Evan Peters x Actress!reader
summary: Evan is your boyfriend, but has been hesitant lately about showing you off.
word count: 658
a/n: this is not my best work, i just had the itch to write, so bear with me. criticism and suggestions are welcome <3
warnings: none!
You and Evan had been seeing each other for a few months now, under the radar. It started as a coffee date after a chemistry read, where you were casted as a couple in an upcoming movie. You had hit it off pretty well, and one thing led to another.
It was four months in, and it was getting harder and harder to hide. Your urges to soft launch him on your story were strong, but not as strong as your loyalty to Evan. You would have to talk to him about it first.
“Hey, Ev?” You ask, lifting your head from his chest. The two of you were sitting on his couch, curled into blankets, watching one of those cheesy Hallmark movies. He hums in response, taking a second to tear his eyes from the screen. “What do you think of me maybe posting you just on my Instagram story?” You offer, sitting up a bit more to sit face to face.
Evan paused, clearly not expecting that question. He lets out a prolonged “Uhh” for a second, grabbing the remote to pause the TV. “I mean, I don’t know,” he says eventually, scratching the back of his head in thought.
“Not anything super serious. Just…a soft launch.” You say, watching his expression as it sticks. “I just feel like it’s been long enough. Y’know?”
He hums at that, clearing his throat. “I thought we were gonna wait until after the show aired.” Evan looks at you fully then, making eye contact with you. It sticks for a moment, an unvoiced conversation happening between the two of you.
You deflate, seeing the hesitance in his eyes. “Listen..” He comforts softly, pulling you close again. “I know. It’s easy to jump right into showing each other off when we like each other so much, but I’ve been burned before. I’m not saying I don’t believe in us, I just think we should wait. Okay?” He explains, hand slowly running up and down your arm.
Part of you wants to lash out. Yell about how he’s not proud of you, and he doesn’t deserve you. But that small part of you understands. You weren’t just normal people. Relationships were a big deal in this industry, and had to be passed around carefully. Luckily, that part took hold as you relaxed into his side. “Okay,” you whisper, nodding and returning to your position on his chest. He reaches for the remote and the movie resumes, gaining your full attention once more.
—————————————————————————
Today marked the six month anniversary of you and Evan’s relationship. Half a year may not seem like a big deal to most adult relationships, but to you two, it was something to celebrate. Your TV show had just come out, it was getting great ratings, the two of you were scheduling interview after interview. This was your excuse to be alone.
Evan had made a reservation at a fairly fancy restaurant, telling you to dress your best. You spent at least two hours getting dolled up, and maybe matching your outfit to the color of his suit.
When you two arrived, you were seated immediately. It was a beautiful, dimly lit restaurant with off-white linen tablecloths. The prices were nowhere to be found on the menu, which is how you really knew it was bad.
Before you could think about it any further, you heard the click of Evan’s phone camera. You look up, seeing your boyfriend smiling at his phone, solidifying your theory.
“Did you just take a picture of me?” You ask, watching him tuck his phone away.
“Maybe. Is that a problem?” He teased, picking his glass up to sip his wine.
“I suppose not,” You chuckle. “Who are you sending that to?”
“You’ll see.”

From @niffler-gold
From @niffler-gold to @mariashades
3 prompts:
Cosy warm and safe
As many or as few of the family as will fit into the story
A peaceful moment among the hectic
Scott jumped as a snowball hit him square in the face splattering ice cold droplets down the neck of his uniform. He turned glowering trying to locate the culprit. He didn’t have to look very far as there was Gordon a second snowball ready in his hand with Alan next to him bent over laughing. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. He began furiously yelling at them, going on and on about how they were at a rescue site and they didn’t need this kind of tom foolery to add to the mess and how they couldn’t ever listen or follow the simplest of orders. By this point Gordon’s mouth was hanging open in shock and the second snowball lay discarded at his feet, Alan behind him was on the verge of tears. John was furiously trying to get through his com to try and calm him but it took a huge bear screaming “Scott” to get him to stop. Virgil had come around the back of two to find out what all the noise was about to see the sight of Scott absolutely tearing into the tinies.
