Hey Everyone,
Check out our blog series that my group mate and I created for our final project in EID 100. We created a company called Student Life in order to help prepare students for upcoming challenges that they may face as they progress through their academic career. We recommend that you read the “about us & the blog” part first to give you an understanding of the authors and the scope of our blogs.

6. How to Prevent Cyber Crime
There are multiple ways to prevent from being apart of cybercrime and to keep yourself safe. It’s extremely important to take measures into your own hands, when protecting yourself from social media, online identity, and any other data.  First off when creating social media accounts, web mail, bank passwords, other online passwords make sure they are all different. Creating unique encrypted passwords for every account will prevent the hacker accessing all of the accounts. Imagine creating the same password for each account ? Everything will be hacked. Secondly, based on browsers such as Google Chrome or Firefox make sure latest updates are consistently installed, and the operating system is updated in an efficient timely manner.  Phishing has been an ongoing issue for several years, in order to prevent that look thoroughly where the email came from, look up on the site prior to clicking anything. When random sites have a large promotion, don’t believe it until you review the site and the overall content. This will prevent from taking your personal information and using it against yourself. In any circumstances if an identity were to be compromised, immediately contact the financial institutions, and call the credit bureau. Malwares are very infectious, once its inserted in your computer it can remotely take over, access personal information and track any information. In order to prevent that, install a anti-virus/malware software, have them up to date, secure the network, and continue to having operated system.
These crimes are intended to obtain other information such as logins, passwords, credit card information to open a line of credit, obtain a mortgage, open a new credit account, infect your computer with a virus to take over your computer and accessing your personal information.

Visual culture and your social life
Tumblr media
In one of our earlier posts, you learned about what visual culture is and how development of digital technologies that contribute to the making of visual culture. But how does visual culture play a part in your social life? We can examine its impacts in the use of social media and image-sharing to connect and build relationships with others. Rather than just serving as a keepsake, images function to communicate the present; where you are, who you are with, and what you are doing.
In Terms of Service: Social Media and the Price of Constant connection, Jacob Silverman writes, "Sharing itself becomes personhood, with activities taking on meaning not for their basic content but for the way they are turned into content, disseminated through the digital network, and responded to." We are in a time where the quality or content of an image you post can impact how others perceive you. For example, if you post a photo of a moldy piece of bread, someone might think you have bad eating habits. Perhaps a far stretch – but in reality, the response you receive from a post can impact your sense of self.

Do you remember when you got your first smartphone? How did it change the way you spent your time? How did it change the way you interacted with your family, friends, and peers? How did it change the way you see yourself?
Constant Connection
Being able to send and receive a high volume of images and videos at a fast rate is a fun way to stay connected. You can get a glimpse of how it’s like to live in a different part of the world or find out where your favorite musician likes to shop.
Our social interactions with one another have changed due to the dominance of images and digital technologies.

Be Aware
While digital technologies and visual culture continue to grow, staying connected can have it’s downsides:
Sharing images publicly and having an online presence can make you susceptible to cyberbullying
Constantly looking at images can be distracting
Intimacy issues with friends and family
