Next month is the annual exhibitor showcase Cinemacon where movie studios tout their wares for the very anxious theater owners.
Tumblr media
It has already been announced that Sony is sitting this year out, so no info on VENOM 3: THE LAST DANCE, to be released October 25, 2024.
Tumblr media
While I assume there will be some changes to the lineup, so far it is shaping up to be:
OPENING DAY: International Day features a screening of Universal 80s series remake THE FALL GUY starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who has said in a recent interview that it is a small role) ; directed by David Leitch (BULLET TRAIN, DEADPOOL 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DAY ONE: WB pulls up with their presentation "The Big Picture". It will be the first Cinemacon for James Gunn in his position as Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios.
I expect a song and dance from Gunn about how awesome sauce the new DC film universe will be
I'll believe it when I see it.
Sure to tease SUPERMAN LEGACY which stars David Corenswet as the title character, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Tumblr media
JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUCE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MORE STUDIO OFFERINGS
Also, FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
, the supernatural horror film THE WATCHERS, directed and written by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night
Tumblr media
, M. Night Shymalan's TRAP starring Josh Hartnett, ALTO KNIGHTS with Robert DeNiro playing a dual role.
Certainly don't expect anything to hear about THE BATMAN sequel other than it won't shoot until 2025. There has been no reason provided, but some say there isn't even a script, others say it was because there were no soundstages available in London to shoot this year.
DAY TWO: ANGEL STUDIOS - The outfit behind SOUND OF FREEDOM.
I suspect they will tease SIGHT starring Greg Kinnear and BONHOEFFER (aka GOD'S SPY) about German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, starring August Diehl, Flula Borg and Clarke Peters.
LIONSGATE: I suspect they will tease Guy Ritchie's THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE starring a pick-a-mix of men for all tastes - Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding and Hero Fiennes Tiffins
Tumblr media
; the action-thriller BOY KILLS WORLD fronted by Bill Skarsgård and costarring Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji (who is working like mad), Famke Janssen and Isaiah Mustafa.
Tumblr media
Surely, another Bill Skarsgård film THE CROW with fka Twigs
Tumblr media
; THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1, which is the third film in the franchise - doing a bit of FAST AND THE FURIOUS mathing. It stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guittierez and Gabriel Basso
At long last the BALLERINA has pliete into the spotlight. This JOHN WICK spinoff stars Ana De Armas, with Anjelica Huston reprising her role from JOHN WICK 2. It's direct by Len Wiseman who directed the UNDERWORLD films starring his ex-wife Kate Beckinsale.
BORDERLANDS, an action-comedy based on the game, brought to the screen by Eli Roth. Starring Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett and Édgar Ramírez, amongst others.
Tumblr media
and WHITE BIRD, which is in the same universe as the excellent children geared film WONDER. It was due to come out in 2023 but was pushed back due to the actors strike.
Tumblr media
UNIVERSAL / FOCUS FEATURES: I suspect teases for Dev Patel's directorial debut MONKEY MAN. The film was originally slated to go to Netflix but Jordan Peele, under his Monkey Paw shingle, bought it and took it to Universal so it could have a theatrical release. *Granted, Netflix does a theatrical release for most of their films in certain markets, but I get Peele's rationale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their Monsters Universe theatrical idea didn't work, but Universal has realized there is more than one way to skin a cat. They are creating a Universal Monsters themed area at their parks and their monster/horror film ABIGAIL is a re-imaging of DRACULA'S DAUGHTER. It stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens and features Angus Cloud in one of his last roles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE FALL GUY most definitely will have a place. Same with THE BIKERIDERS (with Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, etc.), which was a 20th Century (Disney owned) Film, and even though it was the first major film out the gate ahead of Oscars/Golden Globes' FYC season with a screening and Q&A held in L.A., the studio purposely stalled the engine and towed it off their schedule. It will now be distributed by Focus Features in the U.S., and Universal, internationally.
Tumblr media
Other possible teases? DESPICABLE ME 4, TWISTERS, the standalone sequel to the 90s film TWISTERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
, horror film SPEAK NO EVIL starring James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis
Tumblr media
, WICKED: PART ONE and Sir Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR 2 with Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There will also be a surprise screening; studio unknown.
DAY THREE: PARAMOUNT: Expected: the mixed live-action and animated comedy IF starring Ryan Reynolds, written/directed and produced by John Krasinski.
Tumblr media
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, GLADIATOR 2 (though this is a co-production with Universal, so maybe Uni will tout it), SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3, the unending production that is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8,
WALT DISNEY: Possible: THE FIRST OMEN, KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
Tumblr media
, MOANA 2, INSIDE OUT 2, DEADPOOL 3, ALIEN: ROMULUS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD and SNOW WHITE.
CinemaCon always closes out with their awards (which always ties into an upcoming release. Funny how that works.
So far the honourees are:
Star of the Year - Lupita Nyong'o (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
Breakthrough Performer of the Year - Joseph Quinn (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
Tumblr media
CinemaCon Vanguard Award - Amy Poehler (INSIDE OUT 2)
Director of the Year - Shawn Levy (DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE)

The Rules
1: unless tagged #spoilers, any novel I post will not contain plot spoilers but may contain vibe spoilers or allusion to events; I may talk about what the story is About that the dust jacket or my own synopsis may not make obvious but I won't tell you who killed somebody or a cool twist
2: I'd I post a book here it is because I finished it and liked it, OR I finished it and need to untangle why I didn't. Novels I simply don't enjoy I don't finish anymore, as a rule, but I may break it if something about it compels me to finish it. I've only had to do it twice in the last year, but both novels were so antithetical to my enjoyment that it made me actually feel mad about trying to read them.