That seemed to shock Scott out of it as he stopped mid-sentence. Vigil spoke once more in a loud growl. “Why are you yelling at them like that, actually don’t answer that, you’ve been in a bad mood all week but it gives you no right to speak to them in that way.” Scott turned away from them all took in a long breath and spat out “pack it up, were going home.”
Virgil walked to check on the younger two as Scott walked away from them back to thunderbird one without looking back. No one saw the tears escaping from Scott’s eyes as he walked. Virgil immediately jumped into medic mode crouching in front of Gordon to make sure he was okay. “You okay he asked”. “What’s his problem”, questioned Gordon, “it’s Christmas Eve and all I was trying to do was lighten the mood”. “I don’t know Gordon, I really don’t know I know it’s been a heavy week for rescues but this is odd even for him. John chose that moment to interject “he’s been getting more and more worked up all week, but even in the past no matter how bad he’s gotten he’s never snapped like this, especially not at Gordon and Alan”.
Scott flew home mentally berating himself for losing his temper on his younger brothers, just one more problem to add to his ever growing list of disasters. He could count on one hand the number of hours of sleep he had gotten this week due to rescues and ever growing problems at Tracy industries due to the end of the year. And to top it all off news articles had decided to swarm him critiquing his every move in the past eight years since his father had disappeared, down to how he ran Tracy industries to his command role in international rescue and even worse was how he was a parent to his siblings. Slow news week john had told him over coms, which was laughable in itself considering how many rescues they seemed to be attending this week. A few more tears escaped Scott’s eyes as he tried to figure out how he was going to make it up to his brothers after his outburst. But the fact was he simply just didn’t have the time and on top of everything he still had to organize Christmas for his brothers. Ever since his dad had disappeared the job of filling up his brothers stockings and getting them gifts was up to him.
As soon as one was in her docking bay Scott normally would be up and out but not today. He just sat there his mind racing with a hundred thousand different thoughts of what he needed to do. He didn’t even register the sound of two landing and rolling herself into the hangar thirty minutes later.
Gordon, Alan, Virgil, and john had come up with a plan on their way home to get Scott talking to them and find out what was wrong. Knowing Scott he would be at the desk writing up the report from the day’s rescue they planned to talk to him there and get him to put his feet up for a bit and relax as it was Christmas after all. Once they all finally found their way into the com’s room though they were shocked to find it empty except john sitting all alone. “He’s not here” exclaimed Gordon. “You mean he wasn’t still down in the showers with you” questioned john. This wasn’t normal at all. The first thing Scott did not matter what if he had an argument was to find the said brother and apologise, or would wait for them by the desk so he could make sure they were okay. This definitely was not normal at all.
John walked up to the desk and pulled up a map of the villa and hangars, “he’s still in one” he announced quietly, that sent alarm bells ringing for all the brothers. John sat down at the desk and quietly began tapping keys on the control panel. “What are you doing” asked Alan nervously. “Getting to the bottom of what’s going on” he replied, none of the brothers said anything as they rounded the desk to see what john would find. It was an unwritten rule of the household not to snoop into each other’s computers, but they needed to find out what the hell was going on. Almost immediately nearly 200 documents opened on Scott’s page, ranging from end of year TI documents to GDF documents concerning IR, to horrific news articles being published about their older brother dating from this week. The brothers looked on in horror as they stared at the mountain that was on top of their brother. “No wonder he was tense”, remarked Alan. What’s this asked Virgil clicking on a document marked Christmas? In here they found a document with each of their brother’s names and a detailed plan of surprising them on Christmas morning with gifts and personal experiences to make a glorious day. “Shit” said Gordon. “Shit indeed” whispered john. “We need to fix this” Virgil stated. And from there a plan was hatched.
Scott didn’t know how long he sat there for; all he knew was tears kept creeping down his face every so often. It wasn’t until a large bang went off he even knew where he was. With his heart racing he smashed the button to disembark from the craft and was running in seconds to the source of the noise. He tried calling his brothers over coms to see if they were all right but no one picked up. He skidded into the kitchen to see Gordon holding two large pans next to john’s com which he was holding out to Gordon. The rest of the brothers were also there standing in a line in the most fluffy Christmas pyjamas he had ever seen. Scott stood there frozen in front of them with red eyes from crying and the tear tracks still visible on his face. Virgil walked forward and pulled him into the biggest most bone crushing hug he had ever given anyone before. Scott just shrunk into him letting himself feel small against the huge fluffy arms that held him up. Next thing he knew he had a small Alan squeezing in-between them snuggling up against him. He fell to the floor cuddling the giant teddy bear that was his younger brother whispering how sorry he was continually into his ear. Next he knew Gordon was on the other side of him snuggling in as well telling him to stop being such a dafty. Virgil had kept his arms around Scott as he had sat down and now had John helping him hug his brother on the floor as well. Not one of the brothers could tell you how long they stayed liked that only that none of them wanted to be the first to break the cuddle pile. Eventually Scott sat up straighter though and whispered a thank you to all of them. Only then did they begin to let go. Alan told him to go get a shower and to meet them upstairs as they had a surprise for him.
When Scott got out of the shower he was delighted to find a pair of matching fluffy pyjamas waiting for him. He threw them on and went to find the rest of the family who were already sitting together in a pile of blankets and cushions with big mugs of hot chocolate. He saw that a mug was waiting for him on the side and picked it up. As soon as the brothers saw him they moved aside to let him into the middle of the cushion and blanket pile and as he sat down his brothers cuddled up to him and his favourite holiday movie began playing, Klaus. Before the movie began properly though john handed him his data holopad and whispered “merry Christmas Scott”. He opened it to find every job on it was either completed or delegated to the right person, every news article bad mouthing him and also seemed to have disappeared as well. The only thing open was his file marked Christmas. He opened it to find a blank document with only 4 words. Enjoy your Christmas Scott. It was signed by each of his brother, and a cheeky AI which is how he presumed all of the news articles had gone missing but he wasn’t going to poke around to find out.
He sat back sipping his hot chocolate feeling happier than he had done in a long time. He really did have the best brothers ever he thought as he slowly drifted off to sleep. He awoke early the next morning to find all of his brothers still firmly asleep next to him, he smiled to himself as he relished being in a cosy cuddle pile (even if Gordon was drooling onto his foot). Just then a call came through from Eos waking the rest of the brothers up. Less than 10 minutes later they were all on their way to help dig out a small (and by small I mean like 3 houses max) village at the base of a mountain. They all decided to go to make it quicker and since it was Christmas they wanted to spend the time together even if it was on a rescue.
With the heavy snow lifting power of thunderbird two they were finished within 30 minutes. They were just packing up and stretching before heading back home to open presents when a giant snowball pummelled Gordon right in the face. He wiped the snow from his eyes to see Scott bent over double laughing with hysterics. He hadn’t even had a chance to blink when the back of Scott’s head was smashed by another snowball. Scott straightened up and turned around to see john standing all innocently chucking a snowball with one hand and catching it. He sees Scott looking at him with a look of bewilderment on his face and winks at him and chucks the snowball in his hand hitting Alan perfectly square in his face. From there all five brothers began attacking each other with snow balls. No one was safe. Soon some of the small children from the houses peeked out to see what was happening and began joining in. In the end it was all out war with the brothers teaming up and facing off against the whole village, snowballs were flying everywhere. In the end Scott had to call it off as some of the children and his brothers had begun to turn blue with the cold. It was safe to say this defiantly wasn’t going to be a Christmas that Scott ever forgot. (Especially since john had managed to access thunderbirds two outside video feed that had recorded the entire event and had a picture hanging in the hallway of an astonished snow covered Gordon.) Yes, this was definitely one great Christmas.

Guys, the music industry is very complex and competitive. Things don't always go as planned, and saying Louise "can't find a label" is oversimplifying things. Many factors influence an artist's success, and not all of them are within their control. She mentioned in her comment that she faced problems in France specifically because there are many challenges for independent artists like her who struggle to make a significant impact and gain proper recognition for their efforts in the music industry //
This is gonna be a long comment so bear with me.
You cannot compare Louise with actual independent artists. Those artists are releasing songs and taking gigs whenever they can. They know that the music industry is competitive so whenever they get an opportunity to further their career, they take it. Whether it’s through uploading songs on SoundCloud or YouTube or playing in random bars, they are continuously working.
