El chucao (Scelorchilus rubecula), un ave que requiere fragmentos de bosque conectados de más de 100 hectáreas para la supervivencia de una población mínima.

Un dato adicional y curioso que suma una capa de asombro a la Reserva es el descubrimiento de la presencia del zorro de Darwin, a través de monitoreo con cámaras trampa en 2012–2013.

Anteriormente, se creía que este esquivo animal solo existía en dos áreas desconectadas: Chiloé y Nahuelbuta.

Este hallazgo no solo amplía nuestra comprensión de la fauna chilena, sino que también subraya la importancia crítica de la Reserva Costera Valdiviana como santuario de la biodiversidad.

Hogar de algunos de los árboles más antiguos y de las especies más singulares de la Tierra, esta franja de tierra es una de las zonas de conservación más fascinantes del hemisferio sur.

A small number of the migrant caravan has been going to get fed near Revolution Avenue in downtown Tijuana by the organization Enclave Caracol, an anarchist group that supports migrant and LGBTTTIQ rights. According to some of the migrants I spoke to there are roughly 30-50 of them who are being helped by trained lawyers who know the ins and outs of the asylum process in the United States. 1. Alter do Chão, Brasil

Ubicado en el estado de Goais, este parque ofrece unos paisajes naturales asombrosos como el “Vale da Lua” formado por la erosión de las rocas esculpiendo por las aguas del río Saõ Miguel creando así un paisaje que parece lunar –de ahí su nombre-. Puedes hacer una ruta de senderismo por la zona que se extiende un poco más de 1 kilómetro pero que te dejará con los ojos y la boca abierta. También puedes conocer las “Cachoeiras Loquinhas”, que son unos saltos de agua y unas pozas naturales en las que te puedes bañar! En el parque también hay cascadas, aguas termales y zonas boscosas. ¡La naturaleza casi solo para ti!

3. Ouro Preto, Brasil

Ouro preto es una ciudad histórica en el estado de Minas Gerais cuyo nombre significa “oro negro” porque en su momento fue un próspero pueblo minero. Hoy, sus calles te invitan a pasear para disfrutar de la arquitectura barroca, de sus 11 iglesias y 12 capillas y museos. Esta ciudad fue la primera en Brasil en ser catalogada como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. Ah! Y si estás por aquí no dejes de visitar el cercano Parque Natural Municipal das Andorinhas que ¡es una verdadera maravilla!

4. Lago Atitlán, Guatemala

A este lago de origen volcánico le rodean otros tres volcanes y colinas cubiertas por tupidos bosques que le confieren un marco natural espectacular. Es un destino turístico de Latinoamérica perfecto para hacer senderismo, pero también para conocer la cultura maya porque alrededor del lago hay 12 pueblitos de diferentes etnias como la Kaqchikel o Tz’utujily, y cada una posee sus tradiciones y costumbres propias que la convierten en una zona ideal para ahondar en sus raíces. El lago se encuentra a poco más de 100km de la capital del país y mi recomendación es que te alojes en el pueblo San Marcos la Laguna y allí hagas base para recorrer el resto de la zona. Un destino turístico lleno de naturaleza y pueblear por horas.

5. Semuc Champey, Guatemala

Ya que estamos hablando de Guatemala y de la tierra maya, te recomendamos este otro sitio al que pocos turistas se acercan que parece una postal fuera de este mundo. Se trata de un pequeño cañón en el río Cahabón, más conocido en la zona como “Cañón de las piscinas turquesas” porque allí se encuentran pozas naturales de entre 1 a 3 metros de profundidad con agua cristalina en medio de un tupido bosque tropical ¡en las que te puedes dar un refrescante baño! Este enclave está en el departamento de Alta Verapaz, a unos 12km al sur de Lanquín y fue declarado Monumento Natural en 1999. Te prometemos que será uno de los mejores viajes de tu vida.

6. El Caracol, Uruguay

En el departamento de Rocha se encuentra este balneario con bonitas playas y un entorno natural casi virgen donde predominan los bosques y montes… ¡además de playas desiertas! Aunque conserva este toque de autenticidad, la mano del hombre ya está empezando a ver el potencial de la zona y ya hay una humilde infraestructura y algo de turismo –pero nada comparado con otras playas cercanas como La Paloma o José Ignacio-. Es el lugar ideal para darse un chapuzón en paz o una caminata por su larga playa.

