There’s nothing humdrum at all about Ekurtis’ debut single despite its name. In fact, this new indie electronic artist dishes out a scintillating performance on his first song, a Dan Black meets Dan Croll sort of perky whimsical, polyrhythmic dazzling concoction. HumDrum is a nimble dance of whirring synths, spry beats, and wispy vocals. The more you listen, the more you’re hooked. New York based artist Eric Larson, who’s a former professional ballet dancer, will be releasing his debut Ekurtis EP, ‘Part I’, on June 16th. He even has plans to release two more follow up EP’s this summer. You can purchase HumDrum now from iTunes.

PHOTOS: glamglare presents: Paracutá, Corina Corina, The Sleeping Tongues, Hopper Race, Ekurtis
Our September 16 showcase featured a particular diverse lineup from electro-pop over indie rock to, well, Corina Corina, who fuses a host of genres ranging from blues to hip hop. Opening the night were twin acts Ekurtis and Hopper Race with two shades of engaging electro pop. Like them, playing a glamglare showcase for the second time were The Sleeping Tongues, a New York four-piece doing elegant indie rock. After that the aforementioned Corina Corina took the stage and surprised everybody with her multi-faceted talent. Closing out was Paracutá with powerful rock driven by alternating female and male vocals.

PHOTOS: glamglare presents: Ekurtis, Hopper Race, Birch, åMBe
Electronic music by new artists was the focus of our May showcase. Singer/producer turned ballet dancer Ekurtis opened the night with his catchy elegant pop songs. He then stayed on stage to play guitar for Hopper Race who adds big, Broadway-style vocals to dark electronic textures. We will surly hear more from both musicians.
Next up was Birch a Brooklyn electronic duo fronted by Michelle Birsky. Their bright melodic music contrasts with the serious social topics Michelle wants to bring across. Birch are releasing their new EP “Not Human” today, so give it a listen on Apple Music or Spotify.
Last act was åMBe aka Maria Brodskaya, who celebrated the release of her EP “Enemy of the People” (Apple Music | Spotify) that night. Her music is big and cinematic with classical influences and we are happy to report that it looks and sounds as good live as recorded. Catch her tonight at Pianos!

VIDEO: Ekurtis - HumDrum
“HumDrum” immediately captivates with its charming and essentially super catchy melody, the soft vocals and its minimalistic instrumentation. This is a colorful and gorgeous video, with someone in it who can sing AND dance, no wonder because the artist who goes by Ekurtis exchanged his ballet dancing career with making music. If Ekurtis continues to direct and produce such appealing videos, he can easily combine many of his undeniable talents. He shares photography credits with Hopper Race, who also appears in the video.
Watch “HumDrum”, a true synth-pop beauty:

See Ekurtis live on Friday, May 26th when he plays at The Delancey. More info HERE.

Mondo.NYC back in its 3rd year: October 2-5, 2018
Remember the inaugural Mondo.NYC in 2016 and its follow-up last year? The global business conference and festival uniting music and technology, with emerging artists, innovators and industry insiders? We sure do, and you can get a glimpse of the past too by glancing at 2016 and 2017 photos and articles here.
But why dwell on what was yesterday, if there is a new opportunity to learn everything about new trends in music business, connect with music professionals, experience innovation at first hand and listen to music from exciting emerging local acts but also from as far as Syria or India and France or Hungary, with many other countries in between.
Mondo.NYC 2018 will take place from October 2nd to 5th. During the day, the main hub will be the beautiful Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn and at night the independent music venues on the Lower East Side will welcome bands from all over the world.  For the exact locations, simply check out the conference schedule with a music schedule and/or app yet to come.
Ever wanted to know about Blockchain and how it might become the next big thing in music business? Mondo.NYC 2018 is just the place to learn everything there is about it. There will be many more topics covered too and we still need to dive into all the highly interesting topics a bit more thoroughly. Still two weeks to go!
Looking through the performing bands, we are psyched to see various familiar names whom we love seeing live, to a point that we have also featured some of them at one of our monthly glamglare parties. That titbit aside, call us biased but here are our personal, special local recommendations: åMBe, Ekurtis, Gabriela Marlena, GIRL SKIN, HoneyChrome, Hopper Race, Joe Wood, Late Guest at the Party, Mars Motel, New Myths, RYAL, Satellite Mode and Scratch.
Yet we are equally enthusiastic to see international bands playing club stages like Brass Phantoms (Ireland), Casper Skulls (Canada), Crosa Rosa (U.K.), Frankiie (Canada), Iress (Los Angeles, USA), Ivan & The Parazol (Hungary), Little Wise (Australia), Our Lady Peace (Canada), Stevans (‘Europe’) – with more yet to be discovered!
Our (pre)-coverage has just begun. More as we get closer with having a bit more time to really listen to everyone.
For more info about Mondo.NYC go here, for tickets go here, and follow us along on our socials as we cover the festival.
Follow Mondo.NYC on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
To get a taste, listen to our Mondo.NYC 2018 playlist – which will see more additions as we get closer:
