all the discussion about the gods and what medusa talks to percy about in the kitchen - YES MAKE ME HATE THEM!! All of this is adding up to lukes motivations making so much sense in the end

ALSO!! Them harkening back to sallys line in the first episode when she tells percy that not all heroes look like heroes and not all monsters look like monsters - they brought it back so perfectly. Percy wanting to trust medusa because of what his mom said, medusa calling Poseidon a monster, ALL OF IT is so good

When theyre down in the basement and grover puts on the shoes and then just fucking. Flies away and disappears into the darkness yelling a little. and annabeth and percy just kind of helplessly watch him go before being like - welp i guess that plans not working. That was peak comedy

them using annabeths hat on medusa and then using it to kill alecto THEY WERE SO SMART FOR THAT!!! Also percy just the invisible severed head was a hilarious concept to me

when percy suggests burying the hat in the ground with the hat on to make sure no one bad finds it and annabeth just!!! Agrees!!! And then grover has to be like no that hats important to her its a gift from her mother!!! And then percys like well we’ll find another solution then. That whole scene was good yes i liked that

also annabeth revealing that grover was her protector too and percy asks about it and grover just changes the subject and doesnt answer. He is the KING of avoidance

also grover finally interrupting annabeth and percy when they start fighting and giving his whole speech about getting along. That wouldve felt a little cheesy and preachy and out of place from anyone else but considering grover tried to get them to sing the consensus song a few hours earlier i fully believe that he would say that

The Strauss’s parents are still alive, but they were part of the crowd that turned on Mira. Elfman and Lisanna ran away to stay with her.

Fried was raised in a high society family, but was disowned after coming out to them.

Gray did attempt suicide once when he was a teenager. A few months later when Lisanna “died”, he saw what that did to everyone else in the guild and swore to never try it again. It took something as extreme as what happened on Galuna to push him past that edge again.

Like Medusa, Evergreen’s stone eyes were actually a curse. She hated herself for them until she met Fried and Bickslow and saw what they could do with their eye magic.

I'm a big fan of sad/dark headcanons. I really like those! Especially the Strauss one. Imagine the parents being the first to turn on them and the heartbreak they went through

As much as Erza tries, she hasn't fully forgiven Jellal. Sometimes she'll have flashbacks to what he did while their alone and has to fight it down. She loves him and trusts him, but part of her will always fear him (he's noticed these random moments and it kills him)

Similarly, Lisanna flinches when Elfman lifts his hands. Everytime she thinks he's going to hit her like he did all those years ago. At first it was just when he was using his takeover but now it's all the time. She doesn't know why it's getting worse

Juvia was sexually abused when she first joined Phantom Lord. She trained hard to protect herself and that's how she became S-Class. It was all about survival

Natsu self harms. He doesn't realize he's doing it because it's not the 'usual' methods. One of the main things he does is shred his skin with his nails/claws. He plays it off as training injuries

A lot of the women cannot have children or have really hard pregnancies because of all the injuries they've sustained. Specifically Juvia, Erza, Kagura, and Ultear cannot have kids. Levy, Lucy, Minerva, and Kinana would have very complicated pregnancies

All of the children of the tower of heaven have a hard time taking jobs that require construction. The PTSD of being slaves will never leave them. A lot of them actually can't do any building at all without having breakdowns. (This is why Erza takes on a leader role when rebuilding the guild. She wants it done as fast as possible to minimize the chance of having an episode)

Wendy's fear of abandonment is way worse than she lets on. She has nightmares constantly about the entire guild disappearing again, her friends dying, or worse. When people go on long jobs, she often gets antsy and needs to be reminded that they will return and are safe. Carla can barely leave her side most days

I've been following the Greek Myth AU for a while and just read Karl's backstory. I just wanted to say that I love that you've mentioned Hephaestus, because the minute I first saw Heisenberg in game, and later fanart of him, I thought "He's the perfect Hephaestus". It's just funny that a Greek AU rolls around and he's in the equally fitting role of Medusa, lol

He would be the perfect Hephaestus if the canon god wasn’t typically described as having a kind and peaceful personality- Karl embodies a lot more of his aspect of fire and volcanoes with his temper

His powers as a gorgon of turning people to stone vs. controlling metal both conveniently fit his designated craft, as well as being perhaps the most infamous monster in all of the greek mythos vs. the strongest lord in-game.

The version of Medusa’s story he’s based on (where Athena transforms her as punishment) is also interesting to pair with the fact that in-game Karl is Miranda’s favorite (most compatible with cadou). Something about Athena/Miranda not knowing the difference between love and hate, only desiring to exert power over others, especially those unfortunate enough to get close to her (she tends to ‘favor’ people of noble backgrounds or with notable skill by making them her servants).

for those who aren't familiar with soul eater, the series revolve around the story of meister and demon weapon (human who can transform into weapons). The students of of Shibusen, school build by 'shinigami' take on missions to collect souls and protect the city from the world's threats.

