The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) report says: "Eastern Vidarbha has a total forest cover of 22, 508 square kilometres, which is roughly 35 per cent of the total geographical area, with a population of about 200 tigers or more, both inside and outside Pas [protected areas].” This area is dissected by 45,790 kilometres of roads (as on March 2016) with consists of national highways, state highways, district roads and village roads, the report says. The fragmentation caused by roads has created 517 small new forest patches which are less than one square kilometre and cover a total area of 246.38 square kilometres. “More than human beings, development projects have snapped the natural tiger corridors and dispersal routes in Vidarbha,” says Bandu Dhotre, a conservation activist who runs an NGO called Eco-Pro in Chandrapur.

The Marathi language's literary tradition is long. Eastern Hindi is closely related to Marathi and is also an Indo-Aryan language. In Marathi, the literary works of the saint and poet Dnyaneshwar are very popular in the Marathi language. Eknath, Tukaram, and Namdev were famous saint-poets, who played a decisive role in the enrichment of Marathi from the grassroots level. Thus it is said that Marathi has the richest holy literature in Indian. The first copper inscription, found in the city of Satara, part of the Maharashtra State, was written by Marathi in 739 AD. William Carey published his first Marathi grammar in 1805 using the Balbodh script because it was then impossible to print in the Modi script. The Modi script was published in the later editions of his book. During the Bombay Presidency in July 1917, Balbodh was the main administrative script. However, until the 1940s, the Modi script was still being used and taught at school. Since then Balbodh has been the main Marathi script, although the Modi script is revived.

Standard Marathi is based on academics' and print media-used dialects. Indicators differentiate 42 Marathi dialects. Dialects bordering other major linguistic areas have many common characteristics, which further distinguish them from standard spoken Marathi. The main part of the variation is lexical and phonological in these dialects. While there are a considerable number of dialects, the level of intelligibility of these dialects is relatively high.

Varhadi In the western Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, Varhadi (Varhadi) or Vaidarbhi is spoken. The retroflex side approximant dialect in Marathi is common, but it corresponds with the palatal approximant in the Varhadi dialect, making this dialect very distinct. These phonetic variations are frequent in Marathi and, as a result, the dialects spoken vary between regions of Maharashtra.

Zadi Boli Zadi Boli or Zhadiboli is spoken by Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and parts of Nagpur, Maharashtra in Zadipranta (forest-rich region) in the Far East, Maharashtra and the East, Vidarbara or Western Central Gondwana. A 37-page report, Forest fragments in eastern Vidarbha Landscape, Maharashtra – The Tig-Saw puzzle, was released in July 2018. It finds that there are only six patches of forests – each more than 500 square kilometres – in the entire region that could be said to be ideal habitats for the tigers. Of them, four such contiguous belts are in Gadchiroli, a district long torn by conflict, which does not have tiger population. A significant majority of the other forest patches are tiny – less than 5 square kilometres, and aren’t considered tiger habitats. The Central Indian Landscape (CIL) and Eastern Ghats have been identified as a global priority landscape for tiger conservation, the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) report says. These areas support about 18 per cent of the global tiger population. According to the 2016 global data, there are 3,900 tigers left in the wild (and an unknown number in captivity).  The central Indian tiger population suffers from the highly fragmented corridors and loss of habitat to agriculture, the report stresses.

IMD releases fresh weather update, monsoon to reach Delhi around 10 July. Full forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday released fresh weather updating predicting advancement of monsoon over remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi around 10th July.

"Ely winds from BoB would establish over parts of East India from 8th. It would spread into NW India covering Punjab and north Haryana by 10th. Thus, SW monsoon likely to advance over remaining parts of West UP, some more parts of Punjab, Haryana,Rajasthan and Delhi around 10th," it said.

Under the influence of these conditions, scattered to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls are expected over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh from 8th July onwards. And isolated very heavy rainfall is also very likely over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on 8th July.

According to the department, scattered to widespread rainfall is very likely over Northwest India from 9th July onwards and isolated heavy rainfall also very likely over Uttarakhand from 8th; over Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh from 9th; over East Rajasthan from 10 July onwards.

Due to strengthening of southwest monsoon over Arabian Sea, enhanced rainfall activity is likely along the west coast from 9th July onwards.

Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is very likely over Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe from 9th July onwards.

Due to revival of southwest monsoon from 8th July, rainfall intensity and distribution is very likely to decrease over Northeast India (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura) from 9th July onwards.

On Monday, the IMD said the southwest monsoon was likely to revive gradually over south peninsula including West coast and adjoining eastcentral India from 8th July.

It said a low pressure area was likely to form over west central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts around 11th July.

The moist easterly winds in lower level from Bay of Bengal is likely to establish gradually over parts of eastern India from 8th July onwards. It is likely to spread into northwest India covering Punjab and north Haryana by 10th July.

Accordingly, southwest monsoon likely to advance over remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh,

some more parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and Delhi around 10th July.
