#Eloise’s book…blech

*ahem* now that I’ve finished (and reread RMB), an official proclamation:
Also, for the record: book Colin is INFINITELY better than TV Colin. Not that TV Colin doesn’t have his moments but WOW. Across the entire series he (and Hyacinth) is the most consistent and dynamic and delightful Bridgerton sibling. He’s a menace in the best way. At one point I firmly believed Kate should have married him instead of Anthony.
#I have complaints about all of them#(mostly that every single man behaves like an ass at some point)#(except maybe Gregory? and Michael? I can’t quite remember)#I enjoyed Daphne’s book more than I expected to but then her behavior towards the end is just awful#Eloise’s book…blech#anyway I CAN’T WAIT FOR SOPHIE#Bridgerton

No but seriously I hate Philoise and I don’t get why people think Phillip has this amazing character growth? The guy literally has to see his children being beaten by their nurse to start being a more attentive father to them, and in the second to last chapter he’s STILL thinking about Marina’s depression only in terms of how hard it was for HIM and making gross comparisons between Marina and Eloise. “Don’t you ever complain about what we have, because to me this is heaven” basically = “If you have a problem, just suck it up and pretend to be happy because my first marriage was so much worse.” Wow. Such growth. Much character development.
Also, their love epiphanies seemed so forced? FYI JQ, you can’t spend 95% of the book telling us Phillip is marrying Eloise because he wants a mother for his children + she’s a “happier” person than Marina (blech) + she makes him horny and then all of a sudden have him realize he’s in love with her. And I loathe how Eloise in her epiphany thinks “oh I actually love it when he tells me I talk too much!”
I love Eloise and I was looking forward to reading her story, but my dislike for this pairing ruined the book for me. Don’t quite hate it as much as Simon and Daphne, but that’s only because neither of them raped the other (although it’s clear that Phillip did rape Marina if you look at the descriptions of their “lovemaking”).
