I wish to share this on my own blog but I know I will get a ton of hate from people I call 'friends'. You can ignore this rant and all, I am just leaving this in your inbox because one of your post was so crucial in my disillusion process. It was that one post about how many people lost their lives for chanting "Jai Siya Ram" The whole RJB thing, I was always on the fence about it. Leaning slightly towards the "Why cant we build schools and hospitals there instead!" team. While even with my biased views I still accepted that the Hindu side had a right to grieve over the temple that was razed all those years back- despite acknowledging that it was an injustice, I still felt they shouldnt raze down mosques and that the whole RJB grandeur should have been muted etc. My own parents constantly fed me one sided views. That it was all a Brahmin supremacist movement. That it was a movement to oppress the minorities. That it was never even a real issue but instead artificially manufactured for political reasons. Like any other kid I felt my parents can never be wrong. Unfortunately, in that perception I was the one in wrong. Sorry this is turning lengthy but it is weighing heavy on me. The whole excitement that was built around 22nd Jan- it appeared to be an overhyped media gimmick to me. However as the date neared, I saw the saffron flags adorning every street, almost every flat in my society and every shop in my area. The strangest part of all this, I live in a non Hindi state. We were always told this whole RJB movement was a movement of 'illiterate Northies'- that was the language I had grown up hearing. However what I saw was the opposite. Every street temple was adorned. I had never seen this level of festivities even in peak festivals like Diwali. Forget that, even the street hawkers had decorated their cart thingies. Poorest of the poor slums had saffron flags. How could it be if the whole thing was artificially created? Our house maid asked for a day off for that day so that she can watch pran pratishtha event. These arent 'illiterate northies' The highest residential towers here had diwali lightings. Fanciest of the malls in my city, Brand shops, cars- everything your eye could see had some symbolism of RJB festivities. Almost like everyone was under Ram's spell. On tumblr, while scrolling I then came across that post of your which I mentioned earlier. And I couldnt scroll past it. I decided to read on it. Why were people killed for chanting that one name? Was it really that deep? Are Hindus still carrying scars of that event that many have said didnt even happen? Is Ram really that relevant? Is he even real? So many temples for him and yet why are they fighting for that one? Cant they just pray in the other temples? And when I digged, the amount of skeletons that jumped out were the worst reality check I have had so far in life. I was a mess, I still am. It is atrociously horrific. The more I read the truth of all the events, of our past, of our present struggles- it is so unbearable.

Its been two months since the event and I could only bring myself to send this to you today. I am beyond horrified with the reality. I went to the temple near my society on the 22nd. The crowd there was spellbound. When Ram Lalla's face was shown on the projector, I expected everyone to raise Jai Shree Ram slogans but everyone was so quiet. Crying. Sobbing. It was bizarre to witness it in real time. I teared up watching all of the people sob around me. I didnt even care for him then, in fact Shri Ram's character as I had known of him until then was one of "that misogynist king who wronged his wife". I was fairly negative to him and yet I too couldn't help but sob on that day while looking at him. He appeared so real, so adorable-so alive! I had always seen the gods as just stone but on that day his eyes- I swear they looked alive. I tried hard to see the stone but i couldnt overlook the god. The smile, the eyes, the cheeks- so sober, so lovable.

That was the day I witnessed in real time who he really is. He is the king that united everyone across the country behind one cause. Poorest of the poor and Richest of the rich- they all stood side by side that day. Everyone celebrated, everyone cried. Thats who Ram is to the people of this country. Ayodhya is hundreds of miles away from where I live and yet on that day it felt like we were all standing right there in this court. I couldnt even decide what i felt about it for many days after that but on the 22nd I found myself healing from some wound that I didnt even know I needed to heal from. Hearing about that one scrap-collector lady that donated a measly 20 rupees for the Ram temple; about that one gold merchant who spent a fortune on the golden gates of the temple- it was extremely eye opening. People of this country are so mad in love with him. Rightly so. He accepts them all. As the story goes, he doesnt differentiate between a little squirrel or the mighty vaanars. Two months later, I am now desperately seeking his refuge too. I dont know if I would ever be able to live the euphoria of that again however the very fact that I could feel his presence despite all of my reservations against him for all of my life means that he doesnt hold a grudge against me. He included me in the celebrations and now I wish someday I can feel attached to him the way all those people who laid their lives for his cause did. Jai Siya Ram