Louise doesn’t do any of this. She competed on The Voice in 2012 (over 12 years ago) and even though she didn’t win, she still managed to make it to episode 10 and was mentored by Louis Bertignac, one of the most successful musicians in France. Bertignac had previously helped produce and write Carla Bruno’s debut album which was very successful in France. Louise was given the opportunity to record an album with Bertignac and what did she do with that opportunity? She decided not to continue on with the album because she said it wasn’t true to herself (kinda funny for someone who’s based her entire persona around Jane Birkin but whatever). Now, this by itself isn’t so bad. There are many artists who refuse to release music that they feel isn’t true to themselves. That’s perfectly fine. The difference between Louise and these artists is that they continue working on music unlike Louise.
Her debut single was finally released in December 2018 (5 years after The Voice), just months after she started dating Alex. This was the one time in her career where she actually did something right. She was dating a the frontman of a very popular band and their relationship was still new at the time so she had eyes on her. It was the perfect timing and she took advantage of that and was actually productive for once in her career. She released an EP in June 2019 and then her debut album in April 2020. She also did something performances during this time as well.
But that was the last time she ever did anything music related. It’s been over four years since the album and she’s released nothing and, in 2022, she got dropped by her label. To be fair, four years isn’t that long for an artist to not release an album. AM did it, Lorde did it, Frank Ocean is currently doing it, etc. But the difference between Louise and these artists is that they’re still doing something music-related in between albums. Whether it’s releasing standalone singles or performing.
During the time between AM and TBHAC, the band went on tour and headlined Leeds festival in 2014, Alex worked on TLSP’s second album EYCTE which was released in 2016, TLSP appeared on various talk shows like Seth Meyers and James Corden while promoting the album, they performed at multiple festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and many more from 2016-2017, Matt played drums on an Iggy Pop album (recorded in 2015, released in 2016), Alex worked on Alexandra Savior’s debut album (which they recorded from 2014-2015, performed in 2016, and was released in 2017), the band started working on TBHC in 2017, released the album in 2018 and performed at multiple festivals right after.
Even during a five year hiatus between AM albums, Alex was still working unlike Louise who’s basically been an influencer (and even that’s stretching it because pretty much all of her followers and “fans” are Alex fans) since 2020, not a musician. Obviously he’s gonna have way more opportunities than she does but it’s not like there’s nothing she can do. She could’ve released standalone singles or even covers during that time. They don’t even have to be official recordings, she could’ve filmed a short clip of her singing something (a demo, a cover, literally whatever) and uploaded it on her Instagram. She could’ve performed at local venues and slowly build her way up to bigger gigs. She could’ve posted song lyrics she wrote.
These are all things independent musicians do. They know that they have to seize every single opportunity they get and continuously promote themselves in order to even have a chance of getting their big break. They work hard because they need to. Louise was lucky enough to be able to rely on Alex for everything (which is just plain stupid) so she no longer has to work for anything. This is why she fumbles every opportunity she gets (like that one brand she got a sponsorship deal with which she eventually lost because couldn’t even do the bare minimum of promoting them properly. Actual indie musicians would kill for this and she just fumbles it). She has no incentive to work hard and this is why no one will ever take her seriously as a musician.
Exactly.

ASH TREE EXTINCTION
Emerald ash borer beetles are destroying North American ash tree populations. In a matter of a couple decades, the bugs have reduced ash numbers to a fraction of what they were. “Functional” extinction, meaning extinct outside of human intervention, is imminent for the ash trees of the upper Midwest—and soon, for ash trees everywhere. For a couple hundred bucks a pop, ash trees can be inoculated against the bugs—meaning, with the proper funding and man power, they could be saved. However, the state isn’t even considering the option. Some restrictions have been put in place to minimize the spread of the beetle, but it’s apparent local governments have no intention of shifting efforts from slowing the extinction to an attempt to save the North American ash tree.
It's a shame, considering the spending habits and rhetoric of such a nihilistic government. Every week, millions of dollars are vomited up from the state’s coffers to fund vague corporate-washed “sustainability” initiatives. Most of it serves as little but market bucks to give the state or its private cronies an environmentally friendly sheen. Meanwhile hundreds of millions more are gobbled up in subsidies for massive energy companies who continue to profit from fossil fuels. New cobalt and rare earth mining operations receive federal greenlights in the name of a supposedly “sustainable” EV industry. The sustainability industry, claiming to be saviors of the earth and its critters, is quite literally letting a whole species of tree die off despite a clear path to success—at a fraction of the fraction of the cost spent to spread “awareness” about things like biodiversity loss. In 2022 alone, the Biden administration set aside something like 44 billion to “tackle the climate crisis”.

