Summary: The reader starts to lose it after Jay and so many others have left her. But Riley reminds her that he's still around, and he's there to stay.

It's late into the evening when you catch Jay packing his bags in the locker rooms. Confused about where he's going with all his stuff when it should be at the hotel, you confront him.

"Jay?" You catch his attention. "What do you have all your stuff packed up for?" You ask him.

"Y/N." Jay freezes and turns around to face you. "I didn't know that you'd be here, love." He chuckles nervously.

You nod, still confused about what Jay is doing here. "Yeah. But again, are we going somewhere and you forgot to tell me?" You ask him again.

"Not exactly," Jay replies. "Y/N...I'm catching a flight back home." He explains.

"Back home?" You reply. "What? But what about work? Is this about the thing with Hikuleo? Because we can't just give up now." You insist.

Jay shakes his head, clearly not on the same page as you are. "I lost the damn match, Y/N. What the hell else do you want me to do?" Jay raises his voice at you, hands balled into fists at his sides.

"I want you to fight!" You shout back at him, face red with anger. "What? Hikuleo beats you once and you just give up? That's not the Jay White that I know."

Jay scoffs, his ego getting the better of him. "Whatever. I'm Jay White, I do what I want." He insists.

"Well excuse me, mister high and mighty." You sneer back at him. "But I was under the impression that running away like a little bitch wasn't something that 'Switchblade' Jay White was capable of."

"Oh, screw off, Y/N." Jay's fists tighten at his sides. "I'm leaving, and that's the end of it. And If you want to stick around just to hold onto what little sliver of nostalgia for how things used to be, well that's your problem. But I'm done." He turns on his heels and storms off.

"Coward!" You shout back at him as he walks off.

You stare until Jay is out of sight, then your anger slowly begins to fade into disappointment and sadness. You were sure that if you pushed him enough, then Jay would stay. He's always been stubborn. But not this time.

Defeated, you head back to the hotel. When you get to your room, Riley is back from the gym and waiting for you and Jay to return. "Hey, Y/N. There you are." Riley greets you when you come through the door. "Where's Jay at? I texted him like four times, but he won't answer me."

"Jay's gone." You reply, emotion absent from your tone as you walk over to your bed.

"Gone?" Riley replies. "Well, when is he going to be back?" He asks you.

Anger starts to well back up in your throat. You whirl around to Riley red in the face again. "Damnit, Riley! He's gone! Gone, okay!" You shout. "...And he's not coming back."

Riley flinches slightly at your outburst. But he's seldom seen you angry before. Especially not like this. "Oh." He replies to your outburst quietly with a nod.

"Riley..." You look at him with an apologetic look on your face. "I'm sorry." You sigh. "I...It's just. Why? Why'd he have to go? Why does everyone always end up leaving me?" You finally break down and fall back onto your bed in total defeat.

"Awe, Y/N." Riley hesitantly walks over to your bed and sits down on the edge of it. He sets a gentle hand on your leg, afraid that you might get the wrong idea and snap at him again. "Jay's a cunt for leaving." He attempts to make you feel better. "They all are. But you're not alone, okay? I'm still here, aren't I?"

You sniffle and slowly rise back into a sitting position. Riley remains in place at the end of your bed with a sympathetic smile on his face. "You're planning on leaving too, aren't you?" You shake your head. "I know that you and Finlay have never gotten along." You remind him.

"Leave?" Riley snorts in an attempt to lighten the mood. "Are you kidding me? I'm your ride-or-die, sweetheart. You can't get rid of me that easily, Y/N." He teases you. A hint of a smile creeps onto your face at Riley's joke and he chuckles. "There's that pretty smile."

Riley reaches forward and lifts your chin with his thumb gently so you're looking him in the face. "I've got your back, baby. Always." He promises you.

"Promise?" You reply sheepishly.

"Til death do us part" Riley nods and before you know it, he's leaning in.

Your eyes flutter shut and you feel Riley's soft lips on yours, his stubble tickling your face. You lean forward a bit and Riley pulls you into his chest gently.

"What would I do without you, Riley?" You sigh into his neck.

"Be very very sad." Riley jokes and kisses the top of your head. "Now don't you worry about David Finlay. I can handle that maniac. All you need to worry about is you and me, baby." He assures you.

You lean back up straight with a small smile on your face. Riley reaches up and wipes a stray tear from your cheek with a cheeky grin. "Screw them all, right?" You giggle. "It's the great El Phantasmo and Y/N against the world."

"You know it, gorgeous!" Riley chuckles and leans forward for another kiss.

sorry i rag on njpw a lot lol - overall i like the show a lot, they have more wrestlers that i like than hate, i prefer their tour concept over weekly tv episodes, i love the backstage commentary, i love their goofiness, their stables, but god it pisses me off that small choices in the booking can make me so upset, it just feels so easy to avoid these dumb decisions
