(dif anon) So is Ashfur grooming Shadowsight a plotline you would keep/rework in BB? I'm not so keen on the way canon used it to retcon his epilepsy, but I do think a plotline examining how clerics can be vulnerable to abuse from StarClan spirits is kinda compelling
Shadowsight's epilepsy is staying in BB, the Erins can try and take it away again over my dead body
Yes, that's staying and BB!StarClan was reworked with unfairness in mind.
This time around, I'm considering the idea that Ashfur didn't work completely alone. After the events of Squirrelflight’s Horror, Silverpelt's divisons are starting to crackle the stars.
Skystar and the other more traditional spirits are losing patience with the peace that Fire Alone brings, and the ways that the code has been bent.
They feel that honor is being lost in their descendants.
Even angels disrespect the collective; see how Skypelt has its own heaven? With a demon in its midst? There is blasphemy even in the skies.
Firestar and the more modern pantheon are ferociously defensive of the choices of the living. StarClan exists for them; not the other way around.
Meanwhile, Mousefur has gone missing. Others start to blink out, too. This is causing panic... and Ashfur keeps it quiet that he's the only one who knows where they've gone.
The angels that plan action probably were a small group to begin with, radical spirits. Skystar and Ashfur are two of them, and Ash is the "youngest." So when he comes down to the mortal plane and betrays them, very few other angels knew what had happened.
(I might even have a few angels be doing the various supernatural things in that first book, but slowly, Ashfur is wittling down their numbers until it's just him.)
I'm still working out specifics, but the other angels that Ashfur has consumed are giving him a massive power boost. He can use this to jump between planes freely, and he's able to do some whacky things like weave dreams and pull nightmares out of the Dark Forest.
The most important unique power he has, which he can do ALL on his own once he's absorbed enough starpower, is blast Shadowpaw with a bolt of lightning. The electric current runs through Shadowpaw's brand new scar, giving him a connection to StarClan like he's a little radio tower.
Thing is... when StarClan is blocked off, the only signal he receives is Ashfur's.
So, Shadowpaw.
From the time he was very young, Shadowkit has had an unhealthy relationship to life and death
He watched a lot of cats die before he was old enough to really understand it, and the only one who came back was Heartstar.
His epilepsy was so severe it would have been terminal. He was prepared to die as a kit.
Tawnypelt took him to the Tribe to learn more about treatments, bringing back a method of refining chamomile to manage the convulsions.
When people come back from death, it was to serve "a purpose."
He feels like he needs to be special, like he needs to find the great meaning in his life. The reason why he's still here.
In BB, there can be guardian angels. Cats you knew in life who decide to watch out for you in the afterlife. Moleflight is Jayfeather's, Shrewface is Squirrelflight’s. Ashfur poses as Shadowpaw's.
THAT is how I plan to address my criticism. Ashfur DOES build a very personal, trusting relationship with Shadowpaw, pretending to be the one who's here to give him the destiny he craves. Pretending like he's someone looking out for him.
I actually LIKE how desperate the situation was in-canon and I want to stress how none of this was Shadow's fault, so I also plan to keep that they had very little choice. Shadowpaw trusts his angel completely, and Ashfur coaches him on saying all the right things.
The older Clerics are suspicious, but... what else can they do?
Also, instead of framing this all as something Shadowpaw needs to "atone" for, I'm going to make certain cats unfairly scapegoat him for bringing the Impostor into the forest. Shadowpaw himself agrees with them, blaming himself, but he has to learn it wasn't his fault.
He DIDN'T let anyone down by failing to live up to great expectations, and there's no way he could have known that Ashfur was using him. This never happened before, he always made the choice he thought was right and tried to make up for harm done, and he's not responsible for what his abuser made him do.
I actually want to have him figure out some of this by talking to DF demons, towards the end. Cats faaaar more responsible for what they did in life than him.
Ravenwing in particular, who was also mislead by a rogue StarClan spirit, but... ultimately decided that if StarClan was right in their judgement.
He was told (by Birchface, but he still doesn't know who it was in particular) to make three kittens unsafe by revealing their parentage. His choice killed three innocent children, and lead to the Queen’s Rights.
And StarClan was furious that he'd ever believe they'd want something so CRUEL.
And even if they DID want something so cruel... "Then they wouldn't have been ancestors worth following. And that's why I believe it's right that I'm here."
As a Cleric, he had authority on their behalf. And if they would misuse it through him, he wishes he could have just given it right back.
And Shadowsight's lightbulb goes Ding!
The very last thing Ashfur does in TBC, when the jig is up and he's about to be killed by the Lights in the Mist and a bunch of Demons who have come to defend their home, is swallow a Founder-- Skystar.
He takes the level of a true god, and reaches a nearly undefeatable level of power. Instead of black water, he's so large, malicious, and has a gravitational pull so massive it starts destroying the afterlife. It shatters the purgatory (Meadow of Young Stars) into floating cosmic fragments, and Heaven and Hell are set to collide.
Shadowsight confronts Ashfur, politely explaining that he's, well... done a lot of thinking, and, he doesn't really want what he gave him. "You can, uh, have this back!"