The school parted into 2 types of class, N.O.T (Normally Overcome Target, class for those who just want to control their powers, pretty much just like a normal class) and E.A.T (Especially Advantaged Talent, consist of the 10% students in shibusen, class for students/agents who use their powers to battle evil)

-this au sets years after soul eater manga ending, where human and witch can already living side by side

-Morfonia used to be in NOT class, but then she moved to EAT class after reunited in shibusen and being partners with rita (they're childhood friends)

-Suzume supposed to be gira's weapon partner, since the Hastie and Dybowski family been on some kind of..bound? relationship? for a long time. But racles don't want gira to be a meister, so he took both of the dybowski siblings as his weapon (welp, gira still finds jera anyway)

-Top 3 EAT class academical rank: Rita, Himeno, Yanma (it's quite a tie with jeramie sometimes), gira is somewhere in the middle, or below-

-before met yanma, shiokara used to be Mayuta's demon weapon partners along with usuba (sniper rifle) and akka (brass knuckle ring)

-Jeramie is a child of demon weapon and witch, his mom run away from the witch realm because she possesses healing magic, which is unforgivable and hated by the witches

-and jera got his black blood from his mother, who didn't know that she was used to be medusa's (antagonist witch in SE) experiment object. Medusa thought she's a failed object, so she throw nephila out of her object list.

-before Jeramie met Gira, he wonder all over death city to find who killed and ate his parents' soul

-Gira don't really like to live in the Hastie's main mansion , so he rented apartments near shibusen together with Jera after decided to be his Meister. As a condition to allow gira living out of the Hastie household, Racles ask Duuga, the Hastie's butler, to visit gira's place from time to time

-Jeramie had this 'madness of hope' that triggered his black blood

-i'm thinking about 'madness of justice' for gira but 'justice' will suit rita more...

A nice little fic from arguably one of the best femslash writers in that fandom. It checks off all the boxes for everything I could want out of a Togachako fic: a theme of acceptance, exploring what could have been in another life and SO MANY cute moments. Also, the ambiguous ending just feels so right.

"Claret" by NefarioussNess | M | 1.8K | Post-Canon | Redemption | Biting

A heartfelt bite-sized read that features Himiko and Ochako navigating life together and quirk prejudices in the aftermath of the war. It's so soft with references to spicy moments sprinkled in. (Who doesn't love Togachako and THE BITING?) It's just so sweet to see Himiko trying to grow beyond her past and having Ochako to rely on.

One of my fav Togachako smut one shots. It's so sweet and cute and I want to craddle it in my arms. I love how the story shows Himiko helping Ochako work through self-esteem issues - also, what's not to love about technically self-cest.

This is some absolutely gut-wrenching hurt/comfort with parallels between togachako and dabihawks. I think it's one of the best togachako fics I've read in a while.

Actor AU togachako? YES PLEASE! The first fic I read in this fandom was an actor AU so I’ve always had a soft spot for this particular niche. Anyways, there’s a lot of cute moments in this and the pining is very strong in the best way possible. Also, the confession scene at the end is totally cute. There’s also some fun nods to krbk and excellent dialogue between Ochako and Katsuki.

“Double Entendre” by Its_Kingston | T | 2.6K | Chatfic | Humor | Miscommunication

I feel like I happen to be the EXACT target audience for this delightful cracky fic. It’s a humorous togachako chatfic (which is my jam) with some cheeky innuendo as well as some excellent and immersive HTML formatting. I also love how this fic provides both Ochako and Himiko’s POV to get the full picture :)

“Pleasing Our Infernal Princess” by intheeveningsunrise | 8.5K | Isekai | Scum Villain Fusion | Useless Lesbians

There is some excellent Ochako introspection and I like how genre-savvy this fic is. Himiko and Ochako’s relationship is also explored in a very fun way as Ochako tries to escape her predestined fate and Himiko manages to see Ochako for who she is at heart. Also, there’s some excellent platonic scenes between Ochako and Bakugo. As someone who hasn’t read scum villain I can vouch that this fic is an excellent read even if you aren’t familiar with SVSSS. In general, I highly recommend giving this a read if you love isekai/transmigration stories and femslash. There is also an incredibly fun twist at the end of this fic :)

"Keep Me Your Secret" by aphrodaisyacs | T | 11.5K | Role Reversal | Traitor Uraraka Ochako | Secret Relationship

An absolutely stellar role reversal fic that stays true to Ochako's and Himiko's characterizations as their lives take a very different trajectory. Ochako's desperation as she tries to fight against the metaphorical shackles tying her down and the pressure the HPSC puts on Himiko makes this story so engaging. This fic was the VERY FIRST togachako fic I ever read and to this day it holds up as one of my all-time favorites!!!!

