"When a severe water shortage hit the Indian city of Kozhikode in the state of Kerala, a group of engineers turned to science fiction to keep the taps running.
Like everyone else in the city, engineering student Swapnil Shrivastav received a ration of two buckets of water a day collected from India’s arsenal of small water towers.
It was a ‘watershed’ moment for Shrivastav, who according to the BBC had won a student competition four years earlier on the subject of tackling water scarcity, and armed with a hypothetical template from the original Star Wars films, Shrivastav and two partners set to work harvesting water from the humid air.
“One element of inspiration was from Star Wars where there’s an air-to-water device. I thought why don’t we give it a try? It was more of a curiosity project,” he told the BBC.
According to ‘Wookiepedia’ a ‘moisture vaporator’ is a device used on moisture farms to capture water from a dry planet’s atmosphere, like Tatooine, where protagonist Luke Skywalker grew up.
This fictional device functions according to Star Wars lore by coaxing moisture from the air by means of refrigerated condensers, which generate low-energy ionization fields. Captured water is then pumped or gravity-directed into a storage cistern that adjusts its pH levels. Vaporators are capable of collecting 1.5 liters of water per day.

Pictured: Moisture vaporators on the largely abandoned Star Wars film set of Mos Espa, in Tunisia
If science fiction authors could come up with the particulars of such a device, Shrivastav must have felt his had a good chance of succeeding. He and colleagues Govinda Balaji and Venkatesh Raja founded Uravu Labs, a Bangalore-based startup in 2019.
Their initial offering is a machine that converts air to water using a liquid desiccant. Absorbing moisture from the air, sunlight or renewable energy heats the desiccant to around 100°F which releases the captured moisture into a chamber where it’s condensed into drinking water.
The whole process takes 12 hours but can produce a staggering 2,000 liters, or about 500 gallons of drinking-quality water per day. [Note: that IS staggering! That's huge!!] Uravu has since had to adjust course due to the cost of manufacturing and running the machines—it’s just too high for civic use with current materials technology.
“We had to shift to commercial consumption applications as they were ready to pay us and it’s a sustainability driver for them,” Shrivastav explained. This pivot has so far been enough to keep the start-up afloat, and they produce water for 40 different hospitality clients.
Looking ahead, Shrivastav, Raja, and Balaji are planning to investigate whether the desiccant can be made more efficient; can it work at a lower temperature to reduce running costs, or is there another material altogether that might prove more cost-effective?
They’re also looking at running their device attached to data centers in a pilot project that would see them utilize the waste heat coming off the centers to heat the desiccant."

OKAY IM LATE BUT I GOTTA ASK ABOUT UR LORE WITH KUZCO BEING HIS OLDER SIBLING AND ALL-
SORRY IM SO OBBSESED WITH THIS MOVIE but seriously how do you deal with him all the time- I feel like he’s such a little shit (well he is but he’s sweet….at times😭)
(And also Lore for Uncle Hades would be nice too 🤫🧏‍♂️)
⭐️(a gold star for you!! :D) @pastelpousay
AWAAAAA HOORAY HOORAY HOORAY
OKAY OKAY OKAY SO my OC's name is Quya!! here she be, she is soooo pretty :3
Tumblr media
shout out Azalea's Dolls Arabrian Nights maker <3
anyway the story I've got so far is Quya is the elder sister to Kuzco and was originally heir to the throne. Quya was fifteen years old when Kuzco was born (and in my AU, when they lost their mother, Empress Sayri, who Kuzco is a spitting image of <3) and she was eighteen and Kuzco three when their father, Emperor Uqllu, set sail for an overseas trade agreement with a king of India. However, his ship was caught in a horrible storm that sunk it, leaving no survivors.
my story/AU is based heavily off of Kingdom of the Sun, what Emperor's New Groove was going to be before the tone was completely changed. so weeks after their father set sail with a promise to return in a few months (effectively leaving Quya in charge of both her brother and the kingdom with Yzma and the imperial council's help), Kuzco started having nightmares every night.
Now the thing you most need to know about Quya is that she loves her family, especially her baby brother, more than anything in the entire world. And she is reckless and impulsive with her own safety.