In comparison, the state of Minnesota has set aside something like 2 to 3 million to protect ash trees from emerald borers, apparently through “community forestry activities on public lands”. The same bureaucrats coughing up 3 million to stop the very real extinction of our ash trees are expected to hurl up 17.5 billion for all those beautifully vague “sustainability” initiatives.
I’d have to guess a great deal of these initiatives include the creation of new financial opportunities for these bureaucrats in ways that killing emerald borers and inoculating ash trees just can’t. If the black ash or mountain ash controlled a share of the energy market and had a small army of lobbyists on their payroll, they might be lucky enough to be made the poster child of the great climate crisis, lucky enough to receive even a shred of the publicity that Greta Thunberg or the countless pretty teenagers crowding the “climate crisis” get all the time.
Every now and then, the environmentalists throw actual Wilderness a bone. Probably by accident. A glacier, usually. Glaciers and polar bears—even then, some pretty teenager is always there to devour the microphone.
New generations are growing up with peers suffering from “climate anxiety” and uncles and aunts dying from “climate related” causes. Millions of Americans will call themselves environmentalists without having spent a night in wilderness, some without having ever really seen the stars. This is how multinational corporations will seize the new markets of the 21st century, developing more wilderness and farmlands than ever before, as American consumers convince themselves their Tesla is atonement enough.

SORRY FOR ALL THE ASKS BUT, along with deco and Eve, I've been having MASSIVE Aishire ( and overall industrial district ) brainrot, and I was wondering if I could get more on Aishires personality. She's just so interesting, TDYFHRJRKYKH. I LOVE HIM SMM ( probably my favorite corphead )💞💞💞💞
-paris anon
YOU'RE GOOD!! I LOVE ANSWERING ASKS ^_^ I'M GLAD YOU LOVE HIM SO MUCH.... my little freaklet
aishire suppresses a lot, and I do mean a lot, of his emotions from general distrust of everyone
she's just. very paranoid in general, she hates the idea of getting hurt and dying (yet she will make sure others are beaten to death). she's just afraid everyone she's hurt in the past will come back and make her repent and so she makes sure no one can do that to her
generally she's also pretty obsessive and as a result hardworking, but it genuinely is destructive towards her own body, health, and mind (only really deepens her paranoia) and when she's most overworked she makes the most rash decisions (like making a fucking killing game show with her former employees yeah that's such a good idea aishire)
HOWEVER. ONE GOOD THING ABOUT AISHIRE IS THAT SHE IS ABSOLUTELY DEDICATED AND A GENUINE GENIUS. she's made hundreds of robots, all better than the last (doesn't help with that obsession part lol) and she's progressed technology almost single handedly in novaturient.
her robots are a coping mechanism, she originally created the bear robot to be her companion when no one else was
i didn't mean for her to seem like such a shut in esp with all her weirdgirl tendencies and hobbies lol but it is what it is

Ruby Beach
In response to Eve Tuck's essay "What Is Your Theory of Change These Days?" (link here)

November afternoon, warm sun slanting through wind-sheared Douglas-fir, pungent seaweed and cedar aloft on salty breeze. I watch gray fog on the far horizon, somewhere out over the continental shelf, stretching as far north and south as I can see. The wind plays with the fog. It billows this way and that, like bellows on a fire, like inhalations and exhalations. Chatter of Steller’s jays and human children mingles with crash of waves twice my height, too tall to bear their own weight. The beach collects driftwood. Elderly trees felled and eroded then returned to the land, bark and cork stripped, sensitive innards salinated, outer layers gray with sunburn.
I have been here before.
