Edwin approached the sofa and leaned forward to inspect the smudges of iridescent green powder on Charles’ cheekbones. “It looks like lucinatio powder. Pixies are known to use it. With ghosts, it causes effects similar to drunkenness. We have seen this toxin a few times before –“

“The Case of the Loopy Landlady!” Charles interrupted, before going back to tapping the lamp.

“Yes, Charles, well remembered. If I am correct, he is under the influence of the toxin.”

“Will he be ok?” Crystal asked.

“Hmm,” Edwin considered. He pulled out his notebook and flipped through until he found the notes he had recorded on lucinatio powder several years ago. He was not overly concerned. They would be in for a long night of what would essentially be babysitting his impulsive best friend, but Charles would suffer no long-term ill effects from the powder. “The toxin will wear off in six to eight hours. We will need to get him back to the office and keep him out of trouble. He should be fine otherwise.”

“No trouble here, mate.” Charles tipped his head back to look at Edwin, which caused the room to spin around him. He wobbled sideways and slid off the couch to land sprawled on the carpet. “’M on the floor, aren’t I?” Charles chuckled, looking up at Edwin like they were sharing a joke.  

“Quite.” Edwin brought his hands together and pursed his lips.

Okay, I don't know if anyone already noticed this, and maybe it's just a coincidence; like I don't know if the people behind the show actually planned it and how far in advance - again, if they did planned it.

Last night I was rewatching the show and in episode two, when Charles and Edwin are talking about Crystal, after Charles said "maybe that's why I like her so much", he also add something like "see? We are already figuring this out". Moving forward to "the case of the very long starway" episode, after Edwin's confession, Charles said something like "and we've got like forever to figure out what the rest means". I know that some of the words are different and it's probably my mind making connections that aren't there; but, even beside the words, the fact that Charles talked about "figuring this/things out" twice while referring Edwin or his relationship with Edwin or with other people but based on what he has with Edwin.

So, coincidence? Maybe yes, but it's still interesting to me... and it made me internally scream when I realized it, so there's that too.

Also, "the case of the very long starway" could have been titled something like "the case of the dead boy detective in hell" or I don't know "the case of a detective to save", I'm clearly not good with titles; but the fact that they pick a central moment of Edwin's characters, centered around his feeling and his love confession and that open romantic moment between them on said staircase? Does it sound like a coincidence? I would say it does not

I also love the hc that Edwin needed to confess to Charles in orther to get out of hell. He needed to stop being angry, to think, to clarify that he wasn't angry to Simon, to Charles and to himself. But most importantly, he needed to let go of his past through forgiveness ("come with me") and accept his feelings and that part of himself ("Charles, I'm in love with you").

That's why he confessed on the stairs, still in hell; because he needed to feel worthy of scaping in orther to do so.

Charles doesn't want to move on because he's happy with Edwin

but when Edwin is upset with him he can't help but hope he moves on so that Edwin doesn't have to deal with him anymore, hopes that when he moves on it's somewhere awful because Edwin had to deal with that without deserving it and he obviously deserves it so his must be worse and he'd be grateful because its what he deserves and he has to deserve it, like how he deserved what his dad did

and then Edwin isn't upset with him anymore and Charles feels so guilty for ever thinking about abandoning Edwin that he pushes those thoughts to the back of his mind because he doesn't think that, he can't think that, he's been running away from death why would he ever think that why would he ever be suicidal
