hands
My little flashfire comic :3
Again I will add the words in text form bc I think ppl don't know if ppl can read what I write
(Scout is sat on the bed)
Scout"py- what's gotten into you? Normally you don't wanna talk in your room, is there something wrong?"
Pyro "mph" (no)
Pyro *big inhale *
Scout : woah...
Scout : so theese are the hands i get to hold all the time? What cool scars!
Scout: hey! Do ya think i could see your face ssomeday?
Pyro : mmph mph (maybe)
This is an idea that's been ranking around in my head for a hot minute, I was gonna draw more of scout holding pyros hands and gently rubbing and kissing them, but I dint have the energy.
But yeah, some established relationship fluff for yall, as a treat

I was too exited to wait till later so we gonna do this now
Archimedies (I hope that's spelled right ,also Ive draw the bird so much he gets a Stat now) 4
Ms Pauling: 8
Demo: 10
Sniper : 13
Spy: 14
Heavy :17
Soldier : 19
Scout : 22
Medic : 27
Engi: 28
Pyro 39
So some personal thoughts on theese stats: I like drawing have now I blame the heavy tf2 person for it( skewing my statisics again smh /j (/pos))
Also I gotta draw demo more! If anyone has incorrect quote suggestions for demo lmk because for some reason I feel as tho I need an excuse to draw them .
Also I wasn't sure how to count the drawings that are just pyro and scouts hands, i did count them but you could make an argument that scouts score should be 21 and pyros should be 36.

C!Ranboo headcannons!!:
(art by @C0RPSING on twitter)
• So, Ranboo is an anxious person, probably he owns some toys to deal with anxiety that he keeps on his suit or in a messanger bag he carries
• Sometimes when it's Christmas or any events or it's dark and he is without his torches, he places little jolly lights on his horns creating a tall walking lamp
• He doesn't own just a memor book. He has SEVERAL, some have photos, doodles, notes, objects glued, but he eventually just abandons them and starts new ones because he thinks the memory books aren't "up to date" anymore to his current moment
• He likes to dress fancy and presentable because he finds this way he can create impressions of being more in control and less scared than he actually is, probably also a fan of ouji lolita, vintage, victorian, goth and grunge fashion
• I like to imagine C!Ranboo loved to map all the places he was so he'd never forget them, so he creates little maps of things like L'Manberg or the syndicate room or just designs in general of how these places are because he wants to keep a forever fresh memory.
• Isn't THE artist, but can draw, loves to draw landscapes and animals but barely draws people, also I always imagined C!Ranboo played violin or piano or both, having an old and rusty out of tune piano on the syndicate room together with the syndicates other instruments and vinyl player and records and discs
• An all nighter type of person, sleeping all morning and part of the noon and only waking up when it's night, probably due to his enderman side since enderman tend to appear more on the night and The End was always quite dark like the night
• Grossed out by enderpearls and hates to use them thinking if maybe it ain't an eye of a relative of his or something, also hates when people kill enderman in front of him, WOULD CONSIDER ENDER FARMS AS GENOCIDE.
• Obviously non-binary and gay so yeah.
• I imagine he'd love cats but be scared of them at the same time, loves bats though
• Loves to collect random bs and keep in a corner of his house, probably a collector of a lot of different stuff like discs, books, quills, anything really due to his enderman instincts of just picking random bs
• Always has a pair of headphones with him
• Probably the time he was the most unhappy and unstable memory, anxiety and depression wise was L'Manberg, all the wars, the feeling of dread of maybe losing your home and friends, being constantly manipulated and used, not knowing who to trust, keep remembering stuff you don't want to, make things you didn't want to, the fear of dying, I can say this was the time he just isolated himself and followed others more than ever
• He DEFINITELY can't do stuff under pressure and will break easily, can't deal with expectations and hates when people observe him doing things even the simplest

I'm going to draw ender as a dad and no one can stop me
he is aroace but he loves his wife a lot
he calls her his wife but they're just co parents that screw eachother sometimes
ender is aroace in the way that he feels no romantic or sexual attraction but if someone wants him to show physical or romantic affection he does cause he really dosent care
he knows how to walk in high heels
this isn't my idea but my friend kept asking me if novinha was smoking hot and the more I think about it she probably is
ender and novinha are like total opposites and everyone is confused how they even agreed to get married
everyone knows that novinha was the one that wanted to marry him and ender is just along for the ride