As far as Ram Janmbhoomi goes, I was unaware of it as well, for almost all my life. I was raised to turn my head the other way, should I notice things that might be controversial. My father was the first one in my family to break out of the mold and search up the atrocities that have happened in our country, especially against Hindus, as those are the ones that the general media seems eager to push under the rug. From him, i started learning more and later it became my own idea to never be unaware of what has been and is being inflicted on Hindus.

Personally, when I was younger, I felt similar about Shri Ram. Why did he abandon his wife? If he abandoned her on the word of a washerman, what does it mean for us, mere humans?

It is only when I got older that i understood that this part was not in the original Ramayan, at all. This is from Tulsidas Ji's Ramcharitmanas. And it has been popularised extremely to the stretch that it lost the meaning. Tulsidas Ji's narration of Shri Ram abandoning his wife is, in a way, to show that Shri Ram was the epitome of control and law and abided by the law as well as the wishes of his citizens even when it was not beneficial to him. Agnipariksha, in the Ramayan, was to exchange a illusion of Mata Sita with the real Mata Sita. This, in my idea, is because Mata Sita is Lakshmi herself. She would not stay in a place where women are not respected.

What I mean is, our texts are large and elaborated with metaphors. Sometimes, interpolation as well as local folk tales also become a part of our interpretation of such texts. I am not giving you excuses, but reasons for your misinterpretation of Shri Ram.

Shri Sadhguru Shridhara Swami

The saint I am about to share details about is very close to my heart. Many people in my district worship him as a great Guru. I chant his name and have visited his samadhi several times. He is my Guru and has guided me during difficult times. My grandfather's family was fortunate enough to receive his blessings. Many members in my family including my father tell the tales of Miracles he performed near our hometown. The most fortunate part is that he resided near my hometown on several occasions and blessed many people. Below are some excerpts from the internet. He is the one I remember on Guru purnima everytime.

Early life:

Shri Shreedhara Swami Maharaj was born in a Brahmin family to Narayan Rao and Kamalabai Deglurkar on 7 December 1908 in Lad Chincholi, Karnataka. He was born on Datta jayanti in the evening when the chariot carrying Guru Datta was passing by the house. He was born as a boon given by Adi guru Dattatreya to his parents, as they prayed to adi guru Dattatreya to be born as their child. He was a devotee of Lord Ram and a disciple of Samarth Ramdas. When Shreedhara Swami was 3 years old he lost his father and thereafter his mother and elder brother Trimbak took care of the family. Young Shreedhara was admitted to a school in Hyderabad for his primary education. Since the very early days he was spiritually inclined. One recorded incident from his early childhood is as follows: He had once fallen very ill and had lost a lot of days at school because of it. Thus he feared that he might fail in the examinations. His mother then told him to constantly chant the name of Lord Ram and that he would see him through the exams. He solemnly started doing that so much so that he finally did not do any studies at all and all the time chanted the name of Ram. On the day of examination he went without reading anything and to the surprise of everybody he answered every question so nicely that he did secure first rank. Shreedhar Swami's elder brother died when he (Shreedhar) was just ten. His mother, unable to cope with the shock and prolonged illness, soon followed him. After her death Shreedhar Swami went to Gulbarga to live with his aunt and continued his education there. After spending a few years in Gulbarga, he headed for Pune where he lived in an orphanage for sometime. Here his urge for spiritual enlightenment grew and on the suggestion of one Mr. Palnitkar, he embarked on a journey to Sajjangad with the intent of seeking spiritual knowledge at the place where Shri Samarth Ramdas had resided nearly three hundred years ago.

