A few episodes back – I forget which one because my head is so full of Representation now – in one of Emilie’s old videos she referred to Adrien as their ‘little prince’.
It stuck in my head, because again, we have to remember it’s a French show, and ‘The Little Prince’ is a French literary classic. I don’t think it’s a stretch to look at this, considering ‘Le Petit Prince’ merchandise is eeeeeverywhere in Paris, there’s a statue for him in the Grevin Wax Museum, and there are roads named after the author.
If you haven’t read the book, I recommend it. It’s beautiful, albeit very sad, and not very long. Without giving everything away, it’s about a boy with blond curls who comes to Earth from another planet. It is, at its heart, a story about loneliness, relationships, and learning to love, but it is also very much about the distinction between children and adults - namely, that adults have lost the magic, the ability to see things as they ‘truly are’. The adult world is depicted as materialistic and cold, a world of rules and ownership, while the boy knows love is the only thing that matters.
And when I say the book contains a love story…it revolves around the prince trying to nurture and care for and meet the demands of a red rose. Just thinking of Ladybug in red, and how many times Cat brings her / Marinette red roses. (For interest’s sake, other key characters in the book include a fox and a snake.)
I believe when Emilie refers to Adrien as their ‘little prince’…well, in a way, we can see this as him being heir to the empire, with expectations on his shoulders…but it’s that word ‘little’ that makes me feel she is indicating that Adrien is almost a wonder from another world, dropped into the confusing world of adults with bad priorities.
Just like the prince of the novella, Adrien begins his journey painfully naïve but has his eyes opened to the harshness of the world…and rejects all of it, refusing to become like that, as he grows.
I can only hope Adrien has a happier ending than The Little Prince.
Please no post-Representation spoilers in comments :)

A list of Miraculous headcanons a friend and I have collected over time of indecently chattering about Miraculous Ladybug. Despite the fact, we both hate it and haven't seen most of the series.
Nathalie is the daughter of an Italian crime family
She left to work for her friends Gabriel and Emilie but still keeps close contacts with her family(For "Emergencies")
Nathalie has made a few people "disappear" as needed over the years
Both by her own hands and by calling in a favor from one of her brothers or cousins
Gorilla is Russian which is why he never speaks since he barely understands a word of French
Gorilla got into some big trouble as a young man and ended up having to get saved by Nathalie's family which landed him in debt to them and working for the family
Gorilla has known Nathalie since she was a little girl
Gorilla has nicknames for a lot of the other characters
Little Bird - Nathalie, Little Red - Marinette, Candy Cane Fashion Man - Gabriel, Little Cat Boy - Adrien
Nathalie dragged Gorilla with her to Paris when she went to work for the Agrestes, against Gorilla's wishes
Gorilla didn't like the French, calling them "Baggette munching surrender monkeys"
That was until he walked into the Dupain-Cheng bakery and met the most imposing Frenchman he'd ever seen in Tom
Then immediately followed by getting hit in the face with a baker's peel by Sabine who saw a giant silent man rushing at her husband and the register and reacted as so(Gorilla wanted to greet Tom but was too intimidating for his own good)
Marinette has only recently come to Paris and so still speaks very little French
She is adorable and struggling but getting along, especially after befriending Adrien
Adrien is helping Marinette to get better at French since he also speaks Mandarin Chinese and is pretty familiar with being surrounded by other languages he doesn't know
Adrien speaks French, not-perfect Mandarin, and a bit of Italian and Russian
So Adrien has regularly had the experience since of catching only a few words as Nathalie yells at Gorilla in Italian, Gorilla argues back in Russian, Marinette asks a million questions in Mandarin, and Gabriel is loudly bewildered in French
Gorilla respects Marinette since her parents are awesome and she also is a confused foreigner who cannot speak French
They sometimes just nonverbally communicate at each other
Think random finger guns and knowing nods
Gorilla and Nathalie chauffeur Adrien and Marinette on their silliness both as a part of their job and to escape Gabriel
This is less of a headcanon and more of just a shared fact that neither of us trusts Emilie. That bitch is up to something in her casket
Gorilla has given the kids alcohol before since in Russia, they would be able to drink.
"A little part of Russia, come with me~," he says, as he's about to give two teenagers vodka.
Gorilla once got akumatized into a Russian themed villain. But all he did was take over the Agreste mansion, make it look like the St Basil's Cathedral, throw Gabriel into the basement with a note on the door that just says "Makeshift Gulag", and make sure Adrien has a good day.
Ladybug was very hesitant to let Gabriel out of the basement
Especially after Akumatized Gorilla kindly invited Marinette's family over for dinner
It was a very interesting day
Really It's more of an AU at this point but most of them are applicable to canon.

HOT 100 HCs: Emily Prentiss
Tumblr media
Friends. Colleagues. I am starting a new thing (but not ending any old things, don't worry babes). I'm calling it HOT 100 Headcanons. Basically, I've created playlists for characters that include all the songs that they love and/or have shaped them in some way. I take cues from the canon characters (for example, canon Emily was a rocker in high school, so her playlist includes quite a bit of rock).
I don't know if anyone else will enjoy this or care about it and, frankly, I don't care. I really enjoyed making it, and I really do believe it's doing deep dives like this that help you really get to know a character (or your HC of them, anyway). Enjoy, if you're into that kind of thing!
HOT 100 HCs: Emily Prentiss
Note(s): When I think of the Criminal Minds characters, I always think of them as being Elite Team-age in the present. If Paget Brewster’s age roughly equals Emily’s, then Emily joined the BAU when she was 36/37. If we move the Elite Team timeline up so it starts in 2024, she’d have been born in 1987. That’s the date I work from when calculating these Hot 100 Lists.
(Also, the first parentheses is the date the song was released. The second is the age Emily was when it was released.)
Nat King Cole, “Nature Boy” (March 29, 1948) (N/A)
Emily’s grandfather didn’t have tapes or CDs at his chalet in the French Alps, but he did have a turntable, and Nat King Cole was one of his favorites to spin. Now it always reminds Emily of him. She still likes to spin Nat King Cole and dance with you in the living room.
2. Édith Piaf, “Milord” (May 8, 1949) (N/A)
Another record straight from her grandfather’s house. They listened to a lot of Édith Piaf, but this was her favorite as a little girl. She thought it was funny, and it helped her learn how to do uvular trills, since French wasn’t her first language.
3. Juliette Gréco, “Sur les quais du vieux Paris” (October 1951) (N/A)
Little Emily didn’t get to go to Paris much, mostly just as a stopover on the way to her grandfather’s. But whenever her grandfather brought her back to her mom, he’d take her around Paris for a day, and she always thought it was the most magical place in the world.
4. Georges Brassens, “Je Me Suis Fait Tout Petit” (February 2, 1956) (N/A)
Her grandfather played classical-style guitar and loved the work of Georges Brassens. He often played it and sang for Emily. Georges Brassens was a significantly better singer than her grandfather was, but sometimes Emily wishes she had a recording of her grandfather instead of Brassens. Nevertheless, listening to it still reminds her of sitting with him on the hillsides while he played.
5. Léo Ferré, “L’affiche rouge” (February 1961) (N/A)
Another favorite of Emily’s grandfather. He was a star of French chanson, a folk music tradition driven heavily by lyrics, almost like poetry put to music. Her grandfather would sometimes read her the poems first and then play her the songs afterward.
6. Marie Laforêt, “Marie douceur, Marie colère” (1966) (N/A)
One of Emily’s first favorite rock songs. She heard this version long before she even knew who Mick Jagger was and, to this day, she could defend in a dissertation-length essay why Marie Laforêt’s lyrics are better than the original.
7. Jacqueline Taieb, “Le cœur au bout des doigts” (1967) (N/A)
A dancing-in-the-living-room standby for Emily at her grandfather’s.
8. Patty Pravo, “La bambola” (May 1968) (N/A)
Emily didn’t discover this one until she lived in Italy, but it’s a perfect sad song, great for dramatically belting in your room or in the car. Which is exactly what she did for months after the asshole of a boy who knocked her up dropped her and she had to go through the abortion process almost alone.
9. Maxime Le Forestier, “San Francisco” (1971) (N/A)
One of the “newest” records her grandfather owned. He only conceded to buying it because Maxime Le Forestier covered so much of Georges Brassens’ work. He ended up loving it. Emily’s first instinct is still to pronounce “San Francisco” like Le Forestier does in this song.
10. Meat Loaf, “I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” (October 21, 1977) (N/A)
Inexplicably, Meat Loaf is one of the only English-speaking artists that Emily’s grandfather liked.