Quya had snuck into Yzma's lab before to tinker with her elixirs and stuff, and so she snuck down there in the middle of the night to find something that might help her brother. What she ends up finding is an incantation meant to chanted during a very specific sacrifice to a very specific deity. She uncovers a plot to sacrifice a son of the sun (aka Kuzco) to unleash Supay from his prison beneath the earth.
Quya takes this incantation, fearing for her brother's life, and runs to the temple of Inti. She is seen and chased by Supay conspirators all the way to the temple. She throws the incantation into the fires of Inti, is attacked by conspirators, and (I've actually just changed this a little lol) Inti in his rage turns the conspirators into ash with his flames and turns Quya into gold to protect her.
For the next fifteen years, Quya is believed to be dead, and Kuzco is raised with the ghosts of his family, barely able to remember them.
Until Quya is found during a Chipmunk Scout field trip to the temple of Inti. When she is found, she is turned back into a human, and now has to grapple with the fact that so much time as passed and her baby brother is barely a year younger than she is now. :3
IT IS SOOOO MESSY AND SOOOO COMPLICATED AND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER THEY DO BUT THEY ALSO HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO HAVE A SIBLING AND HOW TO BE A SIBLING AND RAHHHH THEY MAKE ME EMO!!!!

Intro post for my Thunderbolts* manager OC
Ambrose “Ozzy” Boleyn
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
FC - Simone Ashley
“This one man booed when they showed us the earth in a planetarium show and everyday I think about how right he was.” - Ozzy Boleyn
From the Late Latin name Ambrosius, which was derived from the Greek name Αμρόσιος (Ambrosius) meaning "immortal". Saint Ambrose was a 4th-century theologian and bishop of Milan, who is considered a Doctor of the Church. Due to the saint, the name came into general use in Christian Europe, though it was never particularly common in England.
Year of Dog, ENFJ, Aquarius
Aliases - The Lady of The Lake, Ozzy das Otter, Ozzy Otter
Strengths : Metal working Fashion sense One-liners Networking
Weaknesses : Unthreatening codename Easily distracted No one can keep track of her Thinks she can befriend any animal she comes across (she cannot)
Other notable traits Has a tendency to piss off people in power and thoroughly enjoy it Probably believes King Arthur was real (it’s the delulu in her) She’s literally just a sweet bard/mummer stuck in the wrong era Would probably thrive in Asgard and be made into a minor god Always takes her job seriously, would rather chop her hand off than half-ass things
Fun facts NOT related to Anne Boleyn. Was not blipped. Huge fan of mythology, epics and such. Quotes random passages and makes references no one understands much to their annoyance. Liked epic poems so much, she learnt how to sing them out as they are supposed to be sung. Also learnt, classical flute and guitar to add to the effect. Was dismal at it but practiced enough that she was deemed more than passable and pretty good by people who had to listen to her. Loves to soak in the sun and water, she’s a water baby. Looks and seems normal, is anything but that.
Powers Redacted ****
General infortmation : — Born in Bath, England to a history professor and a vet. Her grandparents were French-Indian and her mother moved to England to study history. Her father’s parents were immigrants from India. Her father wasn’t around as much and her mother simply told her he was off fighting in some war, she later found out her mother had been lying and that he worked as a vet in Lancashire and her parents simply couldn’t stand each to be in each other’s company. — She was separated from them at the age of 9 when her parents for once cooperated to get her tested for some genetic disorder. The lab’s doctor was working with SHIELD (but actually HYDRA) medical experts and biologists and upon discovering the x-gene in her DNA sent word to their bosses with haste. Within the afternoon the Boleyns were being told that their daughter had been selected for a medical study and that it was government sanctioned. Her parents caught off guard couldn’t do much at the moment but watch her be led away. — She remained under HYDRA until SHIELD's fall. At HYDRA she was trained in general combat, administration of basic and emergency medical care, multiple languages, making and designing of weapons and armory. As sources suggest her powers may have been subject to inspection and she very well may have trained with them as well. In the chaos that followed one of her handlers bartered her for immunity and she was then “employed” by a Russian diplomat/criminal in Germany by the name of Ivan Petrovich (Black Widow reference for people interested) — Worked for Ivan for a little over a year, she ended up killing him as she was running away. The story of her escape was odd and impressive enough for her to earn the name ‘das Otter’ (the Otter), coined by the guards after her. Further supported by her tendency for escapes at HYDRA. — Spent the next year on the run and making a name for herself as a metal worker. Eventually ended up in Madripoor and running in with the new up and coming powerhouse the “Power Broker”. Her management skills come from this time as she oversaw many operations and business endeavours, even dealing on behalf of the Power Broker at times. — Sometime before the events of TFATWS she moved to Munich to fully take charge of and oversee her forging company and remained there, running her business until after the events of Thunderbolts*, when Bucky approaches her. Her company, Vulcan Forgers, caters to many high profile clientele and specialize in custom weapons, jewellery and movie props.

