The Electric Boats Market size is projected to grow from USD 3.3 Billion in 2023 to USD 7.7 Billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 13.0% from 2023 to 2030. The growth in Electric Boats Industry is driven by technological advancements in boats and electrical systems, environmental concerns, and changing consumer preferences.
Driver: Clean and green boating solutions
Environmental sustainability drives the electric boat market, as customers increasingly prioritize eco-friendly transportation options. Industry stakeholders should focus on promoting clean and green boating solutions. This encapsulates the need to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of electric boats, such as their zero emissions and reduced impact on marine ecosystems. It involves educating boaters and the public about the importance of transitioning to electric propulsion systems to mitigate air and water pollution, minimize noise disturbances, and protect fragile aquatic environments. Collaborative efforts among electric boat manufacturers, regulators, environmental organizations, and boating communities are essential to drive the adoption of electric boats and create a more sustainable boating industry. Additionally, initiatives to develop and support sustainable practices, such as recycling programs for batteries and environmentally friendly disposal methods, further contribute to the clean and green ethos of the electric boat market.
The use of electric and hybrid boats for inland water transportation like the movement of people and goods on rivers, canals, lakes, and other inland waterways can be a clean and green boating solution. Electric and hybrid boats produce zero or significantly lower emissions compared to conventional fuel-powered vessels, reducing the environmental impact of inland water transportation.

The Hound of the Baskervilles: Three Broken Threads
Hat tip to @myemuisemo for another excellent post that covers much of what I was planning together:
Data protection was not really a thing back in 1889. However, paper hotel registers would be something filled in by the front desk staff, not the guest. They would contain details of extra charges incurred as well, all stuff generally done by computer, but you can still buy paper copies today. Particularly for the Indian market, where less than half the population have Internet access. These registers are generally mandatory and in some countries, the data will still be passed to the police when it concerns newly arrived foreigners. That's why they ask for your passport.
Newcastle upon Tyne, the one people generally talk about as opposed to Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, was at the centre of a major coal mining area in North-East England, the Durham and Northumberland coalfields being in close proximity. The industry was still employing children - boys as young as 12 could work in mines - and was still a pretty dangerous, not to mention unhealthy industry.
The British economy was heavily reliant on coal, especially the newly built electric power stations. While the railways had a big coal trade for internal transport for domestic purposes, boats also played a big role, either going via canal or down the East Coast of Great Britain to the London Docks. This route would become vulnerable to German attack in the World Wars, particularly in the second war from fast torpedo boats known to the British as "E-boats"; the East Coast convoys are a lesser-known part of the naval war, with Patrick Troughton having served with Coastal Force Command.
The Mayor of Gloucester, like most civic mayors in England, is the chair of the council, elected to a one-year term by their fellow councillors. The current holder is Conservative councillor Lorraine Campbell. It's a mostly ceremonial role involving going to various events while wearing a red cloak and a big hat:
Gloucester's Deputy Mayor is called the Sheriff of Gloucester. There is still a Sheriff of Nottingham, by the way.
The Anglophone Canadian accent was historically noticeably different to an American one and of course had its own varieties. They've gotten closer over the decades, especially due to television.
Sir Henry would have limited luggage space on the ship over, so three pairs of boots would be reasonable. He'd have to ship over anything else at further cost, so it could be cheaper to buy new in London.
Deliveries of telegrams that weren't in the immediate area of the office cost extra. Bradshaw's Guide for Tourists in Great Britain and Ireland would state the nearest telegraph office for a town, as the 1866 edition demonstrates:
Sir Charles' estate was worth around £80m in today's money, but that would not even get him onto The Sunday Times Rich List, which starts at £350m (Sir Lewis Hamilton, i.e. the F1 driver). It tops out with Gopichand Hinduja and his family at an estimated £37.2 billion, whose conglomerate is many focussed on India, but also are the biggest shareholders in US chemical company Quaker Houghton.
Westmoreland was a historical county in Northern England; it was absorbed into Cumbria in 1974, but its area became part of the Westmoreland and Furness unitary authority in 2023.