3: I'm not gonna rate them. I don't like ratings systems, I'm not gonna try to hammer something into a number, and forcing it is just going to be dumb. I did think about making a 7 point criteria list that if a novel met it I would declare perfect, but that's too much work. Maybe in a lull of books or something I'll hammer one out. If I do, one point will be "did it contain a character wielding a sword flicking the blood from their blade before sheathing it?"
4: no rereads. I have a bad habit of returning to old books series when I have so many books that interest me that I'd like to break, so for 2024 unless I need to for something wild like a series entry I'm not expecting, no rereads.
5: There's gonna be some nonfiction in here. I've got a couple of things at the top of my to-read list that are political or social in nature, but if you're following me or reading these you probably can attune yourself to my political stances to know what's up pretty quickly. That said, I'm gonna talk about social shit occasionally even outside of those, so idk if that's a big deal but, yknow.
6: fuck it, we ball

Angsty idea to follow up the previous one- imagine Jack's Dad Isaiah being just like him. Both of them being nerdy and loud troublemakers- both of them having compassionate hearts with unflinching iron wills. Imagine Isaiah calling Jack 'starlight' as an affectionate nickname- but it also serves as symbolism for stars shining and being a guiding light even long after they're dead.
Imagine how he must've felt when his father suddenly collapsed and started having a heart attack in front of him. Imagine how loud the ambulance sirens must've felt in his ears as he watched his own blood- his entire world- die right in front of him.
But they moved... that should've saved him. They moved from Brooklyn all the way out to Nevada to find a better hospital for him- that should've saved him!
Right...?
Jack was only ten.
And his only solace was in comic books- in fantasy and escapism and idolizing his superheroes. There's no friends he has to take care of him- he's a social outcast- so he has to do it himself. He even builds his drone companion Emily just so he can have something to love again.
But his father's legacy lives on through him- in the way he gives those around him genuine connection through his kindness and, in turn, encourages them to be better.
Jack never stops repeating that creed to himself, never stops searching for the love that his father gave him when he was still there, never stopped bettering the world through the warmth and kindness that he inherited. "My starlight is not gone. He lives on within me."

anyways here's a hot take about sharon's ending in fatws ( which, to preface, i hate, so im not justifying it )
we would've never gotten here if the mcu fandom hadn't pushed for it so much, specifically peggy stans and hayley atwell / hayley atwell stans.
to clarify, you all spent years saying that peggy wasn't just steve's love interest, that steve needed to move on, etc, but when steve moved on to sharon ( who btw is his ACTUAL soulmate and has been for 60+ years, not miss " emotionally abusive bigot " 616 peggy carter ), you turned it into a " steve is PEGGY'S man " / " PEGGY is steve's girl " argument. it was y'all that diminished her to that, AND you diminished sharon to that in the process ( because mind you, in terms of things canon to the mcu anymore, sharon did a hell of a lot more in ws + cw than peggy did in tfa, especially for steve ).
you harassed emily vancamp, you signed petitions to get sharon written out of the mcu, etc. YOU GUYS and *only* you guys, made it clear that you didn't want steve to be with anyone if it wasn't peggy or bucky. so then they sent steve back to peggy ( because let's be real, disney was NEVER going through o make stucky canon ) and then all of you complained that " it took away peggy's choice / authority / story / arc / etc ". YOU DID THAT TO HER.
you told marvel that the one person they were trying to set steve up with wasn't good enough, especially compared to peggy, so they gave you what you wanted and then you complained about it like brats because it wasn't ACTUALLY what you wanted, you just wanted to hate on sharon because she wasn't peggy or natasha, as if multiple badass shield agent women can't coexist.
after civil war, the rise of sharon hate grew exponentially with people claiming she MUST be a villain, or that she " feels " evil, or that she was clearly manipulating everything. and again, you harassed emily vancamp and you encouraged hayley atwell's vile behavior with cheers and laughter, and it got so far that they literally had to pull sharon and evc from the films for *five years.*
and now she's back. and again, because of the narrative that you guys perpetuated - that she was evil, a villain, manipulating everyone around her - that's exactly what marvel did. you said she was just a love interest so they did the opposite. and you STILL hate her. emily vancamp is STILL being harassed over the role. and when i say it's majority peggy fans, it is, because the only people i EVER see talking about how terrible sharon is are ones saying she " doesn't live up to queen peggy's legacy ". and while this might not be all peggy fans, im sure some of you are wonderful, it is a whole lot of you.
and now, after getting what you wanted AGAIN, you're complaining about how it " ruins peggy's legacy ". hate to break it to you miss peggy carter was not a good person, no better than sharon as the powerbroker. she hired multiple hydra agents into her organization for operation paperclip ( including zola who was skull's literal right hand man ), gave them completely free range and was oblivious enough in her own organization to let that run free. which means she either allowed it to happen or was an incompetent enough leader that it was able to.
second issue? the fact that she was the director of shield the ENTIRE time isaiah and that group of black men were being tested on, tortured, killed, beaten, and anything else that happened. shield was the most influential government establishment in the mcu pre - winter soldier, not to mention the fact that they're generally known for handling enhanced beings. there's ZERO POSSIBLE WAY she did not know about what was happening. which means she was, again, either an incompetent leader or a racist ( like she is in the comics ). because him being in prison for 30 years means it had to have been a prison that could contain a super soldier, could test competently on super soldiers, and had the ability to erase everything about him. *aka shield.* so either ALL OF THAT happened right under her nose or she stood back and let them do that to him.
sharon didn't ruin peggy's legacy. peggy didn't have a legacy being a good person to begin with. which is FINE because she's a government agent, but it's absolutely NO excuse to use her " golden accomplishments " to justify your vile treatment of sharon carter and it never has been.

A Review of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)”
Tumblr media
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TFATWS) is the next in Marvel Disney+ TV shows. While the previous show, WandaVision, did something new with the Superhero genre, TFATWS aims to bring the Captain America movie style to a TV show format. The premise is "Six months after being handed the mantle of Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) teams up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) in a worldwide adventure that tests their abilities and their patience". So does this series live up to the mantle or drops the "shield" completely?
