writing idea! in honor of you making it through surgery, I was thinking poor Y/N gets a similar procedure and Cillian is extra caring doctor husband. Im a full time caregiver for my ailing spouse so Y/N getting cared for and fussed over is extra special to me.
Lots of love to you and your OH 😘😘
If I run off course with this, I'm sorry in advance! Forgive my typos, I don't have my glasses! Larger text so I can see haha
For three days you tried to ignore it, but it eventually got so bad that you couldn't focus on anything other than it. The whole right side of your lower jaw hurts, and it spreads into your ear and neck as the days ticked on. A screaming, sharp pain that made anything else impossible to focus on at all. When the pain starts to make you feel nauseous, too, Cillian puts his foot down with a firm hand.
"Y/N, I'm calling the emergency centre. You're dying with the pain." He says, walking into the kitchen with Clíodhna held up against his chest. Bracing your hands on the counter, you look up at him and nod your head.
"I don't know if it's an abscess, or a wisdom tooth gone rogue, but I can't take it anymore." You admit. You watch as Clíodhna pats her chubby hand against Cillian's cheek, smiling brightly at him. While Cillian doesn't like to upset Clíodhna, he can't help looking at you with a deeply concerned expression.
Within an hour, you have a pre-booked appointment to see the emergency dentist at the centre in Malahide. Cillian has arranged for Aran to come over and sit with Clíodhna so that he can drive you in and stay with you - you're both anticipating a procedure of some kind being done on the spot. You knock back two ibuprofen with some lukewarm water - the cold only makes it worse - and you nearly groan audibly in relief when Aran arrives. Kissing your eighteen month old daughter goodbye, you leave the house with Cillian filled with anxiety. You're both nervous to leave Clíodhna, and nervous to see the dentist - not that you can even stand the thoughts of putting off seeing them any longer.
It takes the dentist ten minutes and an x-ray to diagnose an infected wisdom tooth on your bottom right side. She advises immediate extraction, which she's willing to do there and then due to availability. You look at Cillian as her words are uttered, fear and anxiety flooding you once again. He crosses the small room to take your hand in the dental chair, locking your fingers together as the dentist explains what's next; she will numb up your mouth for the extraction with local anaesthetic, but she'll also give you a low dose of midazolam to induce what she calls a 'twilight sleep'. You'll be mildly sedated, causing sleepiness and immense relaxation without fully putting you to sleep. She makes Cillian vow that you'll be allowed to rest and that you'll be supported and monitored for the remainder of the day. He has no problem agreeing to that.
Her work passes you by in a blur - you recall the medication, and even the numbing of your gum, but the next thing you fully remember is staring at Cillian and wondering why his four eyes kept blinking at the same time. You can make enough sense of things to know that you're loopy as shit, but you also still feel loopy. Your mouth is packed with a small cotton swab and you can feel, with your tongue, the stitches over where your missing tooth was. With a bag of antibiotics and co-cocodamol in hand, you leave the centre with Cillian's arm wrapped tightly around your back to guide you to the car. The fresh air outside feels good, but you absolutely do not. You feel drunk - and that hasn't happened for a long time! You feel like you understand everything but your words won't come out clearly, and you feel desperately tearful.
"Y/N?" Cillian says gently. You look at him, blinking slowly and frown as he sort of laughs at you. "We're home, Y/N." You're not sure how that happened - you don't even remember getting into to the car! "Sit there for a second, I'll come around and open the door." He tells you as he gets out of the driver's side door. As you fumble with the seatbelt, finding unbuttoning it ridiculously difficult, you nearly jump out of your skin when the door opens beside you and Cillian is suddenly standing to your left. "Y/N, mo ghrá, it's just me." He chuckles. "Jays, you're so fucking stoned." He laughs. He takes your medication bag from your hands, then grabs hold of your left hand. "Step out slowly, you're still dizzy." He instructs you. Trying to follow his instructions sounds easy enough, but your body reacts a lot slower than it should. And then all I'd a sudden, Cillian is pushing your shoulders gently and laughing gently - you're in the house and he's begging you to bed your knees and sit down on the couch. "Y/N, come on, bend your legs!" Finally registering his words, you sit down into the corner of the sofa.