Awakening:

Sajjangad was the abode of Swami Samarth Ramdas for the last six years of his life. Legend has it that Samadhi stone surged out of its own at the cremation place of Shri Samartha on the very next day of his nirvana. Shri shridhar swami's yearning for a spiritual awakening at this point can be gauged by the fact that he started to dispose all his money to the poor and the remaining he just threw. He liked a particular sweet dish, so he bought it, kept it in front of Lord Ram's idol and then mixed cow dung in it and ate it. Now he could not even think about the dish he once liked so much. On the day of departure to Sajjangad, Which also coincided with Vijayadashmi, he suddenly felt that he was going there to find out the creator of the universe who had control over the living, nonliving things and also time and space. After one and a half years of having arrived at Sajjangad, Samarth Ramdas himself blessed Shreedhar Swami. Later, he directed him to go south to Karnataka and spread the real message of Sanatan Vedic Dharma.

Religious revival:

For the next thirteen years, Shreedhar Swamiji toured most of south India on foot. He used to halt at temples and Mathas where he would deliver discourses on Sanatan Vedic Dharma for religious upheaval. During his travels he made acquaintances with many other well known Hindu religious leaders and saints. The most significant of these was with Sivananda Swamiji of Shigehalli. He also visited the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and performed meditation there. In 1942, Shreedhar Swami took Sanyas at Shigehalli and was accorded the title, 'Shreemat Paramhans Parivrajakacharya Bhagwan Shreedhar Swami'. After this till 1967, he extensively toured all over India and through his speeches, writings and spiritual initiatives, spread the core messages of the Vedas among common people. He, returned south to Varadapura in 1967 where he set up an ashram. He practised, held Hindu exorcism in various holy places, temples including Kolgibis (Kumta road), to drive ghosts, spirits out of any hosts body they have taken over, using his mantradanada staff. Shreedhar Swamiji was a gifted composer and fluent in Marathi, Sanskrit, Kannada, Hindi and English. All through his extensive travelling, he managed to spare some time for religious writing. His aim was to simplify the complex nuances of vedic teaching into a form that would be easily digestible to the common man.

Final days:

On the first day of the second half of the first month of the Hindu calendar, Swamiji's health deteriorated. The disciples again pleaded for bringing a doctor, but Swamiji again refused and told them that Samarth Ramdas had told that the bodily pains should be considered as pleasures. He enquired what day was the next one and when told about that he knew that it was a day for very auspicious things, but didn't tell it to anyone. Then as usual he took bath thrice, had a little milk and rested for a while in the night and spent the rest of the time in sahaj Samadhi avastha. Swamiji got up the next morning at 5 am. After the morning chores he sat in meditation for a while. He came out of the meditation room at 8 am. The disciples requested him to have some milk, to which he agreed and again sat in meditation. Swamiji in sitting position and in meditation twice said 'Om, Om' and then from the upper side of his body through the head he made his soul leave his body to be eternally unified with the Parbramha. Despite this his posture didn't change nor did his facial expressions. In fact the aura around his face became brighter for a while. This was at 9 am on 19 April 1973. After a while Swamiji had attained the Ultimate Samadhi.

Reflections

If you all read my previous post about loneliness, FOMO, feeling lost and alone as young teens and questioning if it's all gonna be worth it in the end or if you are actually in the right place now especially while preparing for entrances or just navigating through life as a high schooler and getting overwhelmed about life and the sudden changes it's throwing at you, this post is not going to be any gyan dena moment rather my own reflection over certain things.

I stay less online nowadays or even when I am using social media, it's to watch classical dance related posts or things related to women scientists, pharmacy and other bioscience subjects that I have interest in. No more random scrolling or reading two people debate in the comments be it on any xyz topic.

I began meditating again. I wish I would have actually done it before in my drop year. Perhaps I would have produced a better result due to a calm state of mind. Anyway, at least I started now. Each time I have meditated, I have found many answers to different things, be it about spirituality or questions related to my future. I have found the answers in those small moments of silence. I am no master at meditation, but somehow I have had many intense experiences which I don't post much often about because I myself doubt over it, but I can never forget those visions.

