""We are daily wage earners. We came to Delhi from Muzaffarpur in Bihar several decades ago for employment because we did not have enough land to do farming. By working as labourers in Delhi, we were supporting the families."
Amit, a member of Anil Thakur's family, told NewsClick that the factory had no regard for safety.
"Even gloves and masks were not given to them while working in the factory, which caused eye and respiratory problems to the workers.""
""Some permanent solution should be given to the family like the Delhi government gives Rs 1 crore along with a job on the death of an officer. Why doesn't it give the same amount to the labourers? Is there no value to the life of a labourer?""

India overtakes China to become world’s most populous country (Hannah Ellis-Petersen, The Guardian, April 24 2023)
“It is also the first time since 1950, when the UN first began keeping global population records, that China has been knocked off the top spot.
China’s population decline follows decades of strict laws to bring the country’s booming birthrate under control, including the introduction of a one-child policy in the 1980s.
This included fines for having extra children, forced abortions and sterilisations.
While initially highly effective in controlling the population, these policies became a victim of their own success, and the country is now grappling with an ageing population in steep decline, which could have severe economic implications.
Part of the problem is that because of a traditional preference for boys, the one-child policy led to a massive gender imbalance.
Men now outnumber women by about 32 million. “How can the country now shore up birth rates, with millions of missing women?” asks Mei Fong, the author of One Child, a book about the impact of the policy.
Recent policies introduced in China trying to incentivise women to have more children have done little to stimulate population growth.
Women still have only 1.2 children and the population is expected to fall by almost 10% in the next two decades.
According to projections, the size of the Chinese population could drop below 1 billion before the end of the century.
In India, the population has grown by more than a billion since 1950. Though growth has now slowed, the number of people in the country is still expected to continue to rise for the next few decades, hitting its peak of 1.7 billion by 2064. (…)
India’s demography is far from uniform across the country.
One third of predicted population growth over the next decade will come from just two states, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, in the north of the country, which are some of India’s poorest and most agricultural states.
Uttar Pradesh alone already has a population of about 235 million, bigger than Nigeria or Brazil.
Meanwhile states in India’s south, which is more prosperous and has far higher rates of literacy, population rates have already stabilised and have begun to fall.
In the next decade, states in the southern states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu are likely to start grappling with an ageing population, and by 2025, one in five people in Kerala will be over 60.
The divide in population growth between India’s north and south could also have political implications.
After 2026, India’s electoral lines are due to be revised and redrawn based on census data, in particular relating to the number of people in constituencies.
Many politicians in southern states have expressed concern that their successes in bringing down population numbers, through education programmes, family planning and high literacy, could result in a reduction in their political representation in parliament, and a further political domination of the northern states that continue to have a population boom.
Currently the average age in India is just 29, and the country will continue to have a largely youthful population for the next two decades.
A similar “demographic dividend” proved highly useful in China, leading to an economic boom, particularly in manufacturing.
While India has one of the world’s fastest-growing economies in the world, and recently overtook the UK as the fifth-largest, experts have stressed that the country needs more investment in education and employment to seize the opportunity presented by a young population over the next few decades.
India continues to struggle with high youth unemployment and less than 50% of working-age Indians are in the workforce.
The figure for women is even lower, with just 20% of women participating in the formal labour market, a figure that is decreasing as India develops.”

One will have to wait for the release of the socio-economic details of each caste to make more meaningful interpretations of extant hegemonies and exclusion in Bihar. The numbers of various castes/communities are helpful but insufficient. The numerical strength of various jatis/biradaris must be read in the light of their control of material and cultural power — land, capital, employment, incomes, access to education, health, credit, and so on. This data will be instrumental in deciding categorical revisions and inclusion/exclusion in affirmative action (reservations) and redistributive policies on a more scientific basis. The lack of precise caste data has been contentious, particularly in the sub-categorisation debate, fueling unwarranted divisive passions. Caste, South Asia's storehouse of social power, often constitutes the crucial site where "class" is lived out and contested. Certain sections of the landed privileged communities may have slid down the class ladder due to the deep-seated agrarian crisis and the uneven effects of the penetration of market logic in the countryside. Does the rupture between the memory of historical privilege and recent decline make them especially prone to hurt sentiments and violence? The feature of caste endogamy, particularly the transfer of wealth through inheritance to successive generations, may be a binding site for status reproduction and explains the violence meted out to sexual transgressions outside castes/communities. What is the state of inter-caste/community marriages? Many questions can be reasonably addressed only when the socio-economic data is released.

