigeon nets, you can keep walkways, ledges, and other surfaces clean and safe.
3.2 Reduce Noise Pollution: Pigeons can be noisy, especially when they congregate in large numbers. Their constant cooing and fluttering can be a nuisance to building occupants. Pigeon nets help create a quieter environment by preventing birds from roosting near windows and other areas.
4. Aesthetic Benefits:
4.1 Maintain Building Appearance: Pigeon droppings and nests can mar the appearance of a building, giving it a neglected and dirty look. Pigeon nets help maintain the aesthetic appeal of your property by keeping it clean and bird-free.
4.2 Transparent Options: Modern pigeon nets, like those offered by Sai Ram Safety Nets Chennai, are available in transparent or color-matching options that blend seamlessly with your building's exterior, ensuring they do not detract from its visual appeal.
5. Cost-Effective Solution:
5.1 Long-Term Savings: While there is an initial cost for installing pigeon nets, the long-term savings are substantial. By preventing damage and reducing cleaning and maintenance expenses, pigeon nets prove to be a cost-effective investment for building owners.
6. Easy Maintenance:
6.1 Durable and Weather-Resistant: Pigeon nets from Sai Ram Safety Nets Chennai are made from high-quality, UV-stabilized materials that can withstand harsh weather conditions. This durability ensures that the nets remain effective and require minimal maintenance over time.
6.2 Simple Cleaning: Pigeon nets are easy to clean and maintain. Regularly removing any trapped debris or dust will keep the nets in optimal condition and ensure they continue to provide effective protection.
7. Environmental and Humane Approach:
7.1 Humane Bird Control: Pigeon nets offer a humane way to control bird populations without causing harm to the birds. This is important for maintaining ecological balance and adhering to wildlife protection guidelines.
7.2 Eco-Friendly Materials: Opting for eco-friendly pigeon nets made from recyclable materials can further enhance your building's sustainability efforts.
Conclusion: Pigeon nets are an essential addition to any building in urban areas, providing numerous benefits from health and hygiene to property protection and aesthetic maintenance. Sai Ram Safety Nets Chennai offers high-quality pigeon net solutions that ensure your building remains safe, clean, and visually appealing. Investing in pigeon nets is a proactive step towards enhancing building safety and preserving the value of your property.

The Unpopular Truth About Electric Vehicles | Mark P. Mills
It is often taken as a given that electric vehicles are friendlier for the environment and that we will all inevitably be driving them in the future. In this short video, Mark P. Mills of the National Center for Energy Analytics questions the government’s push towards EVs, and whether these “givens” are true.
“It is often taken as a given that electric vehicles are friendlier for the environment and that we will all inevitably be driving them in the future. In this short video, Mark P. Mills of the National Center for Energy Analytics questions the government’s push towards EVs, and whether these “givens” are true.”
The physicist has some awkward facts for those that are pushing EV’s - because they are somehow environmentally friendly – they aren’t. Even if half of all cars on the roads become EV’s, they will reduce CO2 emissions by just 10%. In the meanwhile, each 1,000-pound car battery requires the mining 500,000 pounds of rock – and the processes used to extract, refine and create a chemical battery require a lot of fossil fuels. The lithium in a lithium io battery is a tiny fraction of the battery – the rest s made up of all sorts of metals ores and minerals.
Oh, and the Inflation Reduction Act subsidised each EV with 30,000 bucks and the manufacturers of EV’s are still losing 50,000 bucks per EV.
The hypocrisy of raping the earth “over there” so the smug can virtue signal and say “look how green we are” is matched only by the ugliness and cost of “renewable” energy AND the actions of “green” countries like Norway and Australia that export “fossil fuels” to the EU and China – and pretend they aren’t contributing to CO2 missions.
And that is quite aside from the fact that there is no climate crisis or CO2 issue I the first place.
Smug and stupid is, as smug and stupid does.

one of the reasons im so cynical about things like electric cars and slow fashion retailers is because reusing what already exists will always be better for the environment than creating brand new “eco friendly” things… its a marketing ploy most of the time and also i feel like a lot of peoples relationship with so called environmentalism is vibe based… ie they like the feeling of driving an electric car bc it feels like theyre doing something good when in reality it wouldve probably done more net good to buy a 20 year old gas car and then walk/bike ride some days when possible… same with clothes and other consumer products

Researchers uncover a rapid, efficient and environmentally friendly method for selective lithium recovery using microwave radiation and a readily biodegradable solvent. A microwave-based process boasts 50% recovery rate in 30 seconds. The "white gold" of clean energy, lithium is a key ingredient in batteries large and small, from those powering phones and laptops to grid-scale energy storage systems. Though relatively abundant, the silvery-white metal could soon be in short supply due to a complex sourcing landscape impacted by the electric vehicle (EV) boom, net-zero goals and geopolitical factors. Valued at over $65 billion in 2023, the lithium-ion battery (LIB) global market is expected to grow by over 23% in the next eight years, likely heightening existing challenges in lithium supply.

As socialists, we need people to believe real, positive change is possible. Most people can’t see beyond the current system, but they can tell that it is broken. This leads to hopelessness and apathy. Complacency. I believe real change is possible, but change is not on the ballot this election, or indeed any election (except, perhaps, negative change: a cancelling of the meagre improvements to the social safety net added in the past few years under a potential conservative government, and international trade leading to the disempowerment of workers - whether that be in the form of a return to free trade or a continuation of these new tariff policies). The conservatives offer suffering, the liberals no relief, and the NDP the smallest of reforms. Socialists must be the ones who offer real change for working people. Let’s look into the failures of each of the 3 major parties.
Firstly, conservatives don’t only want to maintain the system, they want to make it worse - on an accelerated course. They’d cut from healthcare and possibly eliminate dentalcare, pharmacare, and childcare entirely. Conservatives believe cutting taxes is an affordability measure - rather than a give away to the rich. They have no plan for climate change whatsoever and are endorsed by billionaires - both Canadian and American. They hate unions, they hate the poor, the hate those who are addicted to substances or who cannot find shelter. They want to make life harder for the masses so the rich can exploit us harder. They’ve promised to repeal labour-friendly legislation, privatize more infrastructure, and weaken regulations around dangerous industries — all while offering up hollow culture war distractions to keep people divided and misinformed. Their base is kept loyal through fear and resentment, but their donors are loyal because the Conservatives deliver: lower corporate taxes, deregulation, and union-busting. Their political project is one of austerity and authoritarianism: dismantling public services, criminalizing dissent, and gutting environmental protections. While they talk about "freedom" and "choice," their policies concentrate power and wealth into the hands of corporations and the ultra-rich.
On the other hand, we’ve lived under the liberals for nearly 10 years, and things haven’t gotten better. Rent has gotten more expensive because liberals side with landlords and speculators over working people who need a place to live. Food has gotten more expensive because liberals side with big grocery chains ripping us off over the right of people to eat, and it’s not like farm workers are paid well in return. In fact, the UN recently called the temporary foreign workers program, which the agricultural sector gets the most permits for, a "breeding ground for contemporary forms of slavery." Other essentials like telecommunications have also become more expensive, as the liberals side with monopolies over people, as demonstrated by allowing Rogers and Shaw to merge. All of this while they lie and flip flop on the issue of the day, whether it be climate action or Palestinian liberation. Let us not forget, the liberal government under labour minister Steven Mickenen (now reassigned to “jobs and families”) broke 3 strikes (or 4, depending how you count it) using section 107 of the labour code last year: the rail workers in august, dockworkers in November, and the postal workers in december. Carney hasn’t shown any sign of changing this - much the opposite. He worked for Goldman sachs in the 1990’s and early 2000s - right when jeffery sachs was “advising” the post-soviet economies, otherwise known as crushing the solidarity movement in poland and helping yeltsin and his cronies sell off the state in russia. He’s more recently worked at brookfield - a corporate landlord and tax dodger, among other things, which recently announced that “the future is debt” - meaning they make money off of the suffering of the working class by burying them in debt. As prime minister, his first moves have been lowering the capital gains tax and a cabinet shuffle which seems to get rid of important positions like disability minister and gender equality minister - now subsumed into steven guilbeau’s culture ministry, and rename a whole set of ministries (including labour) into the portfolio of “jobs and families” and give this important position, now with a less pro-labour framing (not that the liberals were ever pro-labour, as discussed before) to everyone’s least favourite minister and strikebreaker in chief: steven mickenin.