11. Lio, “Le Banana Split” (November 1979) (N/A)
Her grandfather hated this song so much, but she loved it, so he bought it for her anyway. Teeny baby Emily could not get enough of the word “banana,” in any language.
12. Grover Washington, Jr., “Just the Two of Us (feat. Bill Withers)” (1980) (N/A)
Emily’s mom loves Bill Withers. One of Emily’s best memories of childhood is dancing to this song with her mom. Now her favorite memory is dancing to it with you at your wedding.
13. Yazoo, “Only You” (August 16, 1982) (N/A)
A regular on Emily’s mom’s boom box when Emily was young.
14. Metallica, “For Whom the Bell Tolls” (July 27, 1984) (N/A)
Discovered during *Emily's teen rock era.*
15. Madonna, “Into the Groove” (July 15, 1985) (N/A)
Emily’s mom is a big Madonna fan, so there was a lot of Madonna in little Emily’s house.
16. Siouxsie and the Banshees, “Cities in Dust” (April 21, 1986) (N/A)
Discovered during *Emily’s teenage rock era*
17. Berlin, “Take My Breath Away” (May 13, 1986) (N/A)
Top Gun was Emily’s mom’s favorite movie for a solid decade of her childhood, so Emily was very familiar with the music. This song was her favorite.
18. Alannah Myles, “Black Velvet” (March 14, 1989) (1)
Emily will tell you that she remembers being young and trying on her mom’s makeup in front of the mirror to this song.
19. Metallica, “Enter Sandman” (August 12, 1991) (3)
Discovered during *Emily's teen rock era.*
20. Nirvana, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (September 26, 1991) (3)
Didn’t discover Nirvana until her teen years, but Nevermind remains one of her favorite albums of all time.
21. Lara Fabian, “Je Suis Malade” (1994) (6)
Tiny little Emily heard this in a café in Paris with her mom and begged her mom to buy it on vinyl so she could bring it to her grandfather’s. Her mom obliged, mostly to shut her up, and Emily spent all summer listening to it. It was the first song that ever gave her chills. She still knows every word, still loves to belt it in the car, and still swears up and down that Lara Fabian’s version is better than Celine Dion’s.
22. Tori Amos, “Cornflake Girl” (January 31, 1994) (6)
Emily’s mom went through a real Tori Amos phase. Little Emily genuinely thought this song was about cereal and asked her mom to play it over and over again.
23. Beck, “Loser” (March 1, 1994) (6)
Little Emily loved the slide guitar and that the song said “loser,” which her mom did not let her call anyone.
24. Bush, “Comedown” (December 6, 1994) (7)
Emily was late to discover a lot of ‘90s and 2000s rock because it was hard to access non-mainstream American music abroad, but when iTunes came around when she was 13 or 14, she spent an ungodly amount of her mom’s money buying songs and albums, including this one.
25. Collective Soul, “December” (March 15, 1995) (7)
Discovered during *Emily’s teenage rock era*
26. April March, “Le Temps de l’amour” (October 20, 1995) (8)
Another favorite from her French summers. A sneak peak of later punk rock Emily.
27. April March, “Chick Habit” (October 20, 1995) (8)
Emily lords it over every gay she knows that she knew this song from the original album and not from But I’m a Cheerleader. But she does love But I’m a Cheerleader… This was her favorite CD for a solid year or more.
28. The Smashing Pumpkins, “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” (October 23, 1995) (8)
Discovered during *Emily’s teenage rock era*
29. OMC, “How Bizarre” (January 1, 1996) (8)
A favorite track on Emily’s favorite CD, Now That’s What I Call Music! 3.
30. Backstreet Boys, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” (May 6, 1996) (8)
All the kids knew this one, in any country Emily visited or lived in.
31. Khaled, “Aïcha” (November 1996) (9)
Emily’s mom was the U.S. ambassador to Oman for a few years during Emily’s childhood. Emily learned Arabic quickly and tried very hard, as she did in all the places she lived, to fit in seamlessly with the people around her. So, of course, the songs she sang and danced to with her friends were the ones popular in Oman at the time.
32. Third Eye Blind, “Jumper” (April 8, 1997)
Discovered during *Emily’s teenage rock era*
33. Rachid Taha, “Ya Rayah” (August 5, 1997) (9)
Another favorite of Emily and her friends during her time in Oman. They even had a little choreographed dance they did all together.
34. Will Smith, “Miami” (October 3, 1997) (9)
Tiny Emily genuinely thought she was the baddest little bitch in the world for knowing all these lyrics, despite having never been to Miami or a club or anything.
35. Britney Spears, “...Baby One More Time” (January 12, 1999) (9)
Honestly, what ‘90s kid didn’t have a formative moment with a Britney Spears song?
36. Buena Vista Social Club, “Chan Chan” (September 16, 1997) (9)
Emily was an adult when she discovered Buena Vista Social Club, but they’re one of her very favorites on vinyl now. She started listening to them while she learned Spanish in college.
37. Green Day, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” (October 4, 1997) (9)
Discovered during *Emily’s teenage rock era*
38. Hakim, “Wala Wahed” (1998) (10)
Emily’s mom was transferred to Cairo in 1998, where Emily had to start over again–but thankfully not with a completely new language. She really liked sha’bi music, and her best friend’s dad played drums in a jeel band.
39. Less Than Jake, “All My Best Friends Are Metalheads” (January 1, 1998) (11)
One of Emily’s earlier alt finds. She loved it.
40. Cher, “Believe” (October 19, 1998) (11)
Another favorite of Emily’s mom’s. On repeat in little Emily’s kitchen in Cairo.
41. Alaa Zalzali, “Akli Tar” (1999) (11)
Emily was obsessed with this song and the whole album because it combined two languages she knew and loved: Arabic and French.
42. Crazy Town, “Butterfly” (November 4, 1999) (12)
Emily loved this song so much, and she jokes that looking back it should have been a huge flag that she was gay.
43. A Perfect Circle, “Judith” (January 1, 2000) (12)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
44. Anastacia, “I’m Outta Love” (February 29, 2000) (12)
Even Emily’s hard little rock heart still loved a pop anthem.
45. Pascale Machaalani, “Nour El Chams” (June 25, 2000) (12)
All the girls in Cairo wanted to be Pascale Machaalani. Think of her as the Beyoncé of Emily’s preteen years.
46. Rage Against The Machine, “Renegades” (December 5, 2000) (13)
One of the first rock songs Emily discovered and fell in love with. She still knows all the words.
47. Staind, “Outside” (May 22, 2001) (13)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
48. System of a Down, “Toxicity” (September 4, 2001) (13)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
49. Noir Désir, “La vent nous portera” (September 11, 2001) (13)
Even when she lived in the Middle East, Emily still spent summers with her grandfather in France. As always, he’d let her have a day in Paris when she flew in, and she always visited a music store to buy all the new French alt albums she could find.
50. Hoobastank, “Crawling In The Dark” (November 20, 2001) (14)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
51. Saliva, “Always” (January 1, 2002) (14)
Emily’s mom considered sending her to therapy because she listened to this song so much.
52. Seether, “Driven Under” (January 1, 2002) (14)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
53. Seether, “Fine Again” (January 1, 2002) (14)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
54. Sum 41, “The Hell Song” (January 1, 2002) (14)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
55. Mango, “La rondine” (July 9, 2002) (14)
Wildly popular while Emily lived in Italy. Think of him as the Peter Gabriel of Italian music.
56. Chevelle, “The Red” (October 8, 2002) (14)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
57. Audioslave, “Cochise” (November 17, 2002) (15)
Italy Emily was baby rocker Emily, but she wasn’t very external about it because the Catholic church was not a fan.
58. Evanescence, “Bring Me To Life” (March 4, 2003) (15)
Another song that was on repeat for Emily post-abortion. Sweet baby Emily was so depressed and honestly really needed to go to therapy. She wouldn’t say she likes the song now, exactly, but it brings her back to a specific time and place that were very formative for her.
59. Linkin Park, “Lying from You” (March 25, 2003) (15)
A classic teenager Linkin Park moment.
60. The Darkness, “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” (July 7, 2003) (15)
*Emily’s teenage rock era*
61. Three Days Grace, “I Hate Everything About You” (July 22, 2003) (15)
Emily will tell you that this song is what she felt like most of the time in Italy, trying really hard to fit in, trying to like boys, really liking girls, all-in-all having a terrible time.