“On Monsters and Lesbians and the Inevitable Overlap Between the Two” by mor | E | 11.1K |Modern-Day Setting | Keres!Toga | Roommates

While I have not read this fic yet (it’s been on my TBR for ages), my main enabler for all things femslash has been singing this fic’s highest praises. According to her, this is an excellent fic to read to get into the togachako ship since it hits many key tropes for the ships (e.g. Ochako’s sapphic internal panic) and strikes the perfect balance between being a meaty enough fic to thoroughly explore the ship while still remaining a one-shot. Also this fic has Greek mythology elements :3

“these selfish (butterf)lies” by sabertoothhousecat | G | 12K | Future Fic | Hurt/Comfort | Secrets

Lowkey this might be one of the best togachako fics I’ve ever read and it still holds up really well with the current togachako landscape despite being written before the togachako manga chapters were dropped. It has an excellent characterization of Himiko and delves into the anxieties of starting over in a poignant way. Also the identity shenanigans and the way guilt festers as Himiko dances around the truth is very compelling. There are also moments of some super cute banter. And this fic is meaty enough to really get a taste of what makes togachako such a fun ship but is short enough to read in one sitting. An excellent first togachako fic to read if you want to get into the ship.

This is THE Togachako fic - if you haven't heard of it already, believe me if you mention this fic in a group of togachako enthusiasts, people will start gushing about it immediately. The villain/hero dynamic is so fun in this with a lot of excellent toxic Yuri tension - and OMG Ochako's characterization is great in this (there is this one flashback scene from her childhood that still lives rent-free in my mind XD). And there are so many good interpretations like Ochako's past relationships with Izuku and Tsu that just HIT. Also, the smut is EVERYTHING - I really want to go into details but I'll hold back because it's so much more fun if it's a surprise.

“Revolutionary Girl Ochako” by JajaLala | 77.2K | T | Crossover | Character Studies | Bittersweet Ending

There are a million things I could say about this fic but I will try to keep it brief. This is a Revolutionary Girl Utena and MHA crossover that expertly explores themes of repression, gender, storytelling and what it means to be a hero. Taking advantage of MHA’s large cast, this fic not only does a fantastic job with togachako’s characterization but also does a great job of getting to the core of the side character’s motives and perception of the world. Also, the fic ticks so many quintessential togachako boxes (everything from Himiko being repressed to Ochako’s resilience and unconditional care for Himiko). AND THE FORMATTING OMG!!!!! This fic takes workskin shenanigans to the next level!!! I’m still thinking about the stroke of coding genius in the final chapter. Like y’all would not believe the amount of brainrot this fic induced. Anyways, as someone who has not watched Utena yet I can vouch that this fic reads well regardless of whether you have watched RGU or not :3

Author’s Commentary: I guess I would consider this fic something akin to my magnum opus lol. There’s a lot of silliness and subplots with a strong focus on LOV Found Family and Married Dabihawks in addition to the Togachako. A lot happens. Bakugo gets character development, Shouto is convinced Ochako’s girlfriend is a vampire from Twilight, Mineta gets a mini redemption arc and Dabi decides that maybe patricide isn’t for him.

Leonardo specifically invented the serpentinata pose to liberate a female figure from rape, but the twisting figures of mannerism were emblematic of breaking the traditional Renaissance conventions of male decorum.

When the Medicis were just powerful bankers in republican democrat Florence, they loved their classical female figures, especially Marys and Judiths. The handling and bending of serpent poses requires an artist to exert his body into physical contortions, very physically forcefully bending wax or clay into a figure for a bronze casting. in Mannerism, these translated into a sense of male patriarchal power, valentuomo. There's a forceful physical dominance and aggression to twisting contrapposto.

When female artists depart from Renaissance social decorum, it looks like a visual exercise in their liberation. When male artists break standards of decorum, it looks sforzata; overly forced. Mannerist sculptors translated rhetorical devices like antithesis and chiasma, into visual form, with figures arranged in intricate contrapposto poses, the anatomy was less important than masculine power and beauty (medicis just really loved hercules)

But, it seems to that poesia (particularly petrarchan poems) allowed for more artistic permissions with rhetoric and narrative than storia could. To Mannerists, accurate narrative and anatomy is secondary to the enjoyment provided by good dramatic art. In this line of rhetoric, could a break in decorum be justified by an artist's virtuosity? could women artists break decorum if they painted good enough?

Fair warning, things got a tad steamier that my usual style for Gorgon, nothing too NSFW but there are... implications.

Medusa

You hated it when Medusa talked bad about herself.

Especially when she was having a good day.

Very few things made you more angry than seeing such a wonderful, beautiful, and brilliant woman talk down to herself.

And for some reason, today was when you finally had enough of it.