Tumblr media
Firstly, I like the idea of the series. Having a series focused on Sam and Bucky who for the most part in the MCU movies are just Captain America sidekicks as the main focus for the show is great. Also having the series revolve around the legacy of the shield and Captain America is an interesting idea. They also explore interesting themes such as racism, refugees and corrupt governments while still retaining the core elements of the MCU movies.
Tumblr media
Sam is the main focus in the show and his struggle with the legacy and the responsibility of the shield is a great story. Throughout the show we see him explore what it means for a black person to take up the mantle and what Captain America means to the people. By the final episode, seeing Sam fully come into terms with his role is very fulfilling. Bucky is the secondary protagonist and he is struggling with his past as the Winter Soldier and a world without his best friend Steve. There is an exploration of his trauma and him trying to do right to all the victims of his past which is a nice story for his character. By the final episode, he finally knows what he needs to do and it's quite sad yet satisfying. The best part of the show is the banter between these 2 and their buddy cop antics are absolute highlights in the series.
Tumblr media
Another highlight in this series is John Walker played magnificently by Wyatt Russell. He is the new Captain America that is chosen by the government. Wyatt manages to perfectly make him hateable and that is quite the testament to Wyatt's performance. He isn't an outright villain though and they do give him a fair amount of sympathetic qualities with a character arc of sort for him as well. Another great support character is Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) who has some great moments that add some weight to Sam's story. Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) returns from Captain America Civil War as a sort of wildcard for Sam and Bucky. His return is great as we get to see a more fun side to him while still being quite the manipulator. His interactions with both Sam and Bucky add another level of tension to the dynamic. Additionally, he wears his iconic costume from the comics which is nice even though it doesn't make much sense for him to do so. Daniel Bruhl single-handedly stole every scene he was in thanks to his amazing performance.
Tumblr media
The cinematography by P.J. Dillon feels very "movie like" and I didn't get the TV show feeling when watching the series. There are some parts in the series where the visuals are quite gorgeous with an example being episode 3 where they are in Madripoor. Henry Jackman who scored Captain America Winter Soldier and Civil War returns to score and while none of the soundtracks is memorable, it does a good job in representing the scene without being overly distracting. There are great action scenes that utilize the power of the super soldiers and the flying suit of Falcon. Some fights are quite brutal and very memorable.
Tumblr media
Nevertheless, I have some issues with this series and the biggest one being the slow pacing. There are a lot of moments where it feels like not much story progression is occurring. This is most noticeable in episode 5 where the majority of the episode is just a lot of sitting around. For a series that is only 6 episodes, it is quite weird that it can still drag like this. There is also a lot of moments during the series where it seems to be more focused on building future stories which are mildly distracting from the main story. The final episode also handles John's final story arc in a really weird way that just feels completely sudden and it also contains a very cringe resolution that doesn't fit the series.
Tumblr media
I also have an issue with the main villain Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman) who is the leader of an anti-patriotism group the Flag Smashers who contains some members with super-soldier serum. The motive of the group is fine and understandable as they want to have open national borders. The problem is the leader of the group Karli is just not believable. She is extremely bratty and murder crazed that I do not understand how people look up to her. The actress Erin is okay but her performance is constantly outweighed by the better antagonist of John Walker and everyone else. It also baffles me how they are somehow able to fight on par with Bucky when he has literal assassin, military training and a vibranium arm but okay. Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) returns but I have mixed feelings about her. She is a lot darker as a character and doesn't resemble who she was in the Captain America movies which are mildly jarring. Her still being on the run from the government despite all the other Cap supporters being pardon makes no logical sense. Despite being blipped, she is also somehow able to build a massive fortune and completely change her personality doesn't feel believable. However, she is a lot more interesting than just being Peggy 2.0 so there is that.
Tumblr media
Overall, the series doesn't land all its shots but it certainly delivers on the epic scope you expect from Marvel. It has mature social commentary, hilarious moments, thrilling action sequences and great chemistry between Anthony and Sebastian that just meshes together like a charm. I'm interested in what this series leads to whether it's another Marvel movie or a second season and I want to see more of Sam and Bucky in the future.

Local Woman Gives Birth to Baby #15...Just in Time for Son’s Wedding
Elsa Bjergsen, Reporter
Windenburg Times-Gazette
You could say local parents Stetson and Ingrid Gorman, 47 and 41 respectively, have a lot on their plates. The pair have fifteen children, the youngest of whom was born just two weeks before his oldest brother’s wedding.
Tumblr media
Ingrid with baby #15, Peyton Prosperity.
Tumblr media
The Gorman family, in age order: Stetson Gorman (47), Ingrid Gorman (41), Ezekiel Luther Gorman (21), Josiah Thomas Gorman (19), Hope Geraldine Gorman (18), Isaiah Stetson Gorman (16), Katlynn Marie Gorman (15), John Brice Gorman (13), Camden Gorman (11), Evangeline Gorman (11), Helen Praise Gorman (9), Patience Grace Gorman (8), Landyn Gorman (6), Rylee Michelle Gorman (4), Tobias Bob Gorman (3), James Jeremiah Gorman (2), Peyton Prosperity Gorman (5 months). Ingrid is about eight weeks along with baby boy Gorman (#16), who they plan to name Andrew Christian.
The Gorman family after baby #15. Eagle-eyed viewers might notice that Ingrid Gorman is expecting #16!
“My doctor is amazed that I’m expecting again,” said Ingrid during an interview in her Windenburg home. “Once I have this sweet blessing--we’re going to call him Andrew Christian--I’ll have only three days until I age up and become an elder. I may have a chance of one additional pregnancy. We’re praying on it!”