62. Jet, “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” (September 15, 2003) (15)
Emily jokes that this one also should have been a dead giveaway that she liked girls.
63. Keane, “Somewhere Only We Know” (May 10, 2004) (16)
She will never admit it, but this song still makes her cry.
64. Seether, “Remedy” (January 1, 2005) (17)
Emily is a little embarrassed about liking Seether so much, but she really does.
65. Negrita, “Rotolando Verso Sud” (January 21, 2005) (17)
A favorite of Emily’s after she and her mom moved back to the States in 2004. She felt very out of place, which makes sense considering she’d grown up across several countries. She found a lot of comfort in listening to music in her other languages, since she didn’t really get to hear it spoken anymore.
66. Negramaro, “Estate” (February 7, 2005) (17)
By this point, Emily's deep in her rebellious rocker phase. Because it’s Emily, her dramatic rocker music is in several languages, though.
67. System of a Down, “Lonely Day” (November 22, 2005) (18)
Technically not a teenager anymore, an adult. But now her music taste is pretty solidly set on rock (with some variations here and there).
68. Rihanna, “SOS” (April 10, 2006) (18)
Not usually a big pop fan, but she has a huge soft spot for Rihanna. Particularly this song because she says that’s how obsessive she is about you. It always makes you laugh.
69. AFI, “Prelude 12/21” (June 6, 2006) (18)
She’s a drama queen, she just won’t admit it.
70. My Chemical Romance, “Teenagers” (19)
*Emily’s adult rock era*
71. Fall Out Boy, “Thnks fr th Mmrs” (January 1, 2007) (19)
Yes, even Emily likes listening to Fall Out Boy sometimes.
72. Avril Lavigne, “Girlfriend” (April 17, 2007) (19)
Okay, but who doesn’t love Avril Lavigne?
73. Linkin Park, “Given Up” (May 14, 2007) (19)
Adult Emily still loves Linkin Park. It’s nostalgic now.
74. Vampire Weekend, “A-Punk” (January 29, 2008) (20)
*Emily’s adult rock era* (but make it less dramatic and depressing than usual)
75. Max Gazzè, “Il Solito Sesso” (February 29, 2008) (20)
Sure, she’s in college, but she still loves Italian music and keeps up with her friends from Italy. Plus, she’s starting to accept that she likes girls, and the girls love it when she speaks Italian.
76. Katy Perry, “I Kissed a Girl” (June 17, 2008) (20)
Loves this song for very obvious reasons. Plus, when this came out there wasn’t really much queer girl music and Emily was in her feral, fresh-out-of-the-closet baby lesbian era.
77. Halestorm, “Mz. Hyde” (April 9, 2012) (24)
Oof. Big ol’ crush on Lzzy Hale.
78. Superheaven, “Youngest Daughter” (April 5, 2013) (25)
Once a rocker, always a rocker.
79. Indila, “Tourner Dans Le Vide” (February 24, 2014) (26)
Emily is a huge fan of Indila because her music sounds like a combination of French and Arabic, and it reminds of her childhood.
80. Highly Suspect, “Lydia” (July 17, 2015) (27)
Big fan of Highly Suspect.
81. K. Flay, “Blood In The Cut” (April 17, 2017) (29)
Hearkening back to her dramatic-ass punk-rock youth.
82. Polo & Pan, “Cœur croisé” (May 19, 2017) (29)
Emily loves Polo & Pan. They’re her go-to for international air travel. Something about their music just feels like whimsy and adventure to her.
83. Pomme, “Ceux qui rêvent” (October 6, 2017) (29)
Emily is a dramatic French woman at heart, and you love her for it.
84. Beck, “Dreams” (October 13, 2017) (30)
Beck? Of course she loves Beck. She’s loved Beck since “Loser” came out when she was six.
85. Death Cab for Cutie, “Northern Lights” (August 17, 2018) (30)
For when she’s in her feels.
86. Muse, “Pressure (feat. UCLA Bruin Marching Band)” (November 9, 2018) (31)
It’s Muse. Duh.
87. Alice Merton, “Roots” (January 29, 2019) (31)
Loves this because (a) it’s a fun song and (b) she really relates to the lyrics.
88. Vanille, “Suivre le soleil” (June 7, 2019) (31)
Her go-to for when you’re driving on vacation in the French Riviera. Coincidentally, you don’t know that she’s ever been more attractive driving a convertible with a sun hat on blaring French music that she knows all the words too while treating you to a vacation on the Mediterranean Sea.
89. The Black Keys, “Go” (June 28, 2019) (31)
The Black Keys lean a little blues-rock for Emily usually, but their music is just so damn catchy. Plus, you love them, and that makes her love them.
90. Harry Styles, “Watermelon Sugar” (December 13, 2019)
Loves this song for one reason and one reason only: she heard it was about eating a girl out. She hasn’t heard Billie Eilish’s “LUNCH” yet and, honestly, you’re afraid to show her.
91. The Strokes, “Why Are Sundays So Depressing” (April 10, 2020)
She loves The Strokes. And, also, she thinks Sundays are depressing because she knows she’ll have to leave you and go back to work the next day.
92. cleopatrick, “THE DRAKE” (March 11, 2021) (33)
A current fave. Plus she likes that their Spotify artist description is just “guitar band.” She thinks that’s hilarious.
93. Halestorm, “Back From The Dead” (August 18, 2021) (33)
Emily is, through and through, a Lzzy Hale girl. She was 21 when their first album came out and had a massive crush on Lzzy.  Didn’t know if she wanted to be her or be with her. Lowkey still doesn’t know. You tease her about it relentlessly.
94. Muse, “Will Of The People” (June 1, 2022) (34)
Muse, because duh.
95. Madelline, “dopamine - Version Française” (May 12, 2023) (35)
Still a sucker for French pop all these years later.
96. KennyHoopla, “YOU NEEDED A HIT//” (May 19, 2023) (35)
KennyHoopla brings her straight back to her 2000s rock roots, and she’s obsessed.
97. Mother Mother, “To My Heart” (September 15, 2023) (35)
A new discovery for Emily, but she’s really into them right now.
98. Mammothor, “Inside Out” (December 15, 2023) (36)
*Emily’s adult rock era*
99. St. Vincent, “Broken Man” (February 29, 2024) (36)
Emily loves St. Vincent. She’s not much of a concert person, but you did take her to see St. Vincent for her birthday once and she was over the moon.
100. Doña Manteca, “Tengo una Debilidad” (May 10, 2024) (36)
You found them on TikTok before their album came out and sent it to her. She pre-ordered their album on vinyl, and it’s her favorite thing to dance with you to right now.

Thoughts on Emily in Paris S4, Part 2
Tumblr media
S4, Part 2 Spoilers below....
Although S4 part 1 was much happier for Emily and Gabriel, it was inevitable that they had get past the love triangle between Emily, Gabriel, and Camille. Unfortunately for Gabriel’s sake, he failed to successfully balance his relationships between the two females masterfully. So instead of an essay style review, thought I would break it down character by character.
Gabriel: Where to begin with him? This guy is all over the place. He’s always been wishy washy, but even moia who has been a fan of Emily x Gabriel pairing since S1 was a little disappointed in him. So, he can spend Christmas with Camille’s family for a couple days, but can’t hop on a plane to Chicago? Despite Camille’s family place being closer to his restaurant, it was kind of a weak excuse. As far as the skiing incident, I understand that he was in-between a rock and a hard place with wanting to protect Camille’s fake baby, but Camille had mentioned that she was an expert skier, and she was certainly not in any peril but in a split second, he leaves the inexperienced Emily in the dust. Despite Camille’s family plotting against Emily and Gabriel as a pair from the beginning, Gabriel illustrated Emily’s worst fears, that he cares more for Camille/baby than he does about Emily, even when Emily was scared. And yes, sometimes people make mistakes and had there been a sincere apology and Gabriel going after Emily after she left, perhaps there would be some grace given, but he pretty much let Emily leave without much argument and then he shut her out for the remainder of the season. He really is shit at communication. I’m kinda on team Emily after that breakup. Gabrielle needs to earn her back if he ever wants a chance again.
