Have another SAMS short because I can't sleep and want attention. This is Floating through time, I promise I'm fine.
Eclipse rocked back and fourth on the couch, mindlessly fiddling with a cube Moon had gotten him, the colors were mixed and matched, and no matter how hard he tried he couldn't get more than two sides to have one solid color. It felt weird being out and about, moving around instead of stuck in the vast black expanse of his mind. it often felt overwhelming, he had a hard time moving his body the way he wanted, limbs jerked suddenly and weird noises erupted from his voice box. Don't get him wrong, he loved being back in control, after five decades of blackness, it only felt like a second. Like when you sleep, you close your eyes and then suddenly your alarm is going off.
Eclipse was dimly aware of what he had done, and while Moon, Earth, and Sun tried telling him that he wasn't the cause to the horrible things that had happened, he still felt guilty.
He could have done something, protected his counterparts from becoming completely him. he didn't feel welcome in this body, Moon had offered to build him a new one, something more stable, he had refused. He didn't need one, didn't deserve one. He deserved to be in this body, deserved to slowly deteriorate into a useless pile of metal, wires, and plastic. He couldn't help with the children, much to his dismay, but he helped clean up after they all left. It was for the best he didn't interact with the children anyway, who knew if... the other was fully gone or not. He didn't want to hear the screams anymore.
He liked the others though, Lunar was easy to talk to, he liked running along side the little puff ball. Monty was a brute (just like the old Monty) and enjoyed tossing Lunar into the air as they walked together. Monty joked about how Eclipses self esteem was lower than Suns (DEAD, HES DEAD AND ITS YOUR FAULT) Earth was kind and gentle and never forced Eclipse to talk, but the option was always there. She fix his rays a little bit... RAYS! Rays was nice too! And also had a strong bond with Lunar, almost everyone liked each other, kinda like a family... Eclipse felt bad for intruding here, he had offered to return to his home dimension (Hurt, Nǎo was going to hurt him).
...
"You are home" Moon said looking up from his desk, he had allowed Eclipse into his lab to watch him work, as long as he promised not to touch anything.
Home? No this wasn't home, he didn't live here, "b-"Eclipse tried.
"I'm not sending you back there" Moon set down his project and sat beside Eclipse, "You don't have to live at the pizza plex with us, but I promise you wont ever go back there"  Eclipse sat there for a moment, letting Moons words sink in.
"Eclipse? Are you ok-AY!" Moon was pressed into the back of the couch, Eclipse wrapped his arms around Moons middle tightly, nuzzling his face into Moons clean ruffles.
"Th-thank y-OPEN-ou" his voice was muffled as he felt something warm and wet slip down his face.
Moon slowly returned the hug, and unspoken promise between them. "Don't thank me, thank yourself" He pulled the older bot closer to his chest, "you were so brave" Eclipse's shoulders shook as he melted into Moons touch.
It wasn't his Moon, his Moon was long gone, but this Moon and everyone else who lived here was willing to take him in after everything had happened...
        He doesn't remember falling asleep.
...
Eclipse flopped onto the floor beside the little hut where Lunar was sleeping, gold and red eye watching the little one with care. He had been getting nightmares as of late, Eclipse stayed near so he could get Sun if need be. Lunar shifted, arms wrapping around a worn stuffed dog. Eclipse rested his head on top of his hands, eyes drooping as he watched the gentle rise and fall of Lunar's chest.
...
Eclipse sat up with a jolt, surprised to feel a new weight pressed against his mangled side, two arms tugged Eclipses over the little body, he watched with mild, tired, interest as Lunar tucked himself in. Eclipse shifted so Lunar could use his other arm as a pillow, resigning to the fact he would have a sore neck the next morning.
        "Clipse?"
Eclipse opened his eyes, glancing at the younger bot. "Yes?" he yawned, tears budding at the corners of his eyes.
"D- do you remember what it was like?" Lunar's voice was soft as he fiddled with the older's hands, joints creaking from years of wear and tear.
"What-t-t, what-t-t was like?" Eclipse had a hunch, not a very good one but a hunch none the less.
"bein' stuck in your head" Lunar curled in on himself as if embarrassed or nervous, Eclipse couldn't pin down one emotion. "Sorry, its stupid I'll jus-"
"No"
Lunar turned his head to look at the worn down bot, "what?"
"I said no" Eclipse repeated, slowly sitting up, fixing Lunar in his arms, "It-t-ts not st-t-tupid to be curious, you were merely asking a quest-t-tion" Eclipse rubbed Lunar's back as he leaned against the house, "don't-t-t ever apologize t-t-to me for want-t-ting t-t-to know someth-thing, FIZZY FAZ! okay?"
Lunar nodded, eyes drooping slightly as Eclipse continued to massage Lunar's back.
Eclipse didn't like being stuck in his head while the virus did god knows what, he remembers being tired, unable to move, listening to Virus taunt, play, and kill.
"Not-t-t fun, HAPPY BIRTH-TH-DAY! you know like when your asleep T-T-TAKE YOUR NAP! and someones conversat-t-tion worms it-t-ts way int-t-to your dreams?" Lunar nodded, head falling onto Eclipse's chest.