And blasts the lightning from his scar right back at him, like a chain, holding the screeching eldrich horror in place. Every ally he's made, here in the DF, come down from StarClan, and as Lights in the Mist, jump to his side. They can't hold down Ashfur, but they can hold SHADOWSIGHT
While they're all supporting him, Bristlefrost sees the one chance to get rid of him, once and for all. A clear shot. She bolts, pounces, and SHOOTS right into Ashfur like a falling star, knocking them both off the edge of the heaven he destroyed, burning up in orbit with a monster a hundred times her size.
And after that, Shadowsight has to go home and live with this.
He gave up the very connection that made him so special, and now he has to go back to being a Cleric without StarClan.
but the other Clerics accept this. They have to. They were all complicit in the choices that allowed the Impostor to rise.
What Shadowsight learns is... everyone was part of this. From those who made the follies with him, to the supporters and rebels against the impostor, to those who helped him realize his worth, to Bristlefrost who ultimately killed Ashfur.
He is valuable because living is valuable.
Everyone, and everything, matters. All cats have a role to play, and he was never alone.
I want to close him out in BB!TBC on a tea scene that parallels the various points in his life. Others used to prepare his chamomile treatments FOR him, in careful doses, because it is a very serious medicine. Now, at the end, he's the one brewing it.
A fully fledged Cleric, who realizes he's never been alone. Cats who love him were around him the whole time, making his medicine, and they'll love him even after he's given up his powerful gift. So now he's at the stage in his life where HE can make that medicine, share his wisdom with others, and find fulfillment in the skills he's acquired over a hard life brightening.
#Ashfur was a scary and terrifying villain worthy of the WC hall of fame#I will make him WORSE#I should change one of the titles to the later books to The Black Hole as a reference to BB!Ashfur swallowing other stars#Maybe the last one since that's where his bossfight happens lmao#I love the vibe of all the morally gray and post-redemption cats of BB seeing Shadow like#''Youve done nothing wrong. Youre literally just baby.''#Lmao Breeze like 'oh honey nooooo'#Lineup of guys like What Are You In For?#'Tyranny of an ancient civilization'#'Political assassination'#'Attempted murder of a child'#'Did what a bad person told me :('#And they all drop their shit to be like 'its ok youre ok youve done nothing wrong'#I kinda want to give him an honor title that means 'Whole Shadow'#In reference to the way that when you stand with a dozen people behind you#You only cast a single shadow#better bones au#BB!TBC#BB!Shadowsight

DP x DC “Why do these look like jello?”
Just a little idea I had, the prompt I created for this post was:
Jason Todd experiences a bit of ghost hunger. Once these ghosts start showing up, so do the blobs. They come in different shapes and colors, the most common blob being the electric green ones.
So why are these little green blob ghosts starting to become more and more appetizing to Jason?
(Personally I hc blob ghosts are like a quick way to consume ectoplasm, they’re also another way ghosts are formed, if a blob is around when someone dies then the person imprints and develops from the blob. Blob ghosts are meant to help form and feed ghosts, they don’t really have much of a personality, only the desire to help a ghost out.)
——————————
It had been three days since Tim had been able to capture and contain one of the green bloby ghost thingys, and Jason was set to watch it for a few hours. The birds and bats observed that it had the most reaction around him, the next being Damian and Cass.
He didn’t know how to feel about these things. They first showed up after tin can - who had more than enough guns in his suit to make Jason jealous - completely wreaked an apartment complex in Crime Alley.
Ignoring how the Terminator-wannabe screeched about hanging his pelt on the wall.
Currently, Jason was sitting in a chair, looking at a tinted green glass box that contained the best smelling thing in the whole wide world. It was green, glowing, and had the appearance of jello.
He forcefully kept his helmet on, trying to block out that - delightful, delicious, ambrosial - thick and sour smell. Jason pushed his chair back, noticing he was creeping forward, almost looming over the box.
The blob thing had two black dots for eyes, a glowing green bloby body, and was pressed up against the glass wall closest to him.
He sighed, only a few more minutes and his ghost watching shift would be over. The rest of the family would be coming down to see the test results and conclusions Tim came to.
Stretching, he took off his helmet.
He needed to breathe.
Jason took in a big breath air, an aroma of something good filling his nose, making him feel all gooey inside as he did so. Staring at the blob, his mouth started to salivate the longer he held eye contact with it.
His stomach was empty.
The pit was silent, almost with what felt like anticipation. He wondered if the blob ghost would have a texture more like a chocolate-filled doughnut or the time he emptied a jello cup and shoved the whole sugary treat in his mouth.
He hummed, the thing wasn’t much bigger than his palm, fitting snugly in the center of his hand.
When had he opened the glass box?
Jason lifted the blob ghost up to his eye level, the ambrosial scent wafting through the air. He thought he heard the elevator doors open, but it didn’t matter at the moment.
All reasonable thoughts vanished and he popped the green orb of delight into his mouth and swallowed it whole. Jason absentmindedly thought it was like sorbet but made his insides feel warm and tingly as he began to hear the rapid footsteps to his right.
