Ambassador Maurice Darrow Bean (September 9, 1928 – November 30, 2009) was a career diplomat nominated by President Jimmy Carter to serve as Ambassador to Burma. He was born in Gary. His father Everett worked as a laborer for the U.S. Steel Corporation; his mother Vera was a housewife.
He graduated from Howard University with a BA in government. His career in the US Foreign Service began when he was assigned to work with the Economic Cooperation Administration in Indonesia. He served in Djakarta, the nation’s capital, as a clerk, assistant program officer, and program analyst for the ECA.
He continued his training, graduating from Haverford College with an MA in social and technical assistance. He received a postgraduate certificate in Advanced International Studies from Johns Hopkins University.
He joined the newly formed Peace Corps and worked in Manila. He served first as the Corps Operations Officer (1961-63), Deputy Regional Director (1963-64), and finally Operations Director (1964-66).
He rejoined the State Department as a director within the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs for Malaysia and Singapore. His mission ended in 1970, the year he came back stateside to participate in the nine-month senior seminar in foreign policy.
He was assigned as Consul in Ibadan, Nigeria, serving there until 1973. From 1973 to 1976 he was Deputy Chief of Mission and Senior Foreign Service Inspector in Monrovia. While stationed in Ibadan, he married Dolores J. Winston (1972).
He became the first African American ambassador to serve in Southeast Asia. He worked with Burmese President Ne Win, and with leaders in neighboring countries, such as Thailand’s Kriangsak Chamanan, to contain drug trafficking and stop the cultivation of cocaine and heroin.
He served as Diplomat-in-Residence at Case Western Reserve University. He was an adviser to the Commander of Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base.
He retired from public service in 1986 in Pasadena, shortly after the death of his wife Delores. He was survived by his only son, Everett Thomas Bean. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #omegapsiphi

A post from @gulducock git me into the mood to post these old fellas, but anyway here's my original crew (later some characters get swaped out) for the Uss Clairvoyant, an Intrepid class starship.
Captain: Haru Everett. Comes from a species I made up called the Lamen. They have a lot of fantasy type powers, but the most common ones are telekinesis and telepathy. Haru has telekinesis. She was sponsored to the academy as the Lamen Empire is not a part of the Federation. Other interesting facts about her are; 1) Her green eye is an artificial eye, needed after a shuttle accident from when she was a lieutenant. 2) Her daughter was assigned to her ship, and there was a lot of paperwork involved because if was an accident. 3) She divorced her husband shortly before she became captain.
First Officer: Commander T'Leah (the drawing gives her a last name, but thats b/c I forgot that vulcans usually only have one name lmao) Went to the academy with Captain Everett, and was in the same accident as her. Though they have known each other for years, they aren't particularly close and just coincidencentally keep getting assigned to the same ships.
Chief Engineer: Lt. Commander Eca Kell, a human with cybernetic enhancements to his brain and left eye. He's a solitary man, and can be quite gruff at times. Many people make jokes that his only friend is the Starship. He is married, but no one on the crew has met his spouse.
Chief Medical Officer: Doctor Jamie Smoke. A rather young but stern doctor. Seems to be friendly with Lt. Cmdr. Kell. Serves with her sister, but that was deemed a non issue with Starfleet as she had disowned her sister years before they were assigned together for attacking a classmate at the academy. She's als friendly with the first officer.
Chief of Security: Arlandria Smoke, a smart girl who coasted through the academy until her 3rd year. After being surpassed by a classmate, she attacked her and was almost expelled. She was suspended from the academy for a year amd had to take many classes on emotional control as well as redo her third year credits. Since that incident she has had no other marks on her record, though she is monitored closely by her superiors.
Ensign Erica Everett. The captain's daughter, fresh out of the academy. Nobody knows how she got the scars on her face, as she refuses to talk about it. She is also a Lamen, and inherited her mother's telekinesis powers, as well as being a telepath. She also has a rare power that allows her to become invisible when scared. She's eager and ready to prove herself, and is hoping for a command of her own one day.
The initial story of the Uss isn't terribly happy, as the whole crew, with the exception of Erica was assimilated by the Borg and the ship was left for scrap after being pillaged by the Borg. And that's about as far as I got before v2 came around.

Version 2 of the Starship Clairvoyant. Most of the original crew made it into v2, with the exception of Eca and Jamie. I also added several crew members, so Im gonna add only them to this part of the post, as the description of everyone else remains the same. With the Exception of Erica, who got a promotion and became a helmsman, and Arlandria who is a Bajoran instead of a human.
Starting with our replacement characters:
Chief Medical Officer: Dr. Musa Muse: A rather excitable doctor, very interested in using the most modern of procedures and ever pushing for improvements. She doesn't let her drive impact her morals though, and always respects a patients wishes, and the boundaries of the Starfleet medical code. She has a sister who is an artist on Earth.
Chief Engineer: Alyssa Zerte: A young but brilliant engineer. Takes a lot of inspiration from the jury rigged repairs O'Brien made on DS9, but is a genius in her own right. Has a very strong bond with her ship, and a firm command of her engineers. Has a strong bond with her mother, who is a ship designer at the Utopia Planetia shipyard.
And onto our new crew:
Science Officer: James Carr. A newly joined trill, the first host for her symbiote. This has caused tension with her older sister Annika, who was booted from the joining program. They haven't spoken outside of professional obligations in 5 years. Dating a civilian consultant aboard the Clairvoyant, Gideon.
Biomedical Specialist Dr. Annika: An unjoined Trill who went into medical specialization after being removed from the joining program. Known specifically for her work in helping former borg recover. Resents her younger sister James for being selected for joining, and being a first host at that.
Civilian Consultant: Gideon (formerly 2 of 8) Rescued from a destroyed Borg shuttle pod,her connection to the collective had been severed in the crash. Was helped immensely by Dr. Annika, and is now consulting on Borg attack patterns and tactics with Captain Everett. Dating Dr. Annika's sister, James.