Tumblr media
Many local residents have already heard of this fecund family. Ingrid is the daughter of Baptist preacher Luther Snyder and his wife, Katlyn. Luther passed away two years ago, and his wife died a few months later, but they have left quite a legacy in their wake.
Tumblr media
The Snyder family 15 years ago, with children Rowan (then 14), Leah (then 11), Brenna (then 7), MacKenna (age 4), and Noah (age 3). At this point, Ingrid was 26 and pregnant with her fourth child. Thaddeus (24) and Nathaniel (22) had already married, and twins Elias and Kason (both 18), had recently moved out to start a business. Luther and Katlyn were 50 and 44, respectively. They married when Katlyn was 18. The pair experienced several miscarriages during their longer gaps between children.
Tumblr media
There’s his firstborn son, Thaddeus, 40, who took over his job as a pastor at Bible Baptist Church. Thaddeus’ wife Chelsie, 38, is currently pregnant with twin boys--their seventh and eighth children.
Tumblr media
Left to right: Thaddeus Snyder, Chelsie Snyder, Rose Snyder, Lizzie Snyder, Janet Snyder. Second row: Beth Snyder, Allyson Snyder, Samson Snyder
Then there’s Nathaniel Snyder and his wife Ruthie Park-Snyder, who have three children. Nathaniel is the head of general surgery and Windenburg Hospital, and Ruthie is well-known for her career as an an astronaut. They have three children.
Tumblr media
Nathaniel and Ruthie’s family: Nathaniel, Ruthie, Amelia, William, and Maisie.
Luther and Katlyn also share seven more children, five of whom are married, but nobody’s brood even approaches Ingrid’s.
“I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a homemaker and homeschool my children,” Ingrid noted as she played with her children at the Gorman family home. “I feel that this is a woman’s greatest calling, and the ability to have children is a blessing from God. My husband and I would never do anything to prevent that!”
Tumblr media
A Gorman family photo. Daughter Helen Praise is wearing a “swim dress” to comply with the family’s modesty rules.
Allowing their daughter, Evangeline, to join the Scouts with two of their brothers was a huge step for the couple. The couple agreed after learning that Terrence Moore, father of Emily Moore Gorman, led a local Scout troop consistent with their values--even though the girls wear shorts!
Tumblr media
Landyn Gorman, 8, Evangeline Gorman, 11, and Camden Gorman, 11, in a recent photo.
Ingrid’s oldest child, Ezekiel Gorman, 21, just married Emily Anne Moore, 20. All of Gorman’s siblings were in attendance, and surely appreciated the chance to socialize with other families that share their values. The wedding took place at the Bible Baptist Church in Windenburg, where Luther was originally pastor.

“Courting is definitely unusual nowadays,” said Hope Geraldine Gorman, Stetson and Ingrid’s oldest daughter, who just turned eighteen. “But our parents have raised us with it, because it provides protection for a young person’s heart. It guards their heart until they are ready for marriage.”
“The whole point is physical and emotional purity,” chimed in Katlynn Gorman, age 15, named (with an extra n) for her grandmother. “We don’t want to give away pieces of ourselves before we reach the altar, because then we are not giving our spouse everything. That’s why we don’t kiss before marriage.”
Tumblr media
From left to right: Katlynn Gorman (15), Helen Praise Gorman (9), Hope Geraldine Gorman (18).
The Gormans discourage their children from even holding hands until engagement, and all dates up until marriage must be closely supervised by family members. There are also strict modesty rules for both boys and girls.
“Well, we always have our knees covered, and our bellies and most other parts besides hands and feet and neck and head,” explained one-half of the Gorman’s only set of twins, Evangeline Gorman, 11. “Sometimes knees and parts of arms can show for special occasions we check with Mama and Dad.”
Tumblr media
From left to right: Rylee Michelle Gorman (4), Camden Gorman (11), and Evangeline Gorman (11).
“That includes boys,” explains Evangeline’s twin brother, Camden. “Mama prefers for us not to wear jeans and to keep our hair neat and short. It’s about respect for ourselves and others.”
“If we cause lust in others, that is a sin on our part,” remarked Katlynn. “We don’t want to stir up desires and cause our fellow Christians to stumble. That’s why we dressed modestly and court.”
Tumblr media
A (supervised) courtship date between Ezekiel and his new bride, Emily. In lieu of physical contact, the lovebirds exchanged gifts.
“My oldest children have always been a fantastic example for the younger ones. It’s the way we keep this house running, especially homeschool,” Ingrid explains during our interview. “I couldn’t do anything without them, especially my oldest girls Hope and Katlynn. I was the oldest girl in my family, and I learned so many lessons about being a good wife and mother. I pray my girls are doing the same--my greatest joy is to see them living for righteousness.

While Stetson and Ingrid are confident in their choices, not all Windenburg residents are supportive.
“I knew Luther Snyder, and he was a very prejudiced man,” remarked local resident Lucas Munch. “And his poor eldest daughter was raising those children.”
Another local, Luna Villareal, raised similar concerns. “This lifestyle seems extreme,” she noted. “And I doubt those children all get the individual attention they need.”
Still, the Gorman family is joyful.
“We are so thrilled to see our family growing and eagerly anticipating a new season of life as grandparents,” Stetson remarked during our final interview in the kitchen of their new home, which they bought shortly after the birth of their fifteenth baby. “We are confident that our lifestyle is righteous in the eyes of the Lord, and that’s all that matters to us.”

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 2: New Marvel Characters Explained
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains The Falcon and the Winter Soldier spoilers.
While there are still a number of tantalizing missing credits at the end of Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2, including a placeholder for Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, we do get to meet (and in one instance, hear about) some familiar characters from Marvel Comics who make their MCU debut in episode 2 of the Disney+ series.
If you’re not overly familiar with their comics-based origins, though, you might not be too sure about the backstory of our new The Falcon and the Winter Soldier players, or what impact their introduction may have on the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.