Open Hangar Episode 0 - Prologue
Tumblr media
Intermingling within the cytoplasm of every living cell, there exists the substance that determines the rate at which cells mature, age, and die. For most of mankind’s history, the systems through which this happened was a mystery, unknown and within the realms of mythology. It wasn’t until a laboratory in Singapore discovered this substance and named it: Charged Ionic Nucleotides. The lab’s PR team gave it the much catchier and trademarkable name Chargon.
At first, the world gave it little thought, just considering it another mildly interesting fact taught in middle school. But then, the Indian government made the world-changing discovery of C.I.N. Extraction, in which the chargon within a living cell could be removed with minimal damage to the cellular structure using reversed ion compulsion.
They had removed that which caused the cell to age.
On top of this, the free chargon was an incredible source of energy, many times more efficient than nuclear fission. A single banyan tree could power a major Indian metropolis for well over a year, and with proper care, that same tree would stand for many more years to come. This ground-breaking discovery was freely spread around the world to any nation who had the resources to take advantage of it, ending the energy crisis for 90% of the world in only 2 years and halting the rise of global climate change almost immediately. And for the less-developed nations of the world, the Indian government created the CINE-Daan Project, in which they would stockpile free chargon and chargon extractors within vast catacombs underneath the Himalayan peaks bordering India and China to lease out to nations in Oceania, Africa, and South America. The world was not yet a utopia, but the finish line was in sight.
Until the stockpile, along with most of the Himalayas, went up in cataclysmic flames.
Nobody knows who had done it or why, as anyone involved joined the billions of Indian, Tibetan, Nepalese, and Chinese civilians who were eradicated in a single moment. The best anyone can guess in retrospect is that something had caused the energy in the free chargon to cascade into itself, igniting the energy all in one massive burst. Those who claimed to have seen it and lived long enough to tell anyone else about it said that it looked like a massive, multi-colored flower erupting out of the ground, its petals spreading across the sky. This was the free chargon dispersing into the atmosphere, blanketing the planet and infecting all living beings.
The death of billions in the two most populous countries on Earth sent immediate ripples throughout all of mankind, the world’s collective grief blinding them to the effects of the free chargon in the air. It was Asia who was hit first and hardest, obviously, but Eastern Europe and the Middle East quickly felt it, too. The closer one lived to the blast site, the faster one aged and the faster the wildlife evolved. A newborn in Beijing taking her first steps before the family had finished celebrating the new life, young men in Manila developing rheumatoid arthritis overnight, a town in Laos becoming blanketed in a never-before-seen poisonous lichen.
The entire world had become one giant existential nightmare.
The wealthy, the learned, and the world leaders among the world’s population immediately fled to Brazil once they understood what was happening, hoping that a close antipode of the blast site would give them the most time to determine a solution. One scientist had an idea, and it was the only one considered: use a variation of the CIN Extraction to draw in the free chargon from the air, place it in a suitable vessel, and launch it into space. “How long would it take before the chargon levels returned to normal?” an investor asked. “By my estimates, if hundreds of facilities are built around the world and work in tandem while being run by a skeleton crew of volunteers” the same scientist responded, “at least a couple of centuries.”
The room reportedly erupted in fervor, people with no ideas asking for a better one. The requests went unanswered. “Then it’s clear. We need to leave Earth behind while it’s cleaning up.”