So what really makes a liberal government different from a conservative? The record shows… not much, with the two parties voting together to block progressive reform over 600 times between 2004 and 2021, according to the breach. Their policy consensus includes “huge tax breaks to corporations, a punitive criminal justice system, a less generous social welfare state, a restrictive immigration system, a hugely profitable private pharmaceutical regime, pro-corporate trade deals abroad, and opposition to expanding workers’ rights.” Under Paul Martin, this came in the form of blocking anti-scab legislation, which has now been forced through by the NDP, more restrictive immigration rules and less accessible EI, maintaining unsafe federal workplaces by refusing to ban “psychological harassment,” and siding with pharmicetical companies over people who require medicine to live. Under stephen harper, the party duopoly agreed to refuse to enforce safe practices by the rail companies, allow pollution, maintain the right of the defense minister to authorize offensive overseas missions without the approval of parliament, refuse to give lighter sentences to young people, refuse to compensate those who’s employer robbed them by not contributing to their pension, passing back to work legislation (which the Harper government used many times, including against workers at Air Canada, Canada Post, and CP Rail), advancing free trade, passing bill C-51 (the anti terrorism bill), lowering the capital gains tax (which the liberal government undid and then re-did), passing the “Zero Tolerance for Barbaric Cultural Practices Act” (bet you didn’t know the liberals voted for that one), and refusing to increase safety standards for pregnant or nursing employees. Under the trudeau government (up to 2021), they refused to coordinate a strategy to end poverty, refused to guarantee housing as a right, continued selling weapons abroad (tanks to the Saudis and bombs to Israel etc.), refused to expunge records for past crimes relating to (now legal) cannabis, refused to enforce international law, allowed for discrimination based on “social condition” (which I think means class?), failed to adequately regulate commercial fishing, refused to commit to paris climate goals, refused to establish national pharmacare (now partially pushed through by the NDP), allowed the Canada Pension Plan to invest in unethical businesses including ones which do not meet basic environmental or workers’ rights standards, refused to establish national dentalcare (now partially pushed through by the ndp), and refused to establish a wealth tax or provide affordable telecommunication services. This long record shows what we’ve always known to be true: liberal, tory, same old story.
If not liberals or tories, why not the NDP? The NDP claims to be the party of the working class. They do not fill this role effectively, and they are losing ground in the polls because they cannot offer a real alternative to capitalism, instead framing themselves as slightly nicer liberals who will expand pharmacare and EI: good ideas, but not nearly enough. The NDP plays a frustrating and contradictory role in Canadian politics. On the one hand, they have used their position to push through partial wins — the early stages of pharmacare and dental care being key examples, as well as anti-scab legislation. On the other, their refusal to break with liberalism in any meaningful way makes them appear weak and directionless. Instead of mobilizing the anger and desperation many working people feel, they seek to temper it — framing small reforms as radical change while avoiding confrontation with the wealthy. They speak the language of justice but fear the consequences of acting on it. Even within their own party, there’s a tendency to sideline grassroots voices in favour of PR consultants and central office messaging. This alienates not just the left, but ordinary people who are tired of being pandered to without being listened to. If the NDP cannot define itself against both the liberals and the conservatives — if it cannot imagine and fight for a world beyond capitalism — it risks irrelevance, even as conditions worsen.