And so, without thinking about how she could easily splat you against the wall with a flick of her wrist, you grabbed her by the chin.

And then you kissed her.

Full on the lips, no holds barred.

You wanted her to know just how she made you feel, and just what you thought about her always talking bad about herself.

And Medusa loved it, she was enraptured as you kissed her, it was something she had wondered if you would do, and she could confidently say that the real thing was far better than her dreams.

Though she was still surprised, after all, who would want someone as big as-

“That’s enough of that, I already know what you're thinking right now, and if you really want an answer, I do, I’m someone who wants you just as you, no one else. Medusa, I am so in love with you, and I can’t stand when you talk down to yourself.”

It took a moment for Medusa to register those words and their meanings.

You… loved her? Why?

“It’s because you are perfect, you’re smart, cool, sassy, and funny you’re also hopeless and a giant nerd and really, really, not used to talking to regular people, and I love you, I love all of you.”

Gorgon

The monster of the shapeless isles had no idea what mania over took you to make you worship her like a Goddess.

You offered her the first pick of every meal, the first warm bath with water you drew for the express purpose of bathing her, The finest clothing you could give her, the most wonderful and strange devices from this modern world.

And books, as many books as she could read and more.

Did you not know the value these things had?

And why did you waste them on her?

She would demand an explanation from you, and she expected only the truth, lest Gorgon decided to unleash the burning pain of the emotions throbbing in her chest upon you.

And so, that night, she “Asked” you what all of these gifts and tributes were for.

Also, by asked I mean she forced you up against the wall and looked you in the eyes as she demanded.

“Human! Why do you worship a monster like me as a Goddess? Answer me now before I rend you limb from limb!”

During the time it took you to formulate an answer Gorgon reveled in the emotions that shot across your face, emotions that she decided were hers the moment she saw them.

“T-to begin with it was because you needed to pass as a regular person but after that…” you trailed off, a pretty red on your face.

“Well? I haven’t got all night human, and the more you test my patience the more I feel like I will exact the repayment for your tribute upon you by force.” Gorgon threatened you without thought, not entirely sure what she meant by “repayment” though more than a few rather raunchy ideas were floating through her head.

“I-it was because I got a crush on you! T-t-then it became… more than… a… harmless… little… crush… I fell so in love with you it hurt to be away from you, even knowing you would never reciprocate!” you answered to Gorgon honestly in fear for your own life, but quite unsure if this was any better.

Still, at least you would die with a clear conscience.

You dared to look up at Gorgon who looked… confused?

The two of you stood like that for a moment, then it all began to go down hill, or uphill depending upon your perspective.

Gorgon raised her hand to your face, slowly, torturously slow.

“Oh human, you really, really, shouldn’t have said that~!” Gorgon whispered darkly into your ear, her hair serving as a curtain to sever the world around the two of you.

You swallowed deeply, so this was it, dying at the hands of such a beautiful woman, there were worse ways to go.

“Because now… you. Are. allllllllll. Mine~ My wonderful love. First things first though. It’s time for you to receive your repayment for your tribute, I do hope your body can keep up." The beautiful monster continued to whisper as her other hand drug itself up your leg, up your stomach, up your chest and up your throat before resting on the opposite side of where her other hand sat.

You got the feeling you would wake up very, very tired tomorrow.

Would it help to keep in mind a lot of those stories with Athena punishing cruely tend to come from later dates and places? Namely Ovid's Metamorphosis. Ovid was actually a Roman Poet, with a serious grudge against the Gods, especially Minerva (Romanised Athena) as he has been banished and saw Minerva/Athena is emblematic of the system he hated.

Anyway warning the following is a long ass exploration of a few of Lady Athena's myths that I thought you may be interested in, fueled by it being a special interest of mine -

In earlier Greek forms of the myths, Medusa was always a Gorgon with snake hair the same as her two sisters, and was not SAd by Poseidon but was a willing participant (Poseidon has many accounts of taking monsters as partners, and this was used to explain why the creatures of the sea were weird - "Near them their sisters three, the Gorgons, winged. With snakes for hair—hatred of mortal man.") Athena still punishes Medusa and cannot do anything about Poseidon in this version, but it is as Athena is horrified to find the lovers in the act of defiling her temple and shields her eyes from seeing the act. So she curses Medusa that everyone will have to avert her gaze or be turned to stone.

In other Greek myths, she is quite sympathetic to rape victims, and was the victim of an attempted SA herself.

She took pity on the mortal princess Nyctimene of Lesbos, who was raped by her own father and had fled to the forest and refused to leave or show her face in daylight. Athena transformed Nyctimene into the Owl so that her father could not find her and assault her again, no one would recognise her, and she would be able to fly far away from the island. This owl is thought by some to be the same as Athena's sacred owl.

Athena herself fended of a sexual assault from Hephaestus, who was convinced by Poseidon that Athena harboured secret feelings for him.

