i wont lie the fact mephone didn't know the true extent of his powers before the finale is Actually Insane to me. That's gotta be a terrifying existential threat in its own right holy FUCK. Imagine waking up one day and in THE SPAN OF THAT SINGLE DAY learning that you CREATED everyone you've ever loved (barring some exceptions) and your own life is a hell YOU made. Literally everything ever can be blamed on you because suddenly YOU are the root cause of everything wrong with everyone. IN THE SPAN OF A DAY this guy went from being an admittedly traumatized Reality T.V show host to JESUS CHRIST to extremely traumatized and wounded (and also out of a job) average robot guy. I THINK ITS SO AMUSING AND ALSO VERY INSANE.

Something something him having nightmares of being a god again, of having all that power, being in a position of such authority and KNOWING IT, and all the things he could do with it. How he'd kill and disrespect and hurt others without a single care in the world because he was untouchable. In another world, maybe he IS just like that, but in this one, the idea now TERRIFIES him. I love (and have talked about before) the idea of mephone specifically avoiding leadership positions and not trying to take on more power then he thinks he's 'worthy' of because he's nervous at the idea of controlling others. And I think it holds really valid when you look at canon. Power imbalance has been the root of all his pain, be it cobs or himself. And that. Agh. Ough. Ouch. This guy. I haven't seen anyone point out that Box's death mirrors Mephone's and its killing me. Mephone tried so hard to cover up Box's death and erase it from reality like it never happened because, look! She's still alive! And because everyone is connected to Mephone they just... believe it.

And that's absolutely horrifying by the way, terrifying shit right there!!! Theres a lot to be said at the objective horror of Mephone creating them and having such blatant access to their minds to the point of being able to manipulate their thoughts like that. I've said this before but thank god Mephone never intended to make them because. By god. If that phone had a bit of bloodlust in him the contestants would be so fucked.

But yeah, back to the whole 'their deaths mirror each other' thing, holy shit, what a prophecy that was. "Yeah that death you tried so hard to erase from your memory to the point of treating a corpse like a living thing??? it's happening to you now" And honestly he treats his own death in the same way. He doesn't mention it. He retcons it from his own mind. The contestants hardly bring it up despite it being pretty damn significant! It's like it never happened, and 4S never existed, and he never died...

Idk theres a LOT to be said about. How EXTREMELY GOOD Mephone is at just manipulating himself to believe whatever he wants to be true and completely forgetting everything that makes him upset. Like obviously this is something we knew he did. Theres a whole episode about it. But the fucking??? LENGTHS he goes to are legitimately wild. This character... I need to study him. -2G Anon