ender is generally liked in lustainia
ender is a great cook but he can't sew at all
novinha is competitive about her cooking and she hates that ender is often times objectively better at cooking complicated dishes then her but enjoys the food
I want them to be healthy and loving as possible ok let me be
novinha has a lot of needs and I feel like ender is the only person in the universe to ever meet all of them
and even he eventually falls short when something out of his control happened
AND LIKE THIS MAN IS 60 AND HE WENT AND PICKED UP HIS 40 YEAR OLD CHILD FROM A TREE
gosh I love ender
I dont like this headcanon of mine but for me I have this really strong need to stick to the Canon and make sense of the things are said in the Canon so
OK SO WHEN HE WAS IN THE SHIP AND THIS GIRL WAS TRYNA FLIRT WITH HIM AND HE WAS LIKE "I admit I was attracted to her, but I simply cannot love someone" AND LIKE I KNOW ITS NOT HOW AROACE EXACTLY WORKS BUT I THINK SOME OF HIS RELATIONSHIP TOWARDS ATTRACTION WAS FUCKED UP CAUSE OF TRAUMA AND THE IDEA OF "I don't deserve to feel love and happiness" AND THAT JUST MADE HIM LOOSE ALL INTEREST AS A HALF CONSCIOUS TRAUMA RESPONSE
LIKE I THINK HE NEVER HAD ANY DESIRE TO GO THROUGH WITH HIS VAGUE ATTRACTION (he himself says that several times) BUT I THINK THE REASON HE LOST ALL INTEREST IS BECAUSE HE JUST DIDNT THINK HE DESERVED IT AND OVER TIME HIS BRAIN JUST LOST THE CHEMICAL RESPONSE
I KNOW THIS IS PROBABLY HIGHLY INACCURATE AND IT FEELS SO MUCH BETTER TO JUST CONSIDER ENDER IN EXILE AS FANFICTION THAT NEVER HAPPENED BUT I NEED IT TO MAKE SENSE ANYWAYS
miro and grego looks exactly the same
both of them are offended at this fact
no one asked me to share these headcanons I just had too
I haven't even shared half of my headcanons
I shared like 3%
this series and jekyll and hyde is my life and I'm not happy about it
more people need to talk about virolomi
AND ALSO SURIYAWONG???
NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE I LEND YOU A KNIFE LINE????
SERIOUSLY?
AND GIVE MORE CONTENT FOR PETRA
LIKE THE WOMEN IN THIS STORY IS AWESOME WHY DO PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MIRO MORE THEN JANE
SISTER CORALTA? (I forgot how to spell her name but you know who I'm talking about) SHES LIKE MY 5TH FAVORITE CHARACTER??? AFTER ENDER VAL PETER AND JANE
LIKE I FOUND 0 STUFF TALKING ABOUT HER
I WAS SO UPSET
as a person who dosent get faith her character was so interesting even when I had no idea what she was saying
LIKE THATS GOOD WRITING PEOPLE
I CARED ABOUT HER WITHOUT RELATING TO HER
AKDJDOSNDIJEJD
I'm in a car and I just woke up from an hour and a half long rode trip nap I'm so sorry if I made no sense

Minecraft rottmnt au?? Oh please tell more
-☆staranon☆
Ok now that I’m actually confronted with the task of putting my thoughts to print I’m drawing a bit of a blank, but I’ll try and ramble about some of it here! (thank you so much for the ask!!!)
The gist is, through mystic mishap (Mikey trying to save him from the prison dimension) Leo is sent hurtling through dimensions to Minecraft. It’s a silly little doodle au I made up after playing Minecraft a few days too many.
Leo, once thrown into the world, is left injured and alone without any means of escaping. So he’s forced to travel aimlessly, searching for any information as to how to get home. He finds strange structures that sometimes contain more information about the world and what had happened before. (Kraang invasion)
This all takes place hundreds of years after the kraang had been evicted from the world so we’re following Leo as he discovers the after-effects of wide scale kraang takeover on a world that defeated them.
Creepers are actually the last surviving “kraang” left on Minecraft, save for a few exceptions we’re still ironing out. They are both self destructive and green due to a fungus based bioweapon the “old ones” (those who fought the Kraang before) used in the war.
(Zombies are also an unintended side affect of this)
They kinda plague Leo specifically because I feel like it would be funny (traumatising). They’re pretty rare normally but he seems to attract them for some reason.
There’s a bunch of other stuff we created as well, like the kinda history of the villager and illagers (the villagers live in a kind of isolated cult society) and the political connections between the different old-one societies and why each of them individually fell to the Kraang or joined together.
In all honesty I’m bad at writing story elements, or character writing. likelyhood is I’m not gonna do much with this au aside from doodles maybe every now and then.
If I was to outline a kind of story it’d be how he goes from structure to structure discovering more about the stories of those who all died during the war against the kraang whilst trying to track down more information about “the portal”.
Obviously there’s several portals in minecraft so he gets mislead into believing a portal to the nether could be a portal home, and that could lead to a certain amount of angst.