Poseidon was bitter over the loss of the patronage of Athens to Athena, so he concocted a scheme to try and strip Athena of her status as a virgin Goddess by convincing Hephaestus to have his way with her.

Athena and Hephaestus had long worked together on many projects, and she respected him for his ability and knowledge and treated him as an equal, which Poseidon convinced Hephaestus was actually her secretly being in love with the God of the forge but feeling 'unable to act' due to her vow of maidenhood. He convinced Hephaestus that he should take Athena first to bed, and then as his wife, when she would be no longer 'restrained to keeping an oath' that would have been broken.

Overcome by feelings of hope and lust, Hephaestus waits for Athena in his forge, becoming so aroused by the thought of her supposed secret affections and taking her as his wife, that when she comes in to work on their usual projects, he tries instead to assualt her. She fends him off, as she is stronger than him, but he spills his seed in some accounts straight onto the ground, and in others, onto her thigh or dress (which she cleans off with cloth in disgust and throws to the ground) in either case, accidentally impregnating the ground/the primordial Goddess Gaia (Grandmother of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades)

From this, Gaia gives birth to a snake legged child (Mirroring Hephaestus' impairments), which Athena adopts as her own and calls Erichthonius as she feels he was the 'one good thing' to come from the mess. He becomes the first king of Athens in some versions of the city's creation myth, and builds the first Chariot (Both to overcome his snake legs and in honour of his adoptive mother Athena. This is why Athena has an epithet of being the first Charioteer - Athena Hippia.) Erichthonius is the snake she protects behind her shield in some of her statues.

In other versions of this story, Poseidon convinces Zeus instead to marry Athena to Hephaestus, and unable to defy her father she complies. Hephaustus tries to consumate the marriage on their wedding bed, but Athena disappears just before Hephaestus can have his way with her, but he climaxed in anticipation and that seed fell to the ground, impregnating Gaia and also resulting in the birth of Erichthonius, and subsequent adoption by Athena who feels responsible.

As for the story with Arachne, it is only in Ovid's version once again that we see Minerva/Athena being portrayed as jealous and spiteful.

In earlier greek versions of the myth, Arachne was equally as talented at weaving as Athena but brags she is better than Athena. Bragging you were better than the Gods at something, especially at part of their domains (Athena is the Goddess of weaving and craft as well, seen by some as a counterpart to Hephaestus)

Athena comes down in the guise of an old woman and warns her not to be hubristic, as it is unwise. Arachne doubles down, saying to the 'old woman' that she would challenge Athena herself to a competition, at which point Athena accepts.

Athena and Arachne both make pieces that require incredible talent, but Arachne tries to win by making a mockery of the Gods by portraying their sexual misconduct and affairs, believing their audience will pick her daring piece over Athena's traditional one.

This enrages Athena, but instead of smiting the mortal on the spot or transforming her into a spider as punishment, which would be a fairly standard, Athena instead calls off the competition and destroys Arachne's piece while lecturing the crowd on the dangers of disrespecting the Gods. (Not saying Athena is in the right, but the spider part comes later.)

Arachne is suicidal over the whole ordeal and flings herself from her balcony, at which point Athena transforms her into an immortal spider to save her from death, saying she did not want the mortal to die as it would be a shame to loose such talent due to hubris, and this way Arachne 'would continue to be able to weave'. Arachne did not appreciate this transformation, understandably, and hates Athena and her followers to this day, which is why all spiders hate Athena, and she warns her followers to be wary of them, their hidden threat and hatred.

We see in a lot of these stories that while Athena is prideful and sees things as black and white in terms of 'Her way is the right way, and other ways are wrong' (which is very standard for the Gods), in the earlier Greek myths about her, she is largely one of the more benevolent gods. Though, on the flip side, most of the positive portrayals of her are influenced in large part by most of the surviving mythology coming from Athens, which had a vested interest in portraying Athena as incredible (and were the origins of a lot of myths that portrayed Ares and Aphrodite as 'weak/pathetic' as they were patron Gods of Sparta)

As an interesting final thought, we see a common thread in many of Athena's myths of what we would today identify as sex repulsion and asexuality. Some fragments of myths and writing suggest that this is because ancient greeks saw penetration as an act of domination, and Athena 'refused to let her walls be breached and have someone claim dominion over her'

Anyway, I hope this may spark your interest in learning more about Lady Athena and help you feel more of a connection to her.

Personally, I prefer to go with the earlier myths and disregard Ovid's Metamorphosis, as it is a later interpretation by a Roman poet, and thus more relevant to the Roman syncronisations of the Greek Pantheon (which combines various gods from various cultures and combines Greek gods/titans, like Artemis, Selene, and Hecate, into one Goddess)

Ok, so reader is the daughter of Poseidon and Medusa, she’s going up against her father in ragnarok, he and the other gods didn’t know that she existed. She hates Poseidon and Athena for what they did to her mother and aunts. She has the powers of Medusa. And I think it’d be cute if her and Hercules got along. And if you can implement her saying ‘oh ya my brother is a horse with wings and I was born from my mothers decapitated head’ would be cool. Basically how would the Greek gods react to her?