Asif Ahmad: A Young Entrepreneur from Bihar
Bihar, the state I proudly call home, has long faced significant challenges in key areas such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Growing up in Bihar, I personally witnessed the struggles of talented individuals forced to leave their home state in search of better opportunities. This experience became the driving force behind my mission to transform Bihar into a thriving hub where every individual—no matter their background—can achieve their full potential without having to migrate for a better life. Over the years, I have focused on addressing some of Bihar’s most pressing issues: limited access to quality education, a shortage of healthcare services, and the need for sustainable infrastructure.
Education: A Cornerstone for Empowerment
Education has always been at the heart of my vision for Bihar. As a young person here, I saw the immense potential in our youth but recognized the stark gap in access to quality education. Many young people had to leave Bihar to pursue their academic goals, and this migration was a barrier to both personal growth and regional development. After returning to India from my studies abroad, I focused on strengthening local institutions like Madhubani Medical College and the Madhubani Institute of Nursing & Paramedical Sciences. These institutions provide world-class education in Bihar, offering opportunities for local youth to thrive in their home state. By training students locally, particularly in healthcare, we aim to ensure that Bihar retains its brightest minds and creates a sustainable environment for them to contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth.
Healthcare: Making Healthcare Accessible and Affordable
Access to quality healthcare has been another critical issue I’ve worked to address. Growing up in rural Bihar, I saw firsthand how families struggled to access basic medical services. The nearest healthcare facilities were often far away, and the cost of treatment was prohibitive for many. The shortage of trained medical professionals was also a major barrier to care. In 2019, I became deeply involved with Madhubani Medical College, which offers an MBBS program and is attached to a 600-bed hospital providing affordable treatment. With consultation fees as low as Rs 30 and room charges just Rs 150 per day, the hospital aims to make quality healthcare accessible to everyone. But this initiative is about more than just addressing immediate needs; it’s about building a self-sustaining healthcare infrastructure that can serve future generations of Biharis.
Infrastructure: Building the Foundation for Growth
For Bihar to truly prosper, modernization of its infrastructure is essential. This includes building reliable roads, improving transportation networks, and upgrading utilities. As part of Astaus India Pvt Ltd, the company I co-founded, we are working on various infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, boosting the local economy, and enhancing the quality of life for Bihar’s residents. From eco-friendly construction to sustainable urban planning, we are committed to creating modern infrastructure that supports long-term economic growth and ensures Bihar can compete with more developed regions.
Creating an Ecosystem of Opportunity
Beyond education, healthcare, and infrastructure, my broader vision for Bihar is to foster an environment of opportunity, particularly for its youth. By focusing on entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic empowerment, I want Bihar to become a state where young people don’t feel the need to leave for better opportunities. Supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses is key to creating a thriving, self-sustaining economy. This will encourage innovation, generate employment, and help the state build an ecosystem that empowers its citizens.
A Broader Mission: Empowering India
While Bihar will always be at the center of my efforts, I also recognize that the challenges of education and healthcare are not unique to this state. That’s why I am also working on initiatives outside Bihar, such as the establishment of Kashmir Medical College, the first private medical college in the region. By addressing disparities in education and healthcare across India, my broader mission is to create an equitable system that benefits all citizens, regardless of where they live.