He would eventually find a way home, probably after defeating the ender dragon (it’s corrupted by the kraang)
Some facts about the dragon and the endermen:
The endermen have a kind of cryptid, assumed benevolent vibe to them in this. No one really knows their objectives aside from them trying to save(?) the dragon, which is a kind of god in this world.
The endermen are revered as a kind of holy figure due to their connections to the dragon.
The dragon works like a kind of phoenix but nobody knows this, unless the endermen do but no one knows what the endermen know or don’t know.
The dragons breath is literally the dragon dying kraang style™️ it’s great 👍
The dragon is stuck in a kind of half-death because of the kraang so it’s eternally suffering lol
Also the villagers mistakenly believe Leo to be some kind of enderman equivalent due to his portalling, and worship him accordingly, as seen in this post here
Some other facts:
A lot of the old ones religions were focused heavily on life and death and the cycle of decay (the purity or lack thereof depending on the culture) due to the fact skeletons have always just. Existed.
There is more lore about the specific beliefs of each about the life and death thing but I’ve forgotten them and will have to ask my sibling about it again
Skeletons were able to become passive but only due to religious practices of one of the old-one societies (the desert peoples)
All of them added the dragon somewhere in these religions but how exactly the dragon played a role in them was different depending on the religion and was subject to many debates (+ wars)
High-tech-kinda Machinery and magic exist. The ins and outs of both are unclear (Each society were more or less involved in the practices of either )
The underwater temples (and the underwater peoples) were extremely technologically advanced. Arguably the most advanced of all the old ones. They didn’t believe in the standard respect for the cycles of life and death and the practices surrounding the skeletons but they had their own beliefs and culture separate to the rest of the old ones.
The underwater ppl did body modding with copper and technology. Think underwater steampunk. You get me. Their zombies reflect this.
Mushroom islands are like nuclear wastelands but from mushroom bio weaponry
Mooshrooms are the only things that can survive on those islands anymore
They are like the zombies but better (somehow managed to reach complete symbiosis with the fungus. Unclear how exactly??)
Oh yea the dragon lives on the moon but the moon has an atmosphere so it’s fine
The kraang were all eviscerated by a machine created by the old ones. The only remaining kraang are those who were too far altered to be recognised as fully kraang anymore (creepers) and therefore managed to avoid whatever the old ones machine did, or were protected by plot (the dragon corruption).
The deep dark has lore and Leo is definitely gonna explore it in his search to find a way home.
#asks#uhhh#star anon#thank you again anon!! sorry for not responding until now#potatoe rambles#minecraft Leo au#this isn’t everything#me and my brother also discussed more about the villagers and what their deal is#and their deep connections to illagers#we also rewrote illagers a little#they have their own cities now which is cool#but they carry a lot of cult trauma so there’s that

(First Chapter) || (Next Chapter) || (Last)
The Deadlock side of it. He does some creepy stuff, but some reason changes his life around.
I've lives my life causing nothing but pain and suffering for others...
When Drift was born he already was in the Dead End. He had many years of being there but wasn't anything until he made a friend, Gasket. At first they just traveled together, never saying anything to each just walking the same direction. Sometimes they would boost each to climb fencing or sneaking into abandon buildings. It wasn't until one of them had earned money that they said something to each other.
"Hey let's go get something to eat." That was it, that's how the two of them became friends. They've done everything together and finally started to making money. First it was just them joining in petty theft, then mugging passerby.
It wasn't glamorous, it barely made them enough money to pay for food, but still Drift was proud of the work he's done. Even if he gets knocked out, or caught, or hurts other bots, he still was proud. The thing about life at that time, is once you manage to gain anything above your class, higher ups get upset.
They get upset that they lose what they believe what was owed to them. The Senate gets scared that if one bot succeeds in climbing up others would follow suit, disrupting their status quo. Enforcement are threatened to lose their homes, their memories, their very heads.
Fear is the most powerful tool to get people to drop their morals. That's when he ends up in this position. The cops came for another bot, but Drift matched enough of the description to be targeted. Gasket holds him in his arms, both of them on the ground.
Drift is going to die, he was wrongfully prosecuted and now he was going to lose his life on the mistake of the cops. They wanted an assassin, instead they killed a petty thief.
He wasn't even afraid to die, he honestly lasted way longer than he ever planned for, but when he catches Gasket tears. He knows that he can't let his friend die in a faild revenge tour. He has to reassure him that this death is okay. That he really was only worth the parts in his frame, and he doesn't regret anything.
I've never once felt bad about it, and I don't regret living that way, either.
That's when Dead End's saviour, Ratchet he later learns of. The bot repairs his body to almost perfection, nothing absolutely nothing hurts. He went from entering through the Well to striding through Cybertron with new eyes open.