"Entailed" means that Sir Charles has stipulated in a legal document that the Baskerville estate would have to pass to Sir Henry's heir intact. This was a feudal era practice that has now been abolished in most jurisdictions, with limited remaining use in England and Wales. Simply put Sir Henry is not allowed to sell the house or the land, even part of it. He can do what he likes with the cash and probably the chattels, the movable property like the candlesticks and the toasting forks.
This page covers it in relation to the works of Jane Austen with relevant spoilers:
Borough is another name for the area of Southwark. It got a Tube station in 1890, when the City and South London Railway opened, now the Bank branch of the Northern line. It also is famous for Borough Market, then a wholesale food market under cover of buildings from the 1850s. Today it is a retail market for specialty food; kind of like a farmers' market.
In 1888, the 10:30 from Paddington would get to Exeter at 15:35, a journey of five hours. @myemuisemo provides route maps. I would add at this point, GWR services to SW England went via Bristol, adding a lot of time to the journey, while the LSWR route from Waterloo was a lot more direct. Wags dubbed the former "the Great Way Round". The construction of two cut-off lines allowed the GWR to go via Westbury and Castle Cary.
I will cover the modern day condition of the route in my Chapter 6 post.
The GWR still had some broad-gauge track at 2,140 mm(7 ft 1⁄4 in) left that Brunel had favoured, but this would be finally eliminated in 1892.
Finally, Holmes is referencing the sport of fencing when he learns the cabbie has been given his name. The foil is the lightest of the three swords used in competitive fencing, such as the Olympics.
In an age before electronic fencing equipment, point scoring relied on the eyesight of the umpire... and the honesty of the competitions.
I was in my fencing club at university. I can't say I was that great. I preferred the epee, which doesn't have the priority rules...

MECH A DAY:01 cerberus bio - frame brought you by Ember rose collective
Hey going to be trying my had at doing a thing this month were i try and make a mech or mechanical design a day for this month since I'm tired of not really getting a chance to work on much of the things i want to with stuff. going to try and write up some lore for each of them too don't know if it'll be good but i want to TRY and get better at writing too so this be a way to hit two birds with one stone.
if you like this and want to help me out with making stuff like this and trying to be more creative for myself my kofi and patreon are on the sidebar of my page.
LORE. after there defection during of the first Cradle war the E.R.C was at a loss as to how to process the post war edicts that had been pass down to them by the nova accords. by degree, the pride and face of the E.R.C the RAPTOR-R-BIO-2X was outlawed as well as several of it base technology's. the venerable machine used by the earth collation to savage the many outer colonies and bring about the massacre on dauntless was enough to restrict the broad strokes of the technology but once they found out about the after effects of the full integration interface system on the pilots and how the E.R.C had been complicit in allowing that to happen do to the earths interest for brutal elite soldiers, the nova council almost had most of the board executed and the company dispended. This was initial judgement was walked back after an impassioned speech by the head of the board as well as the reminded that the E.R.C had switch side and provided a series of countermeasures for many of the earths more devastation weapons' and defenses in the towards the end of the war and did allow the company to not be savaged like that of the vanguard technologies or tri-oceanic's group. the trials and meeting of nova council would find much of the tech that the collective had been there cutting edge in the markets of weapons design and planetary colonization had been outlawed by there decree regardless of there own pleas.
unable to move forward with the previous project and not will to rock the boat in the post war period with so many eye on them, the E.R.C decided to work around there current limitations. as while they could not mess the consciousness of pilot and machine, they could at least create a in-between system with the creation of the pseudo-brain. a imperfect creation of a human brain that can be linked up with two other brains into a internal network of a bio-frame. this network will take the imputes from a more standard pilot interface and help to intuit and learned from the pilot making there own reflexes faster and allowing them to quickly react and deal with situations as they com. alongside that the bio-frames biological systems means that normal anti system attacks are near impossible and the collective promises of a the development communication brain has many interest peaked at the prospect of subverting jamming technology. outfitted with a more modest version of the raptors weapons' and lacking many of it biologicals weapons' the Cerberus boasts two high medium particle cannons in two of it arms, another two have a pair nano-seared talons and a small burst laser mounted on it wrist to help add an extra punch while the talons dig into it targets. it armored with a series of light plating and nano fiber layer over top the base bio-frame to give moderate protection to it internal components. to make up for it lack of extreme fire power and armor it predecessor had the Cerberus has been design to have an extreme speed of 97.2 km/h surpassing it predicators 64 km/h as well as being flight capable.