"I couldn't-t move much, like... I knew someth-thing was going on around CLEAN UP! me, but I couldn't-t-t do anything about it-t-t" Lunar perked up at that, eyes fully open once more.
"Liiike a fly st-t-tuck in a cube of jelly, th-thick and st-t-ticky makes NAUGHT-T-TY BOY! it-t-t hard t-to move" Eclipse thought about the long nights listening to the Other scream and fight Monty, the poor screams of the little groups of people. Eclipse hated it, it was his fault.
"You know times passing but you can't do anything about it?" Lunar asked, and Eclipse wished he could remove the knowing look off of Lunar's face, wishing the young bot didn't have to go through what he did.
"Yeah, like th-that-t-t" Eclipse says sadly rubbing the top of Lunar's head. Eclipse could understand why he had to go through that, but Lunar? Lunar hadn't deserved anything bad that happened to him. It wasn't fair! Eclipse slowly lowered them back to the ground, "T-t-try t-t-to get-t-t some sleep, alright?"
Lunar didn't answer, unless you count snores that could put Suns to shame as an answer. Eclipse chuckled then turned off his voice box, not wanting to have a random spasm and wake the younger bot. Eclipse pulls the younger closer to his chest and falls into the welcoming arms of sleep once again.
Eclipse stared at the body before him, it looked like him, only not so beat down. Actually, not beat down at all, the body was pristine, the rays not jagged and mangled, the hands had casing, the body had mismatched colors still, but it was more pattern like than anything else. The hat had its bell and the pants were full and long, the slippers weren't ripped, and the face, oh the face. He carefully reached out to touch it, hand jerking into a roll before landing on the body's cheek. He looked up at Moon and Sun.
Sun stood there eagerly, hands clasped tightly to keep himself from fidgeting, it didn't do much considering he was bouncing up and down like a child.
Moon had stuffed one hand into his pocket while the other was trying to get Sun to stay still, but he was rocking back and forth eagerly himself.
"Why?" Eclipse asked softly, returning his gaze to the bot on the floor.
"Because we didn't want you stuck in your own mangled body for the rest of forever?" Moon said, "that and I couldn't repair your original body even if I tried, did you know your voice box it melted into your head?"
Eclipse shrugged, blinking in surprise as a few drops of oil fell down his face, he didn't deserve this, why were they being so nice? He didn't understand. A hand grabbed his shoulder, causing him to yelp. "Sorry!" Earth squeaked (when did she get here?) the two stared at one another for a moment, "would you like a hug?" Eclipse nodded numbly, letting Earth pull him close.
He wasn't surprised when two more body's pressed against him, instead he nuzzled into the crook of Earths neck, smiling at the smell of dirt and rain. His smile grew slightly as something small clambered into his lap, pressing its head against his stomach. Earths free hand came up to pet the back of his head as Eclipse began to sob, clutching to Earth like a lifeline.
They all stayed like that for some time, until Eclipses head jerked backwards, scratching Earths neck and slamming into Moon.
Eclipse and Moon groan in pain as Earth releases one of her hands to check her neck. Lunar starts giggling as Sun begins to check his brother and sister's injury's. Eclipse carefully removes himself and Lunar from the blob of attendants that was quickly becoming panicked from Suns panic. Lunar continued to laugh, writhing in the older bots arms.
Perhaps he should take the body, if not for himself then for the others. He yelped as one of his arms jerked out, he would have dropped Lunar had he not jerked his arms around Eclipses neck in panic. Case and point he supposed.
Eclipse stood at the balcony, watching the children filtering in slowly. Lunar was grasping his hand tightly while Moon leaned against the wall, he wouldn't come down unless the others truly needed help. Seeing Moon usually set the children straight.
"You ready?" Lunar asked, looking up at Eclipse. He nodded dumbly not trusting himself to speak.
"OK!" Lunar said releasing his hand and standing in front of Eclipse, "Sun, Earthy and I are going to do this biiiig build up! then when Sun says 'here he comes' you walk out onto the balcony, do a big entrance, and then jump into the pit!" Lunar put his hands on his hips, "got it?"
"Yeah I got it" He replied, smoothing out his pants. Oh how he wished he could just stay in the little hut forever.
"Alright! See you soon!" Lunar stuck out his arms and leaned back, gravity taking him down, and letting out a loud Whooop! Leaving Eclipse and Moon left.
The two stood there for a moment, listening to Lunar and Suns voices careen through the daycare, mixing with a softer voiced Earth and the sound of screaming children. Moon cringed at the loudness of it all while Eclipse edged forward, soaking it all in.
"You excited?" Moon asked, snapping Eclipse out of his daze.
"Hm? Oh, yeah" Eclipse gripped the curtain tightly,  swaying back and forth in anticipation.
Moon nodded "right, you're welcome to come back up here if it gets to much" Moon crossed his arms, fondly watching Lunar and Earth herd the children into a semi-circle around Sun. "No one would judge you, Sun and Lunar have done it a few times"
Eclipse nodded again. "LOOK! HERE HE COMES" Sun shouted pointing up to the balcony, Earth and Lunar turned around in mock surprise while the children shoved each other to get a good look at Eclipse.