-You cracked your knuckles, a slight glare in your sharp reptilian eyes, trying to keep yourself calm, not wanting to lose yourself to your rage just yet.

-Kojiro put a friendly hand on your shoulder and your snakes that made up your hair quickly stretched out to pepper him with kisses, making him laugh.

-He could see that you were fidgety, and for good reason, the two of your were partnered up to take on Poseidon and Athena in a doubles battle, and everything was telling you to take revenge for your mother and your aunts.

-Hercules approached from behind the both of you, “Y/N?” you turned, your eyes bright and sparkly, “Big brother!!” he grinned, catching you as you leapt into his arms. He had found you as a child and took you in, raising you after he found out who you were, finding you alongside your biological big brother, Pegasus.

-Hercules was initially hesitant on letting you fight as he and Kojiro could both sense your anger, wanting your revenge, but you were fighting it, trying not to lose yourself  to your rage.

-Poseidon and Athena entered first, both looking annoyed at this competition, as it was pointless, as humans were always going to be weaker than gods.

-When Heimdall introduced the two of you, introducing you as the daughter of Poseidon and Medusa, the shock and outrage was very apparent all over the stadium, as none of the gods, save a few like Hercules and the Valkyrie, knew about you.

-Poseidon’s eyes were wide as you glared hard, your snakes flashing their red eyes at the both of them, he had no idea he had a daughter!

-Athena smirked over at you, trying to rile you up, “I had no idea that Medusa had a child.” You folded your arms across your chest, “Yeah, me and my brother were born after she was decapitated, after you raped her, and after you punished her instead of her rapist, the bastard standing next to you.”

-Even though you were his daughter biologically, you had no love for your father, and you didn’t give two shits about him.

-The crowds roared with outrage, many remember the truth with your mother, that Poseidon, a god, raped your mother, a human priestess, and instead of punishing the man who raped her priestess and defiled her temple, Athena punished your mother, turning her into a monster.

-Their embarrassment was very apparent, getting called out by both humans and some gods, angry at their actions. Kojiro was silent, holding onto one of your hands, keeping you grounded, his thumb stroking the back of your hand gently as you continued, “You really expected a human to be able to fight off a god? Why didn’t you help her? And you- why do you and that whore of a brother of yours think that you can take any woman you want just because you’re gods? You ain’t entitled to jack-shit!!”

-Kojiro was fighting off his laughter while Hercules was facepalming, even though he raised you with tons of love and care, you somehow had gotten quite the potty mouth.

-Poseidon grew angry at your insolence, as he demanded respect from you, despite not knowing you, while Athena was red faced, hearing the jeers all around her, many asking her the same thing, wanting to know why she didn’t save your mother instead of letting her get raped and then turning her into a monster.

-Zeus had a rather guilty look on his face, getting called out as well for his past romantic escapades, especially since he was getting called out by his niece that he didn’t even know existed.

-Kojiro went for Poseidon while you charged for Athena, holding one of your mother’s swords and she had to admit you were quite strong.

-She blocked a blow of yours after you managed to knock her down, sparks flying from the clashing of weapons and she looked up and instantly froze, seeing you in tears, your eyes narrowed in a glare, “Why didn’t you save her?!”

-Athena kicked you back, sending you head over heels before leaping to your feet, “You wouldn’t understand!” the two of you became the stars of the battle as you both went on the attack, “What wouldn’t I understand?! You just didn’t want to deal with handling your uncle defiling one of your temples! It was easier to blame and throw out the victim than deal with that fucker!!”

-She glared hard and threw you back again, closer to Poseidon who managed to knock Kojiro down and he charged for you, not to kill you, but to discipline you. You easily spun and delivered the mother of all bitch slaps across his face, feeling your mother and your aunts giving you strength, sending him flying back.

-As the two gods faded away about ten minutes later, Kojiro and you standing victorious, but instead of feeling satisfaction, tears were easily slipping down your cheeks, feeling anguish.

-Poseidon watched you until he disappeared completely, feeling remorse as he had never gotten to know you.

-Kojiro and Hercules held you tightly as you bawled into your partner’s chest, feeling nothing but more rage, it didn’t make you feel better, if anything it made you more upset. Hercules felt guilty as he stroked your cheek gently, dabbing your tears away again, as you spoke, “You were right, I don’t feel better!”

-He pecked your forehead gently, feeling the kisses of your snakes, “I’m sorry Y/N, but I knew you wouldn’t understand if you didn’t realize this yourself.” You nodded softly, sniffling again, closing your eyes as the one good thought came into your mind, that your father and that bitch Athena wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone ever again.