Still the system was not with out it flaws, it still retained the weakness to electrical pulse weapons' that would cause the biological systems to short circlet and finding after the initial test run the engineers sound found that they had a problem as each of the brains after a point would begin to over react with stimulate and run rampant. this rampant while rare is still a major concerns as most are unsure why and how the brain seem to be overloading the other more less know is the brain mimicry of the pilots action seems to represent a problem were some aspect or part of the pilot is being copied over into the brains network. Still the Cerberus has been moved into full production in spite of these problems as well as concerns from any compliance board can be fixed with a bit of economic leveraged as the E.R.C may be humbled the still retain much of the benefits for there time creating the RAPTOR for it time as a primary weapons' manufacturer for the earth collation.
(if there any spelling or grammatical weirdness sorry wrote this all in one sitting before i had to get to work on commissions.)

Ok, let me make something clear:
Plastic cases are not the problem.
On a quality modern sewing machine, one that is sold through a dealership, there's a solid metal framework inside the machine. The plastic cover comes off, and the motor, shafts, etc are all connected to a metal (usually steel or cast aluminum) framework. In the old days, this framework was part of the shell of the machine.
This is good.
It means that it's easier to remove lint and debris, easier to access any electronic parts, and easier to check and set the timing of the machine, the hook/needle clearance, and the feed timing. It's easier to reach areas that need to be lubricated. It also makes it way easier to replace any parts that get damaged or worn out.
However, the machines you see on the shelf at w@lmart have plastic cases, but no internal framework. Service techs can open up the plastic casing, but the guts of the machine are attached to the back half of the case.
This is bad.
These are machines that won't last long. That's why they're so cheap! I think the intention is to make a disposable sewing machine for people who want to make a couple of projects and then set it in a closet for 20 years, or just throw it away. Some of those machines have a metal-tipped PLASTIC HOOK instead of a metal hook and it makes me cry.
Unfortunately, that's not how such machines are marketed. If you like to sew, if you're making things to sell, if you're a quilter or a cosplayer or a fashion designer, you might mistakenly buy one of these disposable machines and then wonder why it's a total piece of crap.
Also, the two examples given in photos are a hand-crank machine (not electric) and a modern machine with the Singer logo. The Singer Sewing Machine company no longer exists. The name was sold to a big conglomerate and exploited today to make people believe they're buying a "real" singer. I have a whole separate rant about that.
There are still hand crank machines today, in fact I own a Harris hand-crank model from the 1920s that I acquired for a Steampunk project. It does sew, but I'm faster with a needle and thread in my hand. It is all-metal and weighs enough to be a boat anchor. I can't lift it by myself anymore. It may actually be heavier than my 6 needle professional embroidery machine.
And the truth is that the machine doesn't have to be physically heavy to be a good solid workhorse of a machine. The outer casing just needs to protect the important bits inside, such as the metal framework that holds all the machine bits in place.
How do I know? I'm a sewing machine repair tech, educator, and enthusiast. I've been working for a sewing machine dealership for over 20 years.
Do you think the people who design modern sewing machines in plastic cases ever feel insignificant because of it? knowing that they're making machines with the lifespan of a dog when they could (if they'd been born a few generations earlier) be making machines with the lifespan of a Galapagos tortoise?

How would a free market or socialist economy work? They sound nice but we don't have either in my country, the USA.
The government's fate is tied to the health of the economy, regardless of what kind of ism you prefer.
Liberalism, capitalism, socialism, communism, whatever, it needs an efficient clean energy economy or it will explode and collapse, sooner or later.