"Show time" Moon said backing away to give Eclipse some space. Right, Eclipse walked- no, he skipped to the edge of the balcony dipping into a deep bow.
"HELLO FRIENDS!" He screamed, coming out of his bow, jumping off the balcony and forcing his body into a pirouette in the air before falling into the pit.
Show time indeed.

And the Puppets Danced- Chapter 7
A03 link here
Note: So because I’ve been doin things, you’re gonna get two chapters here today!
I smile as Logan steps out of the room, his suit perfectly tailored to fit him. It is a deep blue color that looks almost like the sky at night. “Sorry about taking so long, dearest. My limbs were very stiff, again.”
I shake my head. “Stretching is key, Lolo. Keeps out joints from popping out of place, you know.”
He chuckles. “Of course, my angel. Now,” he says, offering his arm to me. “Shall we?”
I reach out, wrapping my hand softly around his arm, a soft loving squeeze exchanged between us.
He stops a minute. “Your mask, my dear. Can’t let anyone see your pretty face, or recognize you more than needed~”
I feel heat rush to my face as he removes my glasses and places the mask on my nose. Holding it in place, I see him moving behind me for a moment, before I feel him tying up the strings.
I pout. “It’s itchy.”
His laugh echoes softly from beyond my vision. “I suppose you’ve never worn a mask before. So it would be a bit odd. There.” He walks back into my vision. “You look… stunning, Patt.”
I wave it off.
“No, really. You’re beautiful, Patton. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” He then pulls his mask up, and offers his arm once more.
I take it, and we walk outside into the pale light of the moon.
Someone whistles. “Well, well… In all my years, I’ve never seen something quite like this, before.” I blush, looking over at the smirking man.
“Remy!” I cry out in response to the other’s laughter.
“What?!? You’re adorable together.”
I bury my face in Logan’s shoulder. “I swear…”
Remy gasps. “Patton?!? SWEARING?!? The world is ending!” The others burst into laughter at the dramatics. Logan calms me with a soft rub on my back as the laughter drifts off.
I step out of Logan’s arms in time to see a grand carriage pull up. Gold and white, with a velvety red interior presents itself to us. I can’t help the soft gasp that emanates from my mouth.
Remy whistles. “Em, your boss outdid himself this time…”
Emile snorts. “King Roman’s whole job is outdo himself. I’m surprised he didn’t come get us himself. I suppose he’s busy, or he would.”
Remy nods.
Logan seems puzzled. “His Majesty actually talks and spoils his subjects?”
Remy laughs. “Of course! He holds these balls for free, so anyone can attend, and provides outfits for those who need them without cost.”
Emile nods. “He also provides food, drinks, and free time in the castle’s extensive library during these events. As long as you are not imposing on someone else, and enjoying your night, you’re basically allowed, and encouraged, to do anything.”
Remy and Emile lead us into the carriage as Remy speaks. “Why are you two shocked? How does your king treat you?”
We sit, quietly. Logan speaks up, softly. “People have to pay for everything. Taxes are high, and most people never even see a ball.”
I nod. “The balls are extravagant, but boring. All you’re allowed to do is dance, wait to dance, or talk to his Majesty.”
Emile coos sympathetically. “That’s… That’s awful…”
Logan nods this time. “It is, thinking about it. I guess… we never even noticed, since we were performing in the king’s castle so often.” He chuckles. “It seems that is another irony of our existence.”
Remy pats my shoulder, before speaking determinedly. “Well, I suppose we’ll have to give you two a night you’ll never forget, yeah?”
Emile nods. “The best night you two will ever have. And, maybe, you’ll find you like it here now.” He looks down. “Perhaps, and this is just a thought, you… don’t have to leave, tomorrow…?”
I blink, looking over to Logan. “Do you think-?”
Logan shakes his head, interrupting my thought. “No. I don’t believe we could stay, unfortunately.”
I nod. They’ll either hate us, or we’ll be unable to live by ourselves tomorrow, anyway…
“I see.” Remy says, voice soft. “Then… tonight’s your last night? Truly?”
Logan nods. “Yes.” He adjusts himself oddly. Must be cause of the spell wearing off…
We suddenly stop, and depart from the carriage. My jaw drops involuntarily at the sight.
A grand white castle with large spires and towers is framed by pale blue moonlight, stars shimmering in the sky behind. However, this light is countered by the bright candlelights out in front of us. Music floods out from the entrance, crashing down the stairs, and softly rolls across us. A few vines grow around the castle walls, breathing life into the castle’s outside.
I can hear Emile and Remy walking and talking ahead of us, and only now notice that we’re walking into the ballroom.
Logan is smiling brighter than I’ve ever seen him smile, and I can’t help but admire the way the light reflects off his eyes and hair for a moment before we step into the room.
We walk down the grand staircase as we look around. It looks… basically like any other ball. In fact, had I not known the theme, or the amenities for the people, I would’ve not batted an eye at it.
Logan is suddenly in front of me, bowing with a slight grin. “May I have this dance?”
I bow back, giggling. “You may.”