March 2020. My girlfriend Sammy and I are removed from student housing to return to our “permanent homes.” We have nowhere else to go, nowhere safe; Juneau is our permanent home. Our car barely survives the trek down the Alaska Highway. We are forced into my parents’ house in rural Colorado. It stands in the middle of a recently razed forest. They hope prairie fire will prove easier to fight than forest fire in the increasingly dry, combustible summers. My body is rounding out and reorganizing from the effects of potent estradiol and antiandrogens; I am just beginning to understand that male and cis privilege were never mine. My parents’ fear of my new body fuels hot and sudden fights. My parents are more dangerous than the virus.
We escape with little more than a backpack each and a car on its last legs. We turn our eyes northwest, as near to Juneau as we can get, Bellingham, Washington, searching for jobs and housing at a time when the world is shut down. We occupy ourselves with day trips as our funds dwindle. Even the entrance gates to Ruby Beach are closed. We park on the shoulder of the 101 and climb over them. The tide is out, and crows play in wind currents above the muddy beach. It is cloudy, the ocean a deep slate color, darker even than the driftwood that dwells on the beach. Strong winds threaten to topple older trees into the sea. Here, in old growth forest, taller trees protect younger, shorter ones. When trees do fall, they become nurse logs. Saplings grow from centuries-old nutrients held in xylem and phloem. In deforested or reforested areas, entire hectares account for just one generation of trees and a single Pacific storm can blow over the whole forest. The wind here is constant, a limiting factor, a factor of death and regrowth.
The head gasket blows; we sell the car for $400. We spend a month saving for a U-haul and a security deposit to a shitty studio on the eighth floor of the tallest building for 900 miles around. But it’s in Juneau. So we return.
September 2021. My parents convince Sammy and I we can get better jobs Down South than in Juneau, where the ecotourism industry is still closed for the pandemic. It is soon obvious that they have invited us not out of goodwill, but out of spite, for the lack of control they have over our lives. They try to regain it, keeping us close in this too-familiar small town.
Jobs here are slim. The closest work we can find is twenty miles away; we spend the last of our savings on a down payment for a new-to-us car. We fight with my parents as much as we work. Wildfires burn in the Front Range, pines and willows scorched, leaving the landscape ripe for fertilization. Lodgepole pines and wildflowers germinate in the temporary heat. Still, scientists and locals call it “unnatural,” “unprecedented.” Smoke chokes prairies and reddens sunsets. Savings replenish until, one day, our bed and the roof over our heads are removed. As the rest of the world convinces itself it’s “going back to normal,” we realize that normal is not static. Unlike Juneau, it is not something to which one can ever return.
We work the gig economy south, following warmth, spending months driving through unfamiliar cities, delivering groceries and fast food to mansions and high-rises, sleeping in stiff sedan seats. I lapse on my medication, an unecessary expense in this time. I am faced with the abandonment of my parents, the threat of homelessness, the mental instability of forced detransition. Eight months I will go without it, body hair and anger sprouting where they hadn’t before. Finally, we have enough to buy a ferry ticket out of Bellingham. We follow the Mexican border west, then the Pacific Ocean north.
The first day of the new year. Snowclouds vacate the sky. Everything is fresh, as if reconstructed overnight. Waves are calm, lapping the snow on Ruby Beach, melting it as the tide comes in. I feel worn, hollow, surprised I am not as gray and eroded as the dead cedar and spruce in front of me. Each gnarled tree is longer than a bus. I cannot imagine the length of time they spent at sea, the process of erosion they underwent. I cannot imagine the splash of one of these trees into the sea after it succumbs to centuries of constant, cold wind. We continue northward, towards Juneau.
November 2023. Ocean wind is quiet and soft on my face. Sammy and I are in another Washington interlude, another time spent Down South and waiting for return to Juneau. For the first time, however, we have savings, a one-bedroom. For the first time, it is of our own accord that we have left. Seattle promises career advancements, a way to find stability, a way not to tumble over in the Juneau winds, blowing stronger in recent years. We sit together on the remains of a Sitka spruce, at least four feet in diameter, smooth and gray. We watch the waves collapse on themselves, watch the fog roll in.

The irritating thing about this article is that it totally fails to even mention the elephant in the room for elderly people: dementia. It’s not much good being able to potentially keep people alive until they’re 120 years old if for the final 25 years of their life they aren’t compos mentis.