Of course with a new perspective, and with new resolution, Drift decides maybe Gasket is right. Revenge would be sweet, but justice, justice will much more euphoric. If the government wanted to label him dangerous he will be.
First he changed his name, he goes by Deadlock. Then he learns everything thing he can about being a bounty hunter. Pick ups the fastest way to kill, increased his draw speed and accuracy. This is the point he learns to kill.
I was practically a one-man slaughterhouse. They'll all the same...
Deadlock was good at taking hits. Anyone that he was paid to kill? Anything his client wanted he could do. It never was hard and he never feels bad about it, really they only thing holding him back was Gasket. Not that Deadlock resident that fact either. His friend is alright, and when he tells him not to accept jobs he doesn't disagree with that choice. No, it was his moral compass that stops him from just killing cause he can.
Really, it would have been easier that way. Bots, Politicians and Underground Mob Boss were all the same. Scared to die and frames made of levers and pullies. It soon all became crunching down frames for scrap, even the hunt became the same.
They also shop for the same things. Deadlock gets work from Dead Enders and Senators alike. In all of that only one mission stands out.
It was a take out of some kind of engineer. They were building underground bridges all without primits and well they didn't like it, so he was hired.
Deadlock has permission to go to the otherside. So he went into the home of said bot, waited to kill the mech when he opens the door, and afterward probably get something to drink.
So color him surprised when then walks in his saviour. The same bot with the prefect eyes and divine light. Strange he looks more like a medic than an engineer but also Deadlock hasn't really met either.
He falters, and by letting his target see him he loses his resolve. Charging at him, he pins the mech to the wall. That was a mistake, he can feel his saviour's body writhing against him.
God, how much he wants to frag him. He wants to push him down, and lick him out. All but devour him. Deadlock stops himself, or at least try too. His hands act on thier own accord, touching his plating. Fingers press into joints and exposed cables.
He can take him. If he just kills him like a the others, he can have him with no one noticing. Instead he lets him go with a warning, "you never know what tomorrow will bring."
As Deadlock tells Gasket about this, the other mech simply tells him that he needs to learn to be better.
Do you think it's wrong to kill to your heart's content?
>Yes
No
Heh, whatever. You sound just like a human.
Humans can be more cruel than you think, much more than any demon...
So, Deadlock was good at killing, and he never hated do it either. What had made him change his spark?
Simple, it was the thing that made him in the first place. A misplaced death...
Because Gasket was always around him, guiding him and overall staying with him. He got accused of being him, or more likely someone close to him. So when his friend joined the Decepticons and took him along, there were many bots who took notice.
Those who wanted to either assert themselves to Deadlock and those who friends died because of him. Their anger is the reason they killed him.
Split them up and used Gasket remaining compassion to lure him to his death. They pulled him apart, metal braking at the joints and tearing his processor out. When they finally told Deadlock why they did it, he really didn't care. They were more human, they had more feelings, yet it was them who chosen to kill like that.
It was their sparks that wanted it like this, and yet he was the ruthless monster for taking money to end life with a gun. He was heartless because to him it didn't matter. His was a demon in every ones mind but he wasn't the one who mutilated a body for sport.
But... when I met that girl, the words just slipped out of my mouth:
It goes then, after Gasket'a death something else has died in Deadlock's heart. Was it the part of him the warden that locked away his emotions? Or was it the little part of him that craves vengeance. Whatever it was, with it's disappearance Deadlock can feel again.
At first he felt anger, then it was sadness, was this what it was yo be human. He laughs himself sick, being human hurts, and it's much to heavy. Still, he feels something is missing. Whatever it is he sure it will show up sooner or later.
And then it did.
When the Megatron place a bounty for Ratchet the traitor, he feels his heart be pulled towards him. Then when he sees that they rather have him be dead than capture alive. He understands that this is his chance to keep him.
He doesn't understand why he wants Ratchet, sure he is his saviour, but bots say that Primes are some too. He would never want them they way he wants this mech. It wasn't lust, because this urge wasn't about fragging like the last time.
Was it pity, he sure thinks that bot needs his help. However, he doesn't look at him with sympathetic comments. His not looking down at him, nor is he looking up. No... for the first time he sees him as someone he wants next to him.
Why Ratchet, he couldn't say. Many would say Gasket should be his lover and maybe he was. That mech however, never needed his protection or his love. They never really wanted to stay together, but it was easy, familiar.
So he sets traps to capture him. Of Deadlock can get Ratchet first maybe he can get him to stay with him. As a Decepticon or as a person, it didn't matter, he just wants him close.
He injurs himself to the point of death. Lays himself out to appear to be a casualty of the last battle, and hopes Ratchet's kindness hasn't changed.