He slots himself into me, and we begin to move to the music. Just like our time in Master’s chambers, it’s new and exciting. Each step is different. We aren’t perfect, not by any means. But we’re together. And that’s what counts.
We stop as the music ends, and he smiles that soft, genuine smile of his. “Feel alright, Patt?”
I nod, despite feeling my face heat.
An odd couple taps on my shoulder causes me to turn. I can’t help the soft gasp that emits from my mouth.
A man dressed beautifully stands before me. He wears a white vest, with a red sash across the front, dark grey slacks and black shoes underneath. His mask is made of pure gold, and accents the gold stitching and plating across his shoulders and chest. A white gloved hand is extended to me with a soft smirk. “May I have this dance~?”
I look to Logan who nods. “Enjoy yourself, dear. I’m going to go to the library, so come find me when you’re finished.” He squeezes my shoulder, and heads out on his own.
I smile, nodding. “Of course, sir.”
He pulls me into a soft, comfortable grip. “Please, call me Roman.”
“Roman?” Have I heard that name before…? “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Yes. It’s nice to finally meet you as well, Patton. Emile has told me quite a bit about you and Logan.”
I blush. “Well, I hope not TOO much about us.”
He chuckles. “No, no. Just what I needed to know. My fiance was apparently a friend of yours.”
I blink. “Huh. Small world.”
He nods as the song ends and he steps back, bowing. “Indeed.” He offers his arm to me. “Come. Stroll through the gardens with me?”
Patton… Roman is the name of the king… You could finish this easily.
I take his arm, a softly painted smile on my lips. “Of course, your majesty.”

Part 1 - Insulted
“We are sure about this, Auntie.”
“Yes, Aunt (Y/N) let us take care of our little cousin.”
Bless Fili and Kili for always appearing at the very right moment, just like they did a few years ago during the quest to reclaim the now thriving Kingdom of Erebor.
“You don’t have to worry about anything, sister. I will be there in case the boys become reckless again.” Dis, your ever protective and caring sister-in-law, says as she carries your son’s bag filled with his essential needs.
Fili, while carrying little Thráin, gasped mockingly, “but amad, we are not reckless around our little cousin.”
“How could you ever accuse us, amad. You’ve hurt our feelings,” Kili added while clutching his chest to add the necessary effect.
“Do not ever go there and be overly dramatic, boys.” Dis reprimands, though humor is evident in her sapphire eyes. She turns to face both you and Thorin with a reassuring smile on her beautiful face and whispers, “I will also call for Tauriel’s help in case if I need an extra helping hand, and to put Kili in place just in case.”
Like you, Tauriel became a resident of Erebor when Kili made his courting official as she works as an ambassadress for Mirkwood. She also became your people’s center of insults, but she’s ever the resilient one. And it is something that you envied and wished to have during your darker days.
“Thank you, sister. And be sure to put him to bed on time, boys.” Thorin says gratefully after blowing a raspberry at your son’s chubby cheeks.
You could only do so much as to smile at the scene and giving thanks to your sister-in-law and your nephews as they take their leave to their bed chamber, with little Thráin a giggling mess in Fili’s arms as he continues to make fun of his older cousin’s braided mustache. Though you couldn’t help but fear that she only does this out of pity.
And it only made you feel worse.
You, and your then unborn son, were insulted by your people months ago. The damage was gravely inflicted that your confidence had diminished greatly, and insecurities and self-doubt have taken hold of your psyche.
Though Thorin had put an end to the insults, according to Fili and Kili, the negativity brought by the ordeal still lingered. And it became worse after you gave birth to your and Thorin’s first born.
“You look tired than ever, amrâlimê.” Thorin sighs as he leads you to your shared bed. “Are you worried about our dwarfling not being here with us tonight?”
“I’m not worried, my dear.” you reply while giving Thorin’s hands a reassuring squeeze as you try to look positive for him.
He couldn’t help but furrow his brows, his eyes ever pure like the brightest sapphires slowly dim with worry; both your fears and perturbation never escape from your husband’s ever observant eyes no matter how hard you try to hide it.
“But your eyes tell me differently,” Thorin says almost in a whisper, “please, tell me what my ghivashel troubles her so.”
You haven’t realized Thorin guiding you to your shared bed until you take a sit on one edge, still warm from when your son was lying and trying to learn to roll. He sits beside you, his eyes filled with concern and pain for seeing his wife in such a state.
“I believe I do not deserve you, Thorin,” you whisper after moments of silence. “Nor do I deserve to be blessed with such a wonderful son like our little Thráin.”
Thorin couldn’t believe what he is hearing. You, the light of his life, the mother of his son and his future children, his wife and Queen, do not deserve him? Though his visage conceals his disbelief his azure orbs show otherwise; how your self-accusations are anything but pure lies and how each word cuts him deeper than the ones he received in all his battles.
“Please do not speak such words, (Y/N),” he pleads while enveloping you in his embrace, hoping that it will serve as your anchor from drowning deeper in your pain, “it is I who does not deserve you.”
You couldn’t help but disagree. How could such a wonderful dwarf, King or not, is the one who is unworthy?
