The Art Of McCartney
triple
Arctic Poppy APGATEV1402
Released: November 14, 2014
This sampler works on paper only, unfortunately. The songs are great (obviously) and the artists are all excellent. I guess the production lets this amazing project down. A missed opportunity.

Faded Labels
I'm not one to excuse reprehensible behavior, but I also wonder if the term lolcow hasn't fallen out of fashion in today's more salient Progressive standards. I was watching a few horror-themed and True Crime videos last night, and came upon a creator who focused on what he called "horrorcows", or terminally isolated and awkward YouTube creators who'd ultimately gone off the deep end. Popular examples included Christine Chandler, who needs no introduction, Randy Stair and Elliott Rodgers.
Speaking as a disabled man, I've always been aware of what it feels like to be marginalized, and I've seen what happens when a failure to integrate these people in due time is manifest. I've had to deal with social workers despite my having been raised in a happy family because of my disability's needs, and as such quickly picked up on what happened with kids less fortunate than I was.
Imagine that you're born different. It probably starts with something simple, something we have a name for today - like gender dysphoria, or maybe some easily-diagnosed and treatable mental illness. Or maybe you're autistic but your parents just don't know which resources to reach for or trust. In any case, imagine that what you have is either treatable or addressable with adequate support. Now, what happens when you don't get said support?
You might start to decay, to find other means to issue cries for help. Said cries might become unconscious as you disconnect from a reality that's unfavorable to you. See Chandler's complete decompensation, sometime after declaring herself to be trans. it sort of follows that if nothing's done to bring you back, you might even start to abandon basic aspects of morality.
In simple terms, these people are and were sick, quite deeply so. Considering, it seems uncharitable to me to go from labelling them as "lolcows", which was already cringe IMO, to "horrocows".
We live in an era that sees people grow increasingly isolated from one another despite levels of interconnectedness that would stagger your ancestors not but three generations ago, and statements were already published regarding loneliness as an epidemic - especially in the Gen Y and Millennial basins.
Considering, pointing and sneering at kids who fall off the deep end and who, in their own flawed ways, tried to enact some form of change, seems misguided. It's easy to take Stair's murders or Chandler's incest at face value if you're a well-adjusted and supported individual - but what if you weren't?
I know I wasn't, for the longest time. I was lucky, however - I had family and love to bolster me in the face of my society's unwillingness to assist me. It dulled blows and allowed me to recover, but I know exactly what it feels like to have no options whatsoever and to be aware that if I wanted, I could just jump off the proverbial deep end, leave all my issues to the wider world and turn into something pitiable, barely aware and possibly grotesque.
As I grow older and as I'm now an established adult, I'm perfectly aware of how I can't take my current stability for granted.
I could've been someone else's Lolcow - so I tend not to give that term the slightest bit of acknowledgement.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Day Three, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, Calif., Oct. 6, 2024
The good folks who put on Hardly Strictly Bluegrass created an epic conundrum of good musical fortune by booking the Wood Brothers, the Infamous Stringdusters and Emmylou Harris in simultaneous, festival-closing slots. This, of course, created high anxiety as all three acts are high on any music lover’s gotta-hear list.
But more on that later. Because first, Miko Marks began the day at the Rooster stage with some Sunday soul music before 93-year-old Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, accompanied by mandolin and bass, came out yodeling on Jimmie Rodgers’ “Waiting for a Rain.” He then dug into Woody Guthrie’s “The 1913 Massacre,” got a bit uptempo on “The Cuckoo” and nodded to the Hardly Strictly atmosphere of a super-heated Golden Gate Park (on Oct. 6!) with Jesse Fuller’s “San Francisco Bay Blues.” Between numbers, Elliott regaled the squeezed-into-shady-areas fans with tales from 70 years of music making. Steve Earle then emerged to tell an overly long story over soft picking leaving Elliott to try, unsuccessfully, to get a word in as time ran down on his 40-minute allotment.
So … off to the Banjo stage where Tony Trischka’s Earl Jam was finishing “Brown’s Ferry Blues” and launching into “Lady Madonna” - strictly bluegrass style. Brittany Haas, who would appear later with Aoife O’Donovan and Hawktail, then entered the fray for double fiddling with Shad Cobb on “You Got to Die,” and putting the blues in the grass.
Peter Case, Teddy Thompson, Melissa Carper and Carsie Blanton hit the Rooster next for a Songwriter’s Circle/guitar pull with truth as the refreshing theme. A delightful exercise in the power of folk music.
But there was also blues at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass because: “If you don’t like the blues, you probably don’t like your mama.”
So said Bobby Rush on the Banjo, where the 91-year-old - “If I’m not the oldest, I’m the ugliest,” he cracked - and his big band got down and dirty in flashy sequins as they spanned 70 years of Rush originals and covers like “Hoochie Coochie Man.” Rush blew harp with the lungs of a young man, danced around the stage with the body of a young man and rapped like the OG he is, proving yet again the magic of music - even when you’re singing of your woman leaving you “for the damn garbage man.”
After a public soundcheck that signaled sublimity to come, O’Donovan, Hawktail and the San Francisco Girls Chorus - who joined one-third of the way through the 60-minute set - spanned O’Donovan’s solo discography rearranged to fit Hawktail’s musical tapestry woven of classical, jazz and bluegrass. The Chorus voices soared across Golden Gate as O’Donovan led them through songs about the battle to pass the 19th Amendment from All My Friends.
It was a stirring performance that provided some hope in an era that sometimes feels hopeless and earned a standing ovation from the Banjo stage listeners.
Down the road at Towers of Gold, Patti Smith played to a crowd so humongous people were turned away to listen to her cover Bob Dylan’s “Man in the Long Black Coat” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” read poetry and and play such songs as “Cash” and “People Have the Power” at the adjacent Swan stage, which was also rammed with festivalgoers, where the Wood Brothers were to play next and Smith’s set benefitted from stellar sound piped in from next door.
Even from behind the Towers, Smith’s performance was deeply affecting - a penetrating mix of soft-edged emotion and hard-edged aggression.
“Use your voice,” she said after using hers for 65 minutes and fans on both sides of the stage exploded in applause when she finished her gig.
Now to address the daylong conundrum, splitting up three must-see acts.
And so it transpired that Mr. and Mrs. Sound Bites caught the Woods (Hardly) playing “Little Bit Broken,” “Tried and Tempted,” “Pilgram” and “A Little Bit Sweet;” the ’Dusters (Strictly) on “Gravity” and “Rise Sun” at the Rooster; and Harris’ (country, not Bluegrass) homestretch at the Banjo, which included a rambunctious “Luxury Liner” and a mournful “Together Again.”
And then it was over …