Never fear, we’re here to help!
Isaiah Bradley – Captain America
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier examines the legacy of Captain America from numerous angles. In Marvel Comics, Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, John Walker, and Isaiah Bradley all suited up as Cap at various points, so the appearance of Carl Lumbly as Bradley marks yet another historic notch in the story of Captain America.
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2, Bucky (Sebastian Stan) drags Sam (Anthony Mackie) along to Isaiah Bradley’s humble home during their investigation into where the Flag-Smashers might be getting their Super Soldier Serum. Bucky once encountered Bradley decades ago in Goyang, South Korea when he was acting as HYDRA’s Winter Soldier, and realized that Bradley had been imbued with super strength, but kept it secret after Bradley ended up being a worthy match – destroying half of Bucky’s bionic arm in their face-off. Bradley is less than happy to see Bucky re-emerge asking for information, telling Sam and Bucky to get out of his house and leave him alone.
Bradley’s basic story in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is fairly similar to the one in the comics, where he was just one of 300 African-American soldiers who were experimented on in an attempt to reformulate the Super Soldier Serum. Of those 300 soldiers, Bradley was the only one to make it through, and went on to suit up as Captain America, choosing to fight in WWII against the wishes of the military. He eventually spent 17 years behind bars for treason, and his past as Cap was kept under wraps.
Lemar Hoskins – Battlestar
We also meet John Walker’s sidekick in episode 2. Lemar Hoskins (Cle Bennett) has been enlisted to help the new Captain America track down bad guys for the US government following the disappearance of Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson’s decision to pass up the Cap mantle. Hoskins fights at Walker’s side under the codename “Battlestar” but is quickly in trouble during a tussle with the Flag-Smashers and their super strength.
Hoskins originally made his debut in Mark Gruenwald’s Captain America #323 as an Army pal of Walker’s who also got his super strength from the Power Broker (more on him in a bit) and went on to become a professional wrestler in Marvel’s Unlimited Class Wrestling circuit. Much like in the series, Hoskins then fought alongside Walker when he was Captain America, first as the “new Bucky” and later as Battlestar.
Elijah Bradley – Patriot
We meet Eli Bradley, Isaiah’s grandson, when he answers the door to Sam and Bucky in episode 2. At first denying any knowledge of his grandfather, he eventually lets them inside after Bucky reveals his 1950s connection to Isaiah. We don’t get any hints that Eli will be of any importance to the MCU’s ongoing story during his introduction in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but it’s very likely that he’ll be back!
Eli is a fairly new character in the pages of Marvel Comics, having arrived on the scene in the 2005 Young Avengers run from Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung at a time when the older Avengers had disbanded. In the comics, Eli initially claims to have been blessed with Super Soldier Serum, but we later find out that this isn’t true. He does eventually get a transfusion of Isaiah’s blood, however, granting him a flow of the serum.
This young man could certainly show up in the MCU’s version of Young Avengers if Marvel decides to go down that road (and given the introduction of two other key Young Avengers on WandaVision with Wanda’s kids, Wiccan and Speed, and the impending introduction of Kate Bishop on Hawkeye that seems like a real possibility. He could be a key member of that team as his alter ego, Patriot.
Power Broker
In episode 2, we find out that the Flag-Smashers may have got their superhuman strength via a shadowy figure known as the Power Broker. This is the first mention of the Marvel Comics villain in the MCU, but it looks like he will be a major player in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Yep, it appears Marvel has been hiding a secret guest star in the run up to the series’ debut, one who will surely fill an empty slot in the end credits soon enough!
We don’t know much about this version of the Power Broker yet, only that he is feared by those who deign to cross him, but in the comics there are two versions of the Power Broker to draw from.
There’s the Curtiss Jackson Power Broker, who founded a company that blessed paying customers with superhuman strength – for a price – and who was also responsible for both John Walker and Lemar Hoskins getting their powers. He played a key role in the Mark Gruenwald-penned Captain America comics that have inspired much of this show. Then there’s Dan Slott and Christos N. Gage’s more modern version of Power Broker, who has a much more mysterious past. It’s possible that in true MCU fashion, the version we meet on screen will be a blend of both.
Right now, Walker and Hoskins are keen to assume their new superhero roles as Captain America and Battlestar, but they don’t quite have what it takes to dominate their opponents yet. It seems the Power Broker may be able to give them the extra strength they need to do the same kind of superhuman job as Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes …with some added Super Soldier Serum.
Will Walker and Hoskins incur the debt in future episodes?

#ThrillerLiveCloses #ApprovedByMJon2009
“Right now our world has been turned upside down, with a pandemic that is changing our way of life. It is affecting us all, financially, emotionally and socially. For me it has resulted in THRILLER LIVE closing prematurely (and permanently) in the West End, as all theatres around the country have been shut, in the public’s best interest. Myself and the rest of the team totally understand and respect that we must all practice social distancing, working together to beat this virus. But yesterday was a very sad day as I joined the cast, crew and other creatives at the Lyric Theatre for one last time. We wanted to come together to say goodbye to each other at the theatre that had become our home for the past 11-years. Ironically we were just two more performances away from becoming the 11th longest ever running show in the West End. Still to be 12th, and the longest ever running show at the Lyric Theatre is an incredible achievement. Another thing the coronavirus has shown us is that we never know what is around the corner and we shouldn’t take what we have for granted. Through hard times, we get to see what matters most and what we really need to value.
One of our cast members said that leaving the Lyric Theatre was like losing a loving partner. And that is partly true, in that sometimes you don’t appreciate what you have until it is gone. But I am sure that each and every one of the Thriller Live cast and crew will go on to great new ventures, just as previous associates have. It’s been an INCREDIBLE journey which has formed great friendships, partnerships and even relationships with babies to boot! For me it seems that things have gone full circle. For it was 30 years ago today (20th March 1990) when I first met the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and he inspired me to see a world of endless possibilities. He showed me humility, kindness and a laughter like I’d never heard before.