I had a great-aunt who died 3 days before her 107th birthday. Up until age 89, she was remarkably physically and mentally active for someone of her age. At 89 she broke her hip, but remained mentally acute…until she was 92, at which point she started to get forgetful. The next 15 years were a long decline. I’d say the last 10 years of her life (from 97 to the eve of 107) were completely depressing. By 97 she was in full dementia mode, and it only got worse from there.
She kept on living for another decade after that, but it wasn’t much of a life. Most of the time she spent staring into space in her nursing home. She was too physically frail and also too mentally frail to continue living with family as she had before the dementia had set in.
She had lucid days, in which she didn’t actually remember her family, but did realize she had forgotten everything except her childhood and her young adult years. And she found this humiliating and stressful, to know she should recognize people, but not be able to.
The days when she was lost in her own world were in some ways better, from the point of view of her family members, than the days she was somewhat lucid, and angry about the gigantic holes in her memory.
If you live long enough, you will probably develop dementia. And none of the scientists interviewed for that article are addressing mental deterioration as well as physical deterioration.
The last decade of my great-aunt’s life was neither dignified nor happy. She couldn’t read a newspaper, or do a crossword puzzle (she was a crossword fiend up until her early 90s when her memory started to get patchy). I had a conversation with her when she was 102 in which she seemed to know who I was and had quite a lively conversation with me, until she called me by my grandmother’s first name.
I have a family resemblance to my (long deceased) grandmother. My great-aunt thought it was 1938, I’d just gotten engaged to her brother and was planning my wedding. It was an interesting conversation from a family history standpoint, but she wasn’t actually talking to me, her great-niece with whom she’d once had a fairly close relationship. She was talking to her future sister-in-law in 1938.
I had been warned she might mix living visitors up with other people who are long dead, and warned it was best to play along. So I pretended to be my grandmother, but I wasn’t really her. My great-aunt nodded off eventually, seeming content. It was the best visit I’d had with her since cognitive decline had set in. But in her mind, she was a young woman again in 1938, not a lady of 102 bedridden and living in a nursing home.
She went on for 5 more years like that (except getting a little worse each year), and death came as a merciful release. It left me terrified of developing dementia, and determined that if I do (which I probably will if I live long enough), I will use MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) as soon after diagnosis as possible.
Because the thought of my body living on long after my brain has exited the building repels me. I don’t want to keep going under those circumstances. Bear in mind that this great-aunt was merely the longest-lived relative of mine who developed dementia. Several others did as well. It’s a very cruel disease.
My oldest uncle was in the memory care unit of a nursing home in April 2020 when he died after Covid ripped through his nursing home. And less than a year later, his widow was also diagnosed with dementia. She’s still alive, but now also in a memory care unit. So my cousins will have lost both their parents in spirit before their parents’ bodies die.
And these billionaires who want to cheat death, do they really think they will be productively running their business empires when they’re 120? Because chances are they won’t. They’ll be in a very expensive nursing home, staring into space, reliving the glory days of their youth, or having relatively lucid days and realizing there are horrendous gaps in their memory and they don’t know who’s sitting at their bedside. And getting terribly agitated and embarrassed because they think they should remember.
Yes, there are people like Captain Tom who live to be 100 or more and don’t develop dementia, but that isn’t exactly the norm for centenarians.

Further, according to the Canadian government, the country’s aluminum producers have some of the lowest CO2 footprints in the world.
Alcoa Corporation and Rio Tinto partnered to form ELYSIS, headquartered in Montréal, Canada. In 2021, it successfully produced carbon-free aluminum at its Industrial Research and Development Center in Saguenay. The company is heralding the beginning of a new era for the global aluminum market with its ELYSIS™ technology, which eliminates all direct GHG emissions from the smelting process, and is the first technology ever to emit oxygen as a byproduct.
Wrapping Up
Aluminum is among the most widely used metals in the world today, and is anticipated to underpin the global transition to a low-carbon economy. Moreover, it is 100% recyclable and can retain its properties & quality post the recycling process.
Reprocessing the metal is a more energy-efficient option compared to extracting the element from an ore, causing less environmental damage. As a result, the demand for aluminum in the sustainable energy sector has thus increased. The efforts to combat climate change are thus expected to bolster the aluminum market’s growth over the forecast period.
