Having a tribute experience was so overwhelming and special! You watch him perform, flirt, shimmy, belt, laugh, sweat, and are served with the reminder that you’ll never witness that in person. But with the tribute artists, especially those who are truly dedicated, you get a little closer to what that in person experience was like. I was so starry eyed and flustered, i did not know what to do with myself but stare in amazement, and look away when I became overwhelmed. My cheeks hurt from smiling. I see now why the tribute artists are passionate about keeping his presence alive, and I have so much respect for them! ❤️✨

ooooh juicy question! full disclosure, i’ve never seen an ETA in person, but i have many thoughts!
firstly, do i think EPE coined the term ‘ETA’ for financial reasons? absolutely. that being said, i actually like having a distinction between ETAs and impersonators because i think there is a huge difference in intention between the two groups. when i think of ETAs, i think of people like dean z and shawn klush. these guys put a lot of time and effort (and money) into their work and so many of them are so talented!! to me, it feels in the same vein as the elvis movie - we loved the movie because austin butler put so much energy into really embodying the spirit and charisma of elvis. ETAs are doing the same thing in a different way. of course there are going to be bad apples in the bunch, but in general, i think ETAs who are serious about it are trying their best to honor his art and his legacy, and they care about the fans because at heart, they are fans themselves.
in contrast, when i think of impersonators, i think of the people on the streets of vegas wearing costumes they bought at spirit halloween. they’re going into it with the intention to make fun of him to get a laugh or money or whatever. they don’t see elvis as an artist or even a human really - they see him as a caricature. they’re not doing an imitation, they’re creating a parody. and that’s a big difference.
aaaaanyway that’s just my two cents! 🫶🏻 i would love to see an ETA one day!!
I’m curious about everyone’s opinion here. I’ve seen people talking about the ETA’s lately. Especially the whole ETA thing at Graceland and this past Elvis week. I guess some people don’t like them? A lot of people think that they focus too much on the ETA’s at Graceland.
Then I saw someone post a video clip of someone saying ETA’s were never a thing, they were just impersonators. They think EPE saw that and decided to come up with the term ETA and make money off of it. Which that’s possible. I mean I’m sure those shows alone make them tons of money. It costs enough.
I don’t really have any feelings about ETA’s because I’ve never actually seen one or experienced it. I would like to just to see what the hype is about and just the experience. But I’m curious how everyone else feels about them?

ladies and gentlemen, after some tears and managing to pull myself together, i have an exciting announcement!!
january 30 is my 17th birthday, so it only seemed fitting that i do something elvis-related to celebrate it! the opportunity presented itself, so i took it. without further ado…
i saw ryan pelton and shawn klush in concert, front row. 🥹
i got a teddy bear from ryan, and a scarf from shawn; i also got ryan’s tie, which is something he never usually gives out so i was over the moon about that!
me and my ma stayed at the hard rock in atlantic city, so we also saw elvis’ rolls royce phantom V and his adonis suit worn for the live at madison square garden album.
they also had a green shirt he wore in the 60s, and his light blue silk pajamas!
seeing (and doing) all of this was beyond anything i’ve experienced. seeing ryan really had the 50s vibe, that feral excitement and joy! while seeing shawn was more mellow and calm. during both of their performances, i closed my eyes for a few seconds and was able to hear elvis’ voice, and feel his energy, come through them.
they do truly do him some justice.
i also brought my 35mm camera with me, but those need to get developed, so more photos are soon to come!!
-with a full heart, cicilia xx

was looking at presley's insta and the first thing i clicked on was this:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/Csr9vaGJmmy/?igshid=YmM0MjE2YWMzOA==
the first lyrics r so elvis inspired i love it sm!!
ahhhh i love this! it never ever stops astonishing me how powerful his presence continues to be in music and as an inspiration to other artists, it's such a vibrant way to keep love for him alive. 💖
#chelsea and i were talking about tribute songs the other night#because i looked up wynonna judd's cover of burning love and came up with a song she wrote inspired by him instead#called sometimes i feel like elvis#and last year she said: he had more soul in his pinky than all of us combined#what particularly moves me is how an overwhelming majority of songs about him or reflecting on and capturing him#are written/performed by women#and even current artists (lana/phoebe/florence/gaga/miley/etc etc) referencing him and being influenced by him and dedicating lyrics to him#of course it makes sense presley would given her name!!!#i just love it so much...he's still with us because he's so influential and remembered#anonymous#letterbox#i was a dreamer