7. Puente del Inca, Argentina  

Uno de los mejores destinos turísticos de Latinoamérica y, obviamente, de Argentina está en la Cordillera de los Andes –a unos 2700 msnm- y se encuentra la localidad de Puente del Inca que debe su nombre a una formación rocosa que forma un puente natural sobre el río Las Cuevas y que es una maravilla natural. El puente tiene unos 48 metros de largo y está suspendido a casi 30 metros sobre el río y bien vale la pena hacer los 180km que lo separan de la ciudad de Mendoza para admirarlo –así como la capilla y el hotel abandonado que hay al lado-. Como curiosidad, este puente era utilizado por los incas, huarpes y otros pueblos antes de la llegada de los colonos españoles como paso obligado hacia el Pacífico.

8. Puerto Octay, Chile

En el imponente Lago Llanquihue, a 50km de la ciudad de Osorno, se ubica esta comuna con orígenes que se remontan a la época prehispánica aunque la ciudad actual sigue los planos y arquitectura de la colonización alemana en 1852. Esta zona posee un gran valor histórico y cultural, ¡además de una belleza natural única! Allí podrás realizar todo tipo de actividades al aire libre como trekking, canoa, esquí acuático, mountainbike, rafting, surf, velerismo y mucho más. Las ruinas de Yaxchilán, México

En lo que hoy es el estado de Chiapas, en la orilla del Río Usumacinta, se encuentran las ruinas de esta antigua ciudad maya que data del año 350 d.C., pero alcanzó su periodo de esplendor entre los años 550 y 900 (periodo clásico tardío). Estas ruinas quizá no sean tan asombrosas como las de Chichen Itzá, pero su entorno natural las hacen únicas: están metidas dentro de la tupida jungla y recorrerlas se vuelve una aventura muy auténtica. The Global Struggle        Against Policing: From Seattle to Palestine        (Wednesday, February        27, 2019) 3:30 PM - 5 PM @ University of Washington School of Law        4293 Memorial Way, Seattle, Washington 98195                Event Description:       

This             will be a two-prong event. First, there will be an educational             presentation about US-Israel police partnerships, including             exchange trips that bring together police, ICE, border patrol, and             FBI from the US with soldiers, police, and from Israel. In these             programs, harmful practices are shared to promote and extend             discriminatory surveillance and policing in both countries.

        Following             the presentation, there will be a panel of community-organizers             who will highlight their experiences resisting policing across             different social movements and borders. In linking issues of             militarism, imperialism, border enforcement, racism, colonialism,             and surveillance, MLSA strives to build a conversation that             interconnects communities in their struggle against policing.

        Hosted             by The Minority Law Student Association (MLSA) as a part of UW             Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Week at UW Law.

La Comunidad: LGBT+        Members of the Caravan        (Monday, February 25,        2019) 7 - 9 PM @ Thomson        Hall (THO) 101                Join us to hear Owen Harris and Simon Fox discuss conditions for LGBT+        members of the caravan and the ongoing efforts of these organizations        and activists on both sides of the border. They will present photos and        video testimonials from interviews with LGBT+ caravan members and then        open a Q&A session about LGBT+ members of the Caravan and efforts        on the ground to support them.       

In             the last few months there has been a huge surge in demand for             shelter for migrants and asylum seekers on the border with Mexico,             and in December 2018, Owen Harris and Simon Fox travelled to             Tijuana to support efforts by organizations and activists on the             ground to establish a permanent shelter for LGBT+ migrants and             asylum seekers, including members of "the caravan," to             ensure that the LGBT+ population has a safe and adequate place to             eat, bathe, and rest.

        Many             of those arriving at the border need treatment for chronic             illnesses including HIV, hormone treatments for trans folks,             scabies treatment, safe food and drinking water, first aid and             mental health support. Local activists and organizations including             Enclave Caracol and COCUT are working to connect those arriving at             the border with the resources they need.      

About the speakers:        Owen Harris - co-founder of Safe Place International and currently a        Master's student in the Jackson School of International Studies and the        Evans School of Public Policy and Governance who has previously worked        with LGBT+ refugees and asylum seekers in Mexico, Turkey, Greece,        Lebanon, and Bangladesh.                Simon Fox - a Seattle native and film-maker who studied journalism and        international studies at the UW and has spent the last three years        working to tell the stories of refugees and migration through film.

