Just occurred to me
Viola Lloyd and Edmund O'Mara are canonically the most hardcore ant-Damie.

Conversation
Hannah: Oh, I talked to Dani today, and apparently she and Edmund might break up.
Jamie: Oh, how awful!
Hannah: Jamie, you're smiling.
Jamie: Am I? Hmm.

“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to...I don’t need you to be my date to Owen’s mum’s funeral.”
Jamie offers her a choice. Not to do the cliché Jamie vs. Eddie comparison, but I think it’s one of the first times Dani herself recognizes the difference between the two, the distinction further heightened by the glimpse of Eddie she sees in the mirror. She doesn't feel pressured.
There’s a difference between someone offering you an out and feeling like you can actually take it. She’s still working on putting her own wants and needs first for once.
At the engagement party, at dinner, Eddie offers Dani a way out, but custom and obligation doesn’t allow her to comfortably accept. But, in her bedroom, with Jamie, she feels safe enough to stay back.  You can see the moment she realizes Jamie means what she says, the sigh of relief, the tension draining from her shoulders. That is really is okay if Dani doesn’t go to the funeral. It’s as refreshing as it is surprising, and it puts Dani more at ease.

AU in which Jamie is taken in by the O'Mara family, and Dani grows up wedged between two best friends with dark hair, learning slowly how to fall in love.
Dani Clayton is six years old when the O’Mara family moves in across the street. The world, for the most part, makes perfect sense in ways that will unravel in two short years. She understands the suburban block on which she’s lived her entire life, the breadth of her father’s hands, the shine of her mother’s eyes. She understands everything.
The O’Mara family makes sense, too. The father is quiet, but kind; the mother is all bright smiles, the kind of hug Dani could get lost in. There are three boys, and one is even her own age: a small-boned, curly-haired boy introduced as Edmund, who scuffs a hand under his nose and corrects, “Eddie” when his mother isn’t looking.
“Dani,” Dani tells him in the same furtive whisper, though her mother thinks nicknames ought to be reserved for pets and special occasions. It’s like a secret handshake between them, a moment of perfect clarity, and she is confident in her own assertion to Eddie’s mother that she will be his new best friend. It’s important, she believes, to say these things out loud. To tell the universe what’s what.
She is six, and the world makes perfect sense. Eddie is her new best friend. Judy will befriend her mother the same way. Her father will watch football with the boys, they’ll all pile into the Clayton backyard for weekend barbecues, and the world will make sense forever.

I know we’ve talked about Dani thanking service workers at literally every opportunity, and I agree that part of it is probably Midwestern courtesy, but I also think it’s a reflection of how she feels like she’s burdening people by merely existing. She's an inconvenience; she has to apologize for needing things.
After her father died, she grew up fending for herself. When the O’Maras took her in, she felt out of place. She's not someone who likes to be indebted to people for their kindness. She has to pay them back somehow. So, in this case, she felt like she owed it to them to be with Eddie.
Makes sense why she went into teaching. Caring for kids to repay the universe for taking care of her. Repay her debt to society for being a drain on its resources when she was younger.
Probably made burdening Jamie with Viola’s reappearance that much harder when the time came.

#ok so first off dani is just so fucking cute always#secondly this is so...genuinely sad to look at? bc you can see how intwined their lives were#and how much love was genuinely there#and it breaks my heart that dani not only had so much guilt at being only platonically in love with him#but also the idea following her that she literally was responsible for the death of her best friend#also someone made the observation that eddie’s arms are around her a lot but it’s much less vice versa#and i think that’s interesting to pick up on#because you can tell from all of these that he didn’t coerce her but that there’s telltale signs of it being one sided#also i think a lot about the complexity of their relationship#because for dani like....he must have genuinely felt almost like a brother#and that combined with lack of reciprocated attraction is just a Very Strange Dynamic for her to navigate#so no wonder we get the implication even in the flashback scenes of just how lonely she is#because she’s slowly watched her best friend come to represent everything she’s scared of her future becoming#getting trapped in tradition with someone she doesn’t love romantically and always having to suppress her lesbianism#while having to keep up the pretence because she feels too guilty to do otherwise#both to him as his fiancée and to his family who have been so generous to her and to whom she feels massively indebted#i just#[screams] via @lorelaislatte
I don’t know if this is even possible or if you had already done it, but I’d like to see like Eddie and Dani’s “sweetheart pictures” you know, like the ones in the collage when they’re having the engagement party. I’ve always wanted to take. A closer look of them (dk if you can’t zoom in with gifs honestly)
Thanks anyways!
i can try to get a good screen grab of them! just give me a minute
