Finnish Tango
Since we have opened the can of Finnish tango - a genuine music genre of its own - with Control's Sankarin Tango song, here are some other tango songs from Finland. Some of these are original and some are covers. I have marked which are definitely original Finnish songs but I might have missed some.
More information about Finnish tango under read more.
MALE TANGO SINGERS (links take to Youtube)
Reijo Taipale - Tähdet meren yllä (Stars Above an Ocean) [original Finnish tango]
Sauli Lehtonen - Mun aika mennä on (It's Time For Me To Go) [an ironic tango for him as he unfortunately died young] [original Finnish tango]
Olavi Virta - Hopeinen kuu (Silver moon)
Topi Sorsakoski - Kohtalon Tango (Tango of Destiny) [he's got an extremely unique whiskey croaky voice] [original Finnish tango]
Taneli Mäkelä - Humiko-san [original Finnish tango]
Kyösti Mäkimattila - Tango d'Amore
Marco Lundberg - Tango Desirée
Amadeus Lunberg - Täysikuu (The Full Moon) [original Finnish tango]
Saska Helmikallio - Sininen huvimaja (A Blue Gazebo)
Jaska Mäkynen - Sabina [original Finnish tango]
Eino Gröhn - La Cumparsita
FEMALE TANGO SINGERS
Eija Kantola - Yön Kuningatar (The Queen of the Night) [original Finnish tango]
Marita Taavitsainen - Lottopotti (Lottery win) [original Finnish tango]
Kaija Pohjola - Miller Tango [Tango Queen 1991 and my distant relative from father's side] [original Finnish tango]
Arja Koriseva - Rannalla (On the Beach) [original Finnish tango]
Saija Varjus - Yön tummat siivet (Night's Dark Wings) [original Finnish tango]
Mira Sunnari - Myrskyöinä (On The Stormy Nights)
Elina Vettenranta - Ensi yönä (Tomorrow Night)
Merja Raski - Tunteellinen tango (Sentimental Tango) [original Finnish tango]
Tamara Lund - Lapin tango (Tango Lapland) [original Finnish tango]
Tarja Lunnas - Sinun kanssasi tähtisilmä (Together With You, The One With Sparkling Eyes) [original Finnish tango]
Typical to a Finnish tango is that it's mostly talking about yearning and misery of life. Quite often the most positive tango songs are covers translated in Finnish. R sounds is typically rolled extra hard and words are stretched to add more drama. Many male singers have a vibrating voice which adds the drama. The strong R is especially present in how men sing. Women typically sing tango with a brighter voice and tone even when a song is dark.
Finland has a tango singing competition called Tangomarkkinat. It's currently struggling, partly because the after effects of covid and younger generation preferring other genres over tango but it's still hold annually. It was aired on TV each year for decades. Tangomarkkinat crowns a Tango King and a Tango Queen. Some of the winners are still extremely well known and popular artists decades later like Arja Koriseva (Tango Queen 1989), Mika Pohjonen (Tango King 1992) and Marita Taavitsainen (Tango Queen 1995).
If you search Finnish tango by a composer you should go after Unto Mononen. He has composed the majority of Finnish tango sngs.
Many of the above songs are sung by different artists so if you search by the song name you will find new singers to listen to.
The search word for Finnish tango in Finnish is suomalainen tango.

Alicia Vikander in Ex Machina (Alex Garland, 2015)
Cast: Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Oscar Isaac, Sonoya Mizuno, Corey Johnson, Claire Selby, Symara A. Templeman, Gana Bayarsaikhan, Tiffany Pisani, Elina Alminas. Screenplay: Alex Garland. Cinematography: Rob Hardy. Production design: Mark Digby. Film editing: Mark Day. Music: Geoff Barrow, Ben Salisbury.
Screenwriter Alex Garland's debut as director has a lot going for it: a tightly provocative and suspenseful Oscar-nominated screenplay (also by Garland), a superb trio of stars, and special effects that don't overwhelm the story. The effects won Oscars for Andrew Whitehurst, Paul Norris, Mark Williams Ardington, and Sara Bennett, overcoming competitors with far more flash and dazzle: Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller), The Martian (Ridley Scott), The Revenant (Alejandro González Iñárritu), and Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens (J.J. Abrams). For once, special effects were kept on the human scale, largely to present Ava (Alicia Vikander) as the ambiguous cross between human being and robot on which the screenplay's exploration of the ethics of artificial intelligence depends. Ava (whose name is a variant spelling of "Eve") is the creation of Nathan (Oscar Isaac), a superwealthy tech genius who made his fortune with an Internet search engine not named Google, which he uses as the software for his experiment. He lures a young coder, Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), to his isolated retreat on the pretext that he wants Caleb to apply the Turing test on Ava. Nathan's unstated aims are far more extensive, and Caleb sees through them quickly. But neither of them is quite as quick on the uptake as Ava. Gleeson is convincingly geeky as Caleb, and Isaac, in yet another performance that establishes him as one of our most chameleonic actors, evokes the self-absorption and questionable ethics of any number of tech billionaires. But it's Vikander who steals the honors with Ava's sly mixture of naïveté and nascent cunning. The only thing I can fault Ex Machina for is a conventional sci-fi ending that feels out of keeping with the intelligent questioning of the middle part of the script and seems too much like a setup for a sequel.