This meeting marked the beginning of the first year of the ADA (After the Day of Abandonment) calendar, in which 80% of the Earth’s population escaped into the stars, abandoning those below to live and die in squalor in the shadows of the Launch Base Zones, massive automated and semi-automated city-sized complexes which slowly absorbed the residual free chargon in the air, compress it, used giant bipedal vehicles known as Lanzers to load it onto pre-programmed rockets, and launch them into space to be collected and stored. Properly, this time, or at least it is understood so.
It’s been about 100 years since then. The free chargon in the Earth’s atmosphere is now estimated to cause all living things to mature and age at a rate about 96% faster than they did before the Himalayan Impact, down 1% since last year. Meanwhile, the Lunarians that had chosen to colonize the Earth’s moon became deathly afraid of Chargon, regularly purging it from their bodies to extend their life, usually around double the length before the Impact.
Some look up to the violet night sky in envy, while others look up in righteous fury, and yet more do their best to not think of the lights on the moon at all. All those who look down on their poison home planet, do so in pity.

“Henna Roe,” 30 (India ~2008)
“Henna” went to see a doctor because of severe abdominal pain. The doctor noticed she had a mild fever and that her abdomen was tender. Henna had not suffered any recent illnesses or physical trauma— with the sole exception of a recent abortion at 16 weeks pregnant.
The lab tests showed a low platelet count and elevated liver enzyme levels. An emergency ultrasound revealed a large lesion, prompting doctors to run a CT scan of her abdomen to get a better understanding of what was wrong.
Henna’s CT scan indicated rupture of the right hepatic lobe with large hyperattenuating subcapsular haematoma and ascites. Aspiration of the lesion was attempted, drawing blood. Henna was aggressively treated, but died a week after being admitted to the hospital.
The diagnosis was a very rare complication almost never seen outside of the third trimester: HELLP Syndrome. Henna had no noted pregnancy complications or other health problems before her abortion (especially significant since HELLP syndrome typically occurs with preeclampsia and not with a healthy pregnancy), but the abortion itself triggered a rare form of the disorder that can occur up to a week postpartum. Although the pathophysiology of HELLP syndrome is still not fully understood, post-abortion inflammation may have triggered it in Henna’s case.
With treatment, about 99% of mothers with HELLP syndrome survive. However, the effective treatment is delivery (frequently in combination with supportive care and medications to manage various aspects of the disease until it subsides). In this rare case where the disease was a complication of an abortion, this approach couldn’t be used (for obvious reasons). Henna fought for her life, but even the best attempts of her doctors couldn’t save her from this unusual form of an already-rare disorder.
(Please note: There is some debate in the medical field about the relationship between preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome and other diagnostic labels. I used the terminology as it was written in Henna’s case report.)

A Comprehensive Guide to the Top Industries Attracting FDI in India
Tumblr media
India has emerged as one of the most attractive destinations for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in recent years, thanks to its robust economic growth, favorable demographics, and ongoing policy reforms. FDI plays a crucial role in stimulating economic development by bringing in capital, technology, and expertise. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the top industries that are attracting FDI in India.
1. Information Technology (IT) and Software Services:
India's IT industry has been a pioneer in attracting FDI, fueling the country's economic growth and creating millions of jobs. With a large pool of skilled IT professionals, cost-effective services, and a conducive business environment, India continues to be a global hub for software development, IT outsourcing, and business process outsourcing (BPO).
India's Information Technology (IT) and software services industry have been pivotal in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) due to several key factors:
1. Skilled Workforce:
India boasts a vast pool of highly skilled IT professionals, including software engineers, developers, and project managers. Foreign companies can leverage India's cost-effective labor market to reduce their operational expenses while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. This cost advantage has been a major driver for multinational corporations to set up offshore development centers and service delivery hubs in India.
3. Conducive Business Environment:
India offers a conducive business environment for IT companies, characterized by liberalized policies, supportive government initiatives, and a well-established legal framework. The government has implemented various reforms to promote ease of doing business, simplify regulatory procedures, and encourage foreign investment in the IT sector. Additionally, initiatives such as Digital India and Make in India have further propelled the growth of the IT industry by fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology adoption.
4. Global Reputation:
Over the years, India has built a strong reputation as a leading destination for IT and software services globally. Indian IT companies have demonstrated expertise in delivering cutting-edge solutions, leveraging emerging technologies, and meeting the diverse needs of clients across industries. If you ever had pastries at breakfast, drank soy milk, used soaps at home, or built yourself a nice flat-pack piece of furniture, you may have contributed to deforestation and climate change.
Every item has a price—but the cost isn’t felt only in our pockets. Hidden in that price is a complex chain of production, encompassing economic, social, and environmental relations that sustain livelihoods and, unfortunately, contribute to habitat destruction, deforestation, and the warming of our planet.
Approximately 4 billion hectares of forest around the world act as a carbon sink which, over the past two decades, has annually absorbed a net 7.6 billion metric tons of CO2. That’s the equivalent of 1.5 times the annual emissions of the US.
Conversely, a cleared forest becomes a carbon source. Many factors lead to forest clearing, but the root cause is economic. Farmers cut down the forest to expand their farms, support cattle grazing, harvest timber, mine minerals, and build infrastructure such as roads. Until that economic pressure goes away, the clearing may continue.
In 2024, however, we are going to see a big boost to global efforts to fight deforestation. New EU legislation will make it illegal to sell or export a range of commodities if they have been produced on deforested land. Sellers will need to identify exactly where their product originates, down to the geolocation of the plot. Penalties are harsh, including bans and fines of up to 4 percent of the offender's annual EU-wide turnover. As such, industry pushback has been strong, claiming that the costs are too high or the requirements are too onerous. Like many global frameworks, this initiative is being led by the EU, with other countries sure to follow, as the so-called Brussels Effect pressures ever more jurisdictions to adopt its methods.
The impact of these measures will only be as strong as the enforcement and, in 2024, we will see new ways of doing that digitally. At Farmerline (which I cofounded), for instance, we have been working on supply chain traceability for over a decade. We incentivize rule-following by making it beneficial.
When we digitize farmers and allow them and other stakeholders to track their products from soil to shelf, they also gain access to a suite of other products: the latest, most sustainable farming practices in their own language, access to flexible financing to fund climate-smart products such as drought-resistant seeds, solar irrigation systems and organic fertilizers, and the ability to earn more through international commodity markets.
Digitization helps build resilience and lasting wealth for the smallholders and helps save the environment. Another example is the World Economic Forum’s OneMap—an open-source privacy-preserving digital tool which helps governments use geospatial and farmer data to improve planning and decision making in agriculture and land. In India, the Data Empowerment Protection Architecture also provides a secure consent-based data-sharing framework to accelerate global financial inclusion.
In 2024 we will also see more food companies and food certification bodies leverage digital payment tools, like mobile money, to ensure farmers’ pay is not only direct and transparent, but also better if they comply with deforestation regulations.
The fight against deforestation will also be made easier by developments in hardware technology. New, lightweight drones from startups such as AirSeed can plant seeds, while further up, mini-satellites, such as those from Planet Labs, are taking millions of images per week, allowing governments and NGOs to track areas being deforested in near-real time. In Rwanda, researchers are using AI and the aerial footage captured by Planet Labs to calculate, monitor, and estimate the carbon stock of the entire country.
With these advances in software and hard-tech, in 2024, the global fight against deforestation will finally start to grow new shoots.

From Lab to Patient – The Evolution of Medicine Production
The journey of a medicine from a research laboratory to a patient’s bedside is a complex and intricate process.  It involves rigorous scientific research, extensive clinical trials, stringent regulatory approvals, and sophisticated manufacturing processes.  This blog will explore the evolution of medicine production, highlighting the role of leading pharmaceutical companies in India, including Centurion Healthcare, in bringing life-saving medications to the market.
Tumblr media
The Genesis of Medicine: Research and Development
The Role of Pharma Companies in India
The development of new medications begins with a deep understanding of diseases and the biological mechanisms that drive them.  Pharmaceutical companies in India, renowned for their robust R&D capabilities, play a pivotal role in this phase.  Researchers at these companies work tirelessly to identify potential therapeutic targets and develop compounds that can modulate these targets effectively.
