It takes nearly two weeks of the flu shot to get the antibodies into your system so you are not protected, for example, until the September/October timeframe. It is made from viruses which are nonreactive or have only one gene and thus are incapable of producing a disease. There could be some post administration side effects such as mild pains or feel more tired; these effects are temporary.