He purred in pleasure, leaning back in the chair. Jason glanced at the group that was now surrounding him, someone had gripped his shoulders and was talking fast paced. There was a light panicked tone before whoever- Dick, it was Dick - trailed off, wide eyes meeting his dazed ones.
——————————
When Bruce, Cass, Damian, Dick, Steph, Duke, and Tim stepped out of the elevator, they didn’t expect the scene they were greeted with:
Jason had the blob ghost in his hand, his head was slightly turned to the left - enough that they couldn’t see his eyes.
All conversation stopped, Damian couldn’t even bite out a witty remark before their brother tipped his head back and tossed the ball of ectoplasm into his mouth.
That’s when the shouting started, Dick took off and skidded in front of Jason and put his hands on his shoulders. The rest not far behind.
“Jay? Jason!?” The eldest shook him a bit. “Can you hear me? Are you ohh…kay..?”
Dick trailed off, baby blue eyes meeting toxic green ones. A soft inhuman rumbling of satisfaction started coming from his brother’s chest.
“…what…” was the only thing Tim managed to say before Jason blinked a few times, the purring cut off and crystal blue eyes that they knew returned.
——————————
Jason was looking at Dick’s concerned gaze, he blinked.
“Uhm…”
Memories rushed back, like someone had opened a floodgate. He jerked and fell off the chair, Bruce catching him as he started to gag and cough.
He- did he really eat that thing?
The pit was silent.
Jason wheezed, dry heaving for a few seconds. Nothing came back up.
What the fuck??
Dick scooped him up, his arms wrapping around him, Jason buried his face into his brother’s neck. He remembered how amazing the blob smelt like, how light it was, how his mind turned to a gooey mess, the feeling of it sliding down his throat, how the rage receded and the pit fled his mind, how the toxic waters were vanquished and his thoughts no longer muddled.
To say he was disgusted by his own actions was an understatement. He wanted to find a nice dark and lonely hole to roll into and never crawl out of.
Jason hated the silence.
He felt more bodies press up against him, the safety of their arms, how he wanted nothing but to return the favor by keeping them safe.
Words of comfort were constantly murmured in his ears.
It would be okay.
They’ll figure this out.
We’ll always be here.
The pit was gone.
A core was formed.
His stomach was full.
———————————————
If anyone wants to expand on this (or any of my prompts really), please tag me! I live for prompts being used and creatively twisted into something light and fluffy or cold and angsty.
This took a little bit to write, it’s also a filler as I kickstart “Project GH05T” since so many of you liked it- like really, it fills me with so much joy to know that y’all enjoy my posts and want to see some more.
I won’t be doing much more for this one specifically, but think of it more like a prologue to a fic, where Jason grows a core and basically goes through half of season one of DP before Danny himself shows up like: wtf?? Who are you???
And Jason proceeds to adopt a ghost kid on the run.
Anyways, I’m a mess because of school and I have to cook dinner tonight (it’s my turn :D).
See y’all with an official addition to “Project GH05T”

Hello! I just wanted to ask: is Daemorphing finished? I love that series so much!
That's a very good question!
My intention has been to write an epilogue to the series, tying up loose threads and showing the state of the world at the end. However, all my attempts to write such an epilogue have failed. I have a graveyard of abandoned epilogue drafts on my computer. It's like I have a mental block.
I suspect the source of the mental block is that Daemorphing is so epic and has been so important to my life that my brain doesn't want to like... admit it's over? And so if I can never write the epilogue, then I don't have to admit it's over.
One thing I can say for sure: all the major plot developments of the series are over. The epilogue is just about the way the world works now, and little emotional codas of people moving on with their lives in various directions. I wish I could reassure you that I will definitely get to the epilogue soon, but I'm not sure I ever will, given how badly I'm blocked about it! If it's any consolation, here is an excerpt from one of my languishing epilogue drafts:
Eva and Cassie stood at the edge of the Sky Hive Nirx Pool, once called the Hett Simplat Pool, and stared at each other. Mercurio stood in front of a device with a screen that stood on a flexible arm emerging from the dark waters of the Pool, as if to block the screen from view. Quincy flew over the Pool near the edge, seeking the presence of a Yeerk he could not sense.
Finally, Cassie said, “Aftran wouldn’t want us to fight over this. Let’s just use the interface.”
Eva exhaled slowly through her nose. “I’ve used it before. But with her, it just feels so… impersonal.”
Mercurio sighed. “Look at us, fighting to have our privacy violated. It’s honestly sad.” He stepped aside to give them access to the interface. Eva reached out and woke the screen with a touch. It cycled through multiple languages, both spoken and displayed on the screen, asking her to choose her language and sensorium.
“English, audiovisual,” Eva said.
Quincy returned to Cassie’s shoulder. “It feels like I should be able to find her myself. But I can’t.”
“Summons,” Cassie said. “Aftran 942. Visitors: Cassie and Quincy. Eva and Mercurio.”
“Summons sent.”