Preclinical Research
Before a new drug can be tested in humans, it must undergo extensive preclinical research.  This involves laboratory and animal studies to assess the safety and efficacy of the compound.  The goal is to gather enough data to support the initiation of clinical trials.  This stage is crucial for ensuring that only the most promising and safe candidates move forward.
Clinical Trials:  Testing in Humans
Phase I Trials
Once a compound has shown promise in preclinical studies, it enters Phase I clinical trials.  These trials involve a small number of healthy volunteers and aim to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of the drug.  For a medicine manufacturing company in India like Centurion Healthcare, this phase is critical for determining the initial safety profile of the drug.
Phase II Trials
If Phase I trials are successful, the drug progresses to Phase II trials, which involve a larger group of patients who have the condition the drug is intended to treat.  The focus here is on assessing the drug’s efficacy and further evaluating its safety.  Pharmaceutical companies in India invest heavily in this phase to gather robust data that can support the drug’s potential therapeutic benefits.
Phase III Trials
Phase III trials are the most extensive and involve a large number of patients across multiple locations.  These trials are designed to confirm the drug’s efficacy, monitor side effects, and compare it to standard treatments.  For a medicine manufacturing company, this phase is critical for obtaining the data needed for regulatory approval.
Regulatory Approval
After successful Phase III trials, the data is submitted to regulatory authorities for approval.  In India, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) is responsible for evaluating the safety and efficacy of new drugs.  Obtaining regulatory approval is a significant milestone for any medicine company in India, allowing the drug to be marketed and made available to patients.
Manufacturing:  From Lab Bench to Production Line
Scaling Up Production
Once a drug receives regulatory approval, the focus shifts to manufacturing.  Scaling up production from laboratory scale to commercial scale is a complex process that requires significant expertise and investment.  Medicine manufacturing companies in India, such as Centurion Healthcare, employ state-of-the-art technologies and adhere to stringent quality control measures to ensure that every batch of medicine meets the highest standards.
Quality Assurance and Control
Quality assurance and control are paramount in medicine manufacturing.  Companies implement rigorous testing protocols to ensure that each batch of the drug is consistent in terms of potency, purity, and safety.  This involves testing raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products.  Pharmaceutical companies in India are known for their stringent quality control measures, which are essential for maintaining the trust of healthcare providers and patients.
Packaging and Distribution
Once manufactured, the medicines are packaged in a manner that ensures their stability and safety during transportation and storage.  Packaging must protect the drug from environmental factors such as light, moisture, and temperature fluctuations.  After packaging, the medicines are distributed to pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics, ensuring that they are readily available to patients.
Post-Market Surveillance
The journey of a medicine does not end with its launch in the market.  Post-market surveillance is crucial for monitoring the drug’s performance in the real world.  This involves collecting and analyzing data on the drug’s safety and efficacy from patients and healthcare providers.  Pharmaceutical companies in India are actively involved in post-market surveillance to ensure that any potential issues are identified and addressed promptly.
Pharmacovigilance
Pharmacovigilance is a key component of post-market surveillance.  It involves the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problems.  Medicine manufacturing companies in India have dedicated pharmacovigilance teams that monitor and report any adverse events associated with their drugs, ensuring patient safety.
The Role of Technology in Medicine Production
Advanced Manufacturing Technologies
The pharmaceutical industry has embraced advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance efficiency and product quality.  Techniques such as continuous manufacturing, automation, and advanced analytics are revolutionizing the way medicines are produced.  These technologies enable medicine manufacturing companies to produce drugs more efficiently, reduce waste, and ensure consistent product quality.
Digital Transformation
Digital transformation is playing a significant role in the evolution of medicine production.  Pharmaceutical companies in India are leveraging digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and big data analytics to streamline their operations.  These technologies are used in various stages of drug development and manufacturing, from identifying new drug targets to optimizing production processes and ensuring quality control.
Sustainability in Medicine Production
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the pharmaceutical industry.  Companies are adopting environmentally friendly practices and technologies to minimize their environmental footprint.  This includes using renewable energy sources, reducing waste, and implementing green chemistry principles.  Medicine manufacturing companies in India are at the forefront of this movement, striving to make their production processes more sustainable.