It works of course. The moment they catch each other's attention, the mech comes to save him. As he runs his wonderful hands all over his frame, he just flots into peace. This is the feeling his was missing, kindness. It was this act thay straches the urge he's been carrying all of this time.
Then it was over.
Ratchet finishes his task and is ready to scavenge. The bot begins to stand, and ,without thought, he aims the gun on the bot's head. "Sorry mech..."
"Is this what has become of us? Always having to fight?" The dejected look wasn't right. No, that wasn't what he wants at all. "I guess caring for others really is dead."
"Come on Doc, don't think like that. Everyone has kindness in their hearts."
Everyone has kindness in their heart.
Why the hell did I say that?
Ratchet looks at him with disbelief, but follows him up. Deadlock could just keep leading them to Megatron. The base isn't even that far away but...
It would be easy to pretend to let him get away. Just drop the gun for a second and he can run free. So it happens just like that, and Ratchet gets away.
Deadlock is left on the floor, and he finally time to realize that he told the bot that he has feelings. Maybe he really has become human, but being human doesn't explain why he still wants to be close to him...
Maybe I was just curious what it was like to be close to someone... To belong.
He would run into Ratchet again and again. Each time he was more willing to speak to him. To have a conversation and actually listen to what the mech says and not hear the sound of his voice. Of course Deadlock would hide in the outskirts of his vision but still listing. He really only traps him twice more.
Then one time Ratchet really runs into him. The medic was transporting another car and literally crashes into him. It was actually funny, and Deadlock starts laughing.
Ratchet must have never seen him do that before as he stares at him like he grew a second head. Then he asks "Who are you?", and that causes him to pause. Could being happy change his appearance so much?
He should tell him, but adimting his name could send him running. So Deadlock with holds him name and just answers, "I'm just a bot wanting to help."
After all is almost said and done, Ratchet asks again. This time Deadlock gives his name. Like he thought, Ratchet is paralyzed with fear, a bad look for him too, might he add.
He doesn't like that, so he choose to do something. "Hey... I'm sorry for what I've done, but let me make it up to you."
"How?"
"Just let me protect you while you work. I can be your second pair of eyes. Come on." It was only then he feels a sharp stabbing from his side. In his carelessness something must have cut him deep.
"My eyes right? You can't even see for yourself."
"Come on Ratch. At least patch me up before you say no."
Ratchet pauses, it is a long time before he sets aside the car his towing and comes to his aid. "How about instead you help me out with my mission and I help you out now."
"Deal."
If I could my life again, I... I'd want to be the kind of person who everyone wants around.
Then they start to walk together. After every fight, the two of them would look for survivors. Ratchet will patch them up, while he looks for supplies and any remaining threats.
Somewhere along their travels he gains the confidence to actually speak to him. They just talk about whatever is in there mind. Wither it be about their past lives or current, anything was on the table.
It was easy for more emotional topics to come to the surface. Things like his friendships, his crimes, even his obsession with Ratchet. All of that Deadlock tells him and his partner encourage to get to the root of the issue.
Damn it. What the hell am I saying? Why am I getting all emotional...?
"It's not bad to have feelings, you know." Ratchet then talks to him about his betrayals, how the system had wrong him too. One night he even adimts to him that he wants to be more than friends.
Whatever that is Deadlock realise he wants it too. Then they hold hands and a warmth has entered his spark. Yeah... maybe it isn't so bad.
Would you be able to guide my soul from here?
Yes
>No
Yeah... guess not. Forget what I just said, huh?
Ratchet touches his hand again. "I can't make you do anything. If you want to change, you have to do that on your own." They lean closer to each other, bodies practically melted together. "But I can see the change already. The others also see it too. You're doing a good job, just push a little bit more and soon you'll be the kind of bot you want to."
The strange part about this memory is when the rest of their mashup of stray mechs interrupt. They just all clap and honk their horns, congratulating them as if they got married.
I guess it's time to say bye to this place.
Time pass and their traveling party is getting to large to keep traveling. There are also some mech who can't keep up and it was hazardous that they continue to brake their bodies. Ratchet would try to convince them to stay in one spot , but all of the mechs want to say with them.
Deadlock understood, not only was they a chance their wounds come underdone, but they want to stay with Ratchet. If not to protect him but lighten his work. He understood that, afterall he wants that as well.
"Ratchet..." the medic looks back at him. "I'm going to part ways for a bit." He moves to wrap their hands together. "I want to find our group a base. We need a spot for the weaker ones to rest."
"Okay. We'll stay put." That's all they said to each. Part of Deadlock wants to kiss him, to reassure him physically that he will return. However they aren't that close.