The Pool interface had been invented by the Yeerks of Sky Hive. They had collaborated with the Taxxons for their technical expertise. Cassie and Eva had arranged a donation of materials, as there was not yet any mechanism in place for humans to trade formally with aliens—the negotiations were ongoing.
A hologram appeared in the air before the interface. To Cassie and Eva, she looked like any other Yeerk, and anyway sight was not how Yeerks recognized each other either. But seeing her was for them a comfort.
“Cassie, Eva,” Aftran said, or rather keyed into a Pool terminal, which converted it to sound. “Thank you for coming in person.”
“Would you rather infest one of us?” Cassie said. “This feels…”
“I know I have your permission,” Aftran said, “but now that there’s a real alternative, I don’t want to do that to you anymore. I am humbled by your trust, but I’ve been inside both of your heads, and I have seen for myself that my presence in your minds is hard on you.”
Cassie wanted to protest that it wasn’t. Aftran couldn’t violate her privacy anymore, even if she tried. “But how many times,” Quincy said in her ear, “did we agree infestation was the least worst option?”
“What does the interface show you about us?” Eva said, examining the hologram.
“I can’t naturally detect electric charges through air,” Aftran said, “but the interface can. It converts the impression of your negative charges through air into a waterborne rendition. As if you were floating in the Pool with me as electric ghosts.”
“It’s kind of like that up here too,” Cassie said.

Unraveling the Wonders of the Neuron and Brain (Part 1)
Hey there, Tumblr fam! Today, let's dive deep into the intricate world of neurons and the brain. 🧠✨
Anatomy of a Neuron
Neurons are the building blocks of the nervous system, responsible for transmitting information throughout your body. They have a unique structure, consisting of three main parts:
Cell Body (Soma): This is like the neuron's control center. It contains the nucleus, which houses the cell's DNA and controls its activities.
Dendrites: These branch-like extensions protruding from the cell body are the neuron's antennae. They receive signals from other neurons or sensory receptors, transmitting these signals to the cell body.
Axon: Think of the axon as the neuron's transmission line. It's a long, slender, cable-like structure that carries signals away from the cell body, toward other neurons or target cells.
At the end of the axon, you'll find axon terminals, where neurotransmitters are released to communicate with the next neuron or target cell.
Physiology of a Neuron
Neurons are all about transmitting information through electrical impulses and chemical signals. Here's a quick rundown:
Resting Membrane Potential: Neurons have a resting state where the inside is negatively charged compared to the outside due to the uneven distribution of ions (like sodium and potassium) across the cell membrane. This creates a potential difference called the resting membrane potential.
Action Potential: When a neuron receives a strong enough signal (usually from dendrites), it can generate an action potential—a rapid change in membrane potential. This electrical signal travels down the axon like a wave.
Synaptic Transmission: When the action potential reaches the axon terminals, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters into the synapse, the tiny gap between neurons. These chemicals bind to receptors on the next neuron, initiating a new electrical signal.
The Marvelous Brain
Now, let's shift our focus to the brain—the command center of your entire nervous system. 🌟
Your brain consists of various regions, each with specific functions. Here are a few key areas:
Cerebrum: This is the largest part and is divided into two hemispheres, each responsible for various cognitive functions like thinking, memory, and sensory perception.
Cerebellum: Located at the back of your brain, it plays a crucial role in balance, coordination, and fine motor skills.
Brainstem: Situated at the base of the brain, it controls basic life-sustaining functions like breathing and heart rate.
Hippocampus: Essential for memory formation and storage.
Amygdala: Involved in processing emotions and emotional memories.
And there's so much more to explore!

A/N: thank you thank you thank you @chloes-yellow-cup and @kimmania None of this would still be happening if not for your encouragement and support. I love you awesome nerds.
Chloe
She had wanted to drag Beca off to their room for a little more alone time but knew the second she shut the door that she would also shut out anything else and just drown herself in everything Beca Mitchell. And that wasn't an option right now. So she settled for pressing the other woman against the wall of the elevator for a hungry kiss as soon as the doors closed.
Beca’s hands came up and slid under the hem of her shirt. Power trailed like electricity everywhere the necromancer's fingers caressed against her bare skin. She could never get enough of the feel of Beca in her arms or the taste of her on her lips. She could devour and be devoured in an endless cycle and need nothing else.
And just that thought gave her pause. Without Aubrey there to temper their desire she might forget herself and make a mistake. Beca’s leg rose to hook around her waist, drawing her in closer before she could start to pull away. A low possessive growl trickled out and she reached back to grip the necromancer’s wrists and pin them above her head. Fangs lengthened and she grazed them lightly over Beca’s lip teasingly as she pulled back.
“So we’re going back to bed right?”
“Sadly no, we have work to do, remember? You’ll have to let me ravage you later.”
“Work?”
Chloe grinned and gently extricated herself from Beca’s leg and let her down before stepping back to tug her clothes into place.
“Yes. We have guests arriving soon.”
Beca frowned adorably as she searched her memory. “Oh. Right. Guests. Do we know who they are yet?”
“Yep, c’mon. I’ll show you.”
The vampire held out a hand and was pleased when Beca took it immediately. The doors slid open with a soft voiced ‘Security Level One’ as an indicator. They stepped out but Beca paused and gave the elevator a thoughtful look.
“Manners matter. Thanks, Elevator.”
Aubrey would be so proud. Chloe chuckled and guided them right into the heart of the security terminal. It was only the first of many and the smallest by far. It was only really meant as a monitoring station for the perimeter of the innocent seeming parking structure above it. At least it had been when she’d last been there, they’d made improvements since.
The few vampires that were sitting in front of large screens barely averted their gazes from them to note their presence. The redhead stopped in front of a station and pulled up the images she and Aubrey had captured earlier. Several windows popped open and Beca eased onto a stool and leaned forward to inspect them.
“What am I looking at?”
“Our security team pulled footage from public transit stations that lead directly toward the heart of the city. Conveniently just above our heads give or take a few city blocks. Look here, see the way these images here blur?”
“Fae.”
Chloe nodded and pointed to another window. The blurring was all any electronic equipment could make of strong glamor magic. To the naked eye the Fae could appear as anyone or no one at all.
“So what though? You know how many Fae folk are running around out there? You’re bound to catch a few right?”
“True. But these are just the feeds from the past day, from every station. There have never been that many this deep in the city. Too much iron and pollution, they usually stick to colonies in forests, parks if they absolutely must be in the city. And not just them. Red eyes here. Here. Aaand here. Not that we needed to see their eyes to identify them. We’ve kept track of the Alphas of most of the wolf clans.”
“So what are you saying? Wolves and Fae are converging on us?”
“Pretty sure they aren't the only ones. These are just the ones taking public transit, the ones we can see. What about people coming in their own vehicles in caravans? I wouldn’t be surprised if the Great Clans were assembling again.”
“And they’re headed here?”
Chloe clicked to open another window that showed traffic cam footage of Beca’s own long abandoned truck leading a caravan of vans, wagons, and trailers. “Oh shit, that’s my rig.”
“Not just yours. It looks like your whole carnival is leading the charge. My guess is to rescue their princess from the evil demons that stole her in the dark of night.”
It was hard to miss the irritation in Chloe’s voice and Beca gave her a long slow blink.
“Okay but you DID kidnap me in the dark of night.”
“Yeah but you like it now.”
Beca’s mouth opened slightly as she processed how she should respond to that.
“To be clear, we don’t just kidnap people and justify it with crazy hot sex after they’ve fallen in love with you and taken up your rebellious cause. Honestly, the more I talk the more I feel like I’m in a Lifetime movie adaptation of the Patty Hearst story.”
Chloe acknowledged that with a nonchalant half shrug. They were meant to be, she didn’t question that. Of course she hadn’t known they were meant to be when she’d kidnapped Beca.
Okay maybe she could see where that was a little creepy.
“Anyway. It's not like you want to go back with them. Right?”
Beca frowned at the screens again before turning to meet Chloe’s questioning gaze.
“You mean leave you and Aubrey?” She snorted at that and shook her head. “No, I'm already frighteningly comfortable in your giant bed with your fancy sheets and high pressure shower. Plus you guys have boobs. So yeah I'm good where I'm at.”
“So…then you're not going to run back to a lover?”
She wasn't usually this insecure. But Beca's old life and her new one were about to collide in a potentially messy affair. Messy in the bloody sense because she was feeling more than a little possessive.
“Wait, are you actually jealous right now?”
“Beca, I've spent more years as second best to the memory of a dead man than I care to admit. I don't think my heart can take being second to anyone else.”
It was heartbreaking to finally say out loud. It wasn’t as if she had been celibate all that time but relationships…
Her heart was already Aubrey’s to command. There was no room in it for anyone else. And truthfully her vow to the Bloodguard forbade anything else.
Chloe averted her attention from Beca’s searching gaze. The weight of it was almost too much to bear. She changed the subject before Beca could respond, hoping that the necromancer would let sleeping dogs lie.
“So what did you think of Athan?”
Beca opened her mouth then closed it and shook her head slowly. Whatever she had been about to say she decided better of it and shrugged.
“He's old as hell. And strong. I could feel it but it wasn't like most vampires. You guys bleed power all over on purpose even. It's your flex. Him…it was like he was sucking it all in.”
Chloe nodded at that and fiddled with a pen on the desk. The Council had wronged many people, not just Aubrey.
“He has to keep tight control of himself or his mind and body will completely deteriorate.”
A few of the vampires shifted uncomfortably in their seats. She didn't blame them, Athan's curse was horrific. Beca glanced around and the vampires quickly looked away.
“So what's his deal?”
Chloe hesitated and cast a glance at the other vampires. They all seemed very intent on their screens but she knew they were listening to every word.
“Athan made an enemy of the Council by choosing to live among wolves. Even going so far as to protect them from other vampires. They thought it was improper, nearly as scandalous as a vampire running off with a necromancer.”
Beca snorted at that and settled into Chloe's lap comfortably. The vampire’s arms slid around the smaller woman's waist comfortably and she smiled when the necromancer sighed happily at the contact.