But Can I Pay My Rent Tho?!:        Surviving as a TQPOC Artist        Feb. 28 (Part 1) & Mar. 7 (Part 2)        Free (Donations Accepted at gaycity.org/donate)                Without art, there can be no movements. Yet, artists are often        unrewarded for being the drivers of change, which has created a culture        of unsustainable practices. In particular, being a Black/Brown artist        who is along the trans and/or queer spectrum means that we are more at risk        of being underpaid and undervalued for our brilliance. This workshop        will make space for trans & queer artists of color to develop        long-term strategies towards a life supported by their creative work.        Participants of these sessions are artists and cultural producers of        all disciplines who are ready to build a career from their practice.        Part 1 (Feb. 28) will focus on evaluating your financial needs and        plans as an artist. Part 2 (Mar. 7) will recharge your marketing needs        and put your plan into action. This workshop will intentionally engage        a framework of dismantling anti-Blackness, white supremacy,        transphobia, and more as we imagine the role of TQPOC artists creating        their own liberation.                FACILITATOR BIO:        J Mase III is a Black/Trans/Queer poet based in Seattle by way of NYC.        A blogger for the Huffington Post, he is the author of “If I Should Die        Under the Knife, Tell My Kidney I was the Fiercest Poet Around” as well        as "And Then I Got Fired: One Transqueer's Reflections on Grief,        Unemployment and Inappropriate Jokes About Death." Refugees             and immigrants are invited to contribute handwritten letters about             their experiences as a method of alleviating burden and promoting             healing. UW visiting artist Trinh Mai will then roll and bind             these letters with string, forming a small scroll enclosing and             concealing the words. These will be displayed as part of an art             exhibit at Seattle's Gould Gallery from April 3 - May 3. 

        UW             Faculty members Linh Nguyen and Jenna Grant will lead the workshop             where you can write your story in a supportive, communal space.             All are welcome to take part in this collaborative project for             empowerment and voice, then view the exhibit. How do generations of people             of color, queer and trans people, and others who have experienced             marginalization carry those stories over generations? Join writers             Jordan Alam and Tessa Zeng for a reading and conversation on             feeling a story in your bones and translating it to the page.             Musician Lex Gavin will also perform.                         ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:             Jordan Alam is a queer Bangladeshi-American writer, performer, and             social change educator based out of Seattle. Her work engages with             moments of rupture and transformation in the lives of people on             the margins. Jordan’s work is heavily engaged in the ? community,             and she is a current Kundiman Pacific Northwest co-chair and             4Culture Artist Grant recipient. Her short stories and articles             have appeared in The Atlantic, CultureStrike Magazine, The Rumpus,             and AAWW’s The Margins; she has spoken at events including the             Aspen Ideas Festival and the Eyes on Bangladesh exhibition. She is             also the founder of the Asian American social justice publication,             Project As [I] Am (http://www.project-as-i-am.com).             Most recently, she has completed a fellowship with Town Hall             Seattle to create collaborative performance pieces about stories             of the body and been editing a draft of her debut novel.                         Lex Gavin is a multidisciplinary artist living in Seattle. They are interested in             magic, neuroscience/somatics/epigenetics, and human systems. When             they are not neglecting their creative pursuits, they work in the             youth development field and play in the kitchen.                         Tessa Zeng is a writer, systems change advocate, and co-creative             maker. She has been published in various poetry anthologies and             journals, and received an Individualized BA from Goddard College             for her work on social misrecognition. With their work, they hope             to create beautiful experiences of interconnection and recognition             that can heal traumas caused by oppressive structures.

A Certain Type of Brilliance is a celebration of femmes’             ability to pull amazing things out of thin air, to create on a             dime, to use our vulnerability and creativity as our greatest             assets in resistance to oppression.