Incels literally murder women…. feminists, radfems, 4B etc do NOT murder men. It’s insane to call feminism extremism given the state of male violence, but even if it WAS extremism it literally has no body count. Elliott Rodgers’ killing spree and the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Canada are just two very famous examples of incels who murdered women for the crime of… being women. I don’t believe you’re too stupid to understand this.
"not only are our violently criminal and terroristic threats fully justified, they are also empty and toothless!"

I was already gonna join the whole boycott on Apex Legends for August (I think that's when it is, right?). Then I played yesterday and while I genuinely was just screwing around... my teammates were having such a weird, just not-fun time. Like they were cussing each other out for everything and just sounded like they were pissed and frustrated and that's USUALLY how I used to feel playing the game before I stopped taking it seriously.
And it just makes me sad because this used to be a game I could just enjoy and chill on. Yeah I would sometimes sweat, but when it got to the point where I was seriously upset over it, I knew I had to stop.
But honestly the game just feels so, so unplayable now. Which I know a lot of other people feel is the case as well. Unless you're like... grinding hours and hours or just plain gifted lol.
It's like with Overwatch I can still get pissed, but there's a lot less pressure for me to play well vs. Apex, at least for me. Plus the Apex games seem to be over soooo fucking quick now. I'll drop and half the lobby is already gone. Like... what?
Anyway, EA you can never take Mirage Elliott Rodger Witt Apex Legends from me, he's mine now <3