Emily: Although Emily is far from perfect, I felt for her when she was all alone on Christmas and then ran into Alfie who had clearly happily moved on. (I’m glad for Alfie by the way. He deserved a happy ending.) I get that Emily not learning to be fluent in French is part of a schtick because we arrogant Americans expect everyone to speak English, but I think being in Paris for more than a year (right?), she should be more fluent in French by now. That said however, I did think it was unfair that Gabrielle at his low point criticized her flaw for not ever speaking to him in French when she was already down. Emily’s fatal flaw however is that she tries to gloss over all of her feelings and she never really takes time to process. It probably would have been healthier for her to be alone for awhile, but that would be boring TV I guess. One small sign of growth however, I’m glad she did not tell Genevieve about the available apartment, and I liked that she told Camille that she no longer tried to plan too far into the future. I think Emily is no longer wearing the rose-colored glasses and is starting to realize that life is messy and rather than planning everything out, she is trying to carpe diem more.
Camille: I know she’s got a huge fandom on Tumblr but I still think she’s kind of a selfish biyatch. She wants Gabriel, then she doesn’t, so she ruins Emilys relationship with Alfie, and then Emily and Gabriel get together and Camille decides she wants to ruin that relationship because her relationship with Sofia didn’t work out. And she never really came clean about her lying about her fake pregnancy. Might have made a difference in preserving Emily and Gabriels relationship had she told Gabriel weeks or months earlier when she found out that she was not actually pregnant and has been carrying on a ruse for some time-but she doesn’t care about that or being held accountable for her actions. Personally not sure someone who is so selfish should be a mother, but if she winds up being a single mom, she’s going to learn some hard lessons. That is unless she tries to hook Gabrielle again due to his desire to also raise children.
Genevieve: That girl is trouble. I’m predicting it right now. If there is an EIP S5, she’s going to try to take over Emily’s life, ‘Single-white female-style.’
Sylvie: That woman is forever fabulous, but not sure what’s going on with her and her Laurent. It was odd that he took off so quickly leaving Sylvie to deal with his offspring. I don’t blame Sylvie for playing the field again, but think there are some things that she likely needs to tell Laurent. It felt like this season, Emily was rubbing off on Sylvie so perhaps Sylvie will want to keep things more black and white with her work life and relationships, which might not be a bad thing since Sylvie didn’t seem all that thrilled to learn that Laurent went to NYC on numerous occasions to hook up with Genevieve’s mom. Also like that Sylvie is turning into a type of mentor for Emily. Love their ever-evolving relationship.
Mindy: I’m very happy that Mindy stuck to her guns and found some success. Thought that Nicola was turning over a new leaf early on, but it looks like he chose to be cruel like his father instead. Although I hope Mindy can still find her way back to Emily since they are so close and their relationship is the true heart of the show.
Luc & Julien: Love those two. My favorite moment was when Julien told Genevieve that Emilys desk was warm enough. Glad someone put her in her place. I imagine next season they are going to have to wrestle with her two-faced antics again.
Marcello: He seems like a gentleman and a nice distraction for Emily. But if there is a S5, I predict an unhappy end for him. Reading in-between the lines he’s pretty perfect, but perhaps almost too-perfect. I’m wondering why he was so rigid in not wanting to discuss business with someone he claimed to care about, and why he was unwilling to agree to come to Paris to see Emily again. Although now she is in Italy so there is not an issue, but predict that should Emily want to return to Paris it looks like he would not be willing to make the commute.
Whew, so this turned out to be a longer review than I thought, but it was an entertaining season. I do wish however that just once, showrunners wouldn’t be afraid to invest in a romantic couple without having to break them up all the time. Romance can be interesting in a committed relationship as well. Anyhow, hoping they get a S5 and Emily gets her happy beginning too.
P.S. BTW, hate that Netflix is now running ads during the shows. Such bullsh*t that even if you pay, they still run the ads. Not a good move for Netflix IMHO. Hope they don’t lose a bunch of subscribers this way.

Hello, I’ve asked this question to a few TD theorists before and was wondering your thoughts. I still don’t feel like I’ve received a solid answer on this it seems to be overlooked by most of you. I don’t mean this to be an insult but I do think it’s particularly important. Emily appears to be in LA and we know Season 3 is filming and has been for a month now. She posts almost everyday on social media mostly Instagram stories. She tags LA places she is at daily such as concert venues, restaurants, coffee shops. It’s also obvious when she is filming at her place in LA she films in the same spots and it’s easily identifiable for anyone who looks at her daily posts. I know Emily was at a Manchester and French con but so were many other actors that are dead or aren’t on any of the other spinoffs. She was also only there for about a week or so. She even has a concert scheduled in LA tomorrow. I guess my question is how can we continue to ignore Emily’s whereabouts? She isn’t in Europe when they are filming for a show we are saying she’s going to be on. Symbolism in a show means nothing when the person we need to be filming is not filming.
Hi friend! I just want you to know I don’t take your question as an insult, it’s a perfectly valid thing to ask. And right off the bat, I doubt I’m going to have an answer for you that is more satisfactory than the ones you’ve received in the past, and I’m sorry about that.
Being in TD definitely does have an element of blind faith to it, there’s no way around that. When I place such high emphasis on the symbolism of the show, it’s because I really do interpret it as a story of Beth’s resurrection. Having said that, the exact details of when/where/how are almost impossible to decipher. We’ve been wrong in the past and will probably be wrong again, in a variety of different ways.
In previous asks, I’ve talked about how the TV industry has changed so much in so little time. While I don’t have any type of inside information into that, I can imagine that plans that originally looked one way might have been scrapped due to unforeseen changes, such as the show ending, the Rick movie trilogy tuning into a limited mini series, other spinoffs etc. It’s stuff that no one really could have foreseen just a short while ago. I’ve also speculated that perhaps it was Emily herself who wasn’t ready to return due to mental health issues which she opened up about on social media a few years ago. Again, I want to stress that I don’t necessarily have a solid theory on that, it’s just one of a million legitimate possible explanations for why she still hasn’t returned.
You mentioned the Manchester con. While I enjoy reading other people’s theories on things like that, it’s not really something I personally pay much attention to. For starters, I don’t follow the actors’ schedules particularly closely, so chances are I don’t even know these things before someone else writes about it. While she technically could combine these types of things with filming, I think it’s entirely possible to film even without these events as “cover”. MMB spent time in Paris being locked up in a hotel while filming TBOC, and I believe that’s possible for others as well. If that’s what they need to do, they’ll find a way to do it.
So you say that Emily spends her time in LA at the moment, and that’s worrying for everyone who wants to believe she will be returning to the show. I agree with that, I would have loved to see something suggesting she was off somewhere filming.
I’ve got a couple of things to say to that. First, while I believe and hope she’ll return for s3 in Spain. I’m not locked on to that. There are other spinoffs, filming other places, such as Dead City. Hypothetically she could return there. @wdway theorizes that she might return in a potential season 2 of Tales of The Walking Dead. She could also appear in any of these shows in the form of a flashback or flash forward of some kind, and she doesn’t need to be in Spain to film that.
Something else I’ve been thinking about lately, which might not be a popular opinion but I’ll share it nonetheless, is that her role in the show might look different than we first thought when we joined TD. I’ve already mentioned the rapidly changing TV industry. When I joined TD almost a decade ago, the mothership TWD was a massive enterprise, with 16 episodes per season. There was infinite room for an elaborate, well fleshed out Beth/bethyl storyline.
Now, not so much. I’ve watched the leaked episodes of TBOC, and while I won’t spoil anything here, I will say that it’s only six episodes, and not even very long ones at that, and it’s super condensed and action packed (it’s a great show though, I loved it). There’s simply less room for the type of storyline we anticipated when we first stated theorizing. I’m not spoiling anything when I say that TBOC is full of Beth callbacks and Beth dialogue parallels (I’ve already written about it here and here, and rest assured there’ll be more posts, because holy mother of pearl…). But I think we should probably adjust our expectations in terms of how big of a role she will play when she returns, at least for the foreseeable future, simply because there are so few episodes per season.
And finally, as I always say, I don’t watch the show exclusively with Beth in mind, I’m a fan of the entire TWDU, and I love the show regardless of whether Beth returns or not. I fully believe she will, because that’s how I interpret the symbolism, but I don’t hate every episode or season where she doesn’t. Everyone’s different and I’m not judging anyone, but it’s probably easier for me to thoroughly enjoy the show even when Beth isn’t here, simply because I love it regardless.
So while I would love to see spoiler pics of her in Spain, I’m not terribly distressed when she seems to stay put in LA, because there are still a number of ways in which she could be “resurrected”😘

Just finished the Ian Doyle storyline (+half of S7) and omfg it’s my favorite thing ever I think. So obsessed with Emily’s own stupid brand of self-sacrifice- I love her so much. She was so ready to cut ties with the team forever and she thought they’d literally be fine as if they wouldn’t go to the ends of the earth to find her. They got suspended because of her, they were going to be fired because of their love for her. Like I’m gonna be sick.
