Meeting with the donors part 1
So, I expressed interest in two donor family profiles. One is out in Oregon, the other is local to my metro area (and whose embryos are at the clinic I go to). The area I live in isn't terribly big - just for an example of how small it is - I found the second donor's profile on LinkedIn, going off of her job, and who her employer was most likely to be based on my knowledge or local organizations. So, I met with the first donor - a straight couple. They seem like very nice people. Like I'm finding is pretty common, they used an egg donor, so the child is only genetically related to the father. They seem like nice people. I think they'll be agreeable to the type of contact I'd prefer.
I don't know if the second donor family will "match" with me. I suspect they will, it's a SMBC - and we seem like people who have a lot in common. While the child's genetics are wholly donor - if I pick them, my child would have a sibling in the area, and they could have a closer relationship. From a pragmatic POV, it'd likely be faster/cheaper to go with them.
I think I'll reach out to the coordinator and see if we can stall until I hear from the second family (should be this week ideally).

The Pea That Was Me: An Embryo Donation Story By Kim Kluger-Bell
Tumblr media
A great way to introduce children ages 3-5 to the idea that "some very nice people donated a tiny pea" to help bring them into the loving arms of their parents.
Geared towards heterosexual couples who used embryo donation, the very basic concepts that it takes an egg, a sperm and "a tummy" to make a baby and that "mommy's eggs and daddy's sperm weren't working quite right". The emphasis is on how much the child was wanted and how delighted mommy and daddy were when the child joined the family!

Embryo Adoption Ethics and Values for Life
Embryo adoption raises ethical questions rooted in values of family, identity, and reproductive rights. The process involves the transfer of donated embryos to infertile couples, offering hope for parenthood. However, considerations surrounding consent, genetic connections, and the well-being of the child prompt deep reflection. Understanding the complex dynamics and ethical implications is crucial for informed decision-making in embryo adoption journeys.

What is embryo donation and how does it differ from traditional adoption?
Tumblr media
Embryo donation and traditional adoption are distinct processes, each involving unique aspects. Here's an overview of both:
Embryo Donation:
1- Biological Connection:
In embryo donation, the biological parents (donors) provide the embryo, which is then transferred to the uterus of the recipient woman. The recipient woman carries and gives birth to the child, establishing a biological connection.
2- Conception Process:
The embryos used in donation are typically created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) during fertility treatments. Excess embryos from couples who have undergone IVF and have completed their family may be donated to others struggling with infertility.
3- Medical Procedure:
Embryo donation involves a medical procedure similar to IVF, where the embryos are thawed and transferred to the uterus of the recipient during a carefully timed cycle.
4- Legalities:
Legal agreements are established between the donors and recipients, outlining parental rights and responsibilities. The legal aspects may vary by jurisdiction, and it's essential to have clear, well-defined arrangements.
Traditional Adoption:
1- Biological Connection:
In traditional adoption, there is no biological connection between the adopted child and the adoptive parents. The child may come from birth parents who are unable or choose not to raise the child, and the adoptive parents take on the legal and social roles of parents.
2- Conception Process:
Adoption does not involve the conception or birth of the child by the adoptive parents. Instead, the child is legally and socially accepted as a member of the adoptive family.
3- Legal Process:
Adoption is a legal process that establishes a permanent, legal parent-child relationship between the adoptive parents and the adopted child. The birth parents relinquish their parental rights, and the adoptive parents assume full legal responsibility.
4- Social and Emotional Aspects:
Adoption often involves a thorough screening process for prospective adoptive parents. Social workers assess the adoptive parents' ability to provide a stable and loving home for the child. The process also considers the best interests of the child.
In summary, while both embryo donation and traditional adoption offer paths to parenthood for those facing fertility challenges, they differ in terms of biological connection, conception process, and the legal and social aspects of forming a family. Embryo donation allows for a biological connection between the child and the recipient, while traditional adoption involves the legal transfer of parental rights and responsibilities without a biological connection.

What is embryo donation?
Another ART option is embryo donation, which allows couples who are unable to conceive using their own gametes (eggs and sperm) to receive embryos from donors. Individuals or couples who have undergone fertility treatments and have surplus viable embryos typically donate these embryos.
Embryos Donation: Matching Donor and Recipient Embryo donation involves matching the recipient to suitable embryos from donors. Physical characteristics, medical history, and personal preferences may all be taken into consideration during the matching process.
Preparing the Recipient: The recipient's uterine lining is prepared for embryo implantation by hormone treatments prior to embryo transfer.
Embryo Transfer: When the recipient's uterus is ready, the chosen embryos are thawed (if cryopreserved) and transferred into the recipient's uterus via a thin catheter. This procedure is relatively simple and does not usually require anesthesia.

KOSA Bill. In three days, the bill will either pass or be disgarded. Please reblog and sign petitions. to help stop the bill by going to the stop kosa tag so we can not let the bill pass!
The definition of not safe for work content that would be censored under KOSA is vague and would of course target the LGBT community.

The story so far...
So, I'm old now, my eggs are not terribly great, but I did begin this process in my early 30s back when my eggs should've still been fine.
TL;DR - I've had a ton of injections, pills, multiple operations, a ton of money... and no confirmed pregnancies. So, I've decided to give up on my eggs and because I don't have a known sperm donor my heart was set on, I'm going to go for using a donor embryo.
The world of embryo donation is wild. If you just google it, you'll find a lot of really creepy Christian sites talking about "adopting snowflake babies" and requiring "Christian married straight couples only", requiring a home study, and other things that are deeply uncomfortable if you see embryos just about a hundred cells. Also, as a divorced lesbian, I wouldn't met their requirement.
Thankfully my RE pointed me to a group that takes a less... theological... approach. I had to create a profile and pass a background check. Really easy.
I began being shown profile before my application was even complete. I'm going to meet with a potential donor family on Monday. If they're a match, I'll pay a big bill, we'll get assigned lawyers and therapists and the like - for a transfer in 3-4 months.
