Got the first 2 episodes in of "My Lady Jane" and I'm loving it!!! 😀 Going into this knowing it's a historical comedy and it even making it known it's set in an alternate universe with fantasy elements is great as unlike period dramas you know it's not going to be historically accurate so it's just fun and funny. LOL I like how they've adapted the book too and Jane & Guildford have great chemistry, and I love Edward VI too. Plus, being a fan of Rob Brydon I keep cracking up so much at his scenes as John Dudley, but I also noticed he weirdly looks like Robert Dudley's portraits when he was older. LOL I'm curious to see how this goes, and we get more of Elizabeth I since she's one of my favorite queens. And for us concerned about Robert I can now put behind a cut for spoilers about him and I'm curious to see what happens there too.

So like in the book we see that Guilford has a weird thing with his animal shapeshifting and he's stuck as his animal during the day but human at night. He's not the only Dudley sibling that is like this as all the others including Robert are too but he's stuck in animal form all the time, which is also why they're looking for a cure so they can either stay human or go back to being able to shift whenever. Their brother Stan (who is a mashup in the book of their other brothers) didn't inherit this and is only human but they all have to keep it secret with them being hunted. So that's why human Robert isn't in the book as he's stuck as an animal but they hint at being able to cure the other siblings and Elizabeth I does become queen still at the end so it's hinted things play out between her and Robert like in our world too.

Now that I have watched 90% of My Lady Jane (I didn't want to watch the drama bits after a while and just fastforwarded to the guilford and jane bits, which is prolly why I don't get people shipping her and archer) I have questions.

The narrator said that being an Ethian is like genetics, something you can't control. It's just inherited. Does that mean a child born to two ethian parents might become something like a liger? Cause genes do mix sometimes. Cause there hasn't been a two-ethian-parent child yet. Is that gonna be like in the Avatar with mooseducks and whatnot?

How much of history is going to be changed? Edward is alive, and gay. And if he gets the throne back he won't be having an heir. Mary and Elizabeth obviously never had children; Mary drove herself insane with wanting one and trying to keep the throne, and I guess Elizabeth was too traumatized to ever let a man near her again.

When did Elizabeth change? Was it when her mother was killed? How is she able to hide it so effectively? I'm sure she's had to contend with Mary all of her life, and then her stepmother's secret paramour on top of that. And her keeping her true self hidden from absolutely everyone sounds very safe, she prolly has learned neither side can be trusted. But who does know?

Btw the narrator said Anne had the ax person come to make her death quick, I'd heard that that was Henry? Maybe it was just the historian trying to make him sound better than he was.

(This one's more a note than anything) I'm sure that Stanley and Guildford are half brothers. For one, we know the whole genetics thing from the incredibles; Violet has to have been adopted bc her hair color gene doesn't come from having a brunette mother and blonde father.

It's been a while and I can't keep track of all the long male names in England's tudor history; what happens to Seymour after Mary marries Phillip, is he still going to be loyal to her or was he just loyal cause of the bdsm?

my lady jane was really cute.... the main romance was clearly not made for me i do NOT care about that but the premise is really cool and i'm always a sucker for anything that's both history and fantasy so yayy delicious

The fuller Darcy next-gen headcanon, while I'm at it:

Elizabeth Jane (Lizzy) Darcy. She's quiet, withdrawn, dutiful, and intense. Strong eldest daughter vibes. She's very handsome and expected (not by her parents so much as their wider social circle) to be charming and witty to go with it, like her mother, and is neither; she low-grade resents her while also idolizing her. Gets on well with her father and most of her aunts, but rarely confides in anyone.

Edward Darcy (named for Mr Gardiner and Lord —). He's sensible, down-to-earth, loyal, earnest, and easy-going. Very much wants to live up to his strong sense of responsibility as The Heir. Most people like him well enough without having a strong impression of his feelings or personality. Gets along well with both parents, but is slightly intimidated by his father's sterling reputation and force of presence.

Christopher Darcy (Kit, named after Darcy's father in my headcanons). He's high-spirited, clever, friendly, and very content in his own skin, more so than any of his siblings. Like Edward, he's easy-going and practical, but more energetic. He can be a bit careless and outspoken, even impertinent, while also able to pull on a touch of hauteur when annoyed. His spirits and confidence can make him exasperating at times, but also endearing to pretty much everyone around him, including both parents.

Georgiana Darcy. She has quite a bit in common with her brother Kit; she's not quite as comfortable with herself, but she's at least as fearless and impulsive (Voted Child Most Likely To Give Her Caretakers Headaches). She's quick-witted and can get carried away with her own ideas, but is also gregarious and kind, and readily befriended the family's shy charity case, her cousin Fanny Price Bella Wickham.

Honorable mention next-gen characters: Bess Wickham, the most driven, intelligent, and calculating of the Wickham children; George Wickham, her closest sibling, less ambitious but more careless; Martha Bingley, a bubbly, inquisitive, matchmaking middle Bingley child; and Sarah Gardiner, born a few months after P&P ends, thoughtful, pragmatic, and courteous.

on the bright side, the MLJ show made me look up the book for the first time in years, and I've discovered there's a second series focusing on rewriting historical Marys, and one of them is a sequel to MLJ covering Mary Queen of Scots and her troubles in Verity France so I'll be reading that now

We are going to miss so many cool scenes that could have been adapted from the book. For example:

The travel to France, the aliance with Mary of Scotland, the little adventure of Guildford and Edward, but maybe Stan in this case, the debut of Queen Bess BUT Especially the second wedding, that part I would have been very happy to see it because they deservet a wedding where they are happy and in love and arround of his friends and family in the daytime.