So he leaves, spends a few weeks away from the group. Searching low and below deck to see if there was any space for the crew. There were alot of places that almost work out, but it they be too small or have no electricity. So when found a body shop with a backup generator he brings the group.
The part of my soul that I was missing...
When he reunites with Ratchet and the others, he can feel a joy in is spark. Seeing relief from the hurt and peace as the power down to rest, Deadlock finally did something good.
So when it got full, and the walls were forced to come down to try to make space for more bots. Deadlock knew he has to find more room. It was hard to pull away from Ratchet, but he has more mechs protecting him than the prime himself.
So he left. Without another word he takes off. Searching for a better place, trying to make things alright with the bots he takes care of. Strange to think, that not that long ago he was a wondering killer without remorse.
He still feels that way now. However, when he thinks about the smile he gets form their refugees. The graduated he gained from Ratchet. Being away from them has made his heart heavy.
The me I really wanted to become...
The memories of bots forgiving him, of thanking him. He realized it wasn't so bad, better yet it feels good.
It's waiting with other demons for a new life.
Something in the universe changes, it gives him fortune and he finds an empty theater. In a building three streets away he finds a good amount of supplies from an abandoned outpost.
He can finally reunite with the party...

Games Finished in 2022
I'm going to put most of this under a read more, basically I'm going to write quick description of literally everything I played this year (including a bit from December 2021) all in one post. I'll make a separate one for demos I played as well as anticipated games coming in the next couple years. This is generally in order of completion, though a few entries may be slightly scrambled in the midpoint as I added some retroactively during periods where I forgot to update or played multiple games in the same time frame. Not everything I played was from 2021/2022, there's plenty of stuff I just finally got around to this year.
Daemon X Machina (2019): Weird Armored Core-ish mech game, I kind of hated the story and characters, totally lacked depth in ways that would have been far more interesting with more competent writers given the fairly simple premise. Solid, though mech on mech combat was a bit of a slog sometimes especially by the end game where it just felt tedious. The final boss is horrendous and soured my overall opinion of the game. I did not bother to 100% this game, far too tedious achievements.
Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knight (2021): Fairly fun metroidvania, the bosses are great. It definitely draws a lot of inspiration from Momodora and such. Exploration is a little slow given the scale of the world, and it's far more combat oriented > puzzles. Still, the boss rush got a good amount of my time. I 100%ed this game.
Slay the Spire (2019): I've been playing this game since 2019 and 100%ed it last year, but I finally managed to beat an Ascension 20 run with every character this year, so I'm including it on this list. idk what to say about this game other than its probably one of my all time faves.
Inscryption: Kaycee's Mod (2022): The base game is fantastic, and honestly was my Game of the Year for 2021. This mod is more of the base game, though elaborating further would spoil the main; I 100%ed this mode, it's quite good, and compliments the base game nicely.
Death's Door (2021): A nice little game with less substance than I'd have liked, combat is fairly simple and puzzles also leave a bit to be desired. Its aesthetic design is very good though. I liked it enough to 100% it, though I had quite a few issues with it, definitely lacked a bit of substance. Minimal in some not-always-great ways.
Binary Domain (2012): What a ride. Janky arcade cover shooter action with a bizarre and charming cast of characters and story. I liked it a lot.
West of Dead (2019): A very mediocre game, honestly, but something about it was exceptionally gripping to me despite its jank. It has a really nice combat flow room-to-room that takes some getting used to, but has a lot of superfluous mechanics that lack a lot of depth and variety. I'm hoping they succeed with the Hellboy game they're working on.
Cave Crawler (2022): A fun little free to play platformer that takes about half an hour to finish at most. Not too special all things considered, but neat!
Gloom (2017): A weird indie side scrolling action roguelike clearly inspired by Bloodborne with a bit of visual inspiration from Limbo. Very RNG dependent for some of its tight time based achievements and such, overall quite janky, but it held my attention for a solid week or two.
Elden Ring (2022): What can I say, it's the Game of the Year, by many people's standards. It had me mesmerized by its world and scale so many times I could hardly believe it, it's sort a game you could only dream of, made real. I do have a few small complaints regarding its overuse of some assets in ways that its scale is a bit of a negative factor in retrospect (also just a handful of bosses have some design I dislike; it's a bit loose in ways something like Sekiro isn't, for example, which still remains my fave combat From has ever designed) but all considered, it's still exceptional. No game is perfect, but this was damn near close.
Neon White (2022): Honestly, this may be tied with Elden Ring for Game of the Year for me. I'm a defender of its cringe, which, all things considered, is a small portion of that game. The gameplay itself is something I never knew I wanted; single player arena shooter time trial speedrunning. It's like the Trackmania of FPS games, and good lord it is something special. I 100%ed this game and got every red ace medal.