Let's talk about simple plain hate. I remember feeling rage over watching people hating on each other because the other person is from a different sex, religion, country, race and caste. Online or offline it happens everywhere.

Men hate women, women hate on other women, men hate other men and all of it pits one against the other. Hindus hate Muslims and Muslims hate hindus. The upper caste still looks at the lower with disdain especially some of our elders. Straights hate lgbtq and really want them to not exist. A colleague hates another one who got a promotion and inside the family someone hates the hater and literally prays for their downfall.

So?

This was from one of my early morning meditations. My mind drifted to news articles, podcasts by men saying demeaning things about women, and religious hate about both Hindus and Muslims where I saw some Muslims making fun of Hindus and Hindus taking pride in not having a single Muslim friend putting a jai shri ram status. It then moved to how people living in a single country, eating the produce of the farmers and being protected by the army still wrote things like what has been really given to us? Why to be proud of the Indian scientists (the chandrayan fiasco here on tumblr) and then to foreigners hating on India etc.

I remember the disturbance in my body, the blinding rage over how we humans have a problem with any person being different from us, and sometimes that problem leads to such anger and such hatred in us that we want them to remove them from existence or worse have them die a very bad painful death.

Some blogs write about oh how Indian culture sucks and how bad everything all is etc etc. I am not going to delve deeper into it and tbh I am not even worried if this falls into the feed of those same types of blogs. While meditating I found out how they themselves hated simple people who just had fun with their gods goddesses and spirituality. They were right to put awareness but wrong to make a assumption about oh yes they are too the same, they will hate and abuse other religions and stuff like that.

I have received hate anons which I always deleted but somewhere it used to be in the back of the mind making me fear about am I really wrong why would they write that for me?

And when i meditated that day it all became clear. Everyone, all of us, as we grow up, we are conditioned by the society, our family, school and media. Sometimes the influence is good and sometimes bad. Hate has existed in humanity since the start.

It only takes one single difference, be it ideology, caste, sex, and religion to trigger the hate button. And there you go we hate and hurt our own fellow beings.

We all have had various prejudices about various things. Maybe yes some weren't as vile as wanting tje other person off from earth but yes we all have had confused looks and questions thinking that what we believe and we say is right. The other person is always wrong in front of me.

And then vishnu gave me the answer. Detachment. Haan bhai ab kya moh maya se durr hone vala concept idhar bhi?

One has to know what is going on around the world. You will encounter articles, dramatic debates, blogs and people having their varied viewpoints. You can argue as long as you want and all those seemingly civil debates turn to abusive words, and hate messages.

The people online, those articles etc are just a fraction of people. Shit exists, bad things happen and ALL OF US ARE WRONG in many ways for many things. The simple lone knowledge of our dark thoughts for another person being different than us is enough to actually pull the reigns of the mind and to not give in to hate and ill will.

Now I still read news about how one community fought the other, look at the Twitter hashtags and just let it be. And for online apps, i scroll away from posts that talk about their own thoughts about the happenings in the country because it will be tempting to know what others think and ofc I will have problem in my head with another person if they go against than my belief. It literally happens to everyone sabko sabse dikkat hoti hai bas tum uspe kaam na karke usko buri baatein na suna dena na. Na uska soch badlega na tumhara.

And then at one point, the rage cooled down with a simple thought: I can't change anything. I am not perfect in thoughts and so does the other person.

Discrimination, war, poverty exists and we can never completely remove it. The least we can do is not hurt the other person if we don't like them.

I haven't seen a lot of life. I am still young but from my experience living in cities and amongst different sections of the society, this is what I learnt and the lesson got deeply engraved into me.

None of us are perfect. Let's try to learn to listen to one another and not go into blind anger. All those twitter tags, hate filled posts and articles are worthless.

100 baat ki ek baat. Sab badme marrne vale hai aur tum jisko hate karte ho agle janam usi community ya religion mein paida hoge just so you learn especially the damn soul to love everyone.