[BEHIND THE RECORD - Elvis onstage from 1969 to 1977] "I Can't Stop Loving You"
Written by country singer Don Gibson, who first recorded it in 1957, RCA Victor released "I Can't Stop Loving You" in 1958, and it became a country hit single. The song was covered by many artists over the years, most notable one being Ray Charles, in 1962, due to how he turned the tune into a No. 1 single on the Billboard chart.
Elvis Presley performed the song in many iconic concerts of his career - from 1969 into the 70s.
The first time Elvis Presley was recorded singing "I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" was during one of the American Sound Studio sessions, on February 1969. It wasn't an official recording tho. A jam version of the tune was recorded while EP was warming up with his musicians so they could cut the songs that would be released in his LPs for the times following — "From Elvis In Memphis" being the album this recording session was intending to create at first.
Not long after this recording session, "I Can't Stop Loving You" was worked up as a number to Elvis' concerts. Rearranged, the song gained a more dramatic tone than we can listen to from how it originally sounded in Elvis' voice at the recording taped at the American Sound Studio previously, so from this moment on Elvis would perform the tune in quite a few iconic concerts of the latter era of his career, the very start being during his comeback to live performances on July/August 1969, onstage at the International Hotel's showroom in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Soundboard audios with "I Can't Stop Loving You" recorded during his concerts, including in 1969, were released on some his live albums throughout the years, such as "FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS (IN PERSON)" [recorded in 1969], "ELVIS AS RECORDED AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN" (recorded in 1972) and "ELVIS: RECORDED LIVE ON STAGE IN MEMPHIS" (recorded in 1974).
Live performances of Elvis singing the song were also officially taped, and they are very known to the fans for obvious reasons because they are part of some of the most notable moments of Elvis' history as a performer.
First official taping of EP performing "I Can't Stop Loving You" live took place during one of his engagement seasons at the International Hotel on August, 1970, as released on "Elvis: That's The Way It Is" documentary, then again on April 1972, filmed for "Elvis On Tour" documentary, and not long after that another performance of this tune was filmed during the "Aloha From Hawaii via Satellite" concert, on January 1973.
BUT, BEFORE WE CAN GO TO THOSE FOOTAGES, HAVE YOU LISTENED TO THE JAM VERSION RECORDED IN STUDIO IN 1969?
— NOTE FROM AUTHOR I love sharing Elvis' performances of the same song over the years, but what I would really love you to listen to now is the 1969 jam version of the song we're talking about, for it sounds so different from the live performances the fans are already very familiar with. I didn't knew about this recording until a few days ago and I loved it so much that this track is the reason why I needed to talk about this song. You will read about the moment EP was recording this song soon after.

Album: American Sound 1969 (2019)
It was an American Studio tradition: paying tribute to the chief with a rendition of “This Time,” a Chips Moman-penned hit for Troy Shondell in 1961. Elvis had heard about the rite, and he serenaded his producer at the start of the February session with the few lines that he knew, segueing into Don Gibson’s “It’s My Way,” a song he had asked Freddy to check out the year before. Plunking along on his acoustic guitar, laughing at his own mistakes but singing his heart out, he drew the band into another Don Gibson number, “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” which he would transform into a dramatic show-stopper six month later in Las Vegas. Excerpt from "Elvis Presley: A Life In Music" by Ernst Jorgensen and Peter Guralnick.

I can never get enough of how Elvis' history is so amazing. ♥
What are your thoughts about the jam version of "I Can't Stop Loving You" by EP? I'd love to hear from you.
By the way, do you like this track-to-track-history posts? I've written some so far but I have some others I'd like to share too. If you have any requests, any Elvis Presley songs you'd like to know more about the recording sessions or comparisons of the times a same tune was performed live by Elvis over the years, feel free to hit me with it. I sure will have great fun researching it for you.

Vegas Reflections ❤️
Things I really enjoyed:
There’s Elvis stuff, history, and tribute artists literally everywhere!
I can’t wait to come back and stay at the Westgate, and there’s a tram from the hotel that will take you to the strip so you may not need a car!
There are weddings literally all day, everywhere, so you just see all these dressed up happy people all over lol. A lot of the chapels had Elvis themes too!
Some tips:
Vegas is very overwhelming, crowded, and loud so be prepared. Have your ear plugs, and prepare for a lot of traffic and crowds within your schedule!
If you’re not used to a dry desert climate, make sure you drink lots of water and bring your lotion!
The wind! There may be some super high wind days, so that may impact your plans.
Have cash because tipping is constant!
Check the event calendar for the city before you book your trip. This weekend there was a rock festival, and they were preparing for an upcoming Formula 1 race that literally goes through the city itself, so the roads were all sorts of fucked up. Vegas always has stuff I’m sure, but those events will impact you.
We didn’t get to tour Elvis’s dressing room at the Westgate, but they do have events where that’s included, so make sure to check their website for that type of event! I believe they have the Vegas Elvis Fest there annually, so that’s another event to add to the bucket list!
I imagine there’s an Elvis related spots list for Vegas somewhere online that I need to find. The chapel from Viva Las Vegas is very close to the famous welcome sign!
