some thoughts/headcanons i had while drawing this:

since snuffy treats football as a job, i thought it would be in character (and very cute) if he gave his players mandatory rest days

these rest days aren't only when they dyed barou's hair but also when they have sleepovers n hang out!!

sleepover nights are arranged by aryu and sendou-- aryu does the decorating while sendou gets the snacks, chooses the movies, etc.

niko and aryu are watching puella magi madoka magica on niko's laptop. so far, mami is aryu's fav

niko's laptop has a sayaka miki sticker and a very off brand banana fish sticker that someone got him

sendou is always the first to fall asleep and every time the other members stuff a pillow under his head & throw a blanket on him. he's a heavy sleeper so once he's out, he's OUT

the plushies niko and aryu are holding belong to sendou

aiku looks like he's texting a girl & everyone assumes so but rly he's just watching baby animal tiktoks (usually baby chicks). sometimes niko gets nosy to see what he's doing and every time he gets whiplash

aryu painted everyone's nails black !!! though he made his own nails look a lil fancier because its ~osha~

barou is invited to everyone of these sleepovers but he rarely comes willingly, aiku and lorenzo usually drag him into this mess

in the drawing, barou's returning from a quick bathroom break or smth and while he was gone, lorenzo took his chances and brought out the popcorn

lorenzo is a messy eater so popcorn crumbs r everywhere..... barou hates it sooooooooooo much

HOWEVER in the drawing the popcorn mess isnt entirely from messy eating!! the real reason is lorenzo got bored and started bouncing popcorn off of sendou's forehead (his ass is NAWT waking up)

after having enough sleepovers, everyone kinda has their own spots & usually when barou is there, he's between aiku and niko-- he's cool being around them bc they usually just keep to their phones/laptops

^^ this doesnt stop lorenzo from throwing popcorn at him tho LMFAO and that's when aiku becomes not only the final wall for blue lock but the only wall between barou (becoming a murderer) and don "ace eater" lorenzo

and i think that's everything........ !!! if u read all this. Damn ur kinda my goat (THANK U)

i love how dead boy detectives presents such a diverse mix of the campiest, most over-the-top tv characters of all time, and the best representation of actual real-life human beings i think i have ever seen on television

There's something so perfect about Charles and Edwin loving and needing each other, but also going to Crystal and Niko's rooms respectively after a rough case because there is also so much value in them having sanctuaries outside of each other.

niko sasaki means so much to me like you don’t understand.

she’s incredibly, unwaveringly kind and she believes in people even when confronted with the most insane shit. when her beliefs are shaken, and she retreats into herself, it’s only out of fear that she’ll accidentally hurt someone. and even then it doesn’t take much for her to get back to optimism and humanism. she readily accepts ghosts and witches and talking cats and demons and the reality of literal hell. one of her parents is dead and the other is emotionally unavailable, but she doesn’t let herself become like that, she stays caring and loving to everyone. she’s terrified of many things, both supernatural and mundane, but she still shows up for her friends.

she’s so, so brave. she has hope. she’s been hurt but she’s still going and determined to find good.

the fact that she isn’t in the comics and was created for the show blows be away. she fits so seamlessly into the story, it’s hard to imagine the dead boy detectives without her. it’s a massive credit to the writers and to yuyu kitamura that her character is so well developed.

and something that really means the world to me is that she’s japanese. a wonderful, complex japanese character. a woman, no less. it is so rare to find that kind of representation in western media.

i love her. i need this show to be renewed and if she’s involved in any capacity i’ll jump for joy.

Crystal as full 80s ska punk and Niko as 1910s aesthetic (could go the American/British school girl route ig but I think it would be more fun to put her in Japanese clothing of the era !!!) would go so hard

Before the Dead Boys remove the Sprites from Niko, everything is jumbled and mixed up in her head. So once they’re gone and her hair goes white, Dunsmore wanted to keep her feeling very clean in monochromatic outfits for the rest of the season. She extensively collaborated with the hair and makeup team on Niko’s looks, giving them little pieces of her costume to use. “They always asked me about her nails, like, what color is she wearing? That was so fun,” says Dunsmore.  Every color Niko wears is inspired by what’s happening in that episode, from the green post-Sprite exodus to blue when she’s feeling sad. Niko only wears a white look, with nods to her Japanese heritage, in the finale as a reset. My heart stopped when I saw the loss of colors in Niko's outfits as the episodes progressed. Like she clearly loves colors! Her room is filled with. Her outfits are full of color! Yes it was the parasites but even her first appearance was colorful! So when her colors start to leave? Instant alarm bells. Her all light/white outfits really made her seem like a spectre of herself. Like how you would image a ghost of Niko to look and given how episode 8 turned out? I can't say I'm surprised

I just want to say that I love Esther Finch and she is a great villain but she is sooooooo sinister. I don't think enough people realize how terrible she truly is beacuse we mostly see her as a somewhat campy villain. Which she is but she is also so much more.

To start with she goes after Becky Aspen, a little black girl, and, well, Becky is a very vulnerable person because of it. The police and even other (white) people will be less likely to look for her because she is black. I wouldn't be surprised that the police did very little to look into her disappearance. And Esther isn't a stupid woman, she most likely went after Becky because she uses the systemic issues in place that make it easier for her to go after vulnerable girls, such as Becky Aspen.

Not to mention that the police wouldn't have gone after her anyways because she is friendly with them and they are friendly with her. She talks to them like a friend and the police treat her like one. And it's easy for Esther to do because she is a wealthy white woman, why would she be the cause of such a horrible tragedy? She is trust worthy and our friend so of course this wealthy white woman is not the kidnapper/killer. Because she is a wealthy white woman.

The police also show their incompetence/bias in the show by dismissing Crystal and Niko during the Lighthouse Leapers, because they are 1) outsiders in this town 2) are renting at Jenny's so they must be poor 3) not at school so they must be high/on drugs and 4) woman of color, while not mentioned, is something that most likely played a factor in the cops decision to not believe them.

The cop also immediately runs into Esther, who further turns the cop against Crystal and Niko. Esther takes advantage of her position in society, especially to those who are beneath her, to have power and control over them.

And the police will not side with her victims because it is her words over theirs and her word carries far more weight than those of her victims.

After all, Esther Finch is such a poor wealthy white woman and she is so sinister because it reflects our reality of how we (western) society view wealthy white woman.

Jules is a gentle man through and through. Markus has the highest sex drive out of the boys and is also by far the clingiest, so you’re going to be in for a wild ride with him. He likes to be in control, and he’s also the jealous/possessive type, so he’s going to need you to be laser focused on him as he takes the reins.

With Niko, he was your best friend for several years before you started dating, and that friendship is still the foundation of your relationship. So when it’s freaky time with him, it’s actually not super freaky – it’s more soft, sometimes silly, and really just easy. He can be himself around you, just like you can be yourself with him, and it’s just simple with him. Simple and good.