Wouldn't we need to have a system of charging biobatteries with clean energy instead of using petrofascist infrastructure to truly call ourselves free market or socialist?
Has liberalism itself failed in the struggle against electricity monopolies and petrofascism?
Yes and, to speak to the original comment, I'm agreed that criminal justice should be rehabilitative not punative, yet that is already the doctrine in the USA, but not the practice de facto. We need a more nuanced convo about police accountability and a reminder that the US penal system is vastly corrupt if those questions are getting asked...here's a question, aren't we going to need fossil fuel to make the casings for our organic batteries? Nope, because:
Fun fact, plastic can be made from hemp instead of fossil fuels!
All our economies will flourish with abundant solar and wind charging organic, compostable batteries. We would leave the petrofascists to apply for unemployment insurance benefits. Fine by me, I'm glad that safety net is there for them, remember that when those petrofascists will complain we are killing them and their industry, yet that's what they did to our industry 1900-1920, killing electric rail and monopolizing energy storage.
Consider that our energy is literally monopolized, and how absurd that is, and how profound that is.
Our local electric monopoly bill is due soon, better pay their demands and not ask questions, god forbid we would have a choice for our electricity.
Free markets? What are those? Sounds nice.
The struggle for socialism vs liberalism is a philosophical discussion while we have neither, and our energy is literally being monopolized by fascists.
Lemme jostle some matrix plugs in some brains out there, the electric company monopolizes our energy.
This is a profound insult worthy of revolt, and that revolt would receive landslide public approval yet it would be met with gunpoint by the vastly outnumbered petrofascist skeletor seal-team-6.
Welcome to the borderlands, where sugar biobatteries are 10x as efficient as lithium ion, and we can charge those batteries with abundant wind and solar distrubuted out in key urban and suburban places with existing foundations, but we're stuck buying monopolized electricity, reading blogs by Warren Buffet and Bill Gates thinking they're the "good" billionaires, we're stuck buying monopolized gas, and EVs made with batteries of lithium ion which is inferior for not only being 10x weaker physically than sugar batteries, but also much more harmful to the environment.
Here lies the extent of the waters of western liberalism, that the United States of America was founded on, this is the far-frontier beach of the edge of that unfinished American Revolution, this is where the boats floated to, on this beach we stand on a continent of western authoritarianism and petro-fascism, time to fill that gas tank at one of 4 suppliers or you can't go to work, and then pay the electric monopoly bill without receiving equity or voting power because de facto it's illegal to build clean infrastructure on this continent, this is the center of the front line of our battle, this is how the economy can work and you can call that gov't whatever children's philosophy vocab -ism you like it lives or dies with the health of its energy economy, both in the revolutionary struggle as their tanks run out of gas on the battle field and ours escape with clean energy before the mega artillery rains down like a monsoon; and this is how we thrive in the peacetime economy after; this is how to actually win the struggle against petrofascism by charging hard here and never stopping...
I know the names of my ancestors who fought in the American revolution but it's still not finished
Hey bro/ster I'm super sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but uh sometimes being a socialist means, you know, putting your dreams of terrorism down for a minute and talking about public policy and how your proposed form of government would like, uhhhhh................ work.

Leisure Power Boat Market: From Recreation to Luxury
The leisure power boat market is rapidly expanding, driven by advancements in technology, increasing disposable incomes, and growing interest in recreational activities. Leisure power boats are typically used for activities such as fishing, water sports, cruising, and exploring. The diversity in their applications, along with the emergence of new trends, is contributing to the industry's growth.
1. Recreational Boating and Cruising
One of the primary applications of leisure power boats is for recreational boating and cruising. People seek outdoor experiences on the water, whether it’s for short weekend trips or long-term cruising along coastlines. Power boats allow individuals and families to explore lakes, rivers, and coastal regions with speed and comfort. With modern advancements in hull design, engine power, and onboard amenities, leisure power boats offer enhanced performance and luxury features, making them ideal for cruising enthusiasts.
2. Fishing
Fishing is another significant application for leisure power boats. These boats are designed to provide ample space, stability, and necessary equipment for both recreational and competitive fishing. Power boats in this category are equipped with features like live wells, rod holders, fish finders, and powerful motors to easily navigate waters and reach fishing hotspots. Given the growing popularity of sport fishing and eco-tourism, the demand for specialized fishing boats has increased.
3. Water Sports
Leisure power boats are also widely used for water sports activities such as water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. These boats are designed with powerful engines that can generate the speed necessary to create large wakes for wakeboarding or skiing. In addition to recreational activities, these boats are also used for water sports competitions, contributing to their popularity in the market. Some models are designed with built-in towers, speakers, and storage for gear, enhancing the overall water sports experience.
4. Luxury and Yachting
Luxury power boats and yachts are a growing segment within the leisure boating market. These boats are often equipped with advanced technologies and luxury features such as onboard kitchens, spacious cabins, entertainment systems, and high-end finishes. Yachts, in particular, offer premium experiences with features that allow for extended voyages, catering to those looking for a luxurious lifestyle on the water. This segment has attracted high-net-worth individuals who prioritize comfort, style, and cutting-edge technology while cruising.
5. Eco-Tourism and Sustainable Boating
The rising interest in eco-tourism has led to an increasing demand for eco-friendly leisure power boats. Manufacturers are now focusing on producing boats with electric engines or hybrid systems, which help reduce carbon footprints. Solar-powered boats and energy-efficient designs are becoming more common in the market, catering to environmentally conscious consumers. This shift aligns with global sustainability goals and opens up new opportunities in eco-tourism, where boats are used for nature tours, wildlife watching, and exploring protected water bodies.
6. Commercial and Charter Services
Leisure power boats are also used for commercial purposes, such as water taxis, private charters, and boat rental services. In tourist-heavy regions, companies offer luxury yacht charters for private events, corporate meetings, and cruises. Power boats in these services are often equipped with high-end amenities and can be customized to meet the needs of clients. This niche market helps bridge the gap between personal and commercial uses of leisure power boats.
Conclusion
The leisure power boat market is diverse, offering applications ranging from recreational cruising and fishing to luxury yachting and water sports. With continued innovation in design, performance, and sustainability, the market is poised to meet the evolving demands of consumers. Additionally, as interest in eco-tourism and sustainable practices grows, the leisure power boat market will likely see further diversification in its offerings, opening up new opportunities for manufacturers and consumers alike.

SmartGen | SmartGen Attended the AMIM-CCEC Diesel Electric Summit 2024
A touch of blue stirs in the heart, as everyone harbors a dream of the sea: it is freedom, a faraway self-exile, the spirit of adventure and exploration of medieval seafarers, a fusion of passion and dreams. Key Trends in the Marine Engine Manufacturing Industry
Marine engine manufacturing presents a significant challenge to change through new technological advances, environmental regulations, and higher market demands. The focal point of operations in the maritime sector is commercial shipping, fishing vessels, and leisure crafts, whose engines are the heart of the mechanics involved. Innovations in these areas bring about improvements in efficiency, emission reduction, and reliability. This is because global shipping is still one of the principal drivers of international trade. Marine engine manufacturers are, therefore, the frontiers of the future in maritime operations. This blog delves into the latest key trends that are shaping the marine engine manufacturing sector.
1. Sustainability and Emission Control
The biggest trend in the industry of marine engine manufacturing is sustainability and emission control. The whole world is reacting to international regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on enforcing MARPOL Annex VI with tighter standards for emissions. This has increasingly forced manufacturers to produce cleaner and more efficient engines.
The designs for marine engines have accounted for the regulations under IMO Tier III, where the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) must be curtailed on a massive scale. These innovations resulted in dual-fuel engines that can work both on regular fuel and on liquefied natural gas (LNG), reducing emissions substantially. Of late, every effort is being made to use biofuels and synthetic fuels to curb carbon emissions from marine operations.