Looking Ahead: A Brighter Future for Bihar
Looking to the future, I envision a Bihar that thrives—a state where every individual has the opportunity to succeed, where youth can find fulfilling careers at home, and where accessible healthcare and modern infrastructure support the overall well-being of the population. I believe that with the right investments in sustainable development, a focus on innovation, and collaboration across all sectors, Bihar can become a leader in economic and social progress in India. The journey will take time, but with each step, we are laying the foundation for a more prosperous and equitable future. Bihar’s transformation is not just a dream; it is a vision I am committed to making a reality, one initiative at a time.

Women empowerment or women harassment across India?
I am asking to Humanrights and women rights organisations….?
More than 46 millions girls and women still missing.
Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights, often involving exploitation through forced labor, sexual slavery, conversion, rape , and other forms of coercion.
It’s a global issue that affects millions of people, particularly women and children. Here’s a general overview and some key points about human trafficking, medical Jihad, suicide Jihad, accidental Jihad, rape and murder.
Human trafficking Jihad is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by means of threat, force, or other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, or deception, for the purpose of exploitation. This exploitation can include forced labor, sexual exploitation, or other forms of modern-day slavery.
According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), there are an estimated 25 million victims of human trafficking worldwide specially in West Bengal, Northeast, Kerala, Kashmir, Delhi, Bihar, UP, Madhyapradesh, Rajsthan and other states.
Trafficking can occur within a country or across international borders, with victims often lured by false promises of employment, education, marriage or a better life.
• Sex Trafficking: Involves forcing individuals, often women and girls, into prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation.
• Labor Trafficking: Includes forced labor in industries such as agriculture, construction, domestic work, and manufacturing. Victims often work in inhumane conditions for little or no pay.
• Child Trafficking: Involves the recruitment, transportation, or exploitation of children for various purposes, including labor, sexual exploitation, or even forced begging.
• Victims and Vulnerabilities: Trafficking victims often come from vulnerable populations, including migrants, refugees, and those living in poverty. Traffickers prey on these vulnerabilities, exploiting victims’ desires to escape difficult circumstances.
Human trafficking is a complex and multi-faceted issue that requires a concerted global effort to address. By staying informed and supporting organizations working to combat trafficking, individuals can contribute to the fight against this pervasive crime across India and at global level.

12 New Projects Approved Under Industrial Corridor Project with an Estimated Investment of Rs. 28,602 Crore
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of 12 new projects in the country’s 6 major Industrial Corridors, under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) with an estimated investment of ₹28,602 crore. The development, monitored by notable current and ex-IAS officers, such as Ramesh Abhishek and Amitabh Kant aims to transform several regions into “Smart Cities” equipped with next-generation infrastructure and boost manufacturing capabilities to enhance global competitiveness.
Understanding the Industrial Corridor Project
The industrial corridor project is India’s most ambitious infrastructure programme that connects different industrial sectors and cities for better connectivity and economy. This project features world-class infrastructure, including high-speed transportation networks (roads and railways), ports, airports, and logistic parks. In India, 11 national corridors are in the process of development including the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC), East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC), Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), and Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC). The advancement of these industrial area corridors will help achieve $2 trillion in exports by 2030.
Under the new approval of 12 projects, the new industrial areas will be located in:
Khurpia, Uttarakhand
Rajpura-Patiala, Punjab
Dighi, Maharashtra
Palakkad, Kerala
Agra and Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh
Gaya, Bihar
Zaheerabad, Telangana
Orvakal and Kopparthy, Andhra Pradesh
Jodhpur-Pali, Rajasthan
Significance of Industrial Corridor
Former IAS officer, Ramesh Abhishek who is known for his remarkable contribution to the Industrial Corridor project as a chairperson of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) Limited, now known as the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) said in the Annual report 2017 -18;
“The significance of connectivity cannot be undermined in any project which is aimed at sustainable and inclusive development”
Ramesh Abhishek, Former IAS officer
This statement from the ex-IAS officer, emphasizes the critical importance of industrial corridor projects is to
Increase Connectivity: Retired IAS officer’s assertion highlightsIndustrial corridors aim to enhance transportation and logistics networks, facilitating smoother movement of goods and services. This improved connectivity is essential for the efficiency and effectiveness of industrial operations.