“But you deserve everything!” You exclaim while in between tears as you break away from his hold, your fears and worries now out in the open for Thorin to see, “you deserve only the best and I am not one of them.”
You are pulled back into your husband’s embrace as you let go of your pain; your heartache, your fears, your self-criticisms. Thorin knew he could’ve prevented all this if he had done something when news of the insults reached him for the first time, and it only makes him feel more responsible for it.
“I do not know why someone so imperfect and unworthy like me would be a mother to such a wonderful dwarfling like our son and wife to such wonderful and perfect husband like you!”
He suddenly captures your lips as he holds you closer, pouring out his undying love and devotion for you. As he feels you kiss him in return he slowly lowers his hand to your lower back in a slow, circular motion, calming and warming you slowly from the inside.
“You are the best among everything that had ever happened to me, amrâlimê,” Thorin says with endearment, his forehead leans on yours as he gives your nose a nudge with his own, “no one cares and loves our bouncing baby dwarf like his amad does.“
He then leans in to your ear, giving it a light nip before whispering.
“Have you also not realized you still make my knees weak and ignite my desires for you after all these years of our marriage?”
Though his words bring butterflies in your stomach and make your cheeks flush, your disbelief is still evident in your visage as you shake your head no, “impossible, I am not as beautiful as any of the dwarrowdams who still hound you wherever you go.”
“Clearly you are mistaken, my dearest.”
You are suddenly pushed down on your shared bed, your back against the soft fur covers as Thorin hovers on you. He then lightly runs his warm calloused fingers on your hands up to your exposed arms, leaving light but electrifying trails of burning sensations.
His eyes, ever the bluest hues that you’ve ever seen in your life, are now eclipsed with his pupils, almost making it look black, filled with burning adoration, love, and desire.
“No matter how those dwarrowdams hound me they will not have me divert my love and affections away from my wife.”
He then leave trails of burning desire on your face and neck with his fingers followed by his lips, just like how he traced your delicate features for the first time on your wedding night. Though your mind is still clouded with self-doubts and fears, you can’t help but mewl as you lean further into his touch, hoping to feel his desires for you even further.
“Your beauty is unmatched by any living maiden in Middle Earth, whether of men, those of the elves, or the dwarrowdams,” Thorin says, his voice dropping in a couple of decibels, “they do not make me swoon, make me weak in the knees, make me look at you like a young dwarrow who falls in love for the first time.”
He then gently nips your neck, looking for that particular pleasure point that makes you moan his name, “and they do not make me crave for you like a starved man deprived from food and thirsty for water.”
“I still cannot comprehend why you chose me, my Thorin,” you whispered as few tears of happiness cascade your cheeks as you cradle his bearded cheeks with your shaking hands; your inner demons slowly losing its hold on your mind.
“It is simple, my (Y/N),” Thorin replies as he slowly unties the laces of your dress, his eyes filled with love like nothing matters in this world than you, “because you are the love of my life; my light, my lifeline, my world.”
“And you are a goddess; a goddess that makes my life a true blessing,” he adds, giving each of your palms with kisses.
"So please, let me show you how my words are true, ghivashel.”
As the light of the full moon shines above the Lonely Mountain, with all life under it welcome the sweet calling of slumber and faint giggles of a dwarven prince could be heard within its walls, sweet moans and rough grunts surround the chambers of the royal couple together with words of pure love, promise, and adoration.
“Let me love and worship you, not just today but until forever, like the goddess that you are.”

Unlimited Together, we're unlimited Together, we'll be the greatest team there's ever been, Glinda - Dreams, the way we planned 'em If we work in tandem There's no fight we cannot win
Just you and I defying gravity With you and I defying gravity They'll never bring us down...
                                                            CHAPTER ONE
"Glinda, come with me. Think of what we could do! Together…"
Time dragged to a standstill as poor, bewildered Glinda-née-Galinda Upland stood somewhere she definitely shouldn't be, riddled with indecision. Never had Elphaba Thropp looked at her with such intensity, such desperation in her eyes. No one in all the land of Oz had! Not Fiyero, nor any other classmate, nor Elphaba herself before today. Even during those classes at the university in which she had spoken so passionately about the mistreatment of sentient Animals, she had not seemed so… fervential? Was that a word?
And here she was, hoping to enlist her help in this cause. Was she out of her tiny verdant mind?!
"Elphaba… I…" Her throat worked to swallow as she glanced between the barricaded attic door and the brilliantly green hand clutching the broom handle. Wind seemed to come from nowhere, swirling around them and blowing the long strands of raven-black hair around her strong jawline. Now she had to turn her eyes away from those of her roommate, which she could no longer meet; too much intensity that made her stomach feel strange. Then again, Elphaba's intensity had always done that to pretty much everyone she met.
"Well?" the newly-awakened wizardess demanded of her. "Are you coming?"
