Ear protection!! It's so important for a lot of autistics. Mainly for us. We need ear protection 24/7 but at times we don't think we need them, and we regret it after.. We get overstimulated quickly. But the mornings are so hectic we forget our ear protection, whether it's our headphones or earplugs, and it was bad. This is your reminder. Ear protection protects us. It protects you. It helps us. It helps you. Wear your ear protection. ☂️ - Allison

Learning I can just put in earplugs when I'm overwhelmed had enhanced my ability to go out and do fun things. Like I just pop them in and suddenly the world isn't so bad and I can have fun again.

ok serious request for advice, please!!! i have struggled with noise sensitivity for most of my life but the last year or so it seems to be getting even worse. ANY suggestions for practical or coping strategies to help me deal with this would be IMMENSELY appreciated.
more info: i live in a relatively quiet house and area but am still struggling every single day to cope with noise. the sounds of my family slamming doors and cabinets, moving around plates and utensils in the kitchen, and even the click of the mechanisms any time a door is opened in my house are SO incredibly loud to me that it is startling and physically painful every time. i am usually in my room with the door closed and fan on at all times and everything is STILL so loud. i have to sleep with earplugs in even though it hurts my ears because every sound wakes me up, and even with them in i can’t sleep if someone is using the washing machine or other devices in the house. i bought expensive noise-cancelling earphones which do help, but even with them on the noises are loud. more people are home right now for thanksgiving and i don’t know how i’m going to deal with it without melting down completely.
please please please, leave any suggestions or resources you can think of. options for soundproofing, comfortable ear plugs, best coping techniques, how to try to talk to my family about this kind of thing, anything at all.

went to a concert yesterday and tried using earplugs for the first time. unfortunately ended up taking them out because i care about blowing my brains out more than i care about my hearing.
anyway, here's what i learned:
- with earplugs i literally could not hear the crowd. the voices of the people on stage and the instruments were heard crystal clear. it took me a while to realize that the crowd was, in fact, going crazy
- if you are like me and enjoy hearing the crowd going crazy... it kinda takes away from the experience. if, however, you are the kind of person that would like to shut everyone up at every concert you go to just to hear the artists, it might just be your perfect fix.
i have to say, i'm still not enthusiastic about putting my hearing on the line for the sake of the experience (but you know, catharsis), so next time i will at least try some lower coverage earplugs and see if i can compromise. i hope so lmaoooo
