Wow, thank you for the ask! We have added you to our taglists! :D And we are soooo happy to ramble about Songs of Decay and Bards, Courts, and Changelings. This is Inkwell. I am gonna cover Songs of Decay, and Crooked Writer will cover BC&C in a part two post.

Be warned. This is a very long post. I had waay too much fun writing it, hahaha. Bards, Courts, and Changelings will be a much shorter post, as it is in an earlier stage of development.

Part One: Songs of Decay

A HISTORY OF THE PROJECT

This is definitely a 2020 project, hahaha. We wrote draft 1 in script format because it was an easy way to write intermittently. We pulled out board games like Arkham Horror (2nd Edition) and Betrayal at House on the Hill to help us add the eldritch elements and throw in some chaos. We tracked the insanity level of different characters through some of our scenes. Then, when we were done, we were so happy with the story that we wanted to DO something with it rather than it just being a hobby project… and we were like, "What if we actually turned it into an audio drama?"

Crooked Writer does voice acting, but neither of us had ANY experience with writing audio dramas. It was our lazy way of not converting to prose, but also trying something new!

We created draft 2 by having friends come read what we'd gotten done out loud. We would edit and write for two weeks, then gather online, divvy out parts for the night, and read through it. It gave us a lot of motivation to get through the draft! I personally am not the kind of person to sit in on someone's early writing project and read it out loud for an extended period of time on a consistent basis, and it still blows my mind that our friends wanted to do that with us. It was so much fun.

Now, a great deal of research and worldbuilding later, we have four seasons planned and are midway through writing draft 3 of season 1. :D

WORLDBUILDING

The story isn't straight cosmic horror, it's more flavored by the eldritch, and much more inspired by the board game Arkham Horror than Lovecraft. We have our own pantheon of Horrors who have different thematic elements and warp and corrupt in different ways. Technology is roughly equivalent to the 1910s, and eldritch Horrors have been threatening to end the world as we know it for centuries. We have four countries who approach the long-standing eldritch problem VERY differently:

Our setting country, Malgrave, has a "kill it with fire" approach. They have a specially trained corps of Stewards and an Eldritch Anomalies Department (the EAD) to handle things using mostly weaponry. Malgrave views eldritch corruption as an individual's choice to bring Horrors and Fiends (Horrors = world-ends-upon-arrival monsters, Fiends = smaller monsters) into the world and destroy/remake it, so laws tend to treat cults and such in a similar way to how you'd treat the mafia. The temptations are overpowering to many. You can't trust anyone completely.

Side note, because I love the Stewards: The Stewards have really fun political power dynamics, as they are supposed to keep the king's family from turning on him/protect the family, but also can't really contradict a royal, sooo it gets messy sometimes. They technically have the power to report or stop a royal that's corrupted, but just try doing that in practice and see how it goes. Stewards tend to be more subtle. They also die, a lot. The MC's father, Sam, is one of the few Stewards in living memory to retire from active duty. Pays well, though!

Eastcairn, Malgrave's other neighbor, uses augury - magical engineering - to create wards and automatons that are powered by protective patterns. These patterns slowly corrupt over time and must be maintained regularly, or they will amplify corruption rather than negate it. Eastcairn views corruption as a contagious miasma in the air and isolates eldritch outbreaks in sanatoria and asylums. There are many strains of corruptive virus, and most if not all are incurable by current science.

Logoria is Malgrave's neighbor to the left and uses patterns just like Eastcairn, but rather than using physical augury patterns they use mathematical patterns in music and dance to ward off corruption. They have trained singers and musicians and dancers, and choirs are common.

Not a ton of development on the fourth country, because it's farther away (only worldbuild the top of the iceberg, right?) but it has a protective martial art, a caste system based around the concept that corruption runs in family lines, and people there know what different kinds of corruptive influences/objects/presences smell like.

These varying perceptions pool together in our story, as Sam is from Eastcairn but worked in the Stewards in Malgrave and has a medley of views about the nature of eldritch corruption that often conflict with prevalent theories. Augury isn't well thought of in Malgrave, but both he and Tom practice it. The conflict of "eldritch corruption: illness or choice?" is central to the first two seasons of Songs of Decay (particularly the second).

CHARACTERS AND STORY (Season 1)

Tom moves into the very rural Malbury county because living too close to his far wealthier ex-wife will end with him losing custody of their daughter, Sara. His dad lives in Malbury county and is supposed to be living far away from all eldritch influence. However, Tom is appalled to see how rife the county is with cultists, corruption, and eldritch Fiends - such as the Moose that he and Sara run afoul of on the first day of school. Tom also has a past record that requires him to report to the EAD and means that the EAD could refuse to grant him an augury license, which is literally Tom's livelihood right now, SO Tom offers to help with local problems. In doing so, he trips into the plot of a local cult that centers on the estate of one Lady Esther Lambert, a widow with a grudge against the EAD. Esther married into one of the local noble families and is used to fighting for herself because no one else will. She throws an annual party at her house at the end of summer, but this time things go very poorly very quickly. Tom and Esther have to band together with other guests to stay alive and prevent the summoning of a greater Horror, but they don't know who to trust when you can't even rule yourself out as an enemy.

