Duy Beni ep 17

For those who don’t know what Duy Beni is about, it’s about four kids from a poor neighborhood who get to go to the fanciest private school in Istanbul, though they’d be better off going to the roughest school in the worst slums with all the murder, abuse, sexual assault and god knows what else is going on.

The two main characters are Ekim, a strong-willed poor girl who only enters the school to find out who is responsible for the hit and run that severely injured her BFF Leyla and Kanat, the seeminglygolden boy of the school who has to deal with a horrifying household run by a monster of a father that treats Kanat as a golden child and by that I mean constantly makes him pick whether daddy gets to abuse Kanat’s mom or Kanat’s brother Aziz. Kanat and Ekim are two very pretty people, but I confess my shipper heart belongs to Aziz x Leyla. Though honestly, both ladies must be really fond of hard work - Kanat is as unhinged as he’s gorgeous, and he’s vvvv gorgeous, and Aziz is literally mentally ill, all thanks to daddy.

The story is crazy soap of course, but I do love that (a) for once love isn’t enough, people with trauma and issues will actually plan to go to therapy! and (b) not one but TWO crazy secondary girls - Leyla AND Melissa - decide that actually no, Kanat will never love them so why not move on with a guy who will?

Anyway, moving on to ep 17. I kinda love that Aziz kidnaps 6 people at gunpoint to basically tell them Leyla is his soulmate. Kid is crazier than a bag of weasels and I adore him so much!

Side note - love Melissa’s boys moving in unison to shield her. God, I know it’s Turkey but gal should resolve that love triangle via a threesome.

Also, I love that their big love is geeking out over obscure books!

Awwww, get someone who loves you for your kinda psycho, seriously damaged, smart and awkward self!

Show summed up in one sentence.

Anyway, there is not enough therapy in the world for poor Aziz. I admire Leyla’s dedication to getting a fixer upper. Joking aside tho, I do love that this drama’s new writers’ tack is not extreme constant abuse turns you into hopeless psycho who must be put down the end (which I swear OG writer was going for and was really sticking in my craw) but that extreme constant abuse will give you serious mental issues and damage but you can be fixed, you can be worthy of love etc!

Like!!!! The guy is genuinely mentally ill. The amount of damage he’s had is in general horrific because this is a guy who knows his abuser monster father has kidnapped the girl he loves and literally is having difficulties unfreezing and rescuing her or even telling someone about it so they’d rescue her.

Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick.

I love the two Azizes - the better and more damaged one - debating rescuing Leyla from his monster father.

The fact that any part of him thinks that constant beatings is proof of love? Yikes. YIKES.

That is something I caught way earlier btw. I found it pretty telling that even tho he treated Kanat as the golden child and Aziz as the scapegoat, in the past generation he himself was Aziz and his brother was Kanat in terms of grandfather’s treatment. And I started wondering how much was Kanat being made into a golden child and how much loathing of his past self he was taking out on Aziz and how much actually horrifying grooming of Aziz into Riza Mark 2.

And then his good self says “checkmate!” and eeeeeee!!!!

I read the ozet for ep 19 and watched second trailer and

1. I am sorry, all I can fixate on is Melisa confessing she loves Ozan. Aaaaaaaa!!!! I am sure this will turn into a disaster somehow because I saw him walking away in first trailer for the ep but I don’t care - it’s like a person who had crumbs got a whole cake. Somehow, 19 eps in the upper class bully X upper class unhinged secondary girl became my top OTP in this show and not because I don’t love the other OTPs. But it’s like…best friends, train wrecks, amoral horrors and utterly codependent. What a combo! (Also I can’t believe I am gonna say it but outside comic relief Bekir who is the best boy, Ozan is by far the best boyfriend material in this show provided he truly loves the girl. The way he is for and with Melisa, Kanat or Aziz or Ates or Original or whoever can never.)

2. The trailer clip of Aziz hugging his monster father and then telling Leyla, the girl he loves and who his father kidnapped and almost murdered, “after all he’s my father” gave me hives (though as abused as Aziz was backsliding makes sense tbh) but the ozet said he has a plan so I am assuming he’s putting daddy on in order to trap him and I am calm now. Don’t let me down, ILY my favorite headcase!

3. I was wondering why Gaye was in Kanat’s house in promo 1 and apparently somehow she moved in. Ahaha is the place a hotel? Also that is a new low in her chasing a teenager who plain text told you he doesn’t like you. I am beginning to think Riza’s beatings broke something in Suna’s brain because all that plan would do is get Kanat to hate her.

4. The guard Riza sends after Ekim falls for her. Of course 😂😂😂 Isn’t he an adult? It isn’t any less creepier to have an adult man chase a high school girl than to have Gaye chase Kanat. Do those makers forget these are high schoolers even though they don’t look like it? (I can’t make “the world’s oldest high schoolers” crack any more after watching Hayat Gibi with Araz the 35 year old high schooler but still…)

Fucked up rich boys x plucky poor girls in Turkish shows

Aka my fave trope! I am gonna limit myself to one OTP per show or we’ll be here all day.

Here are Kerem x Zeynep from Gunesi Beklerken, aka my favorite Turkish show OTP. I have never shipped a Turkish show couple this much before or since. It started out as a Hanadan remake but pretty quickly went its own way.

In RL, most of these dudes need hardcore therapy more than girlfriend (50% of these gentlemen put in plans to murder their fathers, 50% contemplated/attempted suicide and 75% have a felon parent, for example) and they wouldn’t know a healthy relationship with boundaries if it bit them, but oh boy it’s fun to watch!

Aziz x Leyla 4evah!!!!!

Who knew I would be rabidly shipping abused and kinda psycho “accountant” (sorry, my nick for him) brother of ML Aziz x formerly handicapped and kinda psycho BFF of FL Leyla but here I am and I am FUCKING RABID!!!

They “met” when he pretended to be his brother who she had a crush on and initiated a romance via texting for murky reasons. And then they fell for each other for real. She’s obsessive and so is he, they are both way fucked up, and it’s all delish.

You have NO idea how happy I am that (a) they backed off the whole “abuse victim is of course EEEEEEEVIIIIIIIIL with no feelings” thing they were going with in earlier eps (they switched writers and I way prefer the new ones; they made most characters less psycho thank God. Kanat is occasionally a human being now and Aziz and Leyla, headcases tho they may be are capable of love) (b) it is so refreshing that they started with Aziz fancying Ekim (possibly because his brother did and he has major issues) and Leyla obsessing over Kanat and they did all sorts of insane things because of it and then they went”fuck it” and fell for each other which is goddamn sane and I want insane secondaries to do and they never do.

Here he is freaking out over her being missing...

And rescuing her! SWOOOOOON!!!

Why his horrifically abusive father progressed from fucking with his son to fucking with his son’s girlfriend is...that is DEDICATION, I got to say!