Over the next half an hour, things get clearer and clearer - but as they do, your mouth also gets more painful. It's a different pain to before; it's not all encompassing anymore, but it's a deep ache in your gum and you feel sleepy and nauseous, too. With your returned clarity comes the realisation that Cillian has been entertaining Clíodhna single handedly while you've dissociated in your drugged stupour. Aran is gone, Cillian is beside you on the sofa, and Clíodhna is curled up on Cillian's lap with a bottle in her mouth and her snuggle blanket pulled up near her face. Slowly, you begin to remember the events since coming home. Cillian had made you tea, and let it cool a little before bringing it to you. He'd brought you an icepack for your face, popped out and handed you your antibiotics and pain killers, and swapped your icepack for a hot water bottle for your cheek when you'd decided that would be more soothing. In the middle of all of that, he'd fed Clíodhna her lunch, changed her nappy twice, and was now, whilst sitting at your side, nursing her as she supped on her milk and settled down for her nap.
"How're you feeling?" He asks as you draw the hot water bottle down from your cheek.
You wrinkle your nose. Your voice comes out a little oddly, thanks to the packing in your cheek, but you're not inaudible or not able to be understood. "Pain's better," you say. "But that sedative shit..." You chuckle a little, and regret it as it pulls at your cheek. "I feel like I've been day-drinking."
You smiles, "You look like it." He shifts Clíodhna a little and you realise she's fallen asleep. He carefully stands up, holding her in a cradle hold, and turns around to lay the sleeping beauty out on the stretch of the sofa. Laying cushions beside her to prevent her rolling, he then moves around to sit at your other side on the sofa. "Can I do anything?" He asks. "Get you anything?"
You soften your eyes as you smile just a little, "I'm okay, you've done enough."
"Sure, you don't need anything? Will I get your hot water bottle heated up again?" He says.
You shake your head, *No, love, you've done enough. But you can do one last thing, actually."
He raises his eyebrows, "Of course, mo ghrá, what is it?"
"Gimmie a cuddle?" You stick out your bottom lip a little.
You grins, "Ah, c'mere to me, you big stoned weirdo." He says, opening out his arms. He shuffles about and then allows you to curl against him before he sits back against the sofa properly. He smoothes his hand through your hair as you rest your head comfortably against his chest. "Switch off your brain, there." He tells you, "You're not to be thinking about missus over there, I've got it all in hand. Just rest." He tells you. "I can do anything you need - you'll have to pee for yourself, like, but I can do anything else." He teases. "And I called Amanda and exaggerated a little, so you've two days off work now too." He chuckles and it vibrates in the best way against your cheek. "Don't be lifting a fucking finger now, you hear me? You need something, ask; you want something doing or getting, just tell me. The dentist said you've to rest and you're gonna rest."
"it's just an extracted tooth and a mild infection, Cill." You mumble around the cotton swap.
"...that's made you feel crappy, and you're half stoned. So do as you're fecking told, will ya?!" He scolds you teasingly. "Let me look after ya - I want to."
You smile softly, even though he can't see it. He really is the best nurse.

Hey can you please write where Lars has to take care of y/n after they get an either a tooth extracted or their wisdom teeth taken out.
Please and thank you
I hope you like this one.
“Lars!”
You flung your arms around your favourite person in the whole wide world, not caring that he stiffened, both arms pinned to his sides. You blinked up at him, expectant smile on your face, ignoring the sting you were only vaguely aware of. Right on the outskirt of your perception, something in your mouth pulled, a throbbing that was new and uncomfortable.
“Let’s get you home,” he said, still caught up tight in your embrace.
“Home,” you groaned, “I like home.”
“I know. That’s why I’m going to take you there.”
“You’re coming with me?”
You weren’t sure you’d ever felt such joy as having Lars in your home.
“Just like we agreed,” he said.