So what of the election? I do recommend voting to avoid the worst (for example, i’ll be voting for Elizabeth May next week when advance polling opens even though I don’t particularly like her or the green party) - but that is a minimum “action”, and cannot be the extent for our politics. The liberals are winning because they’re the “rally around the flag” party. Carney can get away with offering less because people are scared of Trump and American dominance in international trade - which is a real problem. But the problem isn’t america, or americans, most of whom are working class people just like in Canada and every other nation, but the american bosses and corporations who seek to take over every industry everywhere they can with the cheapest labour available. And due to this newfound (especially among liberals) nationalism, people forget the enemy at home. People cheer for loblaws and SNC lavalin (or whatever they call themselves now) as brilliant examples of Canadian industry. Company groups appear on the news - sometimes next to union representatives - in a disgusting display of class collaborationism against the perceived enemy. Canada needs neither an election nor a trade war - it needs a socialist revolution to bring true democracy and true freedom to the Canadian worker, and eventually, the workers of the world.

Report hails benefits of the EU's multi-billion-euro environmental action
A cost-benefit analysis by the European Commission says nearly €3.5 billion of EU money pumped into real-world environmental schemes through the LIFE programme gave a tenfold return on investment – justification, green groups say, for massively ramping up spending.
The EU’s flagship environmental protection scheme has improved the conservation status of 435 species while cutting greenhouse gas and nitrogen oxides (NOx) pollution, producing a tenfold return on the €3.46 billion invested in the seven years to 2020, the European Commission has claimed in a review of the last budget period.
The LIFE programme is the only European instrument which directly funds environmental action on the ground, with the 1,167 projects supported during the 2014-2020 period, ranging from ‘traditional’ projects like boosting vulture populations in the mountains between Greece and Bulgaria to supporting policy makers in redesigning the EU emissions trading system, which sets a cap for industrial carbon emissions.
Energy saved amounted to the average energy consumption of nearly a million European households, while carbon dioxide was cut by 11.8 million tonnes a year, equivalent to the net annual emissions of Cyprus, according to the report published on Thursday (1 August).
The yearly production of NOx, another greenhouse gas which is also linked to respiratory illness, was cut by around 152,000 tonnes – more than Portugal emitted in 2019, the EU executive noted.
A relatively small proportion of the funding was used to co-finance the purchase of 3,127 square kilometres of land at a cost of €83m, helping to expand the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, which covered some 18.6% of the EU’s land mass by 2021, according to the European Environmental Agency (EEA).
“LIFE contributed to the overall objective of moving towards an environmentally friendly economy that uses resources wisely, lowers carbon emissions, and can withstand climate changes, as well as protecting and improving the environment,” the report concludes.

Solar Panels for Home in Coimbatore: On-Grid Benefits
Tumblr media
As the interest in renewable energy grows, many homeowners in Coimbatore are considering the installation of solar panels. One of the most efficient ways to harness solar panels for home is through an on-grid solar system. This blog will explore the benefits of installing solar panels for homes in Coimbatore, focusing on the advantages of on-grid systems.
What is an On-Grid Solar System?
An on-grid solar system is directly connected to the public electricity grid. This means that during the day, your solar panels generate electricity, which is first used to power your home. Any excess electricity is sent back to the grid, and you can receive credit for this through net metering. At night, or when the solar panels are not generating enough power, your home can draw electricity from the grid.
Advantages of Solar Panels for Home in Coimbatore
Reduced Electricity Bills
Benefit: The primary benefit of installing an on-grid solar system is the significant reduction in your electricity bills. Coimbatore receives ample sunlight throughout the year, which means your solar panels can generate a substantial amount of electricity, offsetting your grid consumption.
Net Metering
Benefit: Net metering allows you to send excess electricity generated by your solar panels back to the grid. This can result in either reduced electricity bills or, in some cases, credits that can be used in future billing cycles.
Low Maintenance
Benefit: On-grid systems are relatively low maintenance compared to off-grid systems. Since there are no batteries involved, there is no need for regular battery maintenance or replacement.