We were at Record One Studios where he was free and at his creative best, producing the ‘Dangerous’ album. Watching a genius at work, who since the age of 5 had been perfecting his craft to become the world’s greatest ever entertainer was a true privilege. And then came an invitation to lunch at Neverland. That was the most memorable weekend ever. I’d never seen a landscape and home so beautiful. A place where Michael could dream peacefully, and one could lose themselves in magical abandonment. Which I did playing on the arcades, riding on the funfair and watching movies in the theatre. Just before I left, as I walked out the oak door, Michael said come back anytime. And I did, at least once a year - return to Neverland, as did many lucky fans, and various charitable organisations that Michael opened his doors for, because he loved to give, help and see others happy. That was the Michael Jackson I knew - a humble, innocent soul, who also happened to be one of the greatest artists of all time. There are many, many other stories that I have shared over the years, and fans and friends will know. Each one of them still as colourful in my mind now as it was when I first lived them. I thank Michael for those memories, and even though he is gone, it has never felt like a goodbye.
From all of us at “Thriller Live”, we want to Thank everyone who came to see the Show in the West End. We are Grateful that we could keep Michael’s Legacy and Music alive through the production and cá look forward to continuing touring the world in years to come. Now here follows a long, long list of thanks to just a few of the many people who made the show possible in the West End. There has been literally hundreds of people involved on and off the stage, so apologies that I can’t list everyone, but each of you are just as important in making this show a special part of West End history ! Producers Paul Walden & Derek Nicol, Mark Strange – General Manager, Ginette Sinnott – Head of Marketing, and everyone else at Flying Music (past and present) – thank you for believing in the show and all you have done to make it a worldwide success.
•Gary Lloyd our amazing Director & Choreographer. I could write a book about his character and talent, so please go read his own ! John Maher our meticulous Musical Director extraordinaire. • Every single band member past and present including Damien Cooper, Oliver Latka, Ryan Alex Farmery, Adam Kovacs and Mike Bradley - the greatest compliment you can pay these guys, is that some audience members still ask if the show is ‘live’. Yes! Applause when screen goes back and our musicians are revealed ! • Yasmin Yazdi, Jo Dyce, Rose Wild and Aisling Duffy – our fierce Resident Directors and Assistant Choreographers whom over the years have put hundreds of cast members through their paces. • Sharon Speirs and Caroline Stroud, our two long running and outstanding Company Managers over the past 11-years. And thank you to others who stepped in. • Nigel Catmur – Lighting Designer, Chris Whybrow – Sound Designer, Jonathan Park – Set Designer, Rob Jones and Catherine Teatum – Costume Designers – thank you for making this show look and sound so great ! • Our hard-working crew – Dawn Harvey, Paul Bond, Glenn Jenkins, Sophie Kemp, Kelvin White, Bill Dimeo, Matthew Giles, Alice Johson, Sara Markwick, Gemma Tucker, Melissa Cooke, Karli Can Heerden, Inca Jaackson, Rosie Woods and Jo Conlon – thank you for being there every day and making the show possible. • Not forgetting dozens of former crew members from Becky Potts and Jessica Plews to Craig and Kate Garratt and many, many more. • A big shout out to Haydon Eshun and John Moabi, our longest running West End cast members. These two guys are stage legends, whose performances did Michael proud every single night. • Respect to Kevin Wilson PR for keeping our name up in lights and doing it always with the utmost enthusiasm. • Thank you to Debbie O'Brien Casting – the talent we have seen over the years has been incredible including Zoe Birkett, Hayley Evetts, Maria Lawson, Samantha Johnson Carter, Cleopatra Madonna, Britt Quentin, Alex Buchanan, Jerome Singer, Trenyce Cobbins, David Jordan, MiG Ayesa and so many more outstanding vocalists ! • We have also been blessed with hundreds of amazing dancers since 2006 and through to the end of this West End run. They, with the singers and musicians are the life blood of the show, which relies, not on massive production, but pure heart and soul to deliver the energy, authenticity and chemistry that was part of Michael Jackson. • Thank you Nica Burns at Nimax for giving us a home for 11-years, and all the staff at the Lyric Theatre for looking after us, and over 2 million audience members throughout the years. • Massive appreciation to Kerys Nathan, our original Director & Choreographer from 2006-2008. You’ll always be a part of the show. • Thank you to every single cast member from the original West End cast featuring Ben Forster, Roger Wright, Denise Pearson, Ricko Baird, Kieran Alleyne, Layton Williams (OFFICIAL), Sterling Williams, Lewis Davies, Kamilah Beckles, Christabelle Field, Elliot James, Earl Perkins, Emily Rumbles, Dannielle Rothman, Sean Williams, Ashton Russell, Ross Sands and Jordan Darrell, to our last with – Wayne Anthony-Cole, Vivienne Ekwulugo, David Julien, Miles Anthony, Florivaldo Mossi, Lauren Gore, Filippo Coffano, Leslie Garcia Brown, Deavion Brown, David Devyne, Mitchell Eley, Ike Fallon, Eliza Hart, Gabriela Hernandez, Amelia-Annie Layng, Arnold Mabhena, Rishard-Kyro Nelson, Oskarina O'Sullivan , Shola B Riley, Triple Calz, Cannon Hay, Isaiah Mason, Ishaan Raithatha and Messiah Unusudimi. • To everyone on our suspended touring production, and all those before which has seen us visit over 34 different countries, thank you, thank you and thank you again. We will see each other hopefully soon as we continue this journey. Until then stay safe, and don't eat too many pies, there is only one costume budget. •Apologies too many not named above, some whom I greatly admire and some whom I am proud to now call friends, you are all in my thoughts.