He disentangled himself from your hold, ignored your pout as he slipped an arm around your waist, guiding you out the door. You were gazing up at him, caught up in the way sunlight seemed to play over his skin and in his hair. Your heart ached from how beautiful he was.
“Do you know how pretty you are?” you asked, feet clumsy as he guided you across the parking lot.
“Well, I, uh, thank you,’ he said, not quite looking at you. You wished he would. He had such pretty blue eyes.
You were leaning into him, enjoying the way the long lines of his body felt against yours. He was holding you up, fumbling for the door of his old car. You loved that car. Inside it smelt of years gone by, like sunlight and dust and electricity. Chasing storms and chasing dreams. You loved it, more than words could ever express.
He deposited you in the front seat, doing his best to avoid your grasping hands. You wanted to pull him closer and tell him exactly how much you loved his car. To whisper in his ear so no one would hear.
He played your hands in your lap, bent over as he settled you, pulling the seatbelt over your chest and securing it in place. You lent forward, kissing his cheek, feeling the stubble threatening to emerge scratch against your lips.
You ached when you smiled up at his wide eyed expression.
He shut the door on you, hurrying around the back of the car to slide into the driver’s seat. you turned in your seat, head resting against the head rest, watching him closely. He moved fluidly, so much more graceful than you. You reached out, hand knocking his as he changed gear on the car. His eyebrow quirked when he looked at you and you were slow to reach up, tracing the length of his eyebrow. He caught your hand, lowering it back into your lap.
You dragged your eyes away from him, watching as a bicycle stopped beside the car at a red traffic light, keeping your pout to yourself. And yet you heard when he chuckled, indignation rushing through you.
“You’re mean,” you said.
“I’m trying to get you home safe and sound,” he replied, not denying it.
You hunkered down in your seat, refusing to look at him, arms crossed over your chest like a petulant child. He kept to his side of the car and you refused to reach out to him. He didn’t deserve your attention if he was going to be so mean to you.
The car came to an abrupt stop, pulling up on the street outside your apartment building. Struggling with the seatbelt, you tried to leave the car without Lars, not needing his help when he was going to be acting so mean to you. He pulled the door open for you anyway, helping you get out of the seatbelt, an arm still wound around your waist.
He was so warm and so comfortable and you could just burrow into him if he let you. He never let you.
“Okay, stairs,” he said looking at them in the entrance hall, “no lift?”
“It’s broken,” you replied, “it’s always broken.”
He sighed but didn’t falter as he made for the stairs with you. You dragged your heels, too tired to consider climbing four flights of stairs. He sighed again, swinging you up into his arms before you could protest. He was so strong. Sometimes you forgot when all you did was sit in a lab and talk about science all day. He should do this more often. You liked how strong he was. Nice strong arms that could hold you easily.
You rested your head against his shoulder. He always smelt so good, like soap and aftershave and something that was only ever around when Lars was. You pressed your face into his neck, listening to him breathe as he climbed.
“Alright, where’s your key, love?” he asked.
He was slow to put you down, your knees unsteady, like they’d turned to jelly. You rummaged in your bag, finding all kinds of things you didn’t need like bobby pins and lipstick and some mints. None of it was your keys. You dug deeper, fingers scrabbling for the cold metal you knew you’d thrown in there when Lars had picked you up earlier.
His hand steadied your as you inserted the key, guiding it into the keyhole. His hand was so warm, skin brushing skin and a steadying force when you felt so weak. Your tiny apartment was the same as always, a bit messy and very lived in and one of your favourite places in the world. You fell onto your couch, secondhand and overstuffed, comfortable beyond comfort.
“Are you hungry?” Lars asked, shutting the door to keep the rest of the world out, “thirsty?”
There was still an ache in your mouth but a more insistent one in your stomach. Your throat felt scratchy and you hadn’t realised how much the thought of food would make you salivate.
“Yes,” you replied, nodding, considering getting up.
“To which one?” he asked.
“Both,” you said.
He left you there, taking the three steps it took to get to your kitchen. You turned, pushing up for your arms to rest along the back of the couch, chin resting on top as you watched him. He knew your home well enough to be able to begin making something. Fruit and milk and yoghurt and a blender.
“You’re not allowed to have food that needs chewing,” he said.
He passed the glass over to you. It was so cold, like a block of ice in your hands, and you brought it closer to your chest. You looked down into the slightly pink drink and felt tears prickle at the corner of your eyes.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“You’re so nice to me,” you said.
He took a seat beside you, the sofa cushions dipping until you felt your body tip towards him. He caught your glass before the smoothie could tip out onto you. He passed it back to you once you’d stopped moving. Taking a sip from it you hummed, going back for another one.
“This is the best thing I’ve ever tasted,” you said, licking the froth from your top lip.
“It’s not that good,” he said but you could see the way his lips quirked up into a small smile.
‘Seriously. You’re like a genius. A proper genius. How’d you get so smart?” you asked, shuffling even closer, until your thigh was pressed against his.
“Just lucky, I suppose,” he said, “finish your drink.”
You did as you were told, both hands holding onto the glass. You drank deeply, your empty stomach aching with need. It was like you’d been emptied out, a hollow vessel for smoothies. He took the glass from you when it was empty, setting it down on the floor beside his feet.
“Do you want another one?”
You nodded. He paused, looking down at you and you found yourself leaning into him. He was warm, shoulder encased in a soft sweater beneath your cheek. You brushed against it, enjoying the sensation against your skin.
“Come on, love. You have to let me get up if I’m going to make you another one.”
It was with reluctance that you let him get up again. He took your glass and you listened to the blender again. You lay back on the couch, curling up as you waited, trying to be patient. His fingers stroked over your hair as he passed you the glass again. You sat up, bringing it to your lips.
“Do you need anything for the pain?” he asked.
You shook your head, chugging the smoothie. When you put it down, he immediately picked it back up, taking it into the kitchen. Sitting beside you, you curled up against him again, not able to stop yourself when he was right there.
“Can we watch Bridget Jones?” you asked.
“Whatever you want,” he said.
He jostled you for a moment, grabbing the remote for your old tv, getting the movie playing. He reached for the blanket on the back of the couch, draping it over you. You spread it over his lap too, curling against his side. His arm draped around you, warming you up from the inside out.
Somewhere between the tarts and vicar party and the cheating scandal, your eyes slipped closed. He was so warm and comfortable and all the good things in life. It was easy to relax until you were melting into him.
So when you woke up some time in the middle of the night, draped over his chest, slowly rising and falling with each breath, the blanket curled around you, all you did was snuggle closer to your nurse.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Tiong Bahru: Your Guide to Pain-Free Removal

Experiencing wisdom tooth pain? You’re not alone. Many people require wisdom teeth removal due to pain, swelling, or potential complications. If you’re considering wisdom tooth extraction in Tiong Bahru, this guide will help you understand the procedure, costs, and available options.
Why Wisdom Tooth Extraction is Necessary
Wisdom teeth often emerge between the ages of 17 and 25. While some people experience no issues, others suffer from impacted wisdom teeth, infections, or overcrowding. If left untreated, these problems can lead to severe pain and long-term dental issues.
Common reasons for wisdom tooth extraction include:
Impacted Wisdom Teeth – When the teeth don’t have enough space to emerge properly.
Wisdom Tooth Pain – Persistent pain and swelling caused by infection or pressure on adjacent teeth.
Tooth Decay or Infection – Due to their location, wisdom teeth are hard to clean, increasing the risk of decay and gum infections.
Overcrowding – Wisdom teeth can push against other teeth, leading to misalignment.
The Tooth Extraction Procedure
If you’re experiencing discomfort, your dentist may recommend a wisdom tooth extraction. Here’s what to expect during the procedure:
Consultation – Your dentist will examine your wisdom teeth and may take X-rays to assess their position.
Anesthesia – Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area, ensuring a pain-free experience.
Extraction – The tooth is carefully removed. If it’s impacted, the dentist may need to make a small incision in the gum.