What a crazy notion! How brazen, how reckless! She couldn't simply uproot and follow on Elphaba's heels. How could she? Her entire life was at Shiz University; her classes, hopes for a brilliant future in sorcery. Following that, a modern, Ozmopolitan life, and the prospect of becoming more than just another tittering debutante, beholden to her family name. Friends, admirers…
Fiyero…
"Elphie, you're trembling." Was she coming? Casting around for some kind of distraction, she found a large black cloak discarded upon the floor. At least it matched her hat. "Here, put this around you…"
As Glinda fastened it around her friend's bony shoulders, heart aching from the prospect of losing one of her dearest companions in such a ridiculous way as this, she decided: no, she could not go with her. Of course, she had great respect for the sentient Animals of Oz — the deposed Dr. Dillamond especially. They were every bit as important as the human persons that she attended Shiz with. Why shouldn't they be? They could walk, and talk, and exchange ideas the same as anyone else.
At least, they could. A recent shift in tense from present to past. Catching and caging them was a deplorable idea, and she had been equally sickened by that class in which they were forced to look at the Lion in its prison, presented as a spectacle instead of a person. The Wizard and Madame Morrible should be ashamed!
But Elphaba truly was taking things too far. Some things simply defied her understanding. All of this fuss, over sticking a few pairs of wings on a few monkeys?! Her unsociable roommate could be mistaken, after all; perhaps the Wizard had simply flipped to the wrong page in the Grimmerie before handing it to her. It needn't be his fault, not necessarily. Didn't the great leader of their entire Land of Oz get any benefit of a doubt? And what was so awful about monkeys having wings? Wouldn't that only improve their lives? She herself wouldn't mind having a set, being able to soar above the clouds…
"GLINDA!"
Rousing herself from her introspection, she took a step forward. Perhaps she had taken too long to contemplate; they didn't have the luxury of time on their side. In the end, of course, it was mostly the thought of the lean, masculine Fiyero and his easy charm that prompted her to tell Elphaba what she must tell her. But she needn't be harsh about it; she could break the news to her gently, with the warmth of their friendship and a wish for her future. She deserved that much.
"Oh, Elphie…" A hand laid on the one holding the broom, causing Elphaba to blink at her in surprise. "I hope-"
There came more pounding at the door. Elphaba's emerald eyes flicked toward it, then back to her in a wild panic as a gruff voice on the other side barked, "Break it down! For His Ozness!"
Cursing under her breath, the black-clad girl straddled the broom, the Wizard's spellbook still tucked under her arm as she bade her, "Get on! There isn't time — we can discuss this later!"
"Wh-what?! We can't, surely they wouldn't truly-"
Her words were eclipsed by the sound of wood splintering. Apparently, they surely, truly would.
"Galinda, it's do or die! Get on this broom now!"
Do or die. They wouldn't use deadly force… would they?
The attic door suggested otherwise.
Before she knew what was happening, Glinda was on the back of a broom, arms looped around Elphaba's waist. They were already rising into the air before her mind caught up with her body, and she squeaked, "Wait!"
In vain. The guards were nearly within arm's reach of them when Elphaba rose above their heads, cackling madly at the feeling. Glinda was too terrified to share in her joy at the sensation of flight, but in the back of her mind, she knew it was one of the most exhilarating experiences she'd ever had in her lifetime. With an effort of will, they were shooting toward a large stained glass window on the Western wall.
"ELPHIE, LOOK OUT!"
But she needn't have bothered shouting; making things explode was something at which her green-hued classmate had always excelled, even before classes helped her hone the magic within her. Amid a shower of breaking glass, the two exited the Royal Palace.
Soon, the Emerald City was laid out below them, sparkling and majestic. Glinda caught her breath. Every street and every spire reflected the sunlight, dazzling her eyes as they hung in midair. Had any of her fellow Ozians ever seen this? Had they been so lucky?
"I don't know where to go now," Elphaba confessed, frantic voice intruding on Glinda's reverie. "Back to Shiz? Do we… should we get Nessa, or Fiyer-"
"NO!" When Elphaba twisted around to look at her, strong, severe features mildly surprised underneath the brim of the large black hat, Glinda shrank back from the stare as she added, "We… don't have the right to drag them into our sensationifical mistake! This is something we've done, we…" Her face went completely ashen. "We're criminals. You are, and I'm your accomplice, and…"
Setting her proud jaw, Elphaba turned back around and gazed down at the ground, at the guards amassing in the streets, though they had no hope of catching the two women suspended at such a height. Eventually, her eyes slid closed in shame. This was a deeper look of pain than she had ever seen in her roommate's forestful features, which looked yet greener due to the twinkling emeralds that lit up the cityscape below. But she did not speak on that matter.
Elphie looks so phosphorescent in the sunlight, she suddenly noticed. Though that thought seemed to come from nowhere.
"We'll go to my home, to my father. They won't think to look there right away, and then…"
"And then?"
"And then… I don't know."
Glinda swallowed hard as she tightened her hold on Elphaba, the vertigo finally catching up to her adrenaline-soaked brain. "Th-then maybe we'll drop in on my family? Or… well, we'll just have to think about that later, I suppose. But yes, let's go see your father, and hope that he doesn't… turn us away."
"I'll head West first," Elphaba said, even as the broom tilted in that direction. "To confuse them, and then North until we're past Shiz, and then back East to Munchkinland. Might save us having any unpleasant surprise visits, at least for a while."