She        makes non-fiction essay comics about art, politics, cultural events,        oddities, and hidden histories in a wiggly, sloppy style for various        publications and websites. She got her start illustrating for $pread        Magazine (R.I.P) and self-publishing a comic about her life called        Blabbermouth. Her work pops up in various anthologies, including the        2018 Ignatz Award-winning book, Comics for Choice, and she's also        published comics in the Guardian, Hyperallergic, the New Yorker, and a        bunch of other shiny places. Her series Checked Out, about almost a        decade spent working at NYC's oldest Library, appears regularly on the        website Spiralbound. When she isn't scuttling all over NYC for work or        elbow-deep in ink, she can be found scanning the funnie pages.                ▼CRISTY ROAD▼        Cristy C. Road is a Cuban-American artist, writer, and musician.        Through visual art, storytelling, and punk rock music, C.Road has        thrived to testify the beauty of the imperfect since she began creating        art in her hometown of Miami, FL. She grew up as a self-taught figure        drawing artist with a penchant for all things that questioned society        and began publishing Green'Zine in 1997-- a fanzine which was        originally devoted to the punk rock group, Green Day. C.Road graduated        from the the Ringling School of Art and Design in 2004 with a BFA in        Illustration. In early 2006, C.Road released her first illustrated        novel, Indestructible (Microcosm Publishing), a 96-page narrative about        high school; and later in 2007, a collection of postcards entitled        Distance Makes The Heart Grow Sick (Microcosm Publishing). In 2008, she        released Bad Habits (Soft Skull Press), an Illustrated story about        healing from an abusive relationship; and lastly in 2013, her most        recent book, Spit and Passion (Feminist Press, 2012), is a coming-out        memoir about Cuban identity, discovering Green Day, and surviving in        the closet. C.Road's current project is The Next World Tarot (2017), a        78-card tarot deck detailing themes of justice, knowledge,        accountability, and reclaimed magic.                ▼AUSTIN HERNANDEZ▼        Austin Hernandez is a Tejano designer and writer living in Brooklyn.        His creative work is strongly influenced by his mom's second-wave        feminist teachings, his family's Mexican-American or Hispanic or        Chicanx or Mexica or "just American" origins, and high school        riot grrrl mix tapes. Through traveling, sharing, and storytelling by        film and spoken word, he focuses on the feeling of estrangement from        society and analyzing seemingly conflicting identities—transman with        strong lesbian roots, a monolingual mestizo with bilingual family, and        a working-class Texan, raised on homemade flour tortillas and fast        food, turned tech anti-bro. He recently left an international corporate        life to become a civic technologist, improving the ways governments        provide services to the public. He sits on the board of directors for        Maven, a nonprofit that empowers LGBTQ+ youth to use technology for        social change.                ▼KATHERINE AGARD▼        Katherine is an interdisciplinary artist and writer from Trinidad and        Tobago. She recently graduated from the MFA program in Writing from UC        - San Diego and now lives in San Francisco. You can find her writing in        Yes Femmes, Anmly, the Black Warrior Review and forthcoming in Feminist        Studies.                ▼BARUCH PORRAS HERNANDEZ▼        Baruch Porras Hernandez is a queer Mexican Immigrant from Toluca,        Mexico. He is a writer, performer, storyteller, playwright and stand-up        comedian, a two-time winner of Literary Death Match, a Lambda Literary        Poetry Fellow, a Lambda Literary Playwriting Fellow, a two-time        Pushcart Prize nominee, and was named a Bay Area Writer to Watch! in        2016 by 7×7 San Francisco Magazine. He is the founder and host of        ¿Donde Esta Mi Gente? Latinx Literary Series, a regular KQED Arts host,        and was the Voice of Shipwreck SF Erotic Fan Fiction Competition and        podcast for four years and hosted the legendary SF Queer Open Mic for 7        years. His poems have been published in several anthologies and        journals, both online and in print. Last summer he had the honor of        being an artist in residence at the Ground Floor Summer Lab with        Berkeley Repertory Theatre. She believes in the        healing power of ritual, performance art, and the power of words. She        is the Curator of Kitchen Sessions, a running show series in        collaboration with Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas, Bellevue        Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, and Theater Off Jackson. She's received        fellowships from Brush Creek Foundation of the Arts, Lambda Literary        Foundation, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and The SF Grotto, and an        individual artist grant from the SF Arts Commission. Today we cross the boarder. But first we had to get some more burritos with a friend of mine who I worked with as an arborist in Asheville who happened to be in town. After this it was time to go meet up with Rob and Katy and head for the boarder. On our way to the boarder we got in touch with Alain who wanted to cross with us. Now there was 6 of us who were going to be figuring out the Tijuana boarder crossing together. This made it feel less daunting of a task. The challenges started early when we had to fit our bikes through the turnstiles. All our single bikes made it through without much difficulty but Rob and Katy’s tandem was a diffierent story. First we tried to ask some security gaurd if they could open a door so the tandem could get around the turnstile, this was met with quisical looks and so in a last ditch effort Pete and Rob held the tandem up on end and were barely able to fit it...but it fit. After we all got our passports stamped we then had to put our bags through the xray machines. This was a bit of a comical undertaking because some of us passed nothing through the machines and some of us had to take only half of our bags off and pass them through. The security officers seemed like there was no specific procedure for folks to pass through the boarder with touring bike. After we were through it all seemed a bit sureal. We were all in Mexico and onto various legs of our respective adventures. We were in a land were people no longer spoke english as a first language and laws were much different. Now it was time to make our way roughly three blocks to Enclave Caracole.