Lastly, and most importantly – thank you to MICHAEL JACKSON ! “THRILLER LIVE” is your Music, your Artistry and your Magic ! Thank you for your Inspiration , Love and Humanity . 🙏🏼
Dreams do come true — Adrian Grant .

Inspired by the hilarious conversation started by @celluloiddreams and @iwantyoutochooseme, here is the htgawm/gmw au nobody asked me to create.
Twenty-two year old Riley Matthews is starting her first year of law school, facing new challenges such as surviving her own mother’s infamously impossible course. The other students may believe she’s only been chosen for her mother’s team because of nepotism, and honestly Riley sees no reason to believe otherwise, but Topanga Lawrence-Matthews knows better. She’s sees something special in all three of her carefully selected top students. Her daughter, who has always feared living in the shadow of her mother, yet has always possessed an intuition and kind heart that will make her an unstoppable force; Lucas Friar, the reckless loose cannon who will likely be uncontrollable, but who has a fighting spirit stronger than any other Topanga has seen; and Farkle Minkus, the legacy who has money and power on his side, but who chooses to never rely on it even if that means hiding his true identity from his peers.
The small college town is still reeling from the recent murder of local teen, Ava Morgenstern, but life moves on as the school year begins. Along with her young associates, Maya Hart and Charlie Gardener, and her (nearly) perfect record, Topanga introduces her students to the high of winning in the courtroom. The next few weeks are near bliss, even with complicated burgeoning relationships, the nosy questions of tech genius Isadora Smackle, and the appearance of a mysterious figure from Lucas’ past. Everything comes to a stop, however, when the body of seventeen year old Auggie Matthews is discovered after an apparent suicide attempt along with a note confessing to the murder of Ava. Riley refuses to accept that her brother would take his own life, never mind the life of his best friend, and is convinced there was foul play. The worst part is, the more secrets she uncovers, the more it seems that her new friends, and possibly her mother, may have had something to do with it.
cast listed under the cut
Vera Farmiga as Topanga Matthews
Hailee Steinfeld as Riley Matthews
Cody Christian as Lucas Friar
Tye Sheridan as Farkle Minkus
Emily Kinney as Maya Hart
Steve Lund as Charlie Gardener
Eva Noblezada as Isadora Smackle
Trevor Jackson as Isaiah Babineaux

I ask again that you not share the Tumblr with MVJ as he uses all knowledge of me against me or to imitate / try to be me rather than MVJ. I ask the same w/r/t MJ / Michael, as he resents me for various reasons to do with manipulation-leadership (such as telling him in '09 that I felt that I was going to be a doctor someday in order to hearten / give him morale when he was anguished over job-searching in the Great Recession).   I do things like this because of a film called "Late Spring" a masterpiece by the Japanese director who inspired the Taiwanese auteur about whom I wrote my RU senior thesis and met Rebecca Hu who inspired me to work hard, get that Singapore job, meet Kate again in '07 in NYC, promise her in '08 I would struggle / fight / work for 3 years to become someone deserving of her (hand in marriage if not just friendship), which is also part of why I made that '08-09 deal with Dad that culminated in me going to MTTP in Madison, meeting Chi Hye, falling in love with this gold light in her eyes, believing in angels and mountains and "They shall mount up as eagles and not stub their toe" (Isaiah), meeting Josephine Park at 7-Step and everyone else, getting promoted to Head Developer in 6 months, then quitting b/c of a falling out I had on that night I called you after 6 months' radio silence. IDK if you want to hear this but I wanted to marry Josephine / "LitGirl."  I thanked her for helping me.  IDK if you care about this she flirted with me partly by showing armpit-stubble in the summer of 2010 and I understood this because I understand "Korean American literature." She might be the most beautiful perfect ideal "jeongdakhan" (kind of 'suitable,,' or, 'spec') woman I ever met.  She went to Seoul National U. which is Korea's no.1 university and worked for an elite newspaper before taking some time off to write - she loves Emily Dickinson and, I believe, Park Wanseo, who wrote my favorite Korean short story "That Girl's House" about a promised couple in Japanese-occupied Korea who are separated by the girl's father's paranoia about Gop Dan's becoming a comfort woman and sold to be a farmer's bride in what becomes North Korea rather than marrying the "village prince" or aspiring scholar, who wants her to come away with him to Seoul... Josephine or "Jeongeun" (which kind of means perhaps "emotion-grace" or arguably "central grace" - Josephine means "love will increase" BTW and is the name of Jo from Little Women; the name she chose for herself) looks a bit like Lee Yowon the aspiring girl who gets plastic surgery in "Take Care of My Cat" and a bit like Seo Juhyun / Catherine Seo / Seohyun the youngest member of Girls Generation who was known for her probity, "Holy Seohyun" who was no. 2 in her HS before becoming the "maknae" or "final inner" / youngest and most beloved member of the nation's best-ever girl-group.  FWIW, I used to write to Seohyun on Twitter as well but she never replied.  On around the time of the sinking of the MV Sewol she wrote "we cried till our eyes dried" or so and used the word "huisaeng" to describe the victims which actually can mean "sacrifice."  I wrote to Seohyun using a quote from Dante Alighieri about beauty and pure thoughts or pure minds since I read "New Life / Vita Nuova" and "Heaven / Paradiso" in KR.  "Catherine" incidentally means "purity" as well. 2. On that night I first called you in 2011 I was out at a place with JEP and when I got back from our long phonecall she proceeded to get really drunk with foreigners I disliked from a hagwon I dislike throwing back soju and ultimately writing on the ladies' room floor throwing up.  Danny Shin asked me to go in to the BR to comfort / talk with her so I did.  I told her we should leave even before she got really drunk but she wouldn't obey me.  KJ Park arrived and said "ireona" (get up bitch) and she did.  I cursed in front of KJ Park since I felt I was being used as her crying-blankie and exploited to help her cope but never extricate from the situation.  I later had a slight heart-attack when I found out they were having an affair even as JE flirted with other men and used them I see now as "honey-trap" and to spy on all the employees.   