OH MY GOD I HSVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS QUESTION.

So my main reason and that english and spanish history runs extremely deep. But my main reason is that in 1509, king Henry the 8th married Catherine of Aragon. Now take that as a union of countries. Spain and England getting married as basically teenagers. And do you know how hopelessly teenagers fall in love? Very. And whats even more interesting is that in 1516, Spain joins the house of Hastburg, meaning Spain and England would have broken up prematurely. And from that point in history onwards England and Spain do not get along what so ever!!! Not once in history since Catherine and Henry got married are Spain and England ever on the same side.

Especially since the English were very vapid supports of Portugals independence. The only time they get along is in 1815. *1815!!!* basically 300 years of hating eachother!!! And during this time spain would have fallen in the Napoleonic wars if it was not for England placing troops there!!!

And even then if you want to think of it modernly Spain is a definite silly guy and England is an old man. I have this specific headcannon of them in the 1970s getting along because England was going through its punk era and Spain was going through a sexual revolution. Two people who were once the prime of royal society, now two scum of societies in love making out in random bars because they have never felt so alive than not adhering to their counties rules. All they’ve ever been in political puppets and it’s finally time to start living!

But obviously two emotionally repressed scum bags wont last, and they have a rough break up. Over 20 years of soul searching later and they find eachother again. Better than ever. And fuck it why not give it a try.

I think they’re pirate era IS important, but not their most important! I honestly think Portugal and England’s relationships helps fuel SpUk more than anything! Especially since Spain is horrible with men (he gets sooo many bitches but cannot keep them smh)

Here’s something i wrote a bit ago:

England loved Spain when he was younger but Spain left him for various reasons. England kept hope that maybe, one day, Spain might see the light in him, through all of the darkness, love him again. But he saw the house of Hatsburg. He quickly realized that the Spain that he loved, and the Spain that he saw we’re no longer the same person and so he quickly broke out of that toxic mentality and went into a more toxic and worse mentality, one of pure hate.

Spain had broken his heart so now he was going to break him.

He was going to take everything from him, even if he had to follow him to the deepest oceans or the blue blazes of hell.

Spain and England are constantly changing, that is the base of their relationship. Once he realizes that Spain is not a power, that he is anything but, he falls in love with him again, because he’s finally realized that Spain isn’t a two dimensional person. He always saw everyone in black and white.

you were one way and until he saw you act in a completely different way, you would stay as you once were in his mind. But seeing such a striking change in Spain made him rethink, a man who was once so great, a man who he tortured and killed countless times, wanted to run away from his life as a country to be with HIM.

Anyone would change their way of thinking.

Can someone explain SpUK's appeal without mentioning pirate stuff? I've been curious for a while, because even in fanworks taking place in modern day, the pirate segment of their history seems to define their entire relationship.

I'm mainly curious about what aspects of history people use (besides pirate stuff) to define how they interact overall. I know history doesn't always have to be involved to ship something, but since there aren't many canon interactions I figure fans probably pull from it (and maybe culture too) in order to have an idea of how they act with each other, right?

Additionally, I wouldn't mind hearing about interests they have in common. For instance, I know they both like gardening.

''BLOOD WEDDING'' by Aogiri is one of the best doujinshi series I've ever read. There was a time when I was so fascinated that I sat down and tried to analyze them with thousands of words 😭

One of the details that I'm still speechless about is how Aogiri describes the France and Spain relationship.

All those who have personal feelings for Spain such as England (our main boyfriend for Spain in doujinshi <3), Austria (ah ex-husband who knows all your sins), and Southern Italy (#1 defender for Spain) in doujinshi admit that the kidnapping and blinding of Spain are crazy.

But then, France still wants more.
