🖊 emeria?
Emeria is extremely well-read, but more so in regards to fiction and poetry. She often gets pegged as superficial and lofty, so it always comes as a surprise when she knows some obscure fact from her reading, and once she becomes the Herald and gets involved with the Inquisition, even she’s surprised by how much she knows once it’s actually put into practice. She’s also a fan of Varric’s serials, and knew who he was before the Conclave, but she was more of a fan of Hard in Hightown and hadn’t gotten around to Swords and Shields yet (she snorts when Varric introduces himself to Harding and tries to say the “Then you’d be Harding in Hightown” line, but I think this only endears Harding to her more, and she knows she doesn’t have to be formal and uptight around her from the very beginning).

all this dragon age talk reminds me how I need to think of a new LI for my rogue Trevelyan which I've been meaning to do for some time since her story's changed over the years but also all of this GE drama, while hilarious, is just making me want to change it from Cullen ASAP if not just to distance my OCs from him bc omfg that video is so cringe idk if I can ever look at that character the same way ever again (also Mical in kotor 2 🤢 Mical does not deserve this)

🖊 for Emeria, as you mentioned that you missed her lately and there’s always room for Trevelyan love :)
Ahh thank you! My brain has been flip flopping between Star Wars and Dragon Age since the teaser dropped and got me wondering about how Emeria would be holding up after Trespasser. After playing through with several other characters, I think she would decide to disband the Inquisition and return to Ostwick to finally run the family estate, as she intended before the Conclave, but sees it as an opportunity to continue the order in secret, using the estate as a base of operations. As a noble, I think she’d also use her connections to help Sera and Red Jenny, seeing as Emeria was always a bit of a trouble-maker as a kid and enjoyed outing “phony” nobles, though more so to embarrass them at parties and cleverly manipulate their social standing if she could (well, to the jerks she felt deserved it anyway). Plus, I think escaping for a while to help Sera here and there is a good way for her to slip away for a bit, and to do some sleuthing on her own as well while she’s at it. It helps her feel useful and it brings back memories of traveling Thedas with the others.

I was tagged by @mythalsfavour to talk about five facts for one of my OC’s, and I’ve finally had the time to do it! I used to talk about Emeria more, and despite how many other Inquisitors I’ve made and loved, Emeria will always have a place in my heart because she’s the first Dragon Age OC that I went so hard for, she seemed to walk into my head already fully-formed. Maybe I’ll do something similar for my Star Wars OCs sometime soon, too. Thanks for the tag, this was a lot of fun! :)
1. Before Inquisition, Emeria was set to inherit House Trevelyan and run the household in her parents’ stead, much like Josephine is set to one day be the acting head of House Montilyet. Even as the youngest, Emeria was always set to take on this role. Her seven other siblings were either married off to other powerful houses in the Free Marches or trained to be Chantry scholars and Templars so they could potentially have religious/political influence/connections. After falling into the Inquisition, and choosing to keep the order going on the DL, Emeria passes the title onto her oldest sister, now widowed, who always wanted the family title and never liked the husband her parents chose for her.
2. Like many other children born to noble houses, Emeria has been trained in a variety of random things like watercolor painting, horseback riding, poetry writing and reciting,  and is “well-versed” in classic literature (she much prefers serials, so she’s definitely familiar with Varric’s Hard in Hightown, plus he’s rather well-known in the Free Marches so she rightfully fangirls when she meets him).
3. Emeria loves telling stories and gossiping (she was largely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma) and has a bad habit of retelling things that happened to other people as if they were her own, just because she knows she can spin a good story and get a good reaction (sort of like that one option to tell a story during the Wicked Grace scene). The bad part about this is that she’s sometimes forgotten where certain stories came from, so on some (particularly drunk) occasions, she’s told her version of a story to the person it originally happened to. Yikes.
4. She’s a terrible singer.
5. I’m not sure if I want this to be true to my canon for her or not because it seems borderline Mary-Suey, but with her tendency to mess around with noble affairs in a very Emma-Woodhouse-esque way, I always thought it would be funny if Emeria ended up being an unofficial and unaware friend of Red Jenny and had been for years. As a teenager, she had a knack for outing people she didn’t like, typically “phony” nobles she and friends/siblings found irritating in one way or another, so I can see her being the reason behind the unsuspected downfall of a handful of people from the Free Marches all because of a well-placed rumor or an outed secret.

