#EVENT : MASKERADE RERUN

Please note that this does not begin until Friday, December 20th at 12:00:01am EST. No starters, info posts, or ads can be made before that point. This is just an information post for preparation's sake!

We previously teased that we'd be doing something different for the December event, and this is it! Because everyone is busy with the holidays and there are likely event reruns some members would like to do but can't since they never win the polls, we decided to try a period where you can choose whichever event you'd like to write during the three week event period. We're posting this in advance so you can think about what you'd like to pick!

There are, of course, some rules and caveats for this:

Most events are available to be chosen but not all of them. This is because some of the staff who wrote those events are no longer with us. You can find a list of eligible events at the bottom of this post!

You must choose a single event to receive event participation with on any single blog. You're more than welcome to thread with others doing other events so that they have people to write with, but you can only claim participation for a single event during this period!

There is a flat reward of a free unlock for everyone who participates regardless of whether or not the event you pick gives an unlock. This is so everyone receives an unlock regardless of the event chosen. Picking one that gives an unlock will not give you two, you will still only receive the single unlock. You must write at least 300 IC words for your chosen event to be eligible to claim the unlock.

The usual rules on the EVENT RERUN GUIDE still apply! Your character will see the city in the state that it was in during that event, and will believe everyone is going through the same thing.

A more complete post will be made on Friday with any questions that have been asked in the interim. So if you have any questions about how things work, please send them to the masterlist (not the Discord server) before Friday!

        when the invitation arrived, he did not glance it at twice. it is not strange that he finds the familiarity with the corners of the castle that refused to let anyone see comforting, but his fingers brush across the walls, intent in searching for anything he can learn. his shoulders barely move as he inspects all that is possible, posture straight and deceptively instinctive, the few times his face is found under a light looking effortlessly calm and beautiful even when he’s singing to himself. there were things that had always come naturally to him, and his eyes holding this gentleness was not one of them.

but it was still a natural progression of his life. he continues his singing, half-ancient and half-human and nothing in between, the softness in his eyes genuine and with the few hints of what could be a smile as the tunes continue in the dimly lighted hallway. his voice stops when he hears something near.

     his gaze falls upon towards the sound, a curious expression in his features. another would have no choice but to look away but for some reason — unfathomable, inexplicable in every way he could understand, it almost feels like he’s waiting for someone. or maybe, he has gone through this before, meeting in the cold and in the dark. memory of a memory, his mind whispers in a language he’s intimate with but that still offers no answers. “Any louder and I’ll believe you are not lost.”

“A buried fortress...? Ah, I’m so sorry, but I’ll have to decline,” Kay bows slightly, a too-pleasant smile lingering on her features. “While, uh... ghost hunting does sound interesting, don’t you think that’s a bit dangerous...? Not to mention that place is probably dreadfully filthy. I'm afraid I don’t really like getting dirty.”

She laughs softly, covering her mouth. Surely no self respecting princess would play in the mud!

Frankly, she isn’t even sure why this guy is talking to her, let alone inviting her places, but she’s trying her best to be polite amidst the partygoers.

“I think I’d be better off on the calmer side of the festivities, that’s a bit more my speed. I’m not much for adventuring or roughhousing.”

MASKERADE EVENT INFO

         for the event, mewtwo will actually be wearing a costume of a familiar pikachu - plus a few more festive pieces like an occasional vampire cloak, a witch hat, etc. they can still talk through telepathy, but for the most part they’re going to be playing the part of a regular pikachu - why? because they’ve never had the experience of being a normal pokemon before, and who would know it was actually them, anyway?

“Hey, you. You got any of the candy that fixes this costume crap?” Lilith puts one hand on her hip, holding her other hand out expectantly. Maybe this guy will have one... she doesn’t even care if she has to beat him up and take it. She’s had enough of this dumb cheerleader act.

“And not a word about the outfit, OK? I know it’s stupid. But, like, I am not taking fashion advice from someone dressed like that.”

His costume isn’t even bad, she’s just mean.

MASQUERADE.

i spent some time thinking what she would go as but i finally had an idea! it’s only one costume for the festivities unless i pick another. here are the the details:

SPIRIT OF SPRING. a little literal but she is! she’s more a figment of what the season feels like, but at her core she’s more the Arturia that embodies the holy sword than the village girl. she speaks more formally and appears more emotionally distant thanks to the faraway and nostalgic look in her eyes. the flowers in her head belong to a nameless fairy and are in a state of never decaying. her blonde hair has been replaced by a more pink-like one, same as her eyes. power-wise, she has none of her previous abilities. she can float and grow plants and trees without moving a finger but she has no combat related abilities. sometimes she’ll behave more mischievously but in general, she’s more graceful and mature, almost as if she is aware of how she’s a corpse of spring than an ordinary girl.

arturia’s going to try all the activities, and yes that includes the monster massacre too! you can find her everywhere but you’ll see her looking for candy bars all through the island. it’s free real estate!

Unlike Obsidian, Cosmo’s not going to be collecting debt. They’re collecting CANDY!

Now this is more like it!

Cosmo’s basically the same, but with a bit of chemistry mixed in with all the engineering stuff.

Can make tiny cool glow-in-the-dark potion bottles as Halloween gifts for everyone that come in a variety of colors! (Basically just water, some sort of phosphor, and food coloring)

Let’s just hope they don’t make an explosion happen on purpose.

Astronaut

Complete with Anti-Gravity boots and a Laser Gun, both of which Cosmo invented themself! The Laser gun works, but they won’t use it until the Atlantic Ledge activity.

Thought the normal white-grey astronaut costumes were boring so they bought a lavender-colored one instead. 

Has little openings on the top for their adorable bunny ears!

Costume originally came with gloves, but Cosmo didn’t wear them so they could hold the Laser Gun easier without it slipping out of their hands.

“Come on, Ada, when have I ever left you hanging?” A smirk crosses his face as he waits to meet her. Originally he hadn’t planned to attend the ball at all... not only was it crowded and loud, but he felt almost silly putting on a costume. But then Ada asked him to go.

(I never have been able to resist her, have I?)

“Besides, it makes sense that a queen would have a certain amount of sway over her loyal knight. And, uh... over the years I’ve found that you give pretty solid advice.” Never steered him wrong yet, right? And though something as small as a costume choice was a harmless risk, there’s trust behind those words. He’d put his life in her hands over and over, after all-- an outfit is nothing.

After a moment of letting her touch linger, he’s unable to stop a smile as he takes her hand into his own. Slowly, he brings it to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of her hand.

“I’m a big fan of the red dress, but you pull off black just as well.” He hasn’t let go of her hand, but he barely notices. “Probably not great for fighting in, though, huh?”

It makes sense that his thoughts would go there. How rare it is that they’re able to be close without having to think about things like fighting or running... though it’s been safe in this place, circumstances like that are hard to forget.

All at once, he realizes he’s still holding her hand, and sheepishly lets go, a blush staining his cheeks as he runs a hand through his now-longer hair.

“Shall we go? I haven’t been to a party in...” a pause. If he has to think about it that much it’s been too long. “... a while.”

“I’ll follow your lead, your majesty.”

" I must say...I didn't think you'd take my suggestion."

as always, she speaks with such ease, her words holding almost no weight to them. soft yet curious. prodding yet disinterested. it was carefully crafted from years of her work and had only been enhanced by her chosen costume for this ball. truly, she didn't expect to find Leon here, of all places. he didn't seem the ball type. he agreed quickly enough to humoring her and dressing up, yet to pick something she chose on a whim... " Really, Leon. You shouldn't let me sway you so easily. " again, her words are said so nonchalantly, yet there is an underlying truth to them.

part of her wishes he showed more aversion to her. it would make things easier. and yet, he has already carved a place inside of her heart. a soft spot that she finds herself time and time again actively choosing to indulge.

heels finally come to a halt, that short distance between them closed in a few languid strides, her gown trailing behind her like water. hesitation does not exist as her hand reaches up, fingers carefully carding through now midnight locks, knuckels ghosting across his jawline, though she hardly notices this. " It suits you, though. "

HOW PARTICIPATING IN MULTIPLE EVENTS WORKS

As a preliminary reminder: you can only claim participation for a single event regardless of how many you participate in. Participating in multiple events is more to help others get interactions as most members will be choosing different things.

Characters are sent to a different digital reconstruction of the city depending on which rerun you're doing. Areas unique to the event are recreated in this space too.

Characters will not remember being in multiple events at the same time during the event period. You can't have a thread in Subversion and then hop into The Maskerade Festival and have your character recall being in Subversion right before that. They will remember all of the events after this event period is over, however.

Because the event reruns take place in a digital space, there is no 1:1 timeline with the outside world. Reruns have no tangible effect on the city where business continues as usual. Just because your character feels like they spent a week in an event does not mean a week has passed in the city proper. Just keep in mind that events do canonically last two to four weeks depending on the event, so your character couldn't spend more than that amount of time (from their perspective) in a single event rerun.

On the 20th of October, a low rumble shook throughout the city as invisible cameras pointed the image on every digital device towards the hole in the center of the city. Nothing rose from it, but as if like magic an old castle materialized from a blizzard of bats that manifested and scattered about. Each bat carried a tiny envelope. An invitation. One personally delivered to each and every citizen in the city with haste.