Hate that no one is talking about Annabeth’s rant to Medusa about how her mum is fair and just and she’s a liar cause I have so many feelings about it.

I love the message they’re pushing of not everyone who looks like a monster so a monster and not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero, and I think changing their interaction with Medusa really emphasises it, since the injustice of Medusa’s story has become much more widely recognised. But also not just making her the good guy and still having them kill her cause what happened to her was awful and you can see how and why she’s gone down this path but that doesn’t give her free reign to murder people and she’s still held accountable for her actions.

But the way Annabeth shut her down shocked me, I didn’t understand how especially as the only girl in the group she could be so insensitive. And it took me a moment to realise that I was making the same mistake as I always made in the books. They’re 12. And I feel like it should be easier to remember now that we can see them but it really isn’t. I definitely didn’t know what rape was at 12. (Which is a whole other issue cause I feel like if your old enough to learn about sex, you’re old enough to learn about rape). Of course she wants to defend her mother. Since she was little, all she’s been told is give your favourite part of your meal to the gods your mum might notice you, earn kleos, your mum might notice you. All they do is try and try to do their parents proud and get what in reply, a hat? Some shoes?

So Medusa’s not the monster, Annabeth’s not the monster, and who to we keep coming back round to time and time again? I don’t know if it’s because I’m coming back to the story with older eyes, or just the new adaptation, but Luke makes so much more sense to me now.

Here are a few things that I like about him:

He was a Mama's Boy and killed her rapist/abuser;

In Nonnus' Dionysiaca it is said that he gave Cetus' petrified body to Andromeda as a wedding gift, whereas in Ovid's Metamorphoses he told Phineus that part of the reason why he decided to turn him to stone was because in this way his wife could look at his face without fearing it before showing him the head of Medusa;

In the Pausanias he buried the head of Medusa, instead of giving it to Athena;

He named his kingdom after a bloody mushroom and his daughter Gorgon Slayer;

He is the grandfather of persians;

On his personality:

I like to imagine him as a conscientious helper, empathetic, sociable, dedicated and loyal. Considering the fact that he deeply loved his mother and killed her rapist, saved a girl whom he later married from a sea monster and gave the throne of Seriphos to Dictys after he petrified Polydectes I'm assuming that he prioritizes other people's wishes and needs above his. He also has a great sense of responsibility and duty, and it isn't hard for me to think that he was probably asked by the people he met throughout his journey to help them in different ways, and that the slaying of Medusa and Cetus weren't his only great deeds. He usually doesn't act on impulse, and is capable of hard-working and long-term planning. Due to the fact that he grew up either as a slave or a fisherman he ended up being more humble/less greedy than many other heroes and kings, being capable of understanding how power can corrupt and trying not to abuse it on the unfortunate ones. I consider him to be easygoing as well and this is part of the reason why he adapted himself so easily in Aethiopia and already made friends who were willing to fight for him when Phineus destroyed his wedding (Ovid's Metamorphoses). Given his relationships with Danaë and Andromeda, the fact that he never cheated on his wife and that his daughter married twice (which was a huge deal back then because "A woman should stay a widow after he husband dies... [blah, blah, blah] ...a man doesn’t want a non-virgin woman who already has children [blah, blah]..."), it's not very hard for me to come to the conclusion that he had a better perception on women compared to his contemporaries, especially since he was raised by a single mother and Zeus was never really present in his life.

However, I also believe that he has a tendency of expecting those around him to share the same principles and values he has, and when someone is either a horrible person, is responsible for a great evil or is simply an asshole he doesn't hesitate to judge them for that, let aside show his wrath in different ways (The Graeae, Atlas and Proteus). He can also be surprisingly ruthless if he wants to, and I have this idea that perhaps his mother encouraged this cruel side of him; not only that she named her son "destroyer" back when she was still locked by her father, but having Polydectes around for many years perhaps influenced her in teaching her son to avenge himself or those he cares for. I think he used to trust people way too much back when he was younger (which is part of the reason why he ended up hating Polydectes so much) and as he grew older he started to "read" those around him and understand their intentions, especially since this is a trait a king should have in my personal opinion.