So, throughout Season 1 you've got Tom trying to be a good single parent, learning how to prep and cook three consistent meals a day while also getting drawn into fighting eldritch monsters and cultists. You have Sara, his daughter, who is trying to adjust to a lower class lifestyle, meeting a grandparent for the first time, and stressing about her dad putting himself in danger. You have Sam, who convinced his son to move to Belleview because he was worried about him, but also has so much corruption from his time in the Stewards that he is one poor decision away from snapping entirely. You have Chief Compton, a former city policeman and current head of the local EAD bullied into the role after the last chief died trying to contain an eldritch summoning. And you have Lady Esther, whose late husband's family literally built her house around the idea of summoning eldritch Horrors, and whose perception of the local EAD is so poor that she would rather fight off monsters with a shovel than call them in to help.

We are having a great time writing this story. :D The hope is to ultimately put it on YouTube, but we want to get the first two seasons ready before we get to that, as they contain the first major arc.

2020 faz quase 4 anos

O ano tá quase acabando, todo mundo começa a falar de coisas nostálgicas, coisas assim. E agora estou pensando tipo: 2020 faz quase 4 anos.

E pior que lembro de um punhado de coisas.

2020 foi o primeiro ano em que realmente vivi como trans, em janeiro percebi que meu nome era Yuri e costurei uma touca vermelha que minha vó havia feito para esconder meu cabelo (ela tinha uma abertura pra passar rabo de cavalo). Apesar de ter me descoberto em setembro/outubro de 2019, sequer tinha escolhido meu nome.

Naquela época eu acordava e logo de cara escutava Bang! do AJR (era recém-lançada em 2020, saudades) enquanto fazia meu lanche. Tinha entrado no sexto ano, e parti dali teria que sair da escola ás 12:50 (de início achei um cu, mas depois meio que tanto faz). Foi só, literalmente, um mês de aulas, depois tudo fechou.

Daí em diante meio que você consegue saber, né? COVID-19, EAD, uma loucura nos jornais. Eu mesmo comecei a ficar enjoado daquilo no meio de 2020, mas era um tempo bom: fazer calls com amigos ou conversar pelo Discord depois das aulas (ás vezes era até no meio dela, mas OK), ouvir música no Spotify enquanto fazia as lições de casa, rir de pessoas com microfone ligado, coisas assim.

O ruim daquela época é que minha autoestima era FUDIDA, eu tinha muita espinha aos 11 anos, era só me olhar no espelho logo depois de acordar que me deparava com alguma na testa, na bochecha e até mesmo no nariz. (Jesus Kid! Como aquilo me afetava, tinha vergonha até de abrir a câmera).

Mesmo assim, eu tinha meus vícios: assistia Goularte, Saiko, Ycro durante as minhas tardes, gostava de jogar Among Us (ah, quanto tempo não ouço esse nome...) e lembro que fazia playlists para ouvir nos momentos de tédio:

This is the evolution of my first ever OC, Cassius (a few of his iterations were so rarely drawn that I physically cannot find it)

So he was an adopt on deviantArt; a candy corn wolf. He then turned into a warrior cat (I don't know why the lighting is toxic green), (not pictured in his two different dog iterations, a Malamute and a Beauceron) then he finally turned into a human, and finally his current form.

If you've looked at the horse one a bit, there's Lecter (yes that's what he's named, I'm ashamed of it too. Blonde(Dunalino)) I think he's been here since 2013?? and Grove (Bay) whose been here since like pre 2010?? but I lost a lot of drawings of him...

Last, but not least. Azerius and Eksi, my mage/gryphon duo They're in the same universe as Cassius. But they were only fleshed out in ~2020.

EB-5 Remains the Fastest Path to US Permanent Residency for Chinese and Indian Nationals Following the October 2024 Visa Bulletin

The release of the October Visa Bulletin marks the beginning of the government’s fiscal year. Immigration practitioners anxiously await its publication as it sets the stage for the new year and what may be expected. The October 2024 Visa Bulletin was just recently released and has reaffirmed that the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program remains the fastest route to U.S. permanent residency for investors born in countries with significant visa backlogs, such as China and India.  

Visa Backlogs for China and India: A Continuing Challenge

For years, Chinese and Indian nationals have faced long wait times to obtain U.S. green cards due to high demand and the per-country visa caps. The employment-based visa categories, particularly the EB-2 and EB-3 categories, have been significantly backlogged for these countries.

The October 2024 Visa Bulletin continues to reflect these severe backlogs:

The final action cutoff date for EB-1 China will advance by one week, to November 8, 2022, and India will remain at February 1, 2022.

The final action cutoff date for EB-2 China will advance by three weeks, to March 22, 2020, and India will remain at July 15, 2012.

The final action cutoff date for EB-3 China will retrogress by five months, to April 1, 2020, and India will advance by one week, to November 1, 2012.  

The retrogression for China in the EB-3 category is quite unexpected as the new fiscal year is just beginning.  This signals a very challenging year ahead and individuals impacted by the retrogression may want to consider alternative, faster green card options, such as the EB-5 program.

The Strategic Advantages of EB-5 Regional Center Program

When Congress reauthorized the EB-5 Regional Center Program in March 2022, a portion of EB-5 visas was set aside specifically for investments in Targeted Employment Areas (TEAs), which include rural areas, high-unemployment areas, and infrastructure projects. Despite increasing demand, these set-aside categories will remain current under October 2024 Visa Bulletin.

For Chinese and Indian nationals, the EB-5 Regional Center Program presents clear strategic advantages:

No Employer Sponsorship Required: For individuals without a job offer or those waiting for their employer-sponsored EB-2 or EB-3 priority date to become current, the EB-5 program offers an independent pathway to a green card.

Fast Processing Times and No Backlogs: Even compared to other self-sponsored options, such as EB-1A or EB-2 NIW, the EB-5 program stands out as the fastest and most straightforward choice for Chinese and Indian nationals without backlog delays.

Concurrent Filing Option: Chinese and Indian nationals in the U.S. on a valid non-immigrant visa, such as F-1, H-1B, or L-1, can simultaneously file their EB-5 and adjustment of status applications. Currently, the EB-5 regional center program in the set-aside categories is the only employment-based visa category that allows concurrent filing for Chinese and Indian nationals. This allows investors to obtain a five-year work authorization card (EAD) and international travel permit (Advance Parole) while their green card application is pending. This option is particularly beneficial for foreign students, enabling them to bypass the H-1B lottery for work authorization. It also provides added security for individuals on employer-sponsored visas, such as H-1B or L-1, by ensuring continued work authorization, which adds considerable peace-of-mind in the event of job loss or to simplify changing employer.

Hera é a primeira missão de defesa planetária da ESA, rumo a um alvo único entre os 1,3 milhões de asteroides conhecidos do nosso Sistema Solar.

Se um asteroide que se aproximasse ameaçasse a Terra, o que as pessoas poderiam fazer a respeito? Em 26 de setembro de 2022, a missão DART da NASA realizou o primeiro teste de deflexão de asteroide da humanidade ao colidir com a lua pequena Dimorphos, do tamanho da Grande Pirâmide. O resultado foi uma mudança em sua órbita ao redor do asteroide principal Didymos, do tamanho de uma montanha. 

Agora vem a contribuição da ESA para esta colaboração internacional: a missão Hera revisitará Dimorphos para reunir dados vitais de perto sobre o corpo desviado, para transformar o experimento em grande escala do DART em uma técnica de defesa planetária bem compreendida e potencialmente repetível. 

A missão também realizará a exploração mais aprofundada até agora de um sistema binário de asteroides – embora os binários representem 15% de todos os asteroides conhecidos, não houve pesquisas detalhadas de nenhum exemplo.

A Hera também realizará experimentos de demonstração de tecnologia, incluindo a implantação do primeiro "CubeSats" da ESA no espaço profundo — uma nave espacial do tamanho de uma caixa de sapatos que se aventurará mais perto do que a missão principal e, eventualmente, pousará — e um teste ambicioso de "direção autônoma" para a nave espacial principal, com base na navegação baseada em visão.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION Per the specifications of the EAD standard 040016-00-0404 (which replaced ETAG 004 on October 28, 2020), the mesh is composed of glass fibers treated with a unique primer that renders it resistant to alkalis. Mapenet 150 strengthens the waterproofing layer after it has been installed to prevent fractures from forming as a result of substrate movement or tile movement. Additionally, it facilitates the application of a uniform coating of the selected product and strengthens the system's resistance to abrasion and temperature changes.

Evento promove concertos, festival, apresentação de trabalhos, mesas redondas, palestras e masterclasses gratuitos, de 28/11 a 02/12, e é uma ação do Projeto Bandas: Sistema Pedagógico de Apoio às Bandas de Música em conjunto com o Projeto Filarmônica UFBA Visita. Morar sozinho pela primeira vez

Quando eu me livrei de uma dívida de 6 meses e fiquei com boa parte da minha renda livre para focar em alguma outra coisa, a primeira coisa que eu quis fazer foi buscar um apartamento para eu morar. Eu sempre morei com os meus pais, mas foi justo em 2020 que eu tomei a decisão que eu iria encontrar um emprego e que iria me organizar financeiramente para me mudar até junho/julho daquele ano. Corta para a pandemia, eu fazendo faculdade por "EAD" e sem conseguir nem uma entrevista de emprego se quer. Mas a vontade e o pensamento de me mudar continuaram. Então no ano seguinte eu comecei a trabalhar como autônomo pelo IFOOD e também comecei a ter uma renda que eu nunca consegui ter antes.

Buscar um apartamento foi o mais fácil. Eu baixei e instalei um app de busca por imóveis e logo de cara achei um apartamento que parecia bonito e com um valor de aluguel bom e que eu conseguisse pagar. Mas foi eu dar mais dois toques e eu já estava falando com a imobiliária e quando eu vi eu já estava preenchendo um formulário para contratar o seguro-aluguel. Na outra semana eu já estava pedindo quase todas as coisas que eu iria precisar para o apartamento e me endividando, aos poucos e sem ver. Hoje eu vejo que o meu primeiro erro foi ter sido muito ansioso e ter ido com muita sede ao pote.

Eu fechei o contrato com a imobiliária e já estava com as chaves, porém ainda não haviam ligado a energia. Então nessa semana eu passei cada dia limpando um cômodo do apartamento. (Ele tinha acabado de passar por uma reforma de rescisão e deixaram o chão todo manchado com respingos de tinta branca, sem contar o banheiro que parecia que havia sido abandonado há uns 20 anos) Não era o apartamento dos sonhos, mas quando eu entrei pela primeira vez, depois de ter feito a mudança de verdade, mesmo ainda faltando móveis para completar a sala e montar o meu escritório, eu senti que estava em casa.

Quando eu me mudei, eu pensei: "Finalmente eu tenho um local!"

Eu me cadastrei no Grindr e passei umas duas semanas tentando encontrar alguém que parecesse "decente" (O meu último date por app tinha sido um desastre, então eu estava bem mais cauteloso), mas qualquer um que eu conversasse parecia que iria entrar na minha casa e roubar tudo (ou as poucas coisas) que eu tinha. Okay, o date não aconteceria tão cedo, mas eu ainda queria receber pessoas queridas na minha casa.

O meu sentimento de solidão começou neste momento. Eu tentei combinar um almoço de dias das mães em casa, mas ninguém da minha família se animou. Uma prima muito querida disse que iria me visitar "qualquer dia desses", mas eu não me sentia pronto para receber alguém ainda (auto sabotagem, talvez? rs). Então eu disse que iria preparar um poke para nós. Nos meus planos, eu iria comprar bowls de porcelanato, mas o tempo foi passando e passando e acabou que eu comprei os ingredientes para fazer os pokes, mas ainda não tinha comprado os bowls, então na minha cabeça eu ainda não estava pronto para receber ninguém. A minha expectativa nunca foi receber alguém diferente em casa por semana, mas eu queria receber pelo uma visita.

O sentimento de solidão foi crescendo porque naquele ano eu estava assumindo sozinho todas as responsabilidades de um ser adulto. As contas estavam apertadas. Eu não tinha amigos que eu pudesse ligar ou conversar. Eu estava tentando me manter mais afastado dos meus pais. Porém a coisa que mais me mantinha são era eu ter todo o espaço do apartamento para mim. Poder fazer as coisas na hora que eu decidisse, poder levantar de madrugada sem incomodar ninguém e mesmo com as contas apertadas, poder ir no mercado e decidir o que comprar com o meu próprio dinheiro era algo libertador. Mas em algum momento comecei a perder o controle das coisas.

Parecia que todas as decisões erradas pareciam certas e que no final alguém iria aparecer para limpar a bagunça. Ser adulto é assumir as responsabilidades pelas suas decisões, certas ou erradas. Ninguém apareceu para me aconselhar ou avisar que se eu continuasse assim, eu não daria conta. E eu não dei.

Eu sou privilegiado por ainda ter os meus pais vivos e em condições financeiras de me receberem de volta. Voltar para "casa" parecia a coisa certa a fazer, mas tudo estava tão fora do lugar que até no ultimo dia de mudança ainda passava pela a minha cabeça em desistir da mudança e continuar ali de algum jeito. Mas a mudança tinha que acontecer, de um jeito ou de outro.

Foram 1 ano e 3 meses morando sozinho e nesse tempo eu aprendi que precisamos ser auto suficientes se quisermos nos relacionar de forma saudável com as pessoas. Estar sozinho por este tempo fez eu valorizar a companhia de quem quisesse estar do meu lado. Fez eu perceber que estar sozinho não é estar solitário, mas que a solidão pode bater a porta de vez em quando.