Promote Sustainable Growth: Ramesh Abhishek, as an ex-chairman of the Industrial Corridor project also highlights that, the Industrial Corridor project fosters environmentally sustainable economic development.
Benefits Reach Each Section of Society: The statement from the ex-IAS officer emphasizes the connectivity offered by Industrial corridors ensure that the economic advantages of industrial development are accessible to all segments of society, reducing regional disparities and promoting equitable growth.
Economic Importance of the Industrial Corridor Project
Industrial corridors hold significant economic importance from the perspective of IAS officers focused on policy implementation and regional growth. These corridors are instrumental in driving economic development by fostering investment opportunities, which attract both domestic and foreign capital. This influx of investments not only stimulates industrial activities but also leads to substantial job creation, providing local communities with better employment prospects. Furthermore, industrial corridors promote balanced regional development by addressing disparities between urban and rural areas, ensuring that economic benefits are distributed more equitably across regions. Ex-IAS officers, like Ramesh Abhishek, significantly advocated for this benefit of the Industrial Corridor project. As these corridors develop, they also contribute to improved living standards by enhancing infrastructure and access to essential services, thereby uplifting the quality of life for residents in surrounding areas.
The industrial corridors serve as a vital framework for sustainable economic growth, aligning with national objectives and fostering inclusive development.
Industrial Corridor Project Background
The Industrial Corridor Project was first announced by the government in 2007 and officially incorporated in 2008, with notable developments occurring after 2011. During the initial phase, former IAS Officer Shri Amitabh Kant, appointed for the industrial corridor in 2009, played a key role in the project. His leadership was instrumental in the launch of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) in collaboration with Japan and the inauguration of the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
From 2016 to 2019, the industrial corridor project saw significant advancements under ex-IAS Officer Ramesh Abhishek, who took charge of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), later renamed the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) in 2020. Ramesh Abhishek, a retired IAS officer also serving as Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), oversaw the launch of several key industrial corridor projects. These included the Bengaluru-Mumbai Economic Corridor (BMEC) with UK support, the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECEC) starting with the Vizag-Chennai Corridor, and the Amritsar-Kolkata Corridor, which utilized the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. His tenure marked significant growth and development in the industrial corridors. He focused on completion of the infrastructure projects within these industrial areas in a time bound manner and allotment of land to industry for setting up manufacturing facilities. As a result, a large number of such projects were completed during his tenure and hundreds of acres of land was allocated to various manufacturing units out of which many started production during his tenure itself.
After the ex-IAS officer,Ramesh Abhishek’s retirement, National Corridors Development Program was led by prominent IAS officers, including Guruprasad Mohapatra, Anurag Jain, and Rajesh Kumar Singh. During this phase, the government approved the development of major corridor projects and now the government of India has announced the approval for 12 new projects under NICDP, envisioned as the golden necklace of the industrial corridor project that creates a significant impact on manufacturing, exports, urbanization, and regional development.
Conclusion
The National Industrial Corridor Development Programme is a major infrastructure initiative in India that has the potential to make the country a global manufacturing hub. The project is building a network of industrial corridors, aiming to improve infrastructure, attract large-scale investments, and foster a thriving industrial environment.
Managed and advocated by several current and retired IAS officers like Ramesh Abhishek, Amitabh Kant, and Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Industrial corridor has generated numerous jobs and is expected to generate many more, promote balanced development across different regions, and enhance living standards.
The recent approval of 12 new projects with an estimated cost of ₹28,602 crore will help the country achieve the outcome of the infrastructure development mission to create high-speed transportation network, ports, modern airports, special economic regions/industrial areas and more.

The Power of Education in Transforming Rural Communities
Education has long been recognized as one of the most powerful tools for social change. In rural communities, where access to opportunities is often limited and systemic barriers are entrenched, education stands out as the key to unlocking potential and breaking the cycle of poverty. I have seen this transformative power firsthand, particularly in Bihar, where education has the ability to uplift not just individuals, but entire communities.