He's also a chill guy who likes fishing, loves sea animals and hates loud music (and wine after the Dionysus incident...).

i absolutely ADORE leah, walker, and aryan though the three of them are so so perfect, A+ casting no notes couldn't have done it better myself. if it weren't for the three of them i would have zero hope for the show i cannot lie...they're carrying. without them it's just..bad.

the scene where sally is talking about Poseidon to percy...i do not like it sam i am. bad. not wistful enough not longing enough not sad enough not gut wrenching enough...also not completely here for sally telling percy that his dad was a god because....sallys whole thing was NOT telling him in order to keep him safe...i know they changed it in the show so sally knew he was going to camp immediately but that does not mean i have to like it

the scene with sally and percy in the pool. i hated everything about that. sally would never talk to percy like that never talk to him about money never make it seem embarassing NOT TO MENTION that percy simply wasn't scared of the water. that's stupid as fuck. theres a part in the book where percy literally says being by the water calms both him and his mom like...come the fuck on just admit you can't fucking read or at least didn't read the book.

them making athena moa level bad in tlt is quite interesting. setting up annabeth siding with percy pretty well.

also the whole impertinence thing over medusa's head was weird to me. when annabeth first said that i had immediately thought that annabeth's impertinence was telling percy to pray to poseidon IN ATHENA'S TEMPLE bc that made much more sense to me...but whatever

the underwater scene with the neraid was cool even though i hated the parallel to the pool scene w/ sally.

Did anyone else find the ending to the Disney+ Percy Jackson series really unsatisfying?

The show wasn’t bad overall, though some of the acting felt a bit stiff and I didn’t like some of the changes. They removed a lot of the Cerberus stuff where he is neglected by Hades and just wants to play with someone. Percy and Annabeth were a lot quicker on the uptake about a lot of things, which was fine but removed a bit of the suspense from things like the Lotus Casino (I’m still disappointed they didn’t all get sucked into it like in the book - also, removing the taxi driver calling them Your Highness made me a little sad, though Percy learning how to drive the taxi himself made up for it) and Procrustes (they knew he was Procrustes from the start, and as such never got tricked into trying one of his beds). Other changes I didn’t mind so much (like the scene with Echidna) though I found it really odd how the had the whole thing around Medusa where it was like “don’t judge a book by its cover, not everything that looks like a monster is one” only to then turn around and go “actually yeah she is a monster”. It felt like it undercut the message a bit. Anyway, the main two issues I had were:

1.) Removing the scene where Percy makes the gods swear to claim their children by a certain age. It REALLY felt like a lot of the show was building up to that scene (Sally making Grover swear to protect Percy, emphasizing the importance of a sworn oath; the MULTIPLE conversations about how unfair it was that the gods treated their children this way; and the fact that it was solidly established that the gods have to obey certain rules) only to have Percy turn around and tell Luke, “hey, the gods are trying their best, okay?” Percy standing up to the gods had a lot more weight in the book, because he made his anger with the way they treated their kids clear to them, whereas in the show he did stand up to Zeus but then actively defends the gods’ actions in his subsequent confrontation with Luke.

2.) Perhaps my biggest issue in the show: Gabe Ugliano. When Percy entered his apartment, and Eddie said “I’m going out, you’re coming in. I should be apologizing to you,” I was fully bracing myself for a scene depicting how abusive Gabe could get. Instead, we got a Gabe Ugliano who is moderately annoying at worst. He’s an asshole to his wife and stepson, but SEVERELY toned down from the book. He’s mostly just kind of a jerk, who Percy and Sally have no trouble standing up to as he doesn’t really do anything but get annoyed when Percy stands up to him and quickly backs down when Sally stands up to him. They even removed the bit towards the end where it is revealed that he had been physically abusive towards Sally, leaving just about everything that makes the character so hate-able out of the show. He’s just… dislikable. That’s it. I couldn’t really bring myself to hate him because he’s just a dumbass. Now, from what I understand, the reason he was toned down was because Rick Riordan himself said that when they first tried to adapt the scene (in a more faithful way) it was uncomfortable to watch, which is fair: I don’t really like watching depictions of abuse (I had to walk out of Love Lies Bleeding, it’s a great movie but it was a bit too much) especially against children. Plus, I understand that this was meant to be a more kid-friendly show. But removing Gabe’s abuse means removing Sally coming into her own by killing him. Instead, Gabe’s death doesn’t feel as deserved, and it happens accidentally. Plus, even though they established that bad smells can mask a demigod’s scent from monsters, they didn’t include the reveal that Sally stayed with Gabe because his scent hid Percy. Again, I understand why they may not have wanted to keep the “woman sticks with her abuser” narrative for a kid-friendly show. But at that point, why even have him in the show? All of his narrative significance has been stripped away, leaving us with a character who adds nothing to the story. He’s just kinda there. They even made him unemployed, meaning the bit where Percy says on live TV that Gabe is giving away free appliances is gone too. TLDR: he isn’t as evil, so it doesn’t really feel like he gets deserved comeuppance when he dies at the end, and on top of that his plot significance is removed, leaving him as sort of a vestigial tail of a character that no longer has any purpose in the story but is still visibly there taking up screen time.

Idk, I liked a lot about the show, but a lot of aspects felt rushed. I wouldn’t mind waiting longer for season 2 if it meant it would be a more complete adaptation of the book it’s based on.