"A better plan than I had, which was 'say you're sorry'. Don't think that would work now."
"Probably not, but… oh, let's just be rid of this place!"
And without another word, Elphaba shot off toward the lowering sun, gliding over the tall skyscrapers, the gorgeous palaces and museums. Ones Glinda was terrified she would never see again.

                                                            ~ o ~
Only once they had made good their escape and circled the Emerald City and its environs by a wide berth did either of them speak. It was Elphaba, turning in her seat to make herself more easily heard. Her voice was hoarse from the earlier shouting, and perhaps with grief, but Glinda didn't want to assume anything.
"Before we left, you were going to say something."
"What?" Glinda whispered, then cleared her throat and repeated it louder, so as to be heard over the sounds of rushing wind. "What?"
"You… were going to tell me you didn't want to come."
Her heart seized. "Oh. Well… please, Elphaba, try to understand… it's not that I-"
"No, no. You had every right not to… follow me on this dangerous crusade. I'd think you a coward, but not a fool; I'm the fool." Her body became more and more tense, which was impossible for Glinda not to notice due to their close proximity. "The Wizard, Madame Morrible, and the entirety of the Ozian military… they're all intent on the suppression of Animal rights, and here I am, thinking any good and decent citizen of Oz should want to band together to stop it! They should, if they have a damn conscience, but they…"
Some time went by with the wind whipping at their faces before Glinda prompted in a soft voice, "They?"
"They have something to lose. I do not. I'm just a hideous green bean with a weird trick or two up my sleeve — unlike them, who all have family and reputations to protect."
"Hmm… that is true." Wincing at how that had come across, Glinda hastily added, "About them, not you, obviously! Because you do have a family, right? And… and a couple of friends, at least. And you're not hideous, just perhaps… deciduous!"
The hands tightened on the broom as she growled, "Why was I put in this position? All I've ever wanted was to… work with the Wizard, ask him to guide me, and maybe…" Her voice had grown more and more embarrassed, and she finally fell silent again. "Nevermind. I'm just a romantic idiot. And he's just a charlatan. Maybe we really were made for each other from the beginning. A couple of bumble-brains."
In all of those words, Glinda heard something unsaid, as she was so used to searching for when her roommate spoke. An apology. The antisocial thing had been so opposed to interaction in the first place, and only through steady insistence from her — and from Elphie's sister, Nessarose — did she begin to blossom from her tightly-clenched bud. Of course, she still preferred isolation and study, but at least they had begun to get her to attend various social activities, to travel all the way to Emerald City, even if only for one short day. There had to be some room left for understanding her idiosyncrasies.
"Aww, Elphie…" How could she word this? "It isn't that I didn't want to come with you, alright? I admire your stance, your zeal! You've got a moxieness when it comes to Animals, and I think you have a chance to do some real good in this world! Or did have, anyway… I just… your cause is not my cause, you know? So it wasn't about you, it was… a difference in interests! Does that make sense?"
After a moment to mull that over, she more felt than heard Elphaba sigh. "It does. I'm… you're right, and I should have waited to listen to you instead of pushing you to join me."
"Too late now," she muttered.
"It is."
"Oh, no, I- that isn't how I meant- I don't blame-"
"You should; you have every right. I let my fury at how the Wizard tricked me make me forget that you were there, and that you were with me. That my actions would reflect badly on you, as well. That was selfish." Another sigh, louder, more stunned. "Wow… I've completely ruined your life."
"What?! Come on, Elphie, don't be so dramatical. Nothing's 'ruined', we just have to… okay, I don't know exactly what we 'have to', but there's a thing we have to do to make this right, and we'll figure out what it is! Together!"
"But you shouldn't…" Shaking her head back and forth, she admitted, "Guess it doesn't matter anymore. Let's just figure out where we're going and what we're doing right now, and the rest of it later."
Nodding, Glinda pressed her face into Elphaba's back. Her warmth was becoming more and more necessary, with the chill wind pulling her own body heat away. That was odd; given how cold and standoffish the woman had been during their year at the university, she would never have guessed she had any heat at all. Like the reptiles she resembled with that green skin and those sharp features. A pleasant surprise, especially in such a time of need.
And that's how things will be for a while, she admitted to herself as their speed increased, skimming them over treetops. Until we get this all straightened out, we're going to need to stick together, whether we like it or not. Just hope we don't end up hating each other before it's all said and done. Not two best friends like us. Wouldn't that be an awfully tragic tragedy?

The 2019 Mirror80 Gift Guide:
Welcome to the 2019 Mirror80 Gift Guide! Let me start by saying that I truly believe the Holiday Season is about much, much more than shopping. This post is not an attempt to get you to jump into a pool of consumerism. For me, the annual gift guide is a chance to take a look at some of the amazing ways that 1980s style is alive and well in both authentically retro and entirely new items. The brands, makers and shops that follow are worth checking out, for holiday shopping or anytime shopping!!
Organized by aesthetic, the finds below reflect a range of price points. If you can’t spend $300 on a vase, rest assured there’s something in your budget if you keep scrolling. I wish you and yours a meaningful holiday and a glorious New Year. Thanks for reading!
