speaking of superficial physical appearance, I was trying to figure out why Jane Krakowski is bright red from the neck to the shoulders for the entirety of 30 Rock and discovered that when white people go in the sun enough sometimes we just stay red permanently. this is called Poikiloderma of Civatte, which would be a great name for a dark souls character. it could also just be blushing/flushing, she is very pale naturally I think. a lot of my relatives look like that because they moved to Hawaii in the 70s and it's pretty dire. please wear sunscreen and hats and coverage, you don't get the leathery skin and cancer until 50 years after you got the sunburn and by then it's too late. I'm still not sure why they didn't give her some dermablend but maybe the color grading and broadcast compression made it look worse in the show than it looked in camera and editing. more recent photos of her have it either covered or she's lasered it off, dpending on what was causing it in the first place

the girl who plays George in Dead Like Me is also red and raw looking on her hands especially but based on her frame I think that's probably just cardiovascular effects of underweight, you see a lot of anorexics with reddish, purplish or mottled hands like that. could be reynauds of course but it's pretty uniform so my best guess is poor circulation from actress ED, combined with her spray tan wearing off on the fingers. spray tanning natural redheads is such a terrible idea. this woman is a member of both Mensa and Intertel and for some reason also went to a car racing academy?? anyway in case you were wondering why some TV people are pink

It's strange re-watching Dead Like Me after 20 years. There were so many lessons about life and growing up that I remember learning, but now I realize they never really sunk in. Bryan Fuller gives great life advice through Rube, who is a great father figure for George. Rube takes an interest in George's afterlife and actively involves himself in contrast to George's father, who divorces himself from his family life and eventually actually divorces George's mom.
Roxy's also a great mom stand-in/contrast for Joy. They're both aloof and seemingly hostile with their constant criticism to George, but Roxy takes the time to help and advise her when necessary. Roxy knows when to get involved and support George whereas Joy is seemingly afraid to do the same. Fortunately, Joy seems to learn from her mistakes with George and tries harder to connect with Reggie.
Betty, Mason, and Daisy are all siblings without being a surrogate for George's relationship with Reggie. Betty was instrumental in demonstrating to George that she had to take an active part in her own life. Betty was a role model who encouraged her to try new things.
Mason is a loveable screwup who grows throughout the show. At first he demonstrates how not to live the afterlife and makes poor decisions. In this way, he's allowing George to learn without having to make the mistakes herself. He's also very protective of George (and Daisy) and supports her even when the other reapers give her a hard time (often because she needs to learn a lesson).
Daisy is terrible when she's first introduced, but she later calms down and seems to become genuinely concerned about George after they move into a house together. Their relationship mirrors George and Reggie's with Daisy acting as George in this relationship, and had George lived, I think the sisters would have eventually acted the same way. Regardless, Daisy-as-an-older-sister demonstrates a different kind of self-confidence that I'm glad George doesn't adopt.

Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh in Dolores Claiborne (Taylor Hackford, 1995)
Cast: Kathy Bates, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judy Parfitt, Christopher Plummer, David Strathairn, Eric Bogosian, John C. Reilly, Ellen Muth, Bob Gunton, Roy Cooper. Screenplay: Tony Gilroy, based on a novel by Stephen King. Cinematography: Gabriel Beristain. Production design: Bruno Rubeo. Film editing: Mark Warner. Music: Danny Elfman.
Stephen King is usually likened to Edgar Allan Poe, but the writer Taylor Hackford's film of King's Dolores Claiborne puts me in mind of is Dickens: the Dickens who respected melodrama and created flawed protagonists and convincing (and sometimes redeemable) villains. At 132 minutes, the movie is a little too long, but I wouldn't lose a minute of the performances by Kathy Bates as Dolores and Jennifer Jason Leigh as her daughter, Selena. Christopher Plummer, never reluctant to chew the hambone, threatens to go a bit over the top as Dolores's chief antagonist, Detective John Mackey, but Hackford keeps him under control. Judy Parfitt is superbly acidic as Vera Donovan, though it's a shame her later scenes had to be covered in old-age makeup. And David Strathairn does both the hair-trigger violence and the slimy seductiveness of Joe St. George well. It's also visually engaging, with Nova Scotia standing in for Maine, and Gabriel Beristain's cinematography making the most of the solar eclipse scenes. Dolores Claiborne has been praised for its feminist point of view, but perhaps that's because we so rarely see women dominate an American thriller as well as Bates and Leigh do.

Apparently there’s an episode of Hannibal where Ellen Muth plays a woman named Georgia who has a psychological disorder that makes her think she’s dead, who kills people, which is a pretty DARK reference to his previous show
Discovering that Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies exist in the same universe is ALMOST as wild as the suggestion they ALSO share the same universe as Hannibal

“Buffet Froid”
- I see you, Georgia. Think of who you are. It’s midnight. You’re in Wolf Trap, Virginia. Your name is Georgia Madchen. You are not alone. We’re here together. - Am I alive...?