Dicey Dungeons: Reunion DLC (free, 2022): An absolutely exceptional send off to an already exceptional game, the music for these episodes absolutely slapped, and the remixed mechanics for each character are maybe my favorite in the entire game, really the ultimate example of how to give a game a proper last hurrah.
Spelunky 2 (2020): I've been playing this game since 2020, but I just wanted to note here that I finally 100%ed this game, excluding having completed the Cosmic Ocean (of which there is no achievement for). Anyway, Derek Yu is a genius and that can never be stated enough, this game sincerely is a masterpiece.
Into the Breach: Advanced Edition DLC (free, 2022): A game I had already completed the year prior got an extremely good and well rounded patch with new enemies, mech squads, etc. I went in to 100% the new achievements as well as get a Hard Mode 4 Island clear with every squad for the hell of it. Also one of my favorite games of all time, I can't say much else about it.
Cult of the Lamb (2022): An incredibly addicting colony sim with roguelite-inspired elements, the rogue aspects left a lot to be desired to be quite honest, but the gameplay loop surrounding the cult carried it. If it weren't for that I'd have been disappointed honestly. The best analogy I can think of is ordering from a restaurant, getting a completely different order, but eating and enjoying it anyway. Not what I expected, but still enjoyable.
skorpulac (2017): a cool short retro inspired platformer by the guy who does Spelunky's music, a very interesting atmosphere with a fun little twist at the end, I loved it.
Super Hexagon (2012): A game I played back in 2012, but finally decided to get the 60 second achievement on the final mode. Peak "flow state" video game.
Carrion (2020): A neat and relatively short metroidvania-ish monster game. It's fairly linear despite its seemingly open ended nature of the hub, I enjoyed it but was never really totally enthralled. A very solid "good!" - the best compliment I can give it to its aesthetics and its very good design and guiding the player on where to go with environmental design while hiding its general linearity. Never in your face while guiding you on your way, devs could learn a thing or two from this game about how to lead players in the right direction without explicitly telling you in text.
Hand of Fate (2015): Truly the only game I hated this year, and I could tell it wasn't for me in just half an hour. I expected card game, I got mediocre action game hidden underneath a ""card game"" veneer. Simply not for me; it felt very dated, despite having a neat presentation.
Environmental Station Alhpa (2015): From the Baba is You and Noita developer, I basically took on this game as "homework" before diving into Noita, and I was not disappointed. Maybe one of the best Super Metroid inspired games that truly understood what made it good, and honestly, probably surpassed it, and that's not even a hot take. This game has absolutely absurd depth, underneath the skin of a fairly normal metroidvania is a monolithic highly esoteric cryptographic puzzle that can add on at least triple the time to complete, and the platforming/boss challenges do not mess around either. Comprehensive and deep, Arvi Teikari is, much like Derek Yu, basically a god damn genius of this craft.
Noita (2019): I'm not quite done with this game, but I'll add it here, since I've given it a long enough rest - I've only scratched the surface of what there is to do in this game, which might be saying too much. This game is loved by masochists and hated by people with little patience and/or imagination, I think your average person would consider it a wacky little game that is fascinating and frustrating in equal measure. For weirdos though, everything horrible about this game is good, actually, and everything good is sincerely genius. I fall in that camp.
Bananner Nababber (2022): Just an absolutely unhinged and beautifully ugly retro inspired platformer boss rush. It's free. If hitting your head against a wall to fight 6 3 phase bosses on par with some of the hardest NES/SNES hellspawns sounds fun, this is for you to waste an afternoon to.
Wow! This got so long I had to add a break!
Dead Cells (2018): This game just doesn't stop getting content, and I'm far from finished with it, but I have to add it to this list simply because I did much more this year after putting it down for a while. It's got ANOTHER expansion/crossover with Castlevania coming next year which is wild. Anyway, I like this game a lot even if it ends up being a bit of a visual clusterfuck at times and is a little oddly slippery with some progression systems I don't like as much as other games, but it's... cool. It's good. Not my favorite game or anything, but I like it enough to keep coming back a couple times a year for a few weeks at a time.
Spelunky HD (2008): Yep, I'm adding this one to the list, I decided to go back to this version to 100% it, though I still have a couple achievements to get, so expect this game to come up again in 2023 as I get around to that (or not, I dunno). Everything I said about Spelunky 2 applies here, except like, a decade earlier, slightly less refined but no less genius.
Tumbleseed (2017): Someone made Ice Cold Beer a video game except about a seed climbing a mountain, and it's good. It's frustrating, but it's good, and it feels good to get good. I still need to finish up a couple achievements that I got so close to finishing, but then life got in the way. I will return! Underrated as hell, though admittedly obviously niche and not very appealing to normal folks.