Anyways, some things we reallllly skipped over:
1. How long Emily must’ve been undercover if she gained Ian’s trust in a way he literally admits no one else has (told her about Declan)
Like it must’ve been a really long time, and the way Tsia is so confident that making her repeat “Lauren Reynolds is dead” will soothe some of her anxiety makes me thing that Reid’s assessment of the phrase as a mantra is 10000% accurate. It must’ve genuinely fucked with her for a while, especially bc she must’ve been kind of young still.
2. The fact that Ian branded her- oh my lord. Like I know it’s been 7 months from her perspective, but nothing?? Wild to me, I’m sorry- there’s no way in hell that wasn’t extremely traumatic, ESPECIALLY when she was in Paris. Knowing he was out there still, seeing that mark every single day, after he murdered her?? French therapists would’ve been having a field day. And Ik she has a huge ass scar on her stomach too, but being scarred and being branded are wildly different things. Scarring doesn’t imply ownership the way being branded does.
Although headcanon: after Ian died and Emily settled back into the team, her perspective on the clover slowly shifted into the same sort of “I won before you ever got out of North Korea” mentality. Like, “this is the only thing that will ever remind me of you, because you’re gone and I’m still here.”
3. The way that, when he found out she was gone, Reid so so earnestly asked “why wouldn’t she tell us? we’re family, we could help.” OH MY GODDD. Sick and twisted, the whole thing was so sick and twistedddd
4. She kept the ring- she kept the ring and they found it and not a single person asked her about that!!!!

Morbid AU/prompt I'm afflicting the rest of you with
A year ago, after Gabriel's defeat and subsequent arrest, the police found two deceased bodies buried under the Agreste Manor when they discovered Hawkmoth's lair+Emilie Agreste's body.
One of them was a child.
After a yearlong investigation, forensics analyzed the child remains, it was discovered the body belonged to Chloe Bourgeois - who as far as the French authorities knew, was still alive and currently living with her mother in London.
Gabriel then revealed that years ago, the child Chloe at the time got a hold of the Peacock at some point by accident (though this may very well be a lie) and used it, and since she was so young, the effects of the broken miraculous were instantaneous and she died on the spot. Not wanting to have to deal with the potential fallout of his biggest promoter's child dying on their property, Emilie created a senticlone of Chloe and sent the Amok to Audrey as a "thank you" gift (knowing full well she'd end up leaving it in some corner of her bedroom closet in a week or two) while burying the child in the atrium.
Needless to say, the people in the know are...disturbed and unsure how to handle this, especially since Chloe's being brought back to Paris specially to address her own dead body being found in her former childhood friend's home.
(As for who the other body is - dealer's choice! Whatever's the most fucked up option)

Took a Tour of the Stars
It happens quickly. A glint of the knife, a familiar grunting sound from her husband, and the flash of red against his shirt that spreads quickly. She barely has time to react before the men are gone with their belongings and Aaron slumps against the wall, his hand pressing into his lower abdomen as his blood spills out onto the ground.
It was just supposed to be date night.
-x-
Hi friends,
I had honestly planned on updating SGW today (don't worry, there will still be an update over the weekend) but I had a ROUGH day and decided to write something where I could get some of the feels out and...here we are.
I hope you like it, please let me know what you think, feedback always makes me so happy!
-x-
Words: 4.2k
Warnings: Canon typical injury/violence, pregnancy
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
Emily smirks at her husband as he jolts in his seat, sitting up straight as he tries to get away from her foot, how she’d run it up the inside of his thigh.
“Emily,” Aaron says, trying, and failing, to hide how affected he was by her, how affected he’d always been.
“What?” She asks, feigning innocence as she smiles slyly, one of her hands holding her mocktail and her other on her bump, “I’m not doing anything.”
“We’ll be going home soon-”
“Excusez-moi,” she says, cutting over him and finally removing her foot from his lap as she gets the waiter’s attention, “L'addition, s'il vous plaît.”
She ignores her husband’s gaze, how it burns into her, making her shudder with anticipation as the waiter nods at her.
“French, really?” Aaron asks, raising his eyebrow at her as she finally turns to look at him, a glint in her eyes that only ever meant good things for him. She shrugs nonchalantly, as if she didn’t know exactly what hearing her speak French did to him.
As if she wasn’t fairly sure it was the very thing that had led to the night she got pregnant.
“You’re the one who picked the restaurant this time,” she says, finishing her drink and placing the empty glass on the table, “It’s not my fault you picked a French one.”
Date night had become a regular thing since just after she’d had their daughter Alice almost four years ago. At first, it had simply been Aaron’s attempt to get his wife out of the house, to get her used to spending time away from their baby daughter before she went back to work, but it had quickly become more than that. Alice’s birth marked the end of an era for them working together and the start of Emily’s job in another department. Date night had become something important to both of them, time when they could reconnect, when they could just be Emily and Aaron, instead of Mom and Dad or Hotch and Prentiss, and it was something she always treasured.
Especially since life was about to get a whole lot busier in four months when she had the baby she was currently carrying. With Alice, they’d found out as soon as possible what they were having, the knowledge easing Emily’s anxiety throughout her pregnancy. She’d been told when she was in Paris that she might not be able to get pregnant, let alone stay pregnant, so every little twinge, everything that felt strange, had made her worry. She felt calmer this time around, although she was still cautious, already assigned to strict desk duty. They’d made the decision not to find out what they were having, the two of them determined to find out when their child, the one they both knew would be their last, was born.
“What can I say, I’m a martyr,” he says dryly, pulling a laugh out of her as the waiter puts the bill down on the table. Aaron grabs it before she can, raising his eyebrow as she rolls her eyes and sits back in her chair, rubbing a circle on her belly.
“It’s my turn to pay,” she grumbles, narrowing her eyes as he pulls his card out of his wallet and hands it to the waiter.
“And I want to treat my pregnant wife.”
“You can treat me when we get home,” she says, biting her lower lip as he leans forward, his hands linked together on the table in front of him, his wedding ring glinting in the low light of the restaurant.
“I plan on it,” he replies, purposely making his voice deeper, well aware of the impact it had on her. He pulls back as she leans in for a kiss, playing the game she had started, and smiling as she huffs out a breath, “If it makes you feel better, I used the card to our joint account. That way we’re both technically paying for dinner.”
She smiles at him, pressing her hand into her belly where she feels the baby moving, and she allows herself to bask in how well her husband knows her, “That does make me feel better, thank you.”
Once they’ve paid, Emily makes the point of thanking the waiter in French purely to get a reaction out of her husband. Aaron helps her into her jacket, his fingers purposely lingering on her shoulders as he does so, a smile spreading over his face as she shivers.
Emily smiles as he opens the restaurant door for her, forever a gentleman in ways she’s sure would have once annoyed her. As they step out onto the street she wraps both of her arms around one of his and presses her cheek into his shoulder.
“I hope Alice and Jack behaved for JJ and Will,” she says as they start the journey towards their car, she tugs him towards an alley that she knows is a quicker thoroughfare to where they’d parked, two streets over, her feet hurting too much to even think about walking the long way around, “This way is faster.”
Aaron nods and they enter the alley, “Jack would have behaved, Alice on the other hand…she’s just like you so who knows what she’s been up to.”
She acts offended, scoffing like this wasn’t a conversation they had every time they did this. A script of sorts that they both knew the words from, a part of their comfortable, ordinary life.
“She’s perfect,” she says, defending their three-year-old, well aware that when Alice was in full-blown toddler mode she could raise hell.
“I know she is,” he says, kissing the top of her head, “Like I said, she’s just like you.”
Emily blushes, but any response is cut off as two men block them off in the alley, seemingly appearing from nowhere. They were dressed in all black, hoods pulled up over their head and obscuring their faces. She looks down and sees both of them are armed, a large knife in each of their hands. She doesn’t react outwardly, and neither does Aaron apart from the slight step forward he takes to put himself in front of her. She grasps his arm tighter, her nails digging into his skin through his jacket, a silent warning not to do anything stupid.
She thinks of their guns locked up in the hidden safe they have at home. They hadn’t brought anything with them tonight, they never did unless they were working anymore, both of them so safe and content in their day-to-day lives that they didn’t feel the need to.
It was just supposed to be date night. A nice meal with her husband before they went home and had sex before their toddler inevitably crawled into their bed in the middle of the night, a habit they knew they needed to kick before the baby arrived.