Enclave Caracole is a community space/cafe/soon to be bike collective and our residence for the next two days. After we met Nacho, Ricardo and Chris(who to the best of our understanding ran the place) we were shown to were we could sleep for the next two nights. After that we talked with Nacho and Ricardo who were the ones along with David that moved to Tijuana for the time being to help start the bike collective portion of Enclave Caracole, the purpose of which was hopefully be able to provide a reliable means of transportation to some of the 25,000 pedestrians who cross the boarder each day to go to work in California. After chatting with them for a bit we all decided we needed to find some dinner. As we began walking down the street we were immediately very aware just how much we stood out as tourists from the rest of the local inhabitants. This was made even more apparent when we were constanly being solicited by various people on the street to come eat food or take a free tequilla shot at their establishment. We all immediately agreed that we weren’t going to eat anywhere that someone was trying to get us to eat. We found a spot that we soon realized was a shop that specialized in Mexican seafood when Rob and Katy(both vegitarians) tried to order something with vegitales and were told they could order plane cheese quesadillas. After we all had gotten our food needs met we walked back to EC(Enclave Caracole). We ordered some beers from the cafe and sat around drinking them in the cafe’s dining space. after that Chris asked us if we would want to walk with him to get some different beer from a beer store. On the walk I learned that Chris who was a resident of Seattle had moved to Tejuana 7 years ago to try and help people obtain there US citizenship. This passion for the people of Mexico had kept him their and EC was the tool and space he had created to help make citizenship a reality for many and to help connect people with lawyers and others who can help them and their cause. On the walk we also stopped by a street vendor selling tacos. After that we got to the beer store bought beer and headed back to EC. After we drank our beers we went upstairs to settle in for restful night sleep which wasn’t exactly what we got. we all quickly realized that Tejuana is an all night city and one of the bars near by had a live band that played late into the evening.

-En cuanto a sus calas, también te alegrarás de contar con tu coche para encontrar las más recónditas como, por ejemplo, Cala Llamp, Cala Estellencs o cala Tuent, en todas ellas podrás practicar buceo o snorkel y quedarte impresionado con su fondo marino y sus aguas cristalinas.

-También podrás ir a visitar Las Cuevas del Drach, no tendrás problema en llegar hasta allí con tu coche y una vez las veas no te dejarán indiferente, ya que son unas cuevas naturales que ocupan 1700 metros aproximadamente, los cuales están repletos de estalagmitas y estalactitas de dimensiones tan grandes que te sorprenderán.

Y llegó la hora de hablar de comer, así que coge tu coche y dirígete a distintos restaurantes donde te ofrezcan alguna de estas delicias:

-No puedes dejar de pedir el famoso frito mallorquín, el tumbet, su arroz Brut, sus tradicionales caracoles, la coca de Trampó, la lechona asada a la mallorquina, su pan con aceite o pa amb oli… ¿Qué dices? ¿No probarías absolutamente todos?

-Y si estás cansado de ir de sitio en sitio y te apetece comer algo en la misma playa y bajo tu sombrilla, no olvides llevar una neverita en tu coche con la bebida que más te gusta y con unos buenos bocatas de la famosa sobrasada mallorquina ¡Te encantará! Además de que no te llevará nada de tiempo prepararlo, disfrutarás de esta pasta típica de Mallorca, ahora bien, un poquito de deporte después no te vendrá mal porque no se trata precisamente de un plato muy ligero.

-En la playa, en tu hotel, en un bar… cualquier sitio es bueno para pedir una de sus archiconocidas ensaimadas, seguro que te gustan tanto que vuelves a tu casa con este codiciado postre. No te olvides de comprarlo en el aerpuerto, ¡Puede ser un magnífico regalo!

Es probable que ahora que te hemos hablado de todos estos lugares por visitar y de todos estos manjares por degustar, asomen a tu mente un montón de imágenes de aguas de diferentes gamas de colores, todas ellas cristalinas; seguro que también puedes sentir el típico olor a playa y, tal vez, hasta estés salivando imagínándote allí, en un restaurante a orillas de una cala mientras sientes la brisa sobre tu cara. ¡No sufras más!