Gunfire Reborn (2020): I played a lot of this last year, but I also played more of it this year. It's fun, but more fun with others. That said, 80% of my time in it is solo to wrap up achievements, of which I'm fairly deep in on, but still have plenty to go. I have not paid for the DLC. Anyway, I like it, the guns feel good. It's like, if Borderlands were a short 1 hour run roguelike and instead of cringe dialogue it's just funny animal people who don't say anything except "hyaah" and such.
Rogue Legacy 2 (2022): It's more Rogue Legacy, but unlike Nioh being for better and worse, it's all for the better. Vastly improved visuals, movement mechanics, enemy variety, progression, etc. While I ultimately dislike the not-very-rogue persistent upgrades, it is what it is, and they make it work. The challenges are hellish, and I still have some to wrap up, I'd like to 100% this game next year.
Devil Daggers (2016): I have not done everything I wanted to do in this game quite yet, but I'll add it to this list regardless. I'll say it how I summarized it on a Tweet; this game feels like a creepypasta about a haunted arcade game that takes over your brain and forces you to keep playing as it gets weirder and more grotesque as it goes along, except it actually exists. Horrific Overstimulation. I still need to get around to Hyper Demon, I'll see that one in 2023, which just seems like this game on crack (I hate to have written that, but it's true).
Monolith (2017): What an absolutely underrated gem of a game, it's a more shmup-y Isaac. I love it. I wish I could say more, it's just cool as hell. Sometimes that's all that needs to be said.
Vampire Survivors (2022): I don't know how to describe how I feel about this game. It's amazing, but it sucks. I don't even feel bad being low key a hater; it lacks a lot of sincere depth, it's repetitive and the challenge absolutely melts away once you're given access to meta tools, but I can't deny that it's addicting as all hell and charming in almost every other regard. It does a handful of cool things here and there, and is almost taking over the world. I refuse to call things "overrated" on principle, but this is damn near close. The devs are good people and they deserve every bit of praise they get, but man did this game start to wear down on me in my attempt to 100% it.
Floppy Knights (2022): As of writing this, there's still one more piece of promised final DLC, so expect to see this on my 2023 list as well once I complete that. This game is good! As with quite a few others on this list, I wrote a lengthy Steam review about it. It's a really good puzzle tactics game! Emphasis on puzzle - this will leave a lot to be desired for RPG tactics fans, which initially disappointed me, but grew on me as I started to understand it as an open-ended puzzle game. The challenge modes (with set decks you're forced to play with) really nailed this aspect and were honestly more fun and rewarding to complete than the base game which ultimately ended up a bit cheesable by the end (albeit the way its progression works, was always balanced, so I have to give it credit for that) Anyway, soft recommend for PUZZLE fans who happen to also like turn based tactics. I would tell RPG tactics fans to give it a look too, but to expect a generally slower paced and more methodical game style.
Nioh 2 (2020): It's more Nioh! For better and worse. What an absolute nightmare of a grind with totally superfluous loot treadmill mechanics that it absolutely does not need, needlessly complicated marginal stat gains across weapon and character skill trees, armor, weapons, and trinkets, etc. etc. But at the end of the day, the core mechanics surrounding its combat are absolutely exceptional, the boss fights are some of the most fun in any action game of this style I've fought, and that's even in competition with the Souls games that inspired it. It's SO fun, here's hoping Wo Long is at least a little less grind-y than this.
Umarangi Generation (2020): Retroactively one of my top 5 2020 games probably, it's got a sincere understanding of what makes the PS1 era visuals and level design that inspired it good. Mildly janky in a few areas that don't affect the overall experience, this is one of those games I'd recommend to any visual artist honestly. The photo editing is really well implemented. If I ever get around to the DLC, I'll include it in my 2023 list.
Higurashi When They Cry Chapter 1 (2006/2015): Felt the need to get around to some Ryukishi07 work in light of the announcement of Silent Hill f. Gripping and chilling, honestly, immaculate pacing and sense of tension. Admittedly required putting on some blinders to its grosser elements (mostly in the, y'know, teenage boy protag surrounded by girls premise and the weird writing that often leaves me wishing to NOT be in the protag's head) but aside from that it's still really good. You just have to be an anime trope immune person to enjoy this sort of stuff. I'll give a full opinion on the entire story as I complete it in 2023.
Mortal Shell (2020): A very souls inspired short game that was thoroughly enjoyable, save a few oddities with its character progression and are designs. There were a few stand out positives, and just a couple glaring negatives, but overall I like it a lot. I still have the expanded roguelike "Virtuous Cycle" mode to sink my teeth into, so I'll update my thoughts in 2023 on that.
Good lord, I wish there was more I could say about each game (in some cases there was, in which case I put up a likely private Steam review for, sorry)
