With the release of the new DnD movie soon and the increase in popularity in the game, how do you think Eddie in this AU feels about it? Does he have long ass rants on Tiktok/his livestreaming platforms?
I think Eddie would be ecstatic.
Not just that people are getting into the game more, but for the movie itself. He’s talked about it enough times on his channel that some people have been like, “…Is this a sponsor?”
Some of his fans think that he’s going to make a cameo in the movie, but he’s not. He just thinks that it looks like a fun movie, made by people who seem like they love the game. And also, Chris Pine.
He’d love to see the movie on opening night, “But SoMeBoDy has other obligations.”
Steve, who agreed to cover for the Girls’ Basketball coach while she’s on maternity leave months ago, just gives Eddie a look because this has been an ongoing conversation, “Go with Dustin.”
“I don’t want to go with Dustin. I want to go with you.”
“Go with Dustin,” Steve repeats, “And then we’ll go see it over the weekend. You can warn me if they use strobe lights.”
I think when Eddie does go on his long ass rant (Monologue. It’s a monologue, Steve), it’s about gatekeeping. People are getting more and more into D&D and there are always a few fans who try to gatekeep. When one of Eddie’s fans mentions that they were discouraged from playing because they don’t know everything about the game, he’s like, “You don’t gotta know everything! All you need is some dice, some friends, and basic math skills. Or a calculator. Anybody telling you that you need more than that is a fraud.”
Another fan says that they’re interested in playing, but their boyfriend says that girls can’t play D&D. Eddie’s just like, “Yeah, dump him. Anybody who says that girls can’t play D&D can talk to Maxine Mayfield-Sinclair. Some of the most insane things shit that has happened in my campaigns have been because of girls. They’ll come up with some of the wildest shit you can think of and save their party’s ass. Tell ‘em hon.”
“You ever see girls play barbies?” Steve asks. “It’s like that but with math. You’ll be alright at it.”