“You know for soulless immoral demons vampires sure are all about the kink shaming.”
“Hm, you're not entirely wrong. The Council will use anything against you to control you and break your spirit. Your fears, your desires, and all that you hold dear.”
“Which did they use on Athan?”
Chloe's shoulders sagged, her voice went soft with pity. “All of them. They used a necromancer to curse him then slaughtered her to prevent the curse from ever being removed. And his wolves…his family…enslaved and given to Hauer.”
“I hate him already. Who the fuck is Hauer and what the fuck did he do to those wolves?”
“Our enemy. What he does to them is…it's awful Beca. He tortures them into shifting and binds them with silver bits and collars. The pain, being constantly shifted, it drives them insane. They are vicious, feral beasts and he uses his kampfhunds to do unspeakable evil.”
Beca remained silent, her face was impassive but she could feel the roiling turmoil brewing under the faćade.
“He's the guy. Right? The one behind everything?”
“I suspect, yes. What he did to Aubrey, to Athan, and so many others, must be answered for.”
Anger flared through their connection causing them both to gasp and turn toward the door just as Aubrey pushed through it. The blonde scanned the room briefly before making her way toward them at a purposeful clip.
“Uh oh someone pissed off our girl.”
Chloe smiled at the sing song statement and nodded in agreement. She loved hearing Beca claim them as her own. It helped ease the thread of uncertainty over her place in their lives. An uncertainty that melted away under the soft brush of Aubrey’s lips against her own.
The unexpected gentle affection robbed her of rational thought for a moment and she whimpered softly when Aubrey pulled away. Beca fanned herself with a hand and nodded.
“Yep that gets the heartbeat up. Okay now me.” She didn't wait for Aubrey to turn and lean in. Beca grabbed the front of the vampire’s jacket and pulled her in for a deep kiss. “That's the stuff. So what's up Horny? Who got you mad?”
“Some of our people are reluctant to face the clans.”
Beca frowned and glanced between the two vampires. “Huh, I thought I had made progress. Got Athan's approval and everything.”
Chloe winced at that. She loved the people here but they were sometimes stuck in their ways.
“That is the root of their reluctance. Athan has grown weaker, they question his sanity in the face of his condition.”
“That is ridiculous, Athan has been with us from the beginning. There is nothing wrong with his mind!”
Aubrey gave Chloe a quietly assessing look as if she too doubted his sanity, then nodded.
“If his mind is yet whole, they must fear the ravages of his curse on his body. They are afraid of what the Council will do to them for siding with the Great Clans and a necromancer. His state is a very handy reminder for them.”
Beca shifted uncomfortably and Aubrey’s direct gaze landed on her. The necromancer bit her lip as she pondered something well beyond Chloe’s understanding.
“So all this working hinges on Athan being healed of a curse no one can lift? Like if he was good they would be good?”
It only took Chloe a moment to see past the questions to understand what Beca intended.
“Beca it's impossible. So many have tried over the years, the strongest witches I have ever known, good or bad, have never been able to break this curse. You can't uncurse what he has.”
Beca crossed her arms over her chest and stared Chloe down until the redhead blew out a breath and nodded.
“Fine. But don't say I didn't warn you.”
“I'm not sure how to do it yet but I know I can help him, Chlo. You just have to believe in me.”
There were only two people she believed in with her whole heart and they were both here with her now. Chloe didn't hesitate in her response because there was no doubt in her mind that Beca could do anything she set her mind to.
“Okay. How do we do it?”
Aubrey stated the obvious that seemed to elude Chloe. “She's already done it once. But it will require more power than the three of us alone can generate.”
“That's a big ask Beca.”
Chloe would have liked to believe they would all agree but she knew that was more wishful thinking than actual reality.
“I will make them submit.”
Beca started at that and shook her head rapidly.
“No. We don't just take. You can't hope to lead the new gathering of clans like that. Last time was an emergency, this time they should have a say. If they truly believe in Athan and care about him and this fight more than themselves they'll agree to it.”
Chloe watched Aubrey struggle to accept the decision before she nodded her agreement. She didn't like it but she was trying to change and it showed. Beca relaxed and reached out to tangle fingers with Aubrey.
“Thank you.”
Aubrey brought the necromancer's hand to her lips and kissed the scarred knuckles.
“We will lead this newly unified Great Clan. The three of us together.”
Chloe blinked and looked up at them. “Wait. Who we? Us we? No I don't think…”
“Chlo, look at what you built. This place? Bringing these people together? Why not we? We believe in you as much as you believe in us. More. You're our heart, me and Aubrey are just following your beat.”
“Beca is right. You make me better, Chloe. You always have. And we can make a new way, one where you are at my side the way it should have always been.”
At their side. Where she belonged. Who could say no to that?

HOWARD CHARLES!!!!!! HE IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!