2. Hybrid and Electric Propulsion Systems
With the growing environmental issues, hybrid and electric propulsion systems are becoming important because of the viable alternative energy solutions that these offer. And with that interest in the marine engine is gaining momentum because people are shifting towards hybrid and electric propulsion systems. This mirrors one of the trends of transportation sectors, automotive and aviation, with electrification.
Hybrid systems take the traditional reciprocating engine or diesel and pair it with electric propulsion from a battery so that during operations, vessels can switch from source to source based on needs. Fuel consumption is dramatically reduced since, most of the time; vessels do not need to reach the full power capabilities of their engine; the majority of activities occur during port operations or slow cruising. Fully electric propulsion is still in its infant stages when applied to large vessels, but it quickly took the industry for smaller boats and ferries.
Advances in battery technologies also mean better lithium-ion batteries which have increased energy density and support longer trips. Hybrid marine engines with ESS are also increasing onboard power management flexibility, thus achieving increased efficiency in fueling and a reduced environmental footprint.
3. Digitalization and Intelligent Engines
IoT and big data are changing the game in the marine engine manufacturing business with the rise of smart engines that have sensors and data analytics tools embedded and can, in real-time, track how the engine is performing its fuel consumption and even maintenance needs.
Predictive maintenance is one of the major areas wherein digitalization is making a difference. Smart systems keep updating the condition of an engine and predict when some of the parts will start failing or require maintenance, thus reducing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency. In shipping companies, it becomes a major cause of concern when production gets stopped due to unplanned maintenance, causing high costs.
Finally, there will be the emergence of autonomous ships. The marine engine manufacturers will, therefore, try to create engines that can be used independently. Smart engines would make vessels highly reliable and require minimal human intervention.
4. Modular Design and Customization
Another major trend that's now happening in the marine engine manufacturing industry is towards modular engine design. In this, more modular designs are to be used in the production of engines. The main reason for this is that manufacturers can easily produce all sorts of custom designs of the engines according to the needs of any type of vessel. For instance, shipbuilders can add or remove the parts of the engine according to the vessel size, power requirements, and for what kind of vessel, and hence all the performance will result in optimized and excellent fuel efficiency.
This trend also reflects a growing demand for customization within the industry. Increasingly, shipowners and operators seek engines tailored to their specific operational requirements, whether for long-haul shipping offshore operations or some other specialized industrial application. To meet the increasing demand for modularity, modular designs are offered by marine engine manufacturers allowing a great deal of design flexibility and enabling more innovative and cost-effective options.
5. Hydrogen and Alternative Fuels
Hydrogen has become the new game-changer in the marine engine industry. A couple of years ago, these hydrogen engines would refuel, and there would be no fuel emissions at all, finally leaving a sustainable future for maritime transport. Indeed, hydrogen technology is still at the developmental stage. So far, several marine engine manufacturers are trying to figure out how to integrate these hydrogen fuels into their designs.
At this point in time, the infrastructure to support hydrogen as a marine fuel does not appear developed, but initiatives such as the Hydrogen Europe initiative do work on their development. Meanwhile, other alternative fuels including ammonia and methanol, are being tested and put into use in marine engines in the ongoing decarbonization of the world fleet of ships.
6. Retrofits and Engine Upgrades
The global ship fleet is mainly made up of older ships with older engine technologies. In this scenario, instead of scrapping the old ships, the common answer to complying with new environmental or efficiency standards has become retrofitting of the engines themselves.
Marine engine manufacturers are providing solutions for upgrading older engines with the latest technologies in terms of scrubbers, gains in fuel efficiency, and emission reduction. This will allow shipping companies to extend the life of fleets while meeting very stringent regulatory demands and improving operational performance.
Conclusion
The manufacturing marine engine industry is passing through a period of very dynamic change with the implications of environmental regulations, technological innovation, and the changing needs of customers. From hybrid and electric propulsion systems smart engines and hydrogen technology, these Marine Engine Manufacturers are innovating to ensure that the future of maritime transport will be cleaner, more efficient, and more reliable. However, despite these trends, the industry will have much play in the globalization movement toward sustainable and resilient maritime operations.