Environmentally Friendly
Benefit: By using solar energy, you are reducing your carbon footprint. Solar panels produce clean, renewable energy that does not contribute to air pollution or greenhouse gas emissions.
Government Subsidies
Benefit: The Indian government offers various subsidies and incentives for solar panel installations. These can significantly reduce the upfront cost of your solar system, making it more affordable for homeowners in Coimbatore.
Disadvantages of On-Grid Solar Systems
No Backup During Power Outages
Drawback: On-grid systems do not provide power during grid outages. This can be a limitation in areas with frequent power cuts unless paired with a battery backup system.
Initial Installation Cost
Drawback: While solar panels can save you money in the long run, the initial installation cost can be high. However, this can be offset by government subsidies and long-term savings on electricity bills.
Solar Panel Costs in Coimbatore
The cost of installing solar panels for homes in Coimbatore varies depending on the size of the system, the type of panels used, and the complexity of the installation. On average, the cost can range between ₹40,000 to ₹70,000 per kW. For a 3 kW system, which is suitable for most homes, the cost would be around ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,10,000.
Long-Term Savings and Return on Investment (ROI)
ROI: With the savings on electricity bills and the potential income from net metering, the ROI for solar panel installation in Coimbatore can be as short as 4 to 6 years. After this period, the electricity generated by your solar panels is essentially free, leading to substantial long-term savings.
Zero Electricity Bills: During the summer months, when air conditioners are running continuously, many homeowners report zero electricity bills thanks to their solar panels. This is especially true for homes with a 3 kW or larger system.
Conclusion
Investing in solar panels for your home in Coimbatore, particularly an on-grid system, is a smart decision. It not only reduces your electricity bills but also contributes to a greener environment. With the added benefits of government subsidies and the potential for net metering, now is the perfect time to make the switch to solar energy.

Members of the NZBA committed to a set of anti-human principles that included transitioning to “net-zero” emmisons, or rolling back human progress for the sake of the climate hoax narrative. The initiative was launched with the goal of aligning the banking sector's lending, investment, and capital markets activities with the objective of achieving “net-zero” greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner. They set to achieve “targets” by claiming, based on the opinions of carefully selected “climate scientists,” (think: those on the payroll of the cartel) that humanity had the ability and the resources to dial back the temperature a few degrees Fahrenheit above pre-industrial levels. Of course, what they never reveal is that such maneuvers will harm the entire world’s population for the sake of the climate narrative mafia.
The NZBA amounted to a massively powerful banking cartel that pushed a poisonous set of incentives to harm human flourishing. Not only was it insanely destructive to human progress, it represented a series of initiatives that sought to undermine economic freedom and national sovereignty. This “global governance” aspect of the agenda put American banks at odds with the interests of their American customers and partners. Extreme ideological U.N. environmental policy was essentially dictating domestic banking practices.
It served as an ideological imposition on the financial sector. The NZBA sought to distort the free market, by committing banks to following specific ideological goals, forcing financial institutions to prioritize political objectives over economic reality. Capital was consistently being misallocated towards destructive but "greener" projects, and we will see the remnants of this junk for decades to come. Instead of lending based on the viability and profitability of projects, they were forcing clients and partners to meet arbitrary “environmental” (political) benchmarks. Of course, this had disastrous impolications, it stifled innovation, and destroyed growth in traditional sectors (oil, gas, etc) and companies run by non-aligned boards that were deemed not ESG friendly.

On The Tide Masterlist
Bucky Barnes, but make it ‘Environmental Activist AU’. And also queer. Always queer.
Tumblr media
Chapter One - “We are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected on the deep.” Trans!Bucky – known here as Winter, because everything links back to Multitudes, okay? It started it all – gets a job fighting for the innocents of the ocean – and seems to be of particular irritation and interest to his new Captain.