Recovery – You’ll receive post-extraction care instructions, including pain management and dietary recommendations.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction Cost in Tiong Bahru

By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of what to expect and how to book an appointment with a trusted dental professional.
When is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?
A tooth extraction is usually recommended when a tooth can no longer be saved through restorative treatments like fillings, crowns, or root canals. Some of the most common reasons for needing a tooth extraction include:
Severe Tooth Decay — When a cavity extends deep into the tooth, causing infection or nerve damage, extraction may be the only option.
Gum Disease (Periodontitis) — Advanced gum disease can weaken the supporting structures of a tooth, making it loose and requiring removal.
Tooth Infection or Abscess — If an infection spreads deep into the roots and surrounding bone, an extraction may be necessary to prevent further complications.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth — When wisdom teeth fail to emerge properly, they can cause pain, swelling, and infection, often requiring surgical removal.
Overcrowding — In cases where there is not enough space in the mouth, extractions may be needed to prepare for orthodontic treatments like braces or aligners.
Tooth Fractures or Trauma — A severely broken or cracked tooth that cannot be repaired may need to be extracted.

When to Say Goodbye to Your Wisdom Teeth: A Simple Guide

For many people, the arrival of wisdom teeth is less a sign of increased intelligence and more an unwelcome guest causing discomfort. These third molars, located at the very back of your mouth, typically emerge in your late teens or early twenties. While some individuals experience no issues with their wisdom teeth, for others, they can become a source of pain and dental complications. So, when is it actually necessary to consider extraction? This article will guide you through the scenarios where wisdom teeth removal might be the best course of action.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth: A Common Problem
One of the most frequent reasons for wisdom teeth removal is impaction. This occurs when there is insufficient space in your jaw for the wisdom teeth to erupt fully and properly. Impacted wisdom teeth can become trapped beneath the gum line or only partially emerge. This can lead to a host of problems. Food and bacteria can become trapped around the partially erupted tooth, increasing the risk of infection and decay, not just for the wisdom tooth itself, but also for the adjacent molars.
Pain and Discomfort: Listening to Your Body
Pain is often a clear indicator that something is amiss with your wisdom teeth. This discomfort can range from a dull ache to sharp, throbbing pain in the back of your jaw. The pain might be intermittent or persistent, and it can worsen when chewing or opening your mouth wide. If you are experiencing persistent pain associated with your wisdom teeth, it is advisable to consult your dentist. They can assess the situation and determine if removal is necessary to alleviate your discomfort.
Infection and Gum Disease: Protecting Your Oral Health
Partially erupted wisdom teeth create pockets where bacteria can accumulate easily. This can lead to pericoronitis, an infection of the gum tissue surrounding the tooth. Symptoms of pericoronitis include redness, swelling, pain, and difficulty opening your mouth. Untreated infections can spread to other parts of the mouth and even the body. Furthermore, misaligned wisdom teeth can make it difficult to clean properly between teeth, increasing the risk of gum disease and cavities in neighbouring teeth. If infection or gum disease related to wisdom teeth becomes a recurring issue, extraction is often recommended to prevent further complications.
Damage to Adjacent Teeth: Preventing Future Problems
Sometimes, wisdom teeth can grow at an angle, pushing against the roots of the adjacent second molars. This pressure can damage the roots of these teeth, leading to pain, instability, and even tooth loss. In such cases, removing the wisdom teeth can prevent further damage and protect the health of your other teeth. Your dentist may recommend preventative removal if they identify that your wisdom teeth are likely to cause such problems in the future, even if you are not currently experiencing any symptoms. Considering the potential for future issues, exploring options like wisdom teeth removal melbourne cost early on can be a proactive step in maintaining long-term oral health.
Cysts and Tumours: Rare but Serious Complications
In rare instances, cysts or tumours can develop around impacted wisdom teeth. These growths can damage the jawbone, teeth, and nerves. While not common, these complications highlight the importance of regular dental check-ups and addressing impacted wisdom teeth proactively. Early detection and removal of problematic wisdom teeth can prevent these more serious issues from developing.