It was just supposed to be date night.
“We don’t want any trouble,” Aaron says, his voice even, the years of practice he’d had thanks to his job overriding the fear he was feeling. He couldn’t protect Emily right now, not in the way he wanted to, but he’d let the world burn before he let one of these men near her.
“Just give us your wallets,” one of the men says, stepping closer, pointing his knife towards Emily’s hands, “And your purse and all your jewellery, and no one will get hurt.”
She looks at her wedding rings, at the bracelet Aaron had bought her for her most recent birthday that had slipped past the cuff of her jacket and was on display, and she shudders out a breath. She nods as she does what she’s asked, removing them with fingers that don’t shake and passing them to Aaron who has taken off his ring too.
Aaron steps forward and puts everything they’d asked for on the ground, taking Emily’s purse too and doing the same. He stands back up straight and makes sure he’s in front of his wife again even though he’s still several paces ahead of her, using his body like it was armour, shielding her from harm like he had been doing with his love for years now.
One of the men steps forward, but freezes at a sound at the other end of the alley, another voice is added to the mix as it breaks through the tension.
“Is everything okay over there?”
___
Her eyes are fixed on the ground, her knee bouncing as she bites at her cuticles, the blank space on her ring finger catching her attention. The skin was paler where they’d been, a band of light skin because the last time she’d had them off for any length of time was when she was pregnant with Alice and her fingers had swollen.
Aaron had bought her a chain to keep them on, a soft smile on his face as he handed it to her, well aware that even though she wasn’t one to attach meaning to physical objects the rings were important to her. Now they were gone, forever tarnished even if they got them back, and the thought of it made her feel sick. Her stomach was churning and she knew her stress was making the baby kick more. It felt like a soft reassurance from within, a reminder from her son or daughter that everything would be okay.
Aaron was in surgery. He’d remained conscious the entire time, desperately reassuring her as if he wasn’t the one who had been stabbed, whilst she yelled at the person who had interrupted them being mugged. Her voice cracking as she asked for an ambulance, her own cell phone in the purse that had been run off with. The doctor who had come out to speak to her had assured her everything was as good as it could be, that they had to control the bleeding, but it was all too familiar. A ghost of the past haunts her as she sits waiting for news, memories of a time when she hadn’t been loved by him yet overwhelming her as their baby shifts under her skin.
“Momma!”
She stands at the sound of her daughter’s voice, fixing a smile on her face as she sees her children come into view. Jack runs at her, his arms tight around her middle as he buries his face in her chest, a tension in his shoulders that is tight enough to break her heart, a vice around it that she can physically feel.
JJ and Will aren’t far behind, Alice in Will’s arms and her tiny fists reaching out for her mother. Emily wraps an arm around Jack and holds him just as fiercely as he is holding her. She shifts him just enough so she can take Alice from Will, settling her on her hip, some of her anxiety lessened by having all of her children within arms reach.
“Emily, what happened?” JJ asks, her hand on her friend's shoulder and squeezing tightly, providing what little comfort that she can.
“We…” she swallows thickly and clears her throat. She knew she hadn’t given many details over the phone, just that Aaron was in the hospital and a request to let the rest of the team know and to bring the kids to the hospital. She wanted to see them, she needed to, and she knew Jack in would rather know when something was happening rather than being kept in the dark.
When she became his mother she promised she’d never lie to him, and it was a promise she intended to keep.
She smiles tightly at her friend and then looks down at Jack, encouraging him to shift enough so he can look at her, “You stay here with Uncle Will, okay?”
He frowns, “Mom-”
“I’ll be right back,” she says, running her hand through his hair, “I just need to speak to Aunt JJ,” she says, seeing that he’s still unsure. She looks at her daughter, the toddler too young to understand what was happening but clearly stressed by the tension around her, her little hand tight in the neckline of Emily’s dress, “Can you sit with your sister and Uncle Will for me? I know Alice likes it when you sing to her.”
She feels bad for playing dirty, for counting on the endless empathy that he had inherited from his father, but he nods and she feels relieved. She kisses his forehead and then guides him over to where Will is now sitting, an understanding look on his face as Jack sits next to him as closely as he can. Emily hands over Alice who resists, her grip on her tightening, and Emily smiles at her before leaning in and kissing her cheek.
“Mommy will be right back, sweet girl,” she says reassuringly. She nods gratefully at Will as he takes Alice from her, already talking in the tone she knows her daughter finds comforting.
She walks several paces away with JJ, still in sight of the kids but far enough away that they can’t hear them.
“We took a shortcut,” Emily says, crossing her arms over her chest, holding herself together because she had no other choice, “It was my idea, I…I didn’t want to walk the long way around.”
“Em,” JJ says fiercely, reaching for her hand and linking it with hers, “This isn’t your fault. It’s the fault of the men who did this.”
Emily nods even though she isn’t sure she believes it, and she blows out a steady breath, “They came from nowhere. I wasn’t paying attention, I wasn’t looking for threats I was…I was just on a date with my husband,” she says, her voice cracking for the first time all evening, giving way under the weight of guilt she couldn’t shake, “They had knives, they took our wallets, my purse. Our rings. Then they got spooked and…one of them stabbed Aaron.”
JJ squeezes her hand again, smiling encouragingly at her, a kindness in her eyes Emily wasn’t sure she’d ever deserved, “Well, Pen is at mine watching the boys and by the time she arrived she’d already blocked all your cards and started tracking your phone. Derek is poised to get the bastards that did this the second she finds them.”
Emily chokes on a laugh, the sound catching in her chest, held in place by the sadness that wouldn’t let it escape. It was strange to think sometimes she’d found her family, her people, in the most unlikely of places. People she had been to hell and back with and for more than once.
“That’s good,” she says, looking over at the kids, smiling softly at the sight of Alice already getting sleepy in Will’s arms.
“Are you okay?” JJ asks and Emily looks back at her, her eyebrows furrowing. JJ rolls her eyes lovingly and points at her bump, “Physically. You and the baby.”
She nods and rests her hand on her belly, “Yeah, we’re fine they didn’t get near us.”
“And you had that confirmed by a medical professional, right?” JJ asks knowingly, raising her eyebrow at her friend whose silence was the only answer she needed, “Okay, we’re getting you looked at-”
“JJ-”
“Look, we both know when Aaron wakes up it’s me he’ll be pissed at if you don’t get checked out,” JJ reasons, tilting her head slightly at her friend, “He is entirely incapable of being pissed at you.”
Emily still feels resistant to it, wanting nothing more than to sit with Alice and Jack until the doctor comes out to update them, but she knows her friend is right. She sighs and nods, “Okay.”
JJ smiles at her and walks back towards Will and the kids, speaking to them but ensuring Will knew she was actually addressing him, “I’m just going to take Mommy to have the baby looked at, okay?” She says softly, her eyes flicking to her husband’s briefly, “And when we come back we’ll have lots of new pictures of the baby for you to look at,” she waits for Jack to nod, Alice already mostly asleep, and she stands back up straight, directly addressing Will this time, “If there are any updates-”
“I’ll make sure you know them, darling,” he says, “I’ve got it here, you go make sure she looks after herself.”
She smiles lovingly at him, reaching out and briefly squeezing his hand, “As always, you get the easy job,” she jokes as she winks. She walks over to Emily and puts her arm around her friend as she leads her to the nurse's station.
“I heard that you know,” Emily grumbles and JJ chuckles.
“Good. I meant you too.”
They are sent by a nurse to an examination room and told a doctor will be with them shortly, a promise made after JJ made no secret of what they did for a living.
Emily slips off her shoes as she gets up onto the bed, her hands on her bump as she blows out a breath, “I really am fine. Baby hasn’t stopped kicking.”
“I know,” JJ says, taking a seat on the chair next to the bed, “But we both know you’d never forgive yourself on the off chance something did go wrong.”
She knows she can’t argue with that, so she doesn’t, simply nodding at her friend as the door opens and a doctor walks in.
“Emily Hotchner?” He says as he looks at his file and Emily nods, smiling tightly at him. She usually felt a spark of joy whenever her married name was used, something that only ever happened in personal circumstances like this, but tonight it was nowhere to be found, “I’m Doctor Covey, I hear you had a bit of a scare this evening?”
She clears her throat, “My husband and I were held at knifepoint, he’s in surgery right now but I didn’t get hurt.”