Chapter Two - “The heart of man is very much like the sea, it has its storms, it has its tides and in its depths it has its pearls too.” Winter's true nature is revealed, the Captain finds him a hinderance and an optimistic bastard, but the sailor’s rough exterior is stripped  away a little. CW: Vomiting (seasickness), surgery mentions, historical physical trauma mentions
Chapter Three - “We ourselves feel what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” The Captain is a reluctant caretaker, looking after a needy newbie who is under the weather and desperate for affection and comfort. CW: brief discussion of traumatic, historical injury; sickness (non-vomiting).
Chapter Four - “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” Winter gets in an altercation for his ‘laziness’, and his Captain comes to his defence. CW: Implied risk of violence
Chapter Five - “The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.” Winter almost makes a dire mistake, and Lieutenant Tyne shows exactly why he’s the Captain. CW: Threat to life, drowning, loss of consciousness, vomiting (seawater), firearms and GSWs, sharks, shark finning practices.
Chapter Six - “There’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it’s sent away.” Things are tense after the accidental kiss, and Lieutenant Tyne learns more about his newest recruit. CW: Mentions of homophobia and criminalisation of homosexuality, vague references to theoretical SA.
Chapter Seven - “A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” The ship prepares to dock for repairs, and the crew reduces by one. CW: homophobia, transphobia, mentions of institutional homophobia and the death penalty.
Chapter Eight - “The Sea is a Desert of Waves, a Wilderness of Water.” A friendly face is found in the back alleys of an Indonesian town, and Win's safety is compromised. CW; Discussions of finning and endangered animal trade. Implied drugging, implied kidnapping/ransom.
Chapter Nine - "The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles." Winter’s captors reveal their true intentions. CW (contains spoilers!); Kidnapping, torture, physical abuse, slave sale, non-con virginity auction.
Chapter Ten - “The sea has never been friendly to man. At most it has been the accomplice of human restlessness.” Winter, Greg and Neri do what they do best, with both expected and unexpected results. CW (contains spoilers!); Dead body, canon-typical violence, gun use, graphic violence, risk of MCD, implied sexual violence, human trafficking references.
Chapter Eleven - "Every Time I Slip Into the Ocean, it's Like Going Home." The boys live with the after-effects of the kidnapping, and how to move forward… Together. CW: Discussion of gunshot wounds and captivity, non-graphic medical care, smut, AAAALLLL the smut. Full smut warnings in prompts.
Chapter Twelve - "If You Want to Know How Much I Love You, Count All the Waves in the Sea." It's the final chapter ;-; Everyone's favourite Pretty Ship Boys celebrate their freedom. CW: Smut, in varying degrees of BDSM-ish-ness.

World Dugong Day
Every year, on the 28th of May, it is celebrated the World Dugong Day! 🧜
Dugong is known as the sea cow (pic attached 🐮 - x). Why sea cow, you ask? These animals can be found in coastal environments feeding exclusively and extensively on seagrasses. The largest remaining population of Dugongs can be found in Australia (i), while the closest to the United Kingdom can be observed in the shallow waters of The Arabian Gulf (ii) 🌊
Why are dugongs important? 🧐
According to the Dugong & Seagrass Conservation Project (iii), dugongs contribute to maintaining balanced marine coastal environments, while also representing good indicators for local ecosystem health. Their presence is of course linked with seagrasses, which not only represents these herbivore mammals’ only source of food: seagrass sits at bottom of food chain in coastal environments (iv). Moreover, it provides important ecosystem services such as fish products, reduced erosion and flood protection (v). In other words, dugong presence is the manifestation of healthy ecosystem. Terrible news is: they are classified as vulnerable species (vi) 😰
Why are they declining? And how is climate change impacting their population? 😭
Dugongs are sensitive creatures not exempt from anthropogenic (modern age) disturbance. They have been largely hunted by humans for its meat, fat and oils, which caused significant population reduction (vi). Also, seagrass species are under extreme pressure due water quality variations largely driven by climate change (vii) and further human activity (viii). In addition, their slow reproduction rate and long life span (around 70 years) make them less resilient from not-environmentally friendly fishing practices (ix) 🎣