Orthodontic Treatment: Planning for a Straighter Smile
For individuals undergoing orthodontic treatment, such as braces, wisdom teeth can sometimes interfere with the alignment of other teeth. They can exert pressure on already straightened teeth, potentially causing them to shift back out of position after braces are removed. In these situations, dentists or orthodontists might recommend wisdom teeth removal as part of the overall treatment plan to ensure the long-term success of orthodontic work. For individuals in Sydney concerned about costs, researching wisdom teeth removal cost Sydney can help in planning for treatment.
Proactive Removal: Weighing the Benefits
Some dentists advocate for proactive removal of wisdom teeth in younger adults, even if problems are not currently present. The reasoning is that younger patients generally experience quicker healing and fewer complications compared to older individuals. Proactive removal can prevent potential problems from developing later in life, such as impaction, infection, or damage to other teeth. Deciding on proactive removal is a personal choice that should be made in consultation with your dentist, considering your individual circumstances and potential risks and benefits. For those seeking budget-friendly options in Melbourne, researching affordable wisdom teeth removal Melbourne is a sensible step.
Ultimately, the decision to remove wisdom teeth is a personal one made in consultation with your dentist. Regular dental check-ups and open communication with your dental professional are key to determining the best course of action for your specific situation. By understanding the potential issues associated with wisdom teeth, you can make informed choices about your oral health and well-being

Surgical Extraction: For impacted or broken teeth, a small incision may be made in the gum to remove the tooth safely.
4. Post-Extraction Care and Recovery
After the extraction, the dentist provides detailed care instructions, including:
Applying gauze to control bleeding
Avoiding strenuous activity for 24 hours

How Long Does Recovery Take?
Healing typically takes one to two weeks. Most patients resume normal activities within a few days while following aftercare instructions.
What Should I Eat After an Extraction?
Stick to soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, soups, and smoothies. Avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods that could irritate the extraction site.

A Comprehensive Guide To Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, typically emerge in the late teenage years or early twenties. While some people experience no issues with their wisdom teeth, many individuals face complications such as pain, swelling, infections, or misalignment. In such cases, wisdom teeth removal in Parramatta becomes necessary to prevent further oral health problems.
This article explores the importance of wisdom teeth extraction, signs that indicate removal is needed, the procedure itself, and aftercare tips for a smooth recovery.

Infections & Gum Disease: Partially erupted wisdom teeth create pockets where bacteria can accumulate.
Tooth Decay: Hard-to-reach wisdom teeth are more prone to cavities.
1.2 Impact of Ignoring Wisdom Tooth Problems
Delaying necessary removal can lead to complications such as infections, cysts, and damage to adjacent teeth. Early diagnosis and timely extraction can prevent long-term dental issues.
2. Signs That You Need Wisdom Teeth Removal

3. The Wisdom Teeth Removal Procedure
The extraction process varies depending on the position of the teeth and their level of impaction.
3.1 Initial Consultation
The dentist will perform a thorough examination and take X-rays to assess the teeth.
A treatment plan will be discussed, including sedation options if required.

Expert Oral Surgery Services in West Covina: Your Guide to Better Oral Health
Oral health is integral to your overall well-being. The state of your mouth affects your ability to speak, eat, smile, and even affects your confidence and self-esteem. While regular dental checkups are essential, there are times when more advanced care is necessary, such as in the case of oral surgery. For residents of West Covina, oral surgery West Covina offers a range of expert services aimed at restoring, enhancing, and maintaining optimal oral health.
In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the role of oral surgery, the various procedures offered, the benefits of seeking specialized care, and how expert oral surgery West Covina can make a difference in your overall dental health. Whether you need tooth extractions, dental implants, or more advanced treatments, understanding your options can help you make informed decisions that promote long-term oral health.
What Is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery refers to a broad range of surgical procedures performed on the teeth, gums, jaw, and other oral structures. These surgeries are usually carried out by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, who have specialized training beyond regular dentistry. This expertise allows them to handle complex procedures, addressing issues that can’t be treated by conventional dental care.
