Easter eggs dyed with red onions.
I spent a couple of hours this morning dyeing these. Wish I had a lot more time though, it's such a therapeutic activity for me, I love it.

my family dyed eggs yesterday. I got creative.
Top is a Bubba egg and it says "teggsas chainsaw massacre" and bottom is pinhead and it says "heggraiser 'he'll tear your yolk apart!'"

Hey it's Easter today for those of us on the Julian calendar, so let me ask a Fun Question!
(Explanation under if you don't know what I'm talking about.)
Egg Battles: honestly I don't know the real English name for these, we just call it "tucanje jaja" in Serbian. Basically each person gets an egg and you take turns hitting them pointed end to pointed end to see which one breaks first.

Ukranian pysanky egg - Scales
Went to a workshop with my folks and came back with a couple of eggs. This one is in a scale pattern that apparently impressed the heck out of the instructor, since she had just taught us a simple way of dividing the egg into sections and I extrapolated a spiral out of that to make a spiralized grid for the scales.

Dyeing eggs.
Everyone in the house got involved ❤️
This is also the first year that I had food dye on hand, because of all the candy making I've been doing
My kid is super proud of his egg.
It looks like there is a pink lightning bolt.

As long as we’re on the subject of colors…
While each of us puts different meaning to Easter celebration, there are some common traditions – like eggs dyeing. It is a great time for getting creative and rebounding with beloved ones. Eco-green-organic-living trend has been around for a while now, so why not to combine it with the Pantone’s colour of the year 2016. To be more prices, with two of them – rose quartz and serenity. I've decided to add egg-shell-yellow which will contribute to the palette well.
Al you need is:
One raw beetroot or beetroot freshly-squeezed juice
Green tea
Hibiscus tea
Any kind of transparent vinegar
Any Vessel were you can “bath” eggs. To spare time use tea mugs.
White eggs
First of all hard-boil eggs. If you don’t know how to do it, ask your mom. Unfortunately I couldn’t find organic white eggs, so I wasn’t so eco-friendly after all. I’ll be more prepared on Russian Orthodox eater, which is on 1st May.
While eggs are cooking prepare dyes. For yellow and serenity you will have to brew teas in the usual way, but adding more leaves. 3 table spoons of tea per ordinary tea mug will do just fine. Do it in a tea mug – less mess.
Let the solutions cool down and ad one table spoon of vinegar to the each mug. The dyes are ready!
For rose quarts colour you also have to add vinegar to the beetroot juice, this will make colouring process more stable and the pigment will be a bit reacher. If you can’t find beetroot, make one your self. In case you don’t own a juicer, simply blend one beetroot – the paste you will get will work too. Don’t forget to pour some vinegar.
Dip every egg in dyeing solution for about 3 minutes and put it way to aid dry. For reacher tone repeat. The hole process won’t take mora than 45 minutes and in the end you will gat very beautiful easter eggs.
Happy Easter!

Oh cool! That is an excellent reference chart! Wow, the onion really does make a very orange color! Wasn't expecting it to be that vivid!
The parsley ones are neat, I wouldn't have thought of that for a dye. I wonder if rosemary would make a similar green...
The cabbage is a bit of a surprise with that sky blue shade too. I would've figured more of a purple-grey!
Re; decorating eggs whenever, do it! If its a thing you like, and have fun doing, go for it! Why not?
Personally, i was just laughing at the idea of someone selling Halloween themed plastic eggs, not really at the idea of people decorating eggs out of season.
I wonder if there's any dyes that would be good for doing an egg as a jack-o'-lantern design? Orange isn't usually an easter shade so i don't think I've seen it! It could be a fun thing for you to find out. Turmeric might work? But it would be more yellow than orange maybe... Does regular food dye sink into egg shell or just wipe off?
Food dye does work on eggs if you add a little bit of vinegar to the mix! I've also decorated eggs using wax crayons before, and I'm pretty sure watercolor paints work on them too. I bet it would actually be easy to make Jack-o'-lantern eggs with pretty cheap materials!
I definitely agree that the idea of selling plastic Halloween eggs is a little silly. But my favorite part of looking at any holiday decorations is always getting inspiration for projects I could do on my own! Like spooky eggs!