25, 26, 27 for emeria???
25. What inspired you to create them / how did you create them? Were they originally a fancharacter? What was their personality / design like when you first made them?Emeria definitely just happened. I created her solely to make a character for a “completionist” playthrough of Inquisition after my first run, so she was the first character I rolled after having finished the game only once. I already had an idea of what happened and was prepared to make certain decisions, and in doing that she just kind of developed from there. I had no intentions of actually role playing, though I did originally model her after Evangeline Lilly in Lost/The Hobbit films (especially the latter since they had just come out with the last one). Emeria has been pretty loyal to my first iteration of her, too. She’s a lot like Emma Woodhouse from Jane Austen’s novel Emma. She’s a privileged girl, doted on but never quite taken seriously by her parents (though the circumstances are different than the Austen novel) so she’s never had a real responsibility in her whole life, though she is meant to take over the family estate as the youngest of the Trevelyans. She’s still young, and her parents always treated the idea of her legacy as so far off that she only ever learns the ins and outs of society but not any actual business of managing an estate. Her father passes away shortly before the Conclave, so the event itself is a big wake-up call, and being the Herald/Inquisitor even more so.
26. Who is the most important person in their life? Why? Who is the least important to them (that still has an impact and why?The most important in Emeria’s life is her father, whose position she has inherited, and was always meant to inherit, but he’s also the parent who truly loves her for her. Yet, he’s also failed her because he did not properly prepare her for the duties she’d have to take on. She does not care for her mother, nor her mother for her, aside from her usefulness as an heir or making her look good. They’re very much alike in temperament, but their beliefs could not be more different.
27. What kind of childhood did your character have?Overall, a good one, but also a sheltered one.

3, 4 & 9 for the Trevelyans!
3: What outfit or style of clothing is your character most often seen wearing?
Emeria is really fond her Trevelyan riding garb, which manages to be a bit practical as well as ceremonious at the same time. It basically includes a blouse of her house color (which I imagine is a deep, rich eggplant purple, very royal) with billowing sleeves that gather at the wrist into an ornate cuff, an embossed leather bodice/vest, riding pants, and tall, light brown leather boots. Otherwise, she tends to wear much of the same; flowy blouses, tall embossed boots,
Emeric is used to wearing whatever was expected of him as a noble, whether it be appropriate for holding an audience with guests, going to the Chantry or holding a ceremony, but once he’s in the Inquisition I can see him having fun sporting more rugged, adventurer’s clothing like the Venture Forth or Venture Capital outfits in the Inquisitor’s wardrobe.
4: What would your character wear to a formal gathering such as a dance, a wedding, or a funeral?
Emeria likes dressing up but knows not to go overboard. She would opt for something understated but a bit slinky rather than overdressing. She loves jewel tones, so she plays up color over volume or accessory most of the time, opting for simple pieces that still manage to stand out.
Emeric is a bit like Emeria in this sense. He usually wears the basic nondescript uniform, like the default outfits the Inquisition sports at the Winter Palace, but he does have a weakness for flashy sashes. Emeric would be the sort of guy to wear a grey uniform but add a textured sash in emerald green or sapphire blue. He enjoys dressing up, and cleans up pretty damn well, if he says so himself, and loves adding little accents that aren’t too flashy but just unique enough to set him apart.
They’re both practical yet fashionable dressers ;)
9: Does your character have a dream job or life path for themselves?
Emeria had no direction in life before the Conclave. She was the last of the Trevelyans, and since the rest of her family had already settled into carefully arranged marriages or positions in the Chantry as scholars, sisters, or Templars, Emeria was going to inherit the Trevelyan Estate and manage the family household. She was fully expecting to live a carefree life of afternoon tea, gossip, parties, reading (she’s a fan of Varric’s work, she loves Hard in Hightown but never got into Swords and Shields), reciting poetry, watercolor painting and horseback riding (think: Emma Woodhouse). Once everything goes to shit and she becomes the Herald/Inquisitor she turns herself around and tries to better herself in every way she can, learn about the world and be people in it, become more physically capable/useful, and put what skills she has to good use.
Emeric, on the other hand, was set to be a Templar, which was expected of him as a devout Trevelyan and Adrastian, but upon seeing the rebel mages up close, hearing about Cassandra’s and Cullen’s experiences, and seeing what happened at Theirinfal Redoubt he begins to change his tune but realizes just how much needs to change for the better and that there is a lot more good he could do as part of the Inquisition than he ever could as a Templar, even despite the circumstances.

5, 27, 43, and 45 for precious Emeria, or any other character you want!! I'd love to hear about your other OCs too :3
5. Do they have any siblings? What’s their names? What is their relationship with them? Has their relationship changed since they were kids to adults?
I always pictured Emeria as being the youngest of some ridiculous number, like seven children. I had written some random fic exercises a loooooong long time ago and I think I named all of her siblings with other E or A names like Emeric (which I used for my male Inquis), Evangeline, Ewan, Aveline, Armand, and Aiden. As the youngest, Emeria was always the darling of the family, but each of her siblings had some sort of calling, whether they became scholars, templars, priestesses or married into other noble families with rich titles. They love seeing her at parties, but generally never took her seriously because their parents doted on her and babied her completely, so when Emeria is hailed as the Herald and later becomes Inquisitor she feels like she needs to make up for her upbringing and prove herself to her siblings who once barely thought she could manage a household.
27. What makes them sad? Do they cry regularly? Do they cry openly or hide it? What are they like they are sad?
I can’t picture Emeria really crying, unless completely distraught. Before Haven, the thing she’s best at is masking her feelings, whether they be mischievous or otherwise. She’d fare very well in Orlais. But despite her desire to uphold her outward appearance, she definitely cries when her father dies, but truly loses herself when she realizes just how little she knows about the world when she makes the journey to the Conclave and really interacts with the others on the road. On that note, I can see her retreating to her quarters often during the early days of the Inquisition to cry because she is so unsure of herself and her abilities. Otherwise, if she’s distraught around others she somehow manages to uphold this appearance that everything is fine. I feel like Vivienne would act very much the same way.
43. Are they religious? What do they think of religion? What do they think of religious people? What do they think of non religious people?
Emeria’s mother was “pious” but more so for social reasons, and Emeria kind of hated her false devotion because of it. Her mother used to criticize Emeria’s behavior and warn her of her immortal soul’s undoubtedly doomed fate, which makes Emeria kind of resent Andraste. She’s not anti-Andrastian, but she’s kind of turned off by it. When she’s called the Herald of Andraste she finds it absolutely hilarious because of all the years her mother berated her hedonism. But I think she eventually believes in something given all that she’s seen, but is a Thedosian version of an agnostic, if that’s a thing.
45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?
Having had such an easy childhood and a bratty upbringing, I think Emeria is as confident and sure of herself as she outwardly appears for most of her life. When the Conclave happens and she’s thrown into the midst of the Inquisition, she loses her sense of self-confidence completely but she always seems outwardly sure of herself despite it, but I think it’s because her anxieties take the form of dedicating all of her energy to bettering herself and broadening her knowledge and skill. I think the one person who can see her hesitation is Cassandra - I can totally see Emeria constantly asking Cassandra if there is more that she can do, constantly asking for her advice when making almost any kind of decision and Emeria always seems to be looking for her approval, even if she isn’t outwardly desperate about it. I feel like Varric would notice this too, but mostly because Varric is just good at reading people.

Day 1: Favorite Outfit/Armor
Emeria relishes in the ink blue of her riding leathers, suede at the touch but tough against steel. The weight of the fabric nestles her in its folds, bidding that she stay a while, break in the knees and elbows and take it for a walk. Gloves fashioned of chocolate and almond silk fabric reach to her elbows with a pointed flourish, a design Josephine took great pains to purchase from a merchant in Val Royeaux, a similar colored sash accenting her waist and keeping her core taut, at the ready. Admiring herself in the mirror, alone in her chambers, she imagines running down to Josie, jumping off the ledge of her unfinished tower straight to the stairwell where her confidante was meeting with a delegate. Thankfully for the ambassador, Emeria is more taken with how seasoned she looks than poised to ruin another important meeting for the Inquisition. In Emeria Trevelyan’s defense, a majority of said incidents could be classified as accidents. Ambassador Montilyet may think differently.
A brisk autumn chill bites at the nape of her neck, exposed to the open windows behind her. Emeria’s thick curls are looped in a sorry excuse for a braid over her shoulder and a few strands came loose as she abandons the mirror to shut the doors at her balcony. A swirling lock of muddied brown escapes the braid’s hold and drapes itself annoyingly in her line of sight as a final gust blows through the closing doors. She huffs a grunt of annoyance, fluttering it out of her face for just a moment before it lands right back where she does not want it. Tucking it behind her ear, she turns round, examining the rest of her garb in the mirror at this distance. From here she can get a better view of riding boots, knee-high, tapering to intricately embroidered points just over the crest of her knee, meeting her thigh. A holster rests at one leg, something she is not yet used to. It alters her gait with every step, but Leliana tells her she will come not to notice it. Gloved fingers trace the buttons at the vest of her rogue’s garment, still glittering and untarnished. She memorizes their every facet before they are undoubtedly covered in the unmentionable innards of demons and beasts alike. She wonders if Vivienne knows a spell for repelling stains at the thought, and makes for her chambers, knowing that the initial answer to her question is more than likely an “Of bloody course,” and the only question is whether the Knight Enchanter would curse (most likely not) or consider a stain-repelling enchantment for all of her clothes, given the task was below her rank and paygrade.