I feel like this is the last time I will try to communicate open with you about why I am the way I am why I do what I do.  Back in 2008 you told me to use more kindness but where does that go?  It's good for little kids. Anyway before my heart-attack on that night - which impelled me to stop participating for a while in good faith with 7-Step's accelerated curriculum program working on Saturdays (which I had done happily before that) - I had been incredibly optimistic and at the same time "wise" in the "soi sage" sense reading Flaubert's last completed novel, which you might like one day, "L'Education Sentimentale" (accurately translated as "Emotional Education" since "Sentiment" sounds Victorian and sentimentality is an Anglo or Anglo-Korean category, saccharine in a way which French love and emotion are not).   I also later visited Cheonan her hometown which means "Heaven's Peace."  I walked around and years later wanted to write a novel called "Cheonan Sky" which is about the sinking of a ROKN frigate / destroyer / corvette called the ROKS Cheonan in 2010 but a North Korean suicide micro-submarine. The captain of the ROKS Cheonan never retired basically but became a military analyst for I believe either KJAD or 38North out of entailments or legacy-obligations to his men. The theme of "Cheonan Sky" is family killing family (the Korean War / civil war in general within a nation), terrorism, capital punishment by electrocution.  The ending is that the hero committed acts of 1st degree murder and terrorism and is dressed by his wife for execution after donating semen / sperm so she can have a child after his death. You might or might not be interested to know but "Cheonan" in Chinese characters is I believe "Tian'an'" like Tiananmen Square.   When I asked Josephine to teach me some Korean she said "Miryang" which means "secret sunshine" that is actually the name of a city as well a movie but known for the gang-rape of an elementary school girl.   3. This is kind of why I'm interested in terrorism, assassination, North Korean Studies, and also why I didn't know how to read people's sign about "covering love," concealing or forgiving crimes et cetera; covering sins.   I associate JEP for some reason with Russian blues and mother-of-pearl since I looked at a wedding ring which was mother-of-pearl and diamond in 2011.  In retrospect I have no idea whether she was interested in me or not or how willing she would have been to partner with me as opposed to KJ or Danny Shin or anyone else.  I won't say anything more because I don't oppose women being that way 100% although the Book of Proverbs does say not to prostitute your daughter and a British Victorian Evangelical PM used to walk the streets of London pleading with hookers to get honest if low-paying jobs (WE Gladstone who also said politics succeeds ultimately through "not love of power but power of love" a saying I associate these days with Mike Pompeo) I have come close to imprisonment and/or death lately from trying to be open w/ people in America so this is literally I ardently wish my last freebie w/r/t "teaching" people but the existence of people like Josephine also seems to bind me to SK or KR.  There is simply no way I can not go back someday.  When that ferry sank I saw an article about a foreigner graveyard in Incheon and felt what Shakespeare felt near the end of his life which was a desire beyond or parallel to after life to donate his bones to a certain plot of land.  I foolishly or heedlessly confessed this reality to Mi who became depressed and my words started to go over his head. IDK if you want to know this but I worked for a long time on a novel about the MV Sewol called "Flowers on Water" or "Flowers 1881" which is about the sovereignty of God in the deaths or waste of children as well as "It Is Well with My Soul," Chancellor / Pastor John Piper, the drowning of paedophiles in prison or others who abuse or exploit young people, and my own responsibility for failing as an HS teacher. IDK if you remember but the guy who owned the MV Sewol which sank due to unlawful loading of the hull with equipment was found decapitated with a backpack full of money in a field of maize, I believe.   There are those who believe including me that KR is not really a democracy but run by the KCIA or and/or through an organization called "One Company" or so that includes numerous military dictators, officers, many of whom used to be teachers though some were also associated with the terrorist-student radical organization (the ShiShi) that produced the Meiji Restoration and the Empire of Japan -> WW2 Pacific since the Japanese were determined not to let American "gunboat diplomacy" lead to cultural genocide or everlasting hegemony of the West over either JP or the total Far East. My last thing to you is just that there are those who believe the imperial family of JP who were restored to supremacy in gov't by the ShiShi after centuries of formalistic ritualitsic formalistic ceremonial "Chinese" rule are partly Korean in blood and Koreans themselves believe in "Minjung Theology" saying Koreans have a holy destiny worldwide which is something I believe as well. You can be 10,000% honest with me about your intentions from now on BTW.  IDK if I can get back to KR now, a year from now, or in a coffin.   It depends on money I guess.   As I reflected in my previous e-mail after my born again prayer in 2004 when I wished for unity (in the field across the street from Marshall School) I eventually got that unity around 2012 when Dad said he would work sacrificially to fix me up following my suicide-attempt and in 2013 when I told Jaeyoung that I wanted to be a principal I precipitated or incubated a process leading up to the Lead Teacher position I was offered a few months back as well as Concordia's interest in my application for their Educational Leadership doctorate.   If you want to read one more book by a Korean I urge "The Fourth Dimension" by Rev. Dr. David YongGi Cho, the pastor of a church called Yoido or Yeouido Full Gospel which claims some 500,000 members though Dr. Cho has been indicted for embezzlement and there are those who would doubt his belief in miracle faith-healing or in God's defending people from things like head-first suicide-attempts. As my student once said to me, "Thank you for everything" DJJ PS again if you like music I rec. "Marvel Not That Christ in Glory" - "Christ in p/POWER Resurrection / calling many sons to glory" - as well as a pop-song called "Please Remember Me" by a girl-group known as Year 7 Class 1 or 7-1. It is a slow ballad but the central refrain is "yaksokhae uri... kkok mannayo..." (Let us promise to meet again rapidly / immediately)...