Education as a Transformative Tool
At its core, education has the power to transform lives. For children growing up in rural Bihar, education opens doors to a world of opportunities that would otherwise remain closed. In many areas, the lack of access to quality education limits children to lives of poverty and hardship. However, when children are given the chance to attend school and receive a proper education, it changes the trajectory of their future.
I have seen the impact of this firsthand in my work with institutions like Ameer Hasan Shakoor Ahmad College and the Millat Teachers' Training College. These institutions have helped countless students access higher education and professional training. By enabling young people to learn and grow, we are giving them the tools they need to overcome the challenges that once seemed insurmountable.
The Role of Education in Community Development
Education doesn’t just benefit individuals—it has the power to uplift entire communities. When a person receives an education, they don’t just improve their own life; they become agents of change within their community. Education fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for addressing the challenges that rural communities often face.
In rural Bihar, where agriculture is the backbone of the economy, educated individuals can introduce new farming techniques, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions that improve productivity and food security. Educated women, in particular, are often at the forefront of positive change. They are more likely to invest in the health and education of their children, breaking the generational cycle of poverty and promoting long-term development.
When entire communities are educated, the benefits spread quickly. Improved literacy rates, better healthcare awareness, and higher rates of employment contribute to stronger economies and more resilient societies. By prioritizing education, we are not only addressing the immediate needs of individuals but also building a foundation for long-term, sustainable development.
The Ripple Effect: Educating One Generation to Lift the Next
One of the most powerful aspects of education is its ability to create a ripple effect. When one person is educated, the impact extends far beyond that individual. Educated parents are more likely to send their children to school, providing them with the same opportunities for success. This creates a cycle of progress that can persist for generations.
For example, research has shown that girls who receive an education are more likely to delay marriage, have fewer children, and ensure that their own children are educated. This is particularly important in rural areas, where early marriage and high birth rates are common. Educating one girl can have a profound impact on the well-being of an entire family and community.
This ripple effect is also seen in the workplace. Educated individuals who find employment often go on to inspire others in their community, demonstrating the power of education to improve not just economic status but also social standing. As one person rises, they often bring others with them, creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
In Bihar, where access to education has historically been limited, we are beginning to see the first signs of this ripple effect. Schools, colleges, and training centers are creating opportunities that, in turn, create a more educated and skilled workforce, leading to improved livelihoods for individuals and better outcomes for their communities.
Investing in Education for a Brighter Future
As we look toward the future, it’s clear that education must continue to be a top priority. In rural areas like Bihar, where barriers to education are still high, there is an urgent need for investment in infrastructure, teacher training, and scholarships to ensure that every child has access to quality education.
Through initiatives like the Milli Trust, I’ve dedicated my efforts to ensuring that children from marginalized communities have the resources they need to succeed. We are working to build educational institutions that not only provide academic learning but also equip students with the skills they need to thrive in the modern world.
Moreover, by focusing on practical and vocational education, we can empower young people to gain skills that are directly relevant to their communities. Whether it’s in healthcare, technology, or agriculture, education can provide the tools that individuals need to create change and build a better future.
The transformation of rural communities through education is a long-term investment. It requires not just resources but a commitment to changing mindsets and breaking down the barriers that stand in the way of success. But the rewards of this investment are immense: an educated, skilled, and empowered population that is capable of tackling the challenges of the future with confidence.
Education is the foundation of empowerment. It is a tool that has the potential to break the cycle of poverty, uplift marginalized communities, and create lasting change. In rural Bihar, where the challenges are great but the potential is even greater, education offers hope. By investing in the education of our youth, we are not just changing individual lives—we are transforming communities, creating a ripple effect that can bring about real, sustainable development for generations to come.
As we continue our work through initiatives like Ameer Hasan Shakoor Ahmad College and Millat Teachers' Training College, I remain deeply committed to ensuring that every child in rural Bihar has access to the education they deserve. With education as our tool, we can change the future of Bihar and build a more equitable, prosperous society for all.