What can be done to support them? 💪
The Australian Great Barrier Reef and Marine Park Authority (i) provides the following recommendations:
1. Protect coastal habitats - Do not damage seagrass by dragging boats on underwater meadows and act against pollution, eutrophication and herbicide use deriving from land-based activities 🚜
2. Avoid use of mesh nets - Dugongs can get trapped in fishing nets 🥅
3. Boat responsibly - Dugongs are hard too spot while sitting on high speeding boats. Reduce speed while crossing shallow waters and seagrass meadows. If you spot one, it is likely it will not the only one in the area 🚢
4. Report - Just like for other sirenians, as well as cetaceans, it is essential to report injured/dead dugongs to local authorities ☎️
5. Donate - Dugong & Seagrass Conservation Project covers the conservation of dugongs and their associated seagrass ecosystems in eight countries in the Indo-Pacific region: Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu. MODERN HISTORY
1ST BLOG _The Irvine Company - James Irvine / RELEVANT FIGURE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Irvine Company is known for its commitment to water conservation and sustainability in its real estate developments. For more than 150 years, The Irvine Company has sought and implemented innovative ways to conserve and protect Irvine's precious water resources at Irvine Ranch. Today, The Irvine Company is a privately held real estate investment company governed by an independent board of directors. The Irvine Company is recognized for its master planning and environmental stewardship of Irvine Ranch in Orange County, including diversified operations throughout coastal California. As you can understand, the James Irvine Organization had a great relevance in the area of water conservation by creating several dams and reservoirs in the various streams of the Irvine Ranch, because of this generous inversion that had a long with it many benefits for the earth and its environment, we must remember that water is an important resource for the environment, so whatever it has positive repercussions on it will be positive in general.
James Irvine was a pioneer of California agriculture, building his family's Southern California ranch into one of the state's earliest and most productive large-scale agricultural enterprises. During the "Great Drought" of the 1860s, James Irvine and three partners purchased the land that would become the Irvine Ranch. Droughts plagued Southern California and the ranch for the rest of the century. Between 1920 and 1940, the Irvine Company spent millions on water development and conservation. This included drilling hundreds of wells and constructing a series of dams and reservoirs on the ranch's various streams. Later, the Irvine Company began widespread use of water-saving fixtures - such as low-flow showerheads and toilets - in homes, hotels, and office buildings in Irvine and elsewhere on the Irvine Ranch. In the 2000s, the use of reclaimed water throughout Irvine was made even more effective by the company's commitment to state-of-the-art irrigation systems that include "smart" irrigation controllers, drip and low-flow water delivery devices, and satellite-based weather data controls, among other technologies.
IMPORTANT PERSON: James Irvine - Bought the land where the Irvine Ranch is located and where the Irvine Company was founded.
The company was founded by James Irvine (Irvine family) and is currently 100% owned by Donald Bren. Because the company is privately held, its financial information is not available to the public. However, Bren is the richest real estate developer in the United States with a net worth of $15.3 billion as of April 2021. But if we must talk about numbers, I will mention some of the people involved in the company, referred to as the “Executive Group”:
Executive Committee: Charles Fedalen Jr, Frank Abeling, Mare Ley and Jonathan Brinsden.
Real Estate Division Executives: Roger DeWames, Ken Gillet, Todd Keller, Alan Parkin, Roger Ploum, Teresa Prestwood and Tom Sullivan.
Corporate Executives: Gino Bianchini, Rob Elliott, Mark Henigan, Paul Hernandez, Jason Maxwell, Bryan Stevens, Darren Thomas, Kevin Wagner and Abe Wong.
The Irvine Company converted the community's irrigation system to recycled water in March, saving an estimated 7.3 million gallons of potable water annually.
