A lot of the (neo)druidic community are really rad!
If anyone's looking for resources that are honest about attribution of both historical and modern concepts, I recommend John Michael Greer* and Dana O'Driscoll 💜
I might be biased - I'm a member of AODA (Ancient Order of Druids in America)**, of which Dana is the current Grand Archdruid, and JMG formerly was.
There are obs some big names I've missed (like Philip Carr-Gomm and Emma Restall Orr), but my brain struggles with reading, so I haven't read enough of their work to recommend them.
💚
*Disclaimer: I don't agree with or support all of JMG's work/views - in recent years, he's been shifting more Golden Dawn-wards, which is obvs problematic for a number of reasons, but it's generally pretty easy to spot/avoid the books in that overlap. He can also be quite a fan of 'poetic history', but tends to be very clear on what's genuine history, and what's poetic.
**I'm Aussie***, but as an order that focuses on learning about/connecting with your own biosphere, rather than being focused on England, it felt a much better fit than any other orders I've looked at. It also doesn't have any particular religious leaning, which appealed to me as a secular practitioner - although their membership spans a whole spectrum of belief systems!
*** Fellow Aussies: Australian Druidry by Julie Brett is a great introduction to the topic!
Hot take: there's nothing wrong with using the term "druid" to describe yourself or your practice so long as you understand that your traditions are not ancient and do not in fact have that kind of historical precedent.
Frankly, I think it's kind of a cute term to describe animistic and earth focused paths and it's a shame that it had been adopted by ahistorical and ignorant new agers.

Brooklyn (2015)
Brooklyn brings us back to moments in our lives that caused us heartache and great joy. Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan) is a long way from home and all is new to her, the city is older than she is but through her young eyes, she does not yet see the exciting and adventurous life waiting for her.
Suffering from homesickness and facing her own challenges she breaks through this short dark moment and makes a life for herself. A life that changes her situation and one that would make her mother and sister proud. education, employment and falling in love has changed what she once knew and felt about the choices she has made.
throughout the film, we are shown her emotions from facial expression and the way in which Eilis gazes and goes into what seems to be a daydream. from what we know about her we can somewhat guess what she may be thinking. her tear-glazed eyes tell it all. Tony (Emory Cohen) is what keeps Eilis’ mind off things and gives her a chance to be happy and have someone to comfort her. Tony will then play an important part in the film.
So, all is going well and then like a fist to the gut, comes the most devastating news Rose (Fiona Glascott) Eilis’ sister has died. At this point in the film, we are back at square one. Lost. Again, her emotions are told in her eyes and we can tell there is a lump in her throat. A lot more takes place in the second half, we are taken back to Ireland where another story unfolds. Eilis faces more challenges and it's now up to her to make a choice between her new life that she has built or the old one she left behind and not forgetting her old love while she has possibly found a new one.
For a film set in the 1950s which tells a story of love it also incorporates migration mainly displaying people of Irish background. It does not stray away from its genre not for one moment. The use of costumes has played a vital role in keeping the viewer aware of the time period and what may have occurred during those times. Again, costumes have proved useful, as Eilis life changes so do her clothes and appearance. before leaving for America her clothes were average but having a new career it brings new clothes, clothes she may never be able to afford. When the use of sets is thrown into the mix it solidifies everything. We are not left wondering what dances looked like during the 1950s we given visuals within these visuals were also shown how young adults of that time behaved. What stood out was how the film used the dancehall and the other charterers. The boys would choose who they danced with and if the girls were lucky it would be someone they fancied.

Tony is watching Eilis
in the still above we witness Tony choosing Eilis and it is at this point he has chosen her forever. Out of all the girls there that were not picked for a dance and ones that were not, why did he picker? What was it about here? Even though Tony said he likes Irish girls there were many there and many had come before
At the start Eilis has a lot on her plate but on the other hand Tony has everything in order in his life, when Eilis returned home after her sister death it was hard watching Tony miss her and all at the same times, she was considering her future and where she belongs. No just this but who she loves. During her friend’s wedding, we can clearly see who she truly longs for, the retaliation seems to shock her into snapping out if her out of what seems to be a rushed decision of what her life is meant to be. The use of the wedding, the zooming on of Eilis' faces and the blurring of the bride were key also having Jim Farrell (Domhnall Gleeson) sitting next to her smiling and then having Eilis’ facial expression change told us then who she belonged to.
This film is played with emotion and the mind. Having wanted Eilis to have a good life and find love then one day settle down was the main idea, however the thought of Mary Lacey (Jane Brennan) her mother being left all alone was heartache enough. And thinking that Tony would lose the love of life so suddenly was enough to put a lump in a throat. With all, it's clear to see that Eilis was fighting for a better life she did not want to end up like the girls in her town or worse miss a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is understandable that no one wants to work so hard only to end up where they started. All she wanted was the same opportunity but in Ireland.
Overall a very heartwarming film it shows that patience and time change all.

Caleb rolled the map up and held onto it. Yes, he was disappointed that he wasn't going after Dutch but getting information on O'Driscoll was also a good thing. Sure, Caleb could rough this woman up to get what he wants, which he usually does. But he didn't think it was right to do that to a lady. Now if Emma had been a man then yes, he would've been more forceful. He'll get Van Der Linde one day. Today was not that day.
"Yes, but this is still helpful. Thank you," He paused for a moment. "Now can I get some ammo while I'm here?"

"You're welcome."
Honestly, she'd rather this man go after Colm than Dutch or her brother going after him. Dutch didn't always think clearly when it came to Colm.
"I hope you understand why I can't help with Dutch. But good luck with the O'Driscolls."

“Look at you trying to put me into a tough spot right away.”
Emma always dreaded these sorts of situations; of course she would be loyal to her family. She didn’t want anything to happen to them (minus Micah), especially not because of her. And of all the members of the gang, if this guy went after Dutch, she knew her brother would throw himself into the fray.
“Mister- I didn’t get your name…?”

“Oh, pardon me. My name’s Caleb Walker.”
The bounty hunter had a feeling that she wasn’t going to give up Dutch and that was okay. He’d just have to keep searching. But perhaps she could also help him with other bounties he was after. Like Colm O'driscoll for instance. He knew the two gangs were at war. So maybe this visit wasn’t for nothing.

After Emma finished marking the spots on the map, he looked it over. He knew the O'Driscolls were a big gang and there was no way Caleb would be able to get Colm in his camp by himself. But maybe the bounty hunter could snag Colm when he was possibly in town or something like that.
"This is helpful, thank you."

With the pen in hand, Emma smoothed out the map and studied it for a moment. She wanted to make sure she was as accurate as possible to Colm's locations as well as the rest of his gang. She tapped the paper to get his attention.
"Now here-? I heard his boys were camped out around here. BUT, here and here? Those are more diversion hangouts. Colm himself? I heard he was seen recently-" She circled the two towns that were in close proximity on the map. "in both these areas. And frequently. He's probably real close."