IM SO SORRY THIS ART IS ASS 😭😭😭 I FINISHED EVERYTHING AND I REALIZED I MESSED UP THE ANATOMY SO I HAD TO GO BACK AND SNAP HIS SPINE!!!!!!!!!!!! thas why everything is in 144p quality. (also shoutout to anyone who recognizes the lyrics in the art) Ok anyways well its time for character info!!! (um, it's kind of a lot)
Howard Charles (Charlie):
I gave a brief amount of info on him on my last post so its time to elaborate!! He works at the CCC, he's not exactly on the forefront of dealing with chaos, he is more or less just a repair man. Although he is just a repairman, he is experienced with electrical work. (this would come back to help Luccille later) He just chills out in their facilities, repairing stuff and making sure all equipment runs smoothly.
Charlie is actually quite interested in investigating anomalies, mostly cause he is an anomaly himself. His chaos levels are too low for the CCC to exterminate him. The CCC hired him in order to monitor him incase something happens with his chaos levels. His "anomalous property" is literally just having a brick head... Absolutely no one knows how or why he has it, not even himself. His abnormality is so pointless that he just functions like your average stickman, infact it leans more towards being an inconvienence cause he needs to get head accessories specifically tailored to fit his block head... He wants to figure out why he has a block head.
"What am I..... Why do I even exist..... Why am I like this???" -Howard having an existential crisis probably
^^^such a miniscule detail but his hair is fluffy and when he puts his hat on it makes his hair sad and flat (this is visible in the last post i made of him and Luccille)
In terms of personality, he's a chaotic fella and he likes to do dubious things. He's not exactly stupid, he just likes pulling stupid stunts. He is kinda selfish and doesn't really care for other's lives that much. He doesn't mind killing people, which is kinda reflective on how the CCC would do anything to terminate chaos. If its for the better, he'd hurt someone without thinking much about it. (Meeting Luccille makes him start to question this way of thinking)
Oh and some miscellaneous stuff, his primary weapon choice is a pipe wrench. He also uses other tools like crowbars and regular wrenchs, its just that he prefers the pipe wrench out of all of his choices. When he's not busy trying to figure out what he is, Charlie is particulary interested in the Toppat Clan. The toppat clan is a chaotic nightmare for the CCC!!!! (genuine question, how does the CCC respond to anomalous things in the toppat clan..) Anyways, Charlie is quite fascinated by the process of fusion, it seems that fusion is an advantage used by the toppats in battle.
Idk what else to add.... If i remember any missing info I'll edit this post!!!

I was standing in Terminal 4 at JFK far away from the impatient scrum of people waiting near my gate for a Delta agent to announce it was their turn to board. As I watched passengers who’d arrived on other flights step around this pool of people buried in their phones, so desperate to be sitting on the plane instead of standing inside the airport, I thought about a review of William Gibson’s 2012 book of essays called Distrust That Particular Flavor, a book I’ve never read.
In “Distrust That Particular Flavor,” Gibson pulls off a dazzling trick. Instead of predicting the future, he finds the future all around him, mashed up with the past, and reveals our own domain to us as a science-fictional marvel… I glanced up from the pages of this book and surveyed the street-side around me, I felt as if I were wearing Gibson-glasses. Cars lumbered past like ponderous elephants of rusty steel, not so different from the cars of 30 years ago, and seemed not to belong in the same world as the tattooed kid punching code into his laptop nearby. Under the spell of this book, I suddenly understood my surroundings not as a discrete contemporary tableau but as a hodgepodge of 1910, 1980, 2011 and 2020. -Pagan Kennedy, NY Times
I am several steps removed: I was remembering reading a review of a book published 12 years ago that was filled with writing previously published in magazines decades earlier. I could have easily downloaded a digital copy of the book on my phone and started reading the source material, but instead, I searched Google for the most pared-down version of what I wanted to remember from Gibson’s writing, that single quote that encapsulated what I was thinking at that moment:
“The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed.”
The night before my trip, my phone buzzed and the Delta app offered a tantalizing deal: a few thousand miles to move from the 22nd row of the Main Cabin to Delta Comfort+, one row behind First Class, where I knew there was enough room to cross my legs like I’m on a park bench or extend them as if at home sitting in a recliner. I looked at my phone from my bed and moved my left leg. I felt my knee pop. I hit the button and ordered the nicer seat. “The future is now!” I thought as I rolled over, then checked my 2-3 more times that the alarm on my phone was set correctly before finally falling asleep.
I was flying to visit my family in North Carolina, where I would ride from the Charlotte airport to my parents’ house in a fully-electric SUV, stuck the whole way behind gas-powered lowrider motorcycles and one massive Ford that billowed black smoke from silver exhaust pipes sticking up like goalposts on the back of the truck’s cab. All the while, I’d see how developed the suburbs of Charlotte were becoming, whole blocks of houses and high-rises popping up like dandelions, covering what used to be open fields. I’d watch the Uber app on my phone continually update me on the status of the route, reestimating our ETA every few minutes as we sat in traffic. I would spend the ride glancing from my phone to the map on his dashboard, and wonder how we ever survived before GPS. Between the airport and our destination, we made all but 3 turns.
