Libraries with herbs growing up the walls and fruit trees blooming inside and mint plants you can pick and chew in while reading a book. A section with a butterfly garden you could read in!!

'Vallecitos' is a luxury earthship house built in 2018 in Taos, NM. It's been featured on Netflix, international TV and social media, among the pages of Forbes and AirBnB magazine, and many others, yet it's been on the market for almost 2 yrs. 2bds, 2ba, asking $825K + $20mo. HOA fee. Let's take a look inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, the typically long earthship garden that is usually inside the house, is separate here, and like a greenhouse decorated with bottles in the pretty turquoise walls.
Tumblr media
Food grows out here- I see lettuce, aloe vera.
Tumblr media
And, look at this- bananas. Or are they plantains?
Tumblr media
I must say that the living room is nice, but the dining area is a little tight.
Tumblr media
We've seen some pretty primitive earthships before, but this actually looks like a home with beamed ceilings and quality glass doors and windows.
Tumblr media
A real kitchen and it's very pretty. Love the turquoise cabinets.
Tumblr media
It even has a pantry and laundry room.
Tumblr media
Very nice bath and what looks like a real flushing toilet, not a composter.
Tumblr media
Beautiful tile sink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The secondary bedroom is lovely. It looks like a child's room and has plenty storage for toys, games and books. A desk faces the garden window.
Tumblr media
As we can see, the garden runs the whole length of the large "ship."
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom is nice.
Tumblr media
It opens to the garden area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty en-suite. I would need something on that window, though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Out on the patio they have a sauna.
Tumblr media
Patio looking out over the 2.31 acre lot.
Tumblr media
View of the back of th house with the sauna and patio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Partial privacy wall around a deck.
Tumblr media
Aerial view of the property shows grass and vegetation, but it's quite vast and empty.
Tumblr media
Glamor shot of it at night.

A glimpse of some earthships

Have you heard the term “Earthship”?
We just finished writing an interesting deepdive into these one-of-a-kind #offgrid homes. Learn what they are, how to buy one or build your own. We have full video documentary’s, TED talks, tiny #earthship home videos, news articles and even an Earthship Academy.

It’s always cool to see documentaries about the type of house that you yourself live in.
It’s not for everyone but I wouldn’t change anything about it.....except all the shit I’ve got planned to change in the near future, but we’ll ignore that. 🤣

Sustainable Travel in Taos
Take an Earthship tour in Taos, New Mexico: See sustainable homes built with bales of straw, old tires, bottles, and cans. An earth ship is an off-the-grid and self-sufficient home that is made from primarily natural and recycled materials like earth-rammed tires, cans, and bottles. The town of Taos, New Mexico has fewer than 7,000, is a UNESCO heritage site known for its culturally significant…

Just outside of Taos, NM lies a community of “Earthships” or homes built off the grid with recycled materials including dirt, car/truck tires, glass bottles. They recycle their water and their waste, generate their own heat and even grow plants for food inside. Pretty cool!

I do love having convos like this actually!!
Really quick I do wanna hop in and just mention from this site the tire "problem" is still being researched. As of the moment within the earthship walls they don't seem to degrade (although the oldest one is merely 40ish years old so they don't know quite yet) due to the ramming process (in which the tires are filled with dirt/clay unusable elsewhere and then heavily compacted) and then the stucco or cob plaster used in the walls seems so far to prevent such demanding and degrading of tires there are alternatives presented in that site as well as many studies about how tires degrade.
Also, no one said they had to be solo housing. Currently again due to their legality and their testing phase we are still in with these structures there aren't currently examples of apartment or multiplex dwellings but like.. you can apply the same concepts and designs to denser housing. And it surely wouldn't be a solarpunk society without public transit and accessibility to be accounted for. Ice always imagined neighborhoodsof earthships with wide stone paths and trollys running up and down them.
There are also a handful of examples of them working up here in Canada, even heating very well during winter! That's why I adore them tbh. The idea of having a green house inside while it's-40c outside sure is appealing. A combo of geothermal heat wells, using an external shell to heat up a smaller area, and buring the structures into the ground allows for the ground to cool or heat the area. I think the idea of connected units using the Greenspace and water ways as the public overlap would be a wonderful way to provide places like Canada some greenery during our cold days as well as year round food supply. I know my grandparents actually used to live in an apartment complex with courtyard inside the center of the building that had a pond with a small water wheel, a sunroof, and many many plants all over the place as well as a piano. No reason not to upscale the concept!
It's also not featured in the photos above but! The way they collect water is also pretty neat, i wish i could find a graphic of how it looks bc the designs of the exaination are simplistic.

here's a link of a full tour of the Phoenix (40min) where they actually show it off and explain its process of making one and the legal battles they encountered to be allowed to even build the concept of the first earthship village
I feel like yall don't know bout earthships??
An earthship is a building that's built out of recycled materials (glass bottles, old tires, cans, etc..) and mostly Cob walls with solarpanels, wind turbines, greenhouses, and large water capture system to ensure all you need within the walls. All these components help regulate the temp for both plants and you creating a proper oasis from all of itnall
Here's a good dissection of one to give you an idea
Tumblr media
The most famous one, and one of the first ones ever made back in the 1970s by a small off grid group working together is The Phoenix which was built as the model for how cool these guys could be its now a place you can take tours or rent-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But now there is so many different styles and cool ideas for it! Now some of these are merely concepts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But you can adapt them to any weather for your particular light/weather/energy conditions.
The main thing about Earthships is typically they are illegal to build as the US government considers them waste sites due to the materials their built out of.

DRAGONS RISING SPOILERS FOR EP 16
-
-
-
In this House we don’t say “I love you” we say:
“I was too afraid you would leave if you realized you didn’t need me”
“But I do need you […] Without you I wouldn’t have been able to realize my true potential”
And I think that is beautiful.

Anyways, I finally got around to watching ninjago: dragons rising if you couldn’t tell.
But anyways.
I’m obsessed with the fact that Cole, the ninja who as a ghost was forgotten by all of his friends, the ninja who didn’t get a season centred around him until the 13th season, the ninja who has died almost the most of all the ninja second only to Zane the nindroid, the ninja who has next to no toys about him, the ninja whose ability to do the spinjitzu burst (a thing only elemental masters of earth can do) also was given to Lloyd and Kai when making toys for season 13, the ninja least focussed on by the show
ENDS UP IN THE LAND OF LOST THINGS???? THE PLACE WHERE THE WAY THERE IS TO BE FORGOTTEN BY EVERYONE???????
And I know he didn’t end up there the traditional way. But still
Also obsessed with geo <3