The result of this company's actions was that they helped to start recycling water in a high percentage by including it in their multi-family houses, since they are involved in this area, and the water saving forms they included were like an extra benefit.  The impact it had on the level of public service for what they sold was high because it was more convenient and environmentally friendly for the customer who was thinking of buying the commercial properties offered. Since the impact was great, the water conservation started to bring something serious in between people who actually think of acquiring one of their services the company offers.
The relevance that this company has today is that it is concerned that water is not wasted by unconscious people, although this company cannot simply force these people to conserve water, at least they try to give a message of awareness to these people. Currently, water conservation is almost zero, especially in countries like Chad or Angola, because in these countries there is not enough drinking water for all the people who live there, this is where the great benefit that this company gives to the responsible use of water comes in.
For resuming all this relationship between the Irvine Company and water conservation, it's very smart from their part to start this kind of good things since they not only gained more customers and clients but also get benefits from the environment we live since is like we are starting to solve this big problem we all know about water consumption by starting to conserve it. Although this company is not so well known by the young people of today, there is no doubt that the owner of this idea had a very good purpose in risking his money with something that could help save water and reduce the level of waste of this important resource. Really, this is something that the young people of today should admire.

Tumblr media
Hey, guys! I know I haven't posted in a while but that was because of me just starting college last week and I caught a cold a few days ago. I'm feeling better now so, I've posted a new KND oc! Hope you like her!
Tumblr media
Meet Cordelia Waves, the environmental friendly mermaid! She's not part of my Sector QT au but she's an OC for C:KND. Here's some facts about her!
Cordelia loves to keep things tidy and organized.
She collects trash and trinkets she finds in the ocean.
She met the Filthy Crew when she was accidentally caught in a fishing net from the S.S Stinkypants. (The Filthy Crew returned after they survived going down the great drain and are still on the run from Moby Duck) They thought it was another boy until they saw her face and mermaid tail.
When the boys saw her, they were immediately captivated by her (1. because it's been so long since they saw a girl and 2. she was really pretty).
The boys often fight over her attention and try to charm her but Cordelia is oblivious to that and just thinks they're just being really nice.
Cordelia was scared but was fascinated about seeing humans for the first time.
Captain James P. Dirt was skeptical about letting a mermaid on board since he heard how mermaids can use their voices to drown sailors decided to let her on her ship when Cordelia assured him that she was a good mermaid and that only sirens do that. The crew put her in a kiddie pool so she wouldn't dry up (the kiddie pool was used for mud bath).
She wasn't exactly fond of the dirt and mud in the ship but since the crew was unbothered by it, she supposed she could tolerate the mess.
She's not too much of a neat freak but when there's too much trash and dirt, she goes berserk and starts to clean everything until it's squeaky clean.
She's curious about life on land and is fascinated by the Filthy Crew's lifestyle (even if it is a little bit dirty and stinky).
She likes being carried by the boys (it makes her feel like a princess!).
Cordelia claims she's not a good singer but when she sings by herself, the boys sometimes eavesdrop and thinks her voice is like an angel!
Her favorite songs would be Sirenix from Winx Club, Mermaid by Train and Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid.
She is inspired by Ariel and Tidy from The Little Trashmaid.
She has a pet blowfish named Buoy who can squirt water from his mouth. He usually does this to the boys who try to flirt with Cordelia.
The crew sometimes ask her about what life underwater's like.
Everyday, she swims back to the S.S Stinkypants to see her friends and goes on adventures with them. She also helps protect them from Moby Duck/Mrs. Dirt.
During one of their adventures, Cordelia got the power to turn human thanks to a magical pearl. Now the boys think she's even more cuter!
Captain James mostly facepalms at the sight of his boys being lovestruck by Cordelia. He rolls his eyes and mutters, "boys will be boys..."
Her nickname is Delia.
She told some of her closest friends about the Filthy Crew but keeps it a secret from her parents and other mermaids and merman since for now, mermaids aren't ready to meet humans.
Here's a picture of human Cordelia!

Next time, I'll post some headcanons about Captain James and the Filthy Crew including some headcanons about Cordelia.
