Arena Puebla Report! 7/31/2017
Tiger, Puma, and El Malayo vs Rey Cometa, Stigma and Soberano Jr.
Who’s who?
Tiger and Puma are both in longer black bodysuits with Tiger in a white mask and Puma in black and gold. Meanwhile their 3rd El Malayo is in a black singlet and black mask.... so a lot of black on team rudo.
Rey Cometa is the only man in the match without a mask and is wearing blue pants, Soberano Jr too is in his trademark blue mask and pants while their third, Stigma is sporting black and red attire/mask.
How’s the match?
Pretty fun! If you’ve read my thoughts on any Tiger/Puma/Panther Bros match you know that I really adore the 4 of them. Panther Bros are absent here, but instead we have Stima who is always solid and Soberano Jr., who CMLL have been positioning as a future star all year. While this might just be a throwaway trios match with no real story attached, the pure lucha action is fun throughout. This also might be my first time watching an El Malayo match and he did pretty decent. It’s a nice thing about the Puebla shows is that you might see talents you won’t see appear on the Friday Arena Mexico shows. Like the hair vs hair match Puebla had a few weeks ago.
Stuka Jr., Dragon Lee and Mistico vs Negro Casas, Mephisto and Ephesto
Who’s who?
Stuka Jr is in the blue black attire with a white scalped mask, Mistico is in all while while Dragon Lee is in red/white. Fun fact : Mistico and Dragon Lee are real like brothers and their oldest brother Rush is in the main event of this show.
Negro Casas who is maskless and 2/3rds of Los Hijos del Infierno. Ephesto is wearing a shirt with his name on it while Mephisto’s shirt just has a face on the front of it.
How’s the match?
Fun, all the guys in this match know how to work perfectly in the CMLL traditional Lucha style. We get more tense moments between Negro Casas and Dragon Lee as they tease that feud. Most interesting thing coming out of this match is Stuka cutting a promo on the rudos post match. Hopefully that will lead to a title match with Mephisto, perhaps Stuka will finally be the man to dethrone the demon? Though this is strange as it comes after Stuka just lost a lightning match to Hechicero on Fridays show... perhaps CMLL thinks we have very short term memory?
Caristico vs Rush
Who’s who?
Both men are wearing white, but Caristico has long pants and a mask while Rush is just in briefs and some cool western boots which he always wears.
Some of you might remember last week the show ended with Rush throwing a crate of beer at Caristico.
How’s the match?
Good, though the ending leaves the show ending on an inconclusive end that’s not very satisfying. Perhaps Caristico/Rush has a betting match on the horizon? I’m not sure CMLL knows what’s going to be on the CMLL Anniversary card. If this is a test run, Caristico needs to work on his suicide dive or perhaps do a better dive? He does 3 in a row here and honestly none of them looked very good. He is a guy who lately has been having great performances, but this was lackluster for me. Though Rush brawling on the outside was fun, it felt like an all Rush match.