“Still,” Doctor Covey says as he walks over, tugging the ultrasound machine with him, “It’s always best to get these things checked out,” he says, and Emily doesn’t have to look at JJ to know she’s smiling smugly, “Is this your first?”
“No,” Emily answers, “I have a little girl, she’s three.”
He smiles, “Then you know the drill,” he says, pulling a paper blanket from the dispenser above the bed, “If you could pull your dress up over your bump we’ll have a look at your baby and see what's going on.”
Emily hesitates, looking at her friend as she’s handed the small, paper, covering she’s been given to cover her lap, and JJ laughs.
“Em, it’s nothing I haven’t seen before. You do remember your bachelorette party, right?”
She blushes slightly, her teeth clenched as she narrows her eyes at her friend before she nods, shifting so she can hike her dress up as needed.
“I thought we said we’d never speak about that,” she grumbles, wincing slightly as Doctor Covey puts some of the cold gel on her skin.
“Sorry,” he says, already looking at the screen of the machine, the wand pressed into her belly, “Just a few seconds and we’ll be able to see your baby."
She closes her eyes as she feels anxiety set in. It felt wrong to be doing this without Aaron here. He’d been to every scan, every appointment, making it a point to never miss any of it, and she hated that he was somewhere else in the hospital. Once again being stitched back together because she hadn’t been able to stop him from getting hurt. She smiles softly as she feels JJ grab her hand, and she squeezes back tightly, grateful for the presence of her best friend if she couldn’t have her husband with her.
The relief she feels is palpable when she hears the familiar swoosh of her child’s heartbeat, the sound forcing her eyes open as she looks at the screen. She can’t help but smile at the sight of the baby on the screen, how their hand was up near their face, almost as if they were waving.
“Everything’s okay?” She asks, and Doctor Covey nods smiling as he turns to look at her.
“He’s perfectly healthy, exactly what I would expect to see for how far along you are.”
She freezes, all of her focus shrinking down to one word he’d said, the laugh that had been trapped earlier in her chest finally escaping.
“He?” She asks, her voice full of wonder as she looks at her stomach, “It’s a boy?”
In any other circumstance, she’s sure she’d find the way the doctor’s eyes go wide funny, but it’s the last thing she can think about right now. He stutters as he puts the wand back down.
“I’m so sorry, I should have checked if you knew-”
“No,” she says, smiling as she cuts off the unnecessary apology, “That’s okay…” she turns to look at JJ, unsurprised to find tears shining in her friend's eyes, “A boy. I’m having a boy, JJ.”
It’s joy she didn’t think she’d be able to feel at the moment, and it’s fleeting, immediately replaced by the nagging fear she’d never be able to tell the one person she wanted to tell more than anyone.
___
When Aaron wakes up, the first thing he feels is pain.
It’s familiar, greeting him like an old friend. A burning sensation low in his abdomen pulls him awake, concern for Emily, for his family, overriding anything else. He feels a hand he’d know anywhere squeeze his and he turns his head to look at his wife. She looks tired, worn down by the last several hours, but she’s still beautiful. All of the features he’d loved for much longer than he should have ethereal even in the fluorescent hospital lighting.
“Hi,” she says, keeping her voice low, the tightness in her chest that had taken residence there the moment he was hurt easing slightly.
“Hi,” he repeats, his voice sounding rough even to him. He looks around, “The kids…”
“They’re okay,” she says, smiling softly as she rubs her thumb back and forth over the heel of his hand, “It took some bribing to convince them to go, but they are at JJ and Will’s tonight. Will promised to make them breakfast which did a lot of the heavy lifting.”
He nods, his head swimming as he does so, “You’re okay?” He asks and she smiles and nods.
“I’m fine, baby is too,” she says, “We’re fine,” she says, shifting so she’s sitting on the edge of his bed, placing his hand on her belly so he can feel their son move. “Derek called, they got the guys who did this,” she says, blowing out a breath, “Apparently they had a truckload of things they’ve stolen, they’ve been working those streets for weeks.”
He looks down at their hands and looks at the empty space on her finger, the one on his, and he squeezes her hand, getting her attention so her eyes meet his.
“I’ll buy you new rings,” he says, his voice so serious that she laughs, the sound wet as she shakes her head and wipes stray tears from her cheeks. He knew her so well that it made her ache, aware without her saying something that the meaning the rings held would change after this. That every time she would look at them she’d think of this, of how she could have lost him in a way she had never seen coming.
“We’ll buy new rings,” she corrects and he smiles.
“I’ll put it on the joint account,” he jokes and she laughs again, nodding because she knows there is no point in arguing with him. He looks her up and down, his eyes fixed on her bump, “You're both really okay?”
“JJ made me get a scan, I’m fine,” she says, pressing her lips together to suppress her smile, “He’s fine.”
It takes a second longer than it usually would for her words to register because of the medication in his system, but she sees the moment it does. His eyes going wide, immediately filled with the same joy she’d felt earlier. This time she lets herself enjoy it this time, lets it settle over her now she knew Aaron was okay.
“He?” He asks, the same wonder in his voice that she’d had when she asked the same question, “The baby’s a boy?”
“Yeah,” she says, her smile so wide she swears her cheeks could split with it, “It’s a boy. We’re having another son.”
The joyous laugh that escapes him, the one she thought she might never hear again today, and it eases the last bit of tension that had existed in her chest, the feeling immediately replaced with love for him and their family.

∆ synopsis:  Adrien Agreste had begun dating Marinette Dupain-Cheng, leaving aside his father’s hard hand and traveled to Shanghai to open his new store. Alone in his mansion, he ends up receiving a letter from his former love, he just did not expect that the news was not the most pleasant.
∆   +2000 words
The famous Eiffel Tower was fully illuminated on the French night, as if it were the only star in the sky darker than the feathers of a crow. The Seine was bustling with boats playing jazz and some couples dancing slowly in the open gardens.
Gabriel Agreste was a young punk who worked in a small hippie tent, where he styled clothes to his style. He always had a serious face and rarely gave small smiles, as if there were no reasons in his life to express joy. Or that’s what they thought, after all, when the young [Name] appeared, Agreste could barely contain her smile.
[Name], an aspiring actress and singer, performed small shows at the renowned Moulin Rouge, enchanting everyone who attended. And that’s how the young woman ended up meeting Gabriel, the boy she saw a huge talent as a fashion designer, asking her to prepare her clothes for the presentations, in which she accepted very willingly.
The relationship of both increased and intensified, making the romantic side of the Agreste flourish. Many thought that nothing could separate them. But the fame came to the boy, who began to travel around the world and dress the most internationally renowned, then, on one of these trips, Emilie appeared in the life of the French, who lost the ground when he met her. Just as Hades did with Persephone, Gabriel took Emilie to his world, making [Name] the Minta of the relationship.
Obviously the young woman suffered with the end of their relationship, wishing she had never met him. However, seeing him happy with those who left him radiant as she could not even, made his heart join the shards, overcoming and always cheering for the joy of the couple.
Years later the cycle of a loving relationship began to flow naturally, starting with the engagement and ending with the birth of the first and only child of the most influential couple in France and the world, Adrien Agreste, the child from the eyes of her loving parents.
Unfortunately, not all romance stories have happy endings. Emilie suddenly fell ill and died soon after, leaving her husband and son helpless. Gabriel never accepted the fact of losing his wife, doing everything so that his son had the best education and that nothing was missing him, even if it meant distancing himself and putting an iron hand in that small family.
Adrien no longer accepted being manipulated and living in the torment of his confused mind due to the hard hand of his beloved father. He understood that Gabriel did all that for his own good, after all, he lost his true love too soon. However, everything existed a limit and, unfortunately, Gabriel was crossing the limits.
As soon as the son of the greatest fashion designer in Paris began to relate to Marinette Dupain-Cheng, he decided to take time off and traveled with the girl to Shanghai, using as a pretext the opening of his new store in the other country, leaving his father alone in that huge mansion in central Paris.
And again, Gabriel was alone.
Like most people who find themselves lonely, both mentally and physically, feelings of nostalgia were surrounding the designer. Almost every time he found himself remembering his punk times, where he worked alongside the Seine and dated [Nome]. Maybe if you’d stayed with her, none of that would be happening.
Recalling his former passion of youth, an inspiration for a new collection came to his mind: tight dresses on the bust part and rotated in her skirts, lots of sparkle and the colors vary black, red and gold.
Gabriel could imagine [Nome] being the main model of his new collection. When I closed my eyes, I could see her walking on the catwalks with a black lace corselet that descended to a short skirt full of ruffles detailed in crimson, her beautiful long legs would be covered with a sockpants with drawn flowers and a glowing red feather adornment in their hair. [Name] would be perfect, a real representative of one of the most famous places in Paris.