thank you for the tag @aurathian <3
3 ships: tonight's flavors are zelink, Marin/Link, and midzel. (is it cringe to have all three from the same franchise? idk man i just haven't felt passionate enough about a pairing for it to be "my ship" for a while)
1st ever ship: Elina and Prince Nalu from Barbie Fairytopia when i was five. real ones know
last song: Bad Day by Daniel Powter
last movie: Pom Poko! highly underrated and un-talked-about Ghibli movie that really gets at issues of industrial development, and the struggles of indigenous peoples/minority groups to resist or assimilate into dominant industrialized cultures. highly recommended to everyone reading this
currently reading: Crafting the Culture and History of French Chocolate by Susan J. Terrio, Kiki Strike: The Empress's Tomb by Kirsten Miller, and The Magic Awakens by Scarlet_Curls on Ao3
currently watching: Fruits Basket S2 and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury
currently consuming: nothing. maybe i should change that
currently craving: creme brulee
tagging @farore-or-less, @pastelsandpining, and @hyylia! sorry if any of y'all have been tagged already hehe and no pressure obvs <3
Tag 9 people you want to know better
I was tagged by @life-jim-but-not-as-we-know-it :) thanks for the tag!
3 ships: Huh, well, I don’t tend to write a lot of ships myself but they’re certainly fun to read! I’d say Thrawn/Pellaeon (Star Wars) is a favorite, then maybe Sherlock/Watson (ACD Holmes specifically), and Thrawn/Car’das. Honorary mention goes to Thrawn/Nuso Esva!
1st ever ship: Well, it would have to be Steve/Tony (Marvel); that’s the fic I first started reading and that was my friend who recommended all that fic’s favorite, so that’s what I read! It was fun - back in the Avengers-Found-Family days, when I could still stand the movies.
Last song: had one of my somewhat random character playlists on while working this afternoon, so it’s Tell God and the Devil by Solas.
Last movie: Knives Out, which I finally got around to watching while home over Thanksgiving. It was a good one!
Currently reading: Just finished 1491 and 1493 by Charles Mann - nonfiction about Native Americans before and after Columbus. I’m hoping to pick up Star Wars: Rogue Planet - I finally found someone who’s read it and they enjoyed it, so I don’t have to worry it’s going to be unreadably terrible and I can finally get the lore I’m using for D&D from the source instead of Wookiepedia!
Currently watching: Whatever episode of Rebels I think will get me through my writer’s block on this one fic. Ezra’s serious voice is so hard to capture!
Currently consuming: a nice herbal tea
Currently craving: nothing at the moment, but I’ve been off and on craving pizza for a few weeks and haven’t gotten around to fulfilling it. Yet.
I love these, they’re super fun! I never know who to tag though… let’s go with: @ele-millennial-weirdo, @handbaskethell, @evarinaandlat, @jedihlaalu, @emp-roar, @nekobakaz, @jewelliffer, @loud-shimo-screes, @grand-admiral-lawn. Only if you want to! But if you want to, go for it, whether I’ve tagged you or not :)

Episode twenty two: Zero Gravity (Summary)
Tumblr media
Kate is going to celebrate a fashion event to promote her new line. With Sarah, she has to find a few models to launch it to the world. A few days before the event, Sarah is sick and has to be taken to the hospital, even though she didn’t want to. Eventually it happens to be more a little more serious than she thought, but nothing will stop Sarah to participate in the runway.
Elina takes a flight to Estonia to rediscover herself and visit her sister without telling anyone, just Alekseev. She visits the places she used to frequent and meets someoe from her past: Tinkara Kovac. All the time to think and being far from Alexander make the two come to terms eventually.
Tulia and the nuns have to organize a wedding in a record time. They have less than a week and they won’t count with the help of Tulia as she is attending Kate’s event. Some things seem to go wrong eventually, as the bride is nervous and says she doesn’t want to get married, but they get to solve all the problems... even the allergies of Ksienija.