Bold, Bright and Geo
Bold geometry has made a HUGE comeback in recent years. New Memphis design is an homage to the Memphis-Milano movement of the 1980s, and the return of bright color combos and interesting forms has gone mainstream. Plus, a whole new range of makers and discerning designers have put their stamp on this timeless look, so this section of today’s post is by far the longest. Let’s get started!!
Amy Rosalyn’s handmade resin earrings are wonderfully light, yet they’re striking and substantial. They will transform any outfit into a work of art, especially if you’re into color blocking. Above we see a pair in red and white. Check out the entire selection here. Featured below: a radiant pair of Red on Red Earrings. I’ve got my eye on a few more pair…
Gold-plated stainless steel and enamel beautifully blend in Matter Matters’ Phase Necklace. Choose from 2 sizes. The minis are shown below, including the Mini Eclipse Necklace in black:
While the photo at the top of this section already gave you a peek at the Half Moon Clutch in Black (also from Matter Matters), below we see the Half Moon Clutch in Purple Blue, as well as the mini size. Guaranteed to be the focal point of any outfit:
I’m a big fan of Etsy shop Sophistique Studio, as they take the time to beautifully curate authentic ’80s items. If you’re shopping for a collector, pieces like this Memphis-style fixture/sconce are hard to pass up:
Cool Machine’s Two Parts Plant Pot can be used as a planter or a totem. Color and form are celebrated in this unique, functional item that makes the perfect gift for design lovers. Catalan sandstone is the material of choice:
Areaware’s Eraser Pencil Stands make great stocking stuffers. Use them to display pencils, or use them to build a totem!
Poketo’s Monthly Planners bring the grid to your workspace, along with a hefty dose of color. For as low as $8, you can get the version in red, but I’m pretty smitten with the blue.
Speaking of blue, anyone need a water bottle? For the record, I don’t need one. But I really want this water bottle, a collaboration between Corkcicle and Poketo:
’80s Style
If you enjoy hunting down a good retro find, this section is for you!! Between actual vintage items and reissues (like the Caboodle from Urban Outfitters pictured above–now find it here), there is a LOT you can uncover. Let’s start with a good pair of ’80s ankle boots. I snagged the pair above from Etsy shop Digger O’dell Vintage. They’d never been worn, there was one pair left (and in my size), and they looked super flattering and comfortable. And that they are! It was meant to be.
A lot of ankle boots from the 1980s are not the high-heeled variety, making them easy to wear. So if you know someone who loves ’80s fashion and you know their shoe size, it may be worth surprising them with a pair! Below we see NOS (new old stock) white leather ’80s ankle boots from Etsy shop Of Corsets. Love the geometric cutouts:
This Bang & Olufsen phone from Etsy shop Sophistique Studio is nothing short of fabulous. It’s the Beocom 2000, designed in 1986 by Danish designers Lone and Gideon Lindinger-Loewy. I’m totally smitten with this teal-ish, turquoise blue phone, but if you’re interested in other colors, browse the shop’s entire collection of Bang & Olufsen phones here. And stay tuned for a collaborative post from Sophistique Studio and Mirror80 early in the new year. Because Bang & Olufsen phones deserve the spotlight, don’t you think?
Lit Home Collection‘s Neon “Girl” Light is a throwback to Pop Art greatness. We all need a bright spot in our lives this winter!! And at $35, this beauty is affordable too:
Neon cactus, anyone? Patrick Dempsey had something similar in his Can’t Buy Me Love bedroom. This one‘s only $24. Thank you, Urban Outfitters.
If you collected plastic ’80s charms, this next find will mean something to you. These Vintage Sporty Spice Earrings from Lazer Kitten are made by Marisa Ravel from an ’80s authentic vintage dead-stock charm necklace:
Something Sparkly
Let’s wrap up the gift guide with a little sparkle, shall we?! The only thing that gives me consolation once Christmas has come and gone (and I’m faced with the depressing task of taking down holiday decorations) is the shimmering promise of the new year! The dreariness of winter is no match for the sparkle that can live well beyond the holiday season. The iridescent and metallic fringe garland in the photo above is from Meri Meri. It makes me so happy! And I’ll be sipping champagne out of  CB2’s Eve Coupe Glasses (shown above and below) well beyond January.
Did someone say “sparkle”? Nothing sparkles like an ’80s rhinestone necklace. This one comes from Etsy shop Oh Cheree Cheree.
If you’re looking for a mirrored cube, your search is over. While Urban Outfitters’ Mirrored Cube Side Table may be a large purchase for someone who’s not your nearest and dearest, it never hurts to treat yourself to a big dash of ’80s style this holiday:
These Mini Disco Canape Plates from Bash Party Goods make the perfect stocking stuffer for those who love a little bit of sparkle…and who love to entertain!
Scrunchies are back…haven’t you heard?! Cotton:On offers a huge variety of colors. I’m partial to the silver sparkle variety!
That’s a wrap, folks! Happy Holidays to you and yours. I have one more fun post planned for 2019, and then we’re off to a new decade. Not sure how I feel about that yet, but there’s plenty of time to talk about it in 2020! Cheers and thanks for reading!!