A few days passed, almost dragged, inside the private studio of the Agreste. On their tables and floors were scattered all the sketches of new clothes. In his untouchable world, in the few moments of peace, he was interrupted by the bodyguard and driver, who came to warn that a letter had arrived, but that, unlike the others, it was not from someone known or an invitation.
At the time, he just ignored and left the card lying on his desk, didn’t even look at who sent it. A few hours later, after an outbreak of shaking a line of a skirt, as soon as he sat down, he took the letter and opened it, making a tear run down the corner of his cheek and falling soon after on the yellowish paper. Gabriel would recognize in a thousand years that handwriting, after all, had not changed anything.
[...]
For my love.
Gabriel, I’ve been thinking about you for years.
Whenever I see you in the tabloids or your son’s picture, I think about writing you, but I lack the courage.
Since he married Emilie I root for his happiness and cried when I heard of her passing. I wonder what you must have gone through with your son, I know it wasn’t easy, but you’re strong.
I’m sending this message because I have a short time left and did not want to die with something choking me for so long. After all, it’s been seconds, minutes, hours, months and years that I’ve been trying to tell you what drowns my heart in a succinct and beautiful way, but what I have to say has not much to shorten.
I, [Name], have always loved you Gabriel and will always love, but I will die. And I swear, on my deathbed, I will only think of you.
Always yours, [Name].
[...]
At the end of the letter, Gabriel was in tears with tears running down his thin cheeks. Many years ago I did not feel fear, pain and anguish as I was feeling at that moment. He reread that letter several times, trying to understand what had happened and how time had escaped between his fingers.
Soon Agreste called his employees and asked them to send the best fabrics to his mansion and a manual sewing machine was quickly installed in his office. He took one of the most beautiful sketches he had there, making the mold and starting the work of cutting and sewing, for the dress that was there designed by himself.
Gabriel still had the measures of [Nome] stored in a small agenda that he kept as a memory of that time. She’d be grateful to have kept that infallible good. When he finished assembling the garment, he asked his driver to take him to the address of that letter, to then find that old passion that made the flames of his heart light up again.
His hands trembled at the moment of squeezing the bell and the cold sweat dripped all over his body. As soon as the door opened, and their eyes crossed with those of [Nome], the only thing they could do at the time was to hug each other, while tears washed away all the negative feelings that were hovering over them.
"My sweet [Name], I never forgot you".
Her hands squeezed tightly the designer’s haute couture and well-done clothes, as if that could prove to her eyes that Gabriel was there of his own free will.
"I always loved you"
She almost couldn’t talk.
[Name] was in front of him. A little thinner, deeper eyes, pale cheeks and dull hair; really, did not lavish the beauty of a healthy person, but the smile proved that it was the bold girl who always loved. Gabriel was always quite sure that the gods loved those who dared and [Nome] was one of these people, but something within her had abandoned her.
Inside the living room of [Nome’s] house were photos of her performances at the Moulin Rouge, auditorium programs she was invited to and even photos of her youth with Gabriel. There were several Affairs in the life of [Nome], but never married or joined things up with someone else, it was always just her and herself.
"There was no other man in my life, Gabriel. You were the only one".
"I feel honored. I brought you a gift".
[Nome] sat in an antique wine-tone armchair and took the large white box with a huge golden bow on top. She opened it slowly, as if her fingers did not have the strength to undo the bow, and then pulled the dress out, making her lose her words.
"As always, it’s perfect!"
She put the dress in front of her and looked at a small round mirror in her living room to see how that dress looked.
"I still had your measurements saved, this dress is unique and there will be no other".
[Name] smiled, then folded the dress and put it back in the box. She took a serious look and continued:
"I’m so sorry for Emilie, I know she was the love of her life".
"My heart is big".
"I know, but I’ll be dead in a few months. Maybe weeks".
Gabriel just turned his face and took a sip of the tea [Nome] served.
"Glad to see you again".
"You’re not gonna die, I’ll pay for whatever treatment it is".
[Nome] stood up and went to him, then hugged him strongly, as he did when he felt that Agreste was down and was returned.
"I already find myself in the palliatives".
Agreste took the hand of his passion and gave a chaste kiss.
"But we just met again".
"The journey ends with the lovers meeting. Do you remember our phrase?"
Gabriel was feeling fragile, brittle and vulnerable, things he hated to feel. If he himself were not the person who akumatized others, he would be transformed at that moment.
"Then stay with me until the end".
The designer then just quietly agreed.
From that moment on, Gabriel stopped staying in his immensely lonely mansion, even freeing Adrien and Marinette from their brotherly concerns. I was thinking a little more about you and [Nome], with which you began to spend more time, taking her for a walk in the places they walked when they were younger.
When they were still a daring punk couple.
Now they were older and with other worries, hair turning gray and less fervor of longer walks. Life did this, gradually shaping each one with their obstacles, so that when they got older, they would enjoy the little time left.
However, Gabriel had to give his arm to twist. No model looked so good in her custom-made clothes as [Nome] and when she stood in front of the city lights, which illuminated the darkest night, there was no work of art that came close.
Like fire in gunpowder, violent joys have violent ends. [Nome] was hospitalized in serious condition, causing the heart of Agreste to break again.
"Why did you fall in love with me?"
Gabriel enjoyed the moments when she was still lucid and not so tired.
"Because you’re my favorite villain".
"Am I a villain?"
"Well, it did".
He combed the hair of [Nome], who could barely lift his arms.
"You know, that attitude and punk look. I always had a preference for villains, I never liked heroes".
"May I ask why?"
She stopped for a while, fixed the oxygen catheter in her nostrils, waited a few seconds and started talking again.
"A hero would sacrifice you for the greater good, but the villain would set the world on fire to have you".
Agreste smiled, because that’s exactly what he did with the miraculous butterfly.
"Besides, the villain has a good heart and an immense love to give to those who really deserve it".
He then sat on the corner of the stretcher and smiled:
"Just know that I would do anything to have more time with you".
"I am happy to have shared more time with you these days".
That afternoon, on his last visit to the intensive care unit, [Nome] had already begun to show improvement in death. Gabriel recognized those signs from afar. Then, before leaving, he gave a small chaste kiss on his forehead and said:
"[Name], I will love you even when everyone dies and no one else remembers us, and we are nothing but stardust wandering through infinite space".
The actress who made her career in the well-known Moulin Rouge could not even answer. I was too tired to say anything, but the smile and a tear managed to express everything I had to thank his former love.
At two and fifty-two in the morning, [Name] died. Gabriel was already expecting the call, had not even slept during the night and organized everything for the last farewell of his first love.
Just as [Nome] had said, Gabriel would put the world down to bring Emilie and her back again. No matter the timelines or the sacrifices, he would bring his loves to life again.

What literature do you like?
I love literature in general, whether it be prose or poetry or plays, and I've always had a taste for the 19th century classics (especially those dark and moody novels); they made me acknowledge the inevitability of pain and suffering. Somewhat. For hundreds of years, writing stories seemed to be the most popular way of conveying all those emotions. But of course, classical novelists are not all about expressing the pain their characters had to endure; they provide insight on the lives of people in the past through their characters. The common theme of pain and suffering in those novels make for better character development, and sometimes even life-changing lessons, and that's the best part.
Sorry if that seemed unrelated. And obvious.
Here are some of my favourite novels:
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (my absolute favourite, the ending is so depressingly poetic)
"I have not broken your heart - you have broken it; and in breaking it, you have broken mine." - Heathcliff to Catherine
- Shirley by Charlotte Brontë (seemed slightly dull at first but I eventually learned the hardships that women face in love and marriage back then)
- Middlemarch by George Eliot (women writers are the best)
- Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
- Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
- Les Misérables by Victor Hugo (the original French version is so beautifully written)
- Notre-Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo
I could list so much more, and these are just the most popular ones, but my reply is getting more lengthy than it should.
As for the exquisite art of poetry, Emily Brontë, Emily Dickinson, and Shakespeare wrote the best poems, in my humble opinion.
Thank you for this question, and I hope you have a wonderful day or night. ♡

What's wrong with Emily in Paris?
Long Story Short: It was so disgustingly xenophobic and condenscending that it ended up summoning the wrath of both french and ukranian governments on Netflix's ass.
It's got four seasons, and I've only watched like, two of them, and it was already enough for me to drop it.