“Dear honoured guest. We await your attendance at the the Bodaciously Booful Ball at Costumed Carl’s Castle at the city’s centre. Please come in costume at your earliest convenience, and please enjoy your stay. Just remember, the castle will disappear when Halloween comes to an end.”

It was an unusual invitation, but even more unusual was the venue. Regardless of the time of day, if you stepped onto the castle’s property it would be the moment dusk turned to night, with a sky full of beautiful stars. Of course, this wasn’t any ordinary castle. From the courtyard to the halls, it is decorated like a haunted house. There may even be some real skeletons from Cotes lurking around, but don’t worry they’ll just be serving your drinks. 

The real draw of the castle is the glamorous ballroom. The ideal setting for a relaxing date or to meet some friends, with generous helpings of food that respawn as soon as they are consumed. The music here ranges from modern hits to classic melodies, yet if you desire to hear a certain song or musical genre, strangely it seems that’s what will play to both yourself and anyone in your group.

So kick back, break a leg, and make wonderful Halloween memories! ...Or you could venture into the rest of the castle, which is a verifiably horrific haunted house. But these horrors will not harm you! You have Costumed Carl’s guarantee!

NOTES

attending the ball or haunted house is not required for event participation, it’s just a cute little addition to the event for the final stretch!

if you do visit the castle though, your character will be given the following:

OUTFIT ORB A “magical” orb that allows your character to store outfits inside, permitting them to instantly change their outfit at will. Simply register pieces of clothing that you own by pressing them against the translucent, digital orb for them to be absorbed within the orb’s hammerspace. Then control the closet menu by double tapping the orb, bringing up the holographic menu where you can use your mind to assemble outfits and, when you want to change, swap them! There are a few caveats however:

you do not need to claim the orb via the masterlist nor galaxy blog, simply add it to your character’s inventory after writing a post that takes place in the bonus setting!

as the outfit orb was originally a reward for doing a trick or treating post on the 31st, this is still a valid way to claim it. you can find more information on that method here along with extra details about the outfit orb.

“Hey, do you want to play with me?” Kay had been following them for a little while now, and she’s sure they know. She hasn’t exactly been subtle.

“There’s hide and seek in the maze, and scavenger hunts, or pretend in the woods... i know lots of games!” After a brief pause, she shrugs, using her new powers to teleport in front of them, hanging upside down from a branch.

“Hi. What’s your name? I’m Kay.”

“Hold it right there!!” Kay puts her hands on her hips, planting her feet apart in the toughest pose she can muster given her height. When she’d seen a scary demon wreaking havoc on some unsuspecting partygoers, she knew she had to stop him.

“Mr. Kratos, did you just scare those people on purpose?? That’s absolutely unforgivable! It’s wrong to go around causing trouble like that!” Holding her wand out, she strikes a pose, silhouetted against the starry sky.

“If you don’t cease your trouble-making this instant, I’ll be forced to step in and put a stop to it myself!”

        the mistwood is difficult to travel but his eyes can see clearly, looking for the cabin with careful precision. the ghosts refuse to appear for longer than a few seconds, and it’s probably hilarious for them to continue playing as such with him. unfortunately, his patience can last longer than most. he has nothing against waiting for them to slip up and reveal themselves, his choice of costume had not been planned for this but it was proving more than useful.

his eyes turn around and he finds something that could not be a ghost but something dead in every sense of the word.

     other people, he has found, will see what they want to see. it does not matter if it’s right or wrong, reasons are rarely logical and his own mind has grown numb to not feel anything more than he should. is it that strange that Mashu would stumble when they all refuse to lend her a hand? that she would allow someone else wear her flesh and let them to breathe in her place? it’s not his responsibility, he has no right to chastise her in this, but he wants to ask her how much does she think she can carry without it tearing her apart.

he stays still for a moment, letting his eyes say words. he clicks his tongue, teeth bare, not apologetic at all. if it’s taken as a sign of hostility, then he has no problems with it. Mashu had always had a heart like a canvas, and it was why many wanted her to learn things on her own, but he knows how much grief can leave nothing but rage. he has seen it before, in her, in himself and he cannot keep her away from harm. a part of him wishes he could, the one that is aware blood means nothing, not when he sees her and not the man that left them behind.

     “I thought you were disgusted at their folly,” he points out calmly. “Were those empty words?”

“Emil! Are you enjoying the party?” Kay beams up at him, a small bow as he approaches.

“I must admit, I was a bit wary of attending the event without my parents, but I’m glad I did. I’m having such a lovely time...” Her mind’s a bit fuzzy on that last bit... where are her parents? Shouldn’t they be here? It would make sense at a party...

She shakes her head, snapping herself out of it. It wouldn’t do to act like this in public!

“It’s no matter, though. I know I can count on you to protect me, right?”
