Perseverance! Rookie member of the EEG’s field research team. She’s a nerd-jock newbie who wants her idols to like her sooooooooooo bad.
-> Biology major with a particular interest in ecology! And bugs she likes bugs. And really all sorts of fun crawly invertebrates.
-> Perse is no stranger to the EEG headquarters, she’d been coming here for years before her official admission to the team! With two older relatives to shadow, she got to know a lot of the older members during her frequent visits. She greatly admires all of them.
-> She maintains some terrariums to raise and study copepods and amphipods. As well as several potted plants.
-> Perse has the same level of passion discussing a new and as of yet undocumented species as she does showing off the cute little house moth that almost gave Maven a heart attack.
-> She’s a hobbyist photographer with a Leica 1(A) 35mm. She’s into wildlife photography, and though her work isn’t very technically impressive, you don’t need to be an ace at something to have fun with it!
-> Perseverance maintains that she is NOT a nerd like her cousin, Maven, is a nerd.
-> She’s very athletic and energetic. She enjoys a daily jog, and plenty of exercise both indoors and outdoors. She loves going on hiking or full on camping trips with her uncle Phoenix.
-> She and Phoenix are very close. They’ve got a really easygoing and playful dynamic, with plenty of in-jokes built up between them. Phoenix was a constant in her early life, almost a third parent. He’d often visit to play with her and to babysit so her dads could enjoy a free evening every so often. He still dotes on her as much as Perse will let him get away with, but he respects that she values having a more adult relationship now. Still with plenty of fun, of course!
-> Perse and Maven weren’t really around each other as young kids, but became friends as they got a little older. Maven’s scientific leanings led to Perse finding and developing her own passion for study and exploration. Maven and the rest of her family have been nothing but supportive and nurturing, and she’s grateful for it. But she wants to make sure they know she’s not just a little girl anymore, and she’s ready to be the one offering support when needed.
-> She’s more than willing to get her hands dirty and to do ‘boring’, menial work. Especially if it means the people she looks up to see how diligent and cooperative she is :)
-> Perse is very needlessly competitive, though in a lighthearted sort of way. She doesn’t mind taking a loss, because it’s more about the challenge than the winning. It’s about the thrill. But don’t expect her to go easy on a challenger, because she still plays to win. Game night is a disaster

Hey y’all! Can you please send me pictures of your favorite animals?  I am stressing out about all -ologists I’ll be going to over the next few months and could really use a distraction. On the one hand, I am grateful I can see these doctors, and that my new PCP is taking my health issues seriously and referring me to specialists. On the other, I have been caught in a never ending merry go round of specialists for more than a decade. I am tired. I never get answers, they always just take money and refer me to a new specialist in a loop, and the latest loop has led to the discovery that I am allergic to neurologists.  So...please send me pictures of your favorite animals (for plushie inspiration, and also just because animals are adorable)

I am not going crazy. Having excess beta brainwaves IS correlated to ADHD symptoms (in children and adolescents), specifically metacognition issues, inattention, and irritability:
#This is one study; but it’s interesting that usually the stereotype is having high theta; but that hasn’t really been proven#because correlation ≠ causation#which doesn’t mean much for the beta thing either but STILL#They were looking mainly for high theta and found a lot of diagnosed ADHD kids with high beta and no ODD#I want my brain readings. I want my brain readings n o w#Two more days. I bet they’re gonna say I don’t have ADHD because of the high beta#I bet they’re gonna say I just have anxiety#Again EEG isn’t alone a proven method to diagnose ADHD but I took a written diagnostic too#so maybe this is just to determine what medications will work???? idk I definitely passed the personal history test lmfaoo#But I have a bad feeling I’m gonna get shrugged off#because when they were asking me questions I felt like they were cutting my answers short a little#but that could be because I was infodumping#But yeah my beta power with eyes open is 5.70 and the normal range (if I’m reading it correctly) is 3.65–0#Beta is supposed to be related to focus so maybe it’s possible that some ADHD people are TOO focused on too many things at once#which leads to focus issues VS some have “sleepy brains” with high theta which can’t focus on anything???#idk#ehehehehe feed me scientific studies and numbers#yummy#Yeah it’s not that my brain “runs slowly and is spaced-out” it’s that I can’t get it to stop accelerating and latching onto everything#and in order to do one thing I have to rip the suction-cupped tentacles of my brain off five different things before I can focus#which LEADS to anxiety because I can’t always peel myself away from everything else so I’m just stuck there#like a statue#trying in vain to break out from the inside#hence the anxiety

Currently getting a 24hr EEG done to look for signs of epilepsy. Cool things that have happened so far that I have no idea what they mean:
I have moments like look like absence seizures. Basically I go kinda limp and just stare off into the distance. Apparently when this happens, my friend said all the brain waves on the screen flat line. It really freaked him out the first time he saw it on the screen 😅 which honestly explains so much because when it happens it feels like all the brain goblins just decided to go on a break all at the same time so no one is running the factory.
The other thing that happens is when my brain gets really loud and chaotic. Like all the brain goblins decided to start screaming and fighting all at the same time. My head feels so full and loud in those moments. When it happened the brain waves on the screen started going absolutely wild. The screen was pure chaos and it felt like it really captured the spirit of the chaos in my head 🤣
I have no clue if either of these things indicate a larger issue or not. I just know it was really interesting to finally see a visual representation of my brain in those moments

The neurolinguistics department at my university is recruiting nagive English speakers who are learning Spanish for some research project of theirs and it sounds very cool and I want to do it but I am exhausted and have very little free time. This is a 9 hour commitment across 3 sessions and they have not told us when they will schedule things. Should I attempt to do the cool thing or should I accept that I am simply too busy?

Neuromarketing: how brands are manipulating your brain?
A process called neuromarketing blends marketing with neuroscience. Also discusses how consumer behavior is impacted by the marketing system and how the human brain responds to it. It influences consumer behavior, feelings, and decision-making. It examines how the brain processes and reacts to marketing-related stimuli like branding, packaging, and product design. To learn how the brain reacts to various marketing stimuli, neuromarketing strategies can utilize eye tracking, biometric tests, and brain imaging instruments like fMRI and EEG.

There Will Be
This morning was busy. I managed to do the usual, feed the outside cats, let the dogs play their inside-outside game, I even managed coffee. Then I had to get dad over to Gastonia for an EEG that the neurologist wanted him to have. We have been trying for weeks to get this done. If it hadn’t been so frustrating it would have been funny. However, we needed answers and that took him having the EEG.…

Hey y’all! Weird question. Is there a way to get a definitive diagnosis about whether or not the flashing lights issue I have is flicker vertigo without an EEG? I found out last week that EEG adhesives are a fairly bad asthma trigger for me, and idk if there’s a point in continuing to try to go to the neurologist if they can’t actually test me for anything Also, side note for people who get migraines: does taking a benadryl* end your migraine if you take it in the beginning stages of the migraine, or is that a “my allergies are weird” thing? *specifically US benadryl I think it’s a different medication with the same brand name somewhere else but I can’t remember where