In general, oral surgery West Covina covers everything from minor tooth extractions to more extensive procedures such as jaw alignment surgery or dental implants. Regardless of the complexity of the surgery, oral surgeons in West Covina use advanced techniques to ensure that the patient experiences minimal discomfort while achieving the best possible results.
When Is Oral Surgery Necessary?
There are a variety of reasons why someone might need oral surgery. These reasons could range from simple dental issues to more complex conditions. Here are some common scenarios where oral surgery may be necessary:
Tooth Extractions: This is one of the most common types of oral surgery. If a tooth is severely decayed, damaged, or infected, or if a tooth is impacted (such as with wisdom teeth), it may need to be extracted.
Wisdom Teeth Removal: Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are located at the back of your mouth and typically emerge in late adolescence or early adulthood. If they don’t have enough space to grow properly, they can become impacted, causing pain, swelling, or infection. In such cases, oral surgery West Covina can provide relief by removing the problematic wisdom teeth.
Dental Implants: Missing or severely damaged teeth can be replaced with dental implants. This procedure involves surgically placing a titanium post into the jawbone, which then fuses with the bone over time, providing a stable base for artificial teeth.
Correcting Jaw Issues (Orthognathic Surgery): Sometimes, people suffer from malocclusion, or misalignment of the upper and lower jaws. This can cause difficulty chewing, speaking, and breathing. Orthognathic surgery, also known as jaw surgery, can correct these issues, improving both the function and appearance of the jaw.
Bone Grafting: In cases where bone loss occurs in the jaw (due to injury, decay, or missing teeth), a bone graft may be necessary to restore the jaw's strength and structure. Bone grafting is often a preparatory step for the placement of dental implants.
Treatment of TMJ Disorders: The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the jawbone to the skull. Disorders in this joint can cause jaw pain, headaches, and difficulty moving the jaw. Severe TMJ disorders may require surgical intervention to relieve the discomfort and restore jaw function.
Oral Cancer Treatment: In some cases, oral surgery West Covina may be needed to remove cancerous growths or tumors from the mouth, gums, or throat. Early detection and intervention are key to successful treatment of oral cancer.
Types of Oral Surgery Procedures Offered in West Covina
1. Tooth Extractions
Tooth extractions are often required when a tooth is beyond repair due to decay, infection, or trauma. The extraction process can be simple or surgical, depending on the condition of the tooth and its root. In a simple extraction, the tooth is pulled out directly, while in a surgical extraction, a small incision may be made in the gum tissue to remove the tooth.
Oral surgery West Covina offers both types of extractions, with a focus on ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure. The surgeon will use local anesthesia or sedation to minimize pain, and aftercare instructions will help reduce any swelling or discomfort during recovery.
2. Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars at the back of the mouth. Often, they do not have enough space to grow in properly, which can lead to impaction. When wisdom teeth are impacted, they can cause pain, swelling, and potential infection.
In these cases, oral surgery West Covina provides expert wisdom teeth removal. This surgery is typically done under local anesthesia or sedation, and recovery is generally quick with the right post-surgery care. Removing impacted wisdom teeth at the right time can prevent more severe dental complications in the future.
3. Dental Implants
Dental implants offer a permanent solution for missing teeth. The procedure involves placing a titanium post into the jawbone, which acts as an artificial tooth root. Over time, the bone integrates with the implant, providing a stable base for a crown or other prosthetic tooth.
For individuals who are missing teeth or need tooth replacements, oral surgery West Covina offers a comprehensive implant procedure that restores both function and aesthetics. The implants look and feel just like natural teeth, improving both your oral health and self-esteem.
4. Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery)
In some cases, misalignment of the jaw can lead to difficulty in chewing, speaking, and even breathing. Severe malocclusion can also result in facial asymmetry. Orthognathic surgery, or jaw surgery, can correct these issues by repositioning the upper or lower jaw.
Oral surgery West Covina specializes in jaw surgery, which is often required in cases of congenital jaw deformities, injury, or disorders like sleep apnea. After the surgery, many patients experience significant improvements in both the functionality and appearance of their faces.