Before any of that happened, though, before any of the thoughts about watching the future blossom all around me while the past angrily revved its fossil-fueled engines up and down I-77, I had to survive the flight from NYC to Charlotte.
As I scanned the bright open space at JFK, I saw a freckled woman my age sitting alone covered in a yellow blanket. She appeared to be on the verge of tears. Since I was about to take my own emotionally taxing trip, one to see my sick father while his pain was still somewhat manageable, I considered asking simply if she was OK. Then I saw her take out her phone to text someone, and suddenly I couldn’t gauge if she was sad or severely hungover. I remembered that airports (outside the Midwest) aren’t for chatting up strangers. She was in her own little world and didn’t need a man’s halfhearted prying. Everyone in the airport was in sweatpants and pretending they were in their living rooms, pretending to be alone on the couch instead of sitting in a wide room with a hundred other miserable tired people. My attention turned to the black toddler in a green shirt stomping on the bright white linoleum and laughing. He was in a better mood than any adult I could see from my vantage point. His mom called him and said it was time to get on the plane.
We idled at the gate for twenty extra minutes after everyone was in their seats. I read a book on my phone and smiled to myself when I realized the plane door was closed, meaning no one else would be joining me in my row, hence the desperate offer from Delta the night before asking if I wanted a seat for much less than the price when I had originally bought the ticket. This was going to be the most comfortable flight I ever took. The only issue was that several people had left their window covers open, and the Sun was starting to heat up the cabin. A child directly behind me complained to her grandma about her discomfort, a baby cried from the back of the plane, and the toddler I had seen earlier, sitting on his mother’s lap three rows back, was wailing. The mother of the toddler was also traveling with her ailing mother who I’d seen pleasantly thanking the Delta staff earlier for bringing her to the plane in a wheelchair. They were both Southern black women wearing beige sweats from head to toe, and until this moment had spent the holding period at the gate pleading with the kid to “come on and be quiet now” and insisting to passengers around her that he usually doesn’t act this way on planes. I heard people around her say “It’s just fine” and “how old?”
A flight attendant, who I’d recently watched serve booze to everyone in First Class (why not, It’s 10:30 AM somewhere), warned over the loudspeaker that the routine demonstration on plane safety was about to begin. I always feel rude for continuing whatever I’m doing while another human being stands in the aisle showing me how not to die. Remembering to keep my seatbelt fastened during turbulence or to put my oxygen mask on before assisting others could save my life, and yet I sit there, fully ignoring the speech even as a member of the flight crew uses the plastic cover directly above my head to demonstrate how the yellow mask will flop down as we’re all screaming and crying and can’t remember our training. The flight attendant held the mask with both hands inches from my face and I kept reading. This dismissive attitude toward the safety speech is all the stranger when I remember that my biggest fear is dying in a plane crash.
I was once on a JetBlue flight that hit some rough air. I distracted myself by watching Marvel’s Iron Man 3 on the back of the seat in front of me (this was before I became a professional flyer and brought my own screens with me). There’s a scene in the movie where Tony Stark’s house is destroyed by a helicopter. Right before Stark successfully shoots down the flying assailant, the movie jumped abruptly to the next scene. JetBlue doesn’t edit anything sexy from in-flight entertainment, but they will cut anything that reminds you of your potential fiery death in a plane crash. When I noticed what had happened, I laughed to myself. How silly to think people would be scared by a Marvel movie. Then I thought, “maybe they cut those scenes because crashing is so common and they want you to forget. Why would they cut the scene if it weren’t an actual event that happens all the time?” I worked myself up over not seeing a plane crash in a movie while I was on a plane. I panicked over the absence of a frightening image. That’s how nervous I get on airplanes.Scary stuff.
We were at the step where the flight attendants walked the entire aisle with one hand sliding against the white plastic covers of the overhead compartments to make sure they were secure when the woman holding her crying toddler walked up to my 75%-empty aisle.
“I think if he had a little more room, he’d be fine,” she said to the flight attendant who already had her hands up defensively. “Can we take these empty seats if no one else is coming?”
“It wouldn’t be fair to the people who paid to upgrade.” The flight attendant shook her head as she spoke.
“Well, can I upgrade?” The woman asked.
Sternly, the flight attendant said: “It’s too late for that.”
The woman turned to go back to her seat, and in a huff said “I’m never fucking flying Delta again. Fuck this shit.” As she sat down in her seat, she claimed loudly “if I were a white woman, they’d give me that seat.”
Her mother sitting in the seat next to her backed her up: “I know that’s right.”
“Excuse me,” I said to the flight attendant, she leaned down, all teeth and painted eyebrows.
“Yes, sir?” she said.
“I’m happy to switch with her if it makes things easier.”
Before she could answer, the white grandma behind me objected “Yeah, nuh uh! - no, thank you!” Without looking in her direction, I put my hand up to block her face from my peripheral vision and thought “Adults are talking.”
I continued: “I understand not giving her a seat, but if I’m fine with it, it’s OK to swap, right?”
The flight attendant, with a smugness that reminded me of my Third Grade teacher, said “We don’t reward bad behavior.”