5. Bone Grafting for Dental Implants
When a patient has experienced bone loss in the jaw (whether from trauma, gum disease, or missing teeth), bone grafting may be required before a dental implant can be placed. Bone grafts restore the structure and density of the jawbone, providing a secure base for the implant.
At oral surgery West Covina, oral surgeons use advanced techniques and materials for bone grafting, ensuring the success of future dental implant procedures.
6. TMJ Surgery
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders can cause symptoms like jaw pain, difficulty opening and closing the mouth, and headaches. In some cases, surgery may be needed to correct the dysfunction of the TMJ.
If non-surgical treatments have failed, oral surgery West Covina can offer advanced surgical options to alleviate symptoms and improve jaw function. The goal is to relieve pain, restore normal movement, and prevent further damage to the jaw joint.

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, often require removal due to complications such as impaction, overcrowding, or pain. For residents in Western Sydney, wisdom teeth removal in Parramatta is a standard dental procedure performed by skilled professionals to maintain oral health. This article will guide you through the process, including reasons for removal, the procedure itself, and tips for a smooth recovery.
Why Is Wisdom Teeth Removal Necessary?
Prevent Impaction: When wisdom teeth do not have enough room to emerge, they may become impacted. This can cause pain, swelling, and infection.
Avoid Overcrowding: Wisdom teeth can push against adjacent teeth, leading to misalignment or crowding, especially if you’ve had orthodontic treatment.
Prevent Tooth Decay and Gum Disease: Partially erupted wisdom teeth are difficult to clean, increasing the risk of cavities and gum infections such as pericoronitis.
Address Cysts or Damage: In rare cases, impacted wisdom teeth can develop cysts, which may damage nearby teeth, gums, and bone.
Relieve Pain and Discomfort: Even without visible issues, wisdom teeth can cause discomfort or headaches due to pressure on your jaw or other teeth.
What Happens During Wisdom Teeth Removal In Parramatta?
Initial Consultation: Your dentist or oral surgeon will evaluate your wisdom teeth using X-rays to determine their position and whether extraction is necessary.
Discussing Anesthesia Options: Depending on your needs, the dentist may recommend local anaesthesia, sedation, or general anaesthesia to ensure a comfortable experience.
Extraction Procedure:
Simple Extraction: If the wisdom tooth has fully erupted, the dentist will loosen and remove it with minimal effort.
Surgical Extraction: The surgeon may make an incision in the gum and remove the tooth in sections for impacted teeth.
Post-Procedure Care: The dentist will place gauze over the extraction site to control bleeding and provide aftercare instructions to promote healing.
How Can You Prepare For Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Discuss Health History: Share your medical history, allergies, and current medications with your dentist to ensure a safe procedure.
Plan Your Schedule: Arrange time off from work or school and ensure you have someone to drive you home after the procedure, especially if sedation or general anesthesia is used.
Stock Up on Essentials: Prepare soft foods, cold compresses, and any prescribed medications in advance to make recovery easier.
Follow Pre-Surgery Instructions: Avoid eating or drinking for a specified period before surgery, as advised by your dentist, especially if sedation will be used.
Ask Questions: Clarify any doubts about the procedure, risks, or recovery process to feel confident going into the surgery.
What Should You Expect During Recovery?
Managing Pain and Swelling:
Use over-the-counter or prescribed pain medications as directed by your dentist.
Apply ice packs to reduce swelling during the first 48 hours.
Dietary Adjustments:
Stick to soft foods like yogurt, soup, and mashed potatoes for the first few days.
Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods that could irritate the surgical site.
Oral Hygiene:
Avoid brushing near the extraction site for the first day. Afterward, rinse gently with warm salt water to keep the area clean.
Refrain from using straws, as sucking can dislodge the blood clot and cause dry socket.
Rest and Recovery:
Limit physical activities for a few days to allow your body to heal.
Follow your dentist’s recommendations on when to return to normal routines.
Monitor for Complications:
Watch for signs of infection, such as fever, excessive swelling, or persistent bleeding, and contact your dentist if needed.
